Once she finally saw fit to pay attention however, Fiera went to give Drips the branch. "Okay Drips, bite!" She said, and pressed it against the sarane's mouth. Unfortunately, she didn't do anything. Instead she just grunted a bit and turned her head, but Fiera kept at it, pressing a bit harder. Finally she grunted louder and looked up at Fiera, opening her mouth a bit to hiss. It wasn't a lot- if anything, she just pulled her lips away from her teeth. The branch wasn't even scratched. Still, it was the first step on the way to having this move trained. "Good bite, Drips!" Fiera said cheerily and opened the smaller lid on the top of the cooler, pulling out a half frozen chunk of something or other. Then she held it out to Drips, who almost immediately seemed to perk up. What pet wouldn't, at the offer of free food? Fiera 1 Drips 3.1/3.1 Bite 6

The sarane leaned out lazily, as if asking Fiera to put the food in her mouth for her, so she wouldn't have to grab it herself. Fiera merely rolled her eyes and set the treat down in front of Drips, giving her another quick "Good job!" as she did so. The sarane hen carefully picked it up from the ground, and Fiera felt the urge to check her watch as she luxuriously chewed it. "Come on, it's not filet mignon." She mumbled under her breath as Drips finally swallowed her treat. Excellent. Now they could get back to work. Once again, she pressed the stick to Drips' face, urging her onward. "Bite, Drips! Go on, bite!" She emphasized, though the sarane kept leaning back and pressing her ears to her head. Finally she lashed out a bit, dealing a little nip onto the edge of the branch she was holding.

"Yes! Good job, Drips!" Fiera cheered almost immediately. She scrambled to open the cooler again and tossed her two chunks of meat this time, giving her an extra reward for extra effort. She was hoping that Drips would be able to overcome her natural laziness with her love of food. It seemed to be working so far- Drips was getting more and more excited by the minute as Fiera tossed her a couple more chunks of food, and happily ate them as Fiera examined the stick. It wasn't much, but she had scraped it now at the very least. She just had to keep that building up to a bite worth fighting with. "Okay Drips, ready to try again?" She asked rhetorically as the sarane swallowed down the last of the final treat Fiera had given her. Fiera took it as a good sign that her eyes were already trained on the stick.

"Okay Drips- bite!" Fiera said, holding out the stick. She didn't push it toward Drips' face this time, hoping that the sarane had a good enough idea of the command by this point to know how to do it herself. To Fiera's relief, it looked like she understood somewhat as she moved her head toward the stick and bit down on it. It wasn't too fast and it wasn't too hard and she retreated quickly, but it did leave some nasty looking bite marks in the wood. Fiera's eyebrows raised up, a bit impressed. Would it be lethal in a fight? No, never. But she definitely seemed to understand the idea of "bite this thing, cause damage" by this point. From here, all she had to do was encourage some more... intense violence. And for that, she tossed Drips even more treats than last time, just to get her nice and riled up.

Drips practically inhaled the meat Fiera gave her, and seemed more excited than ever to try again when Fiera held the stick up once more. "Okay Drips, you've got this." She said encouragingly and then held out the branch. "Now, bite!" She commanded. Drips didn't need to be told twice. She lunged at the branch with a surprising amount of force, and Fiera was suddenly grateful that it was between Drips' fangs and Fiera's torso. As she bit down on it though, she didn't let go after a few moments like before. Instead, it let out a crackling noise and suddenly was nowhere near as straight as before. When Drips finally released it, it was in splinters in Fiera's lap. A satisfied smile spread across Fiera's face as she opened the cooler to grab even more treats. "Good job, Drips. Good bite." She said, confident that the sarane hen understood now. That was one move out of the way.

Fiera had decided to give Algol a go in the public park today. He had a lot of training to do if she wanted him to be ready for the sarane tournament coming up. She had done her best to get him trim and ready for it, but this was the real test. She needed him to get a few more abilities and moves down if she wanted him to be ready and… well, she wasn’t sure if they’d get them all done in time. She was already taking some time off from training another sarane to do this. With any luck she would be able to wrap up Drips’ training shortly after this, but for now she needed to focus on her drake. He looked around curiously at the training they were in, but didn’t seem too focused overall. In the meantime, she went to get set up.

First she set out the cooler. This was a given for any trick she taught to her carnivorous pets. You couldn’t train a predator without the offer of prey after all. She had reloaded it with several gallons worth of freshly frozen meat, and shouldn’t be running out for hours- which she had no doubt she’d be spending out here. She didn’t have a ton of moves to teach today, but the ones she did have would no doubt take a while. She was sure that her stores of food would last though- Algol wasn’t THAT poor a student. She had a few more gizmos and gadgets though, enough to get him through learning the contents of her list today. She wouldn’t need them all at once, but they did tend to weigh down her bag. Hopefully she’d be able to empty the cooler enough to make the walk back more pleasant.

Algol seemed pretty calm so far, but Fiera didn't know if he would stay that way. After all, the ability she wanted to teach him seemed to be custom tailored to freaking him out. Specifically, she wanted to teach him 'Hardy'. Hardy was a tricky ability to teach, but vital on the battlefield. It involved being strong in body, mind, and spirit, and not getting spooked or intimidated by any situation. Now Algol was pretty good at intimidating OTHER pets, but he had never met anything bigger and badder than himself, so there was a chance that he'd be in for a rude awakening once he actually had to fight another sarane. He was pretty beefy in his body as well, so Fiera figured that wouldn't be too much of an issue, but she could see his psychology being his weak point. Well, no longer. he was going to train it out of him one way or another.

Unfortunately, 'or another' might need to be her method, as she couldn't think of a 'one way' to train him to start with. The issue for Fiera was that there WERE no creatures bigger or scarier than him, which would make it awfully difficult to intimidate him. Fiera certainly wasn't that big... but she did have a few ideas. First of all, she had a speaker. It was one of those super loud ones for concerts, but thankfully one still small enough for Fiera to carry and tote around with her. Still, it was guaranteed to put out noises louder than anything Algol could make so long as she cranked the volume up. Fiera also had recordings of other tier 3 sarane to play for him, some highly distracting flags to flap around in his face and a spooky mask to try and make her seem even more foreign to her pet.

Would it work? There was only one way to find out. But she was hoping that at first at least, Algol would be pretty spooked. From there, he would hopefully get used to Fiera's antics, no matter what she tried, and would accept the nonsense she kept throwing at him. Then he could use that in a battle situation to accept any nonsense his opponents used on him. At least, that was how this would work in theory. Fiera had only taught this to a couple of pets before, and it was usually a lot easier to teach it to pets that were at least somewhat smaller than her. The last pet she entered in a battle tournament, Madison the candy corn bat, was only about a foot long. Algol was... quite a few more than that, and several feet tall as well. Still, Fiera would just have to do her best to persevere.

She got everything set up in a few minutes. Her WATT with the recordings on them was plugged into the speaker. The mask was hidden behind it. The flags were unfurled, but not picked up quite yet. And Fiera put some earplugs in, just to be safe. Algol looked at all of this with a sense of detached disinterest. Fiera was always doing weird things around him, why would this be any different? Well, he was due for a very rude awakening. Fiera scrolled through her WATT's files until she fell upon the one she wanted- the trumpeting roar of a victorious T3 drake, one of the winners of a previous tournament. There was a bit of a roaring crowd in the background as well, but Fiera figured it would work well enough. After double checking to make sure her headphones were in correctly, Fiera hovered her finger over the button for a moment before pressing play.

The response was immediately. A deep rumble emitted from the speaker, catching Algol's attention. The sarane drake prowled forward, his ears back while sniffing loudly. Fiera scrambled for her flags and the mask, slipping the horrifying visage on and gripping the flag poles tightly. Then the roar started up in full force, a deep, brassy affair screeching out from the speaker. Algol, despite his size and strength was utterly shocked and recoiled as if slapped. Fiera took the opportunity to leap out from behind the speaker, waving the flags around in his face while twitching the mask to and fro. He squeaked pathetically and stumbled backward, clearly taken off guard by all this. He kept backing up until he finally met the treeline, blocked by thick hedges and oaken trunks. He glanced over his shoulder- there was nowhere else to retreat to. He would have to make his stand here.

With his ability to run away cut off, something seemed to change in Algol. If he couldn't go back, he would just have to press forward. Instead of whining, he eventually leaned forward toward Fiera and growled. It was small and weak, but it was something other than cowering. Fiera was pleased. She slipped off the mask for a moment and hit "pause" on the roar playing. "Good job, Algol!" She said, and tossed him a chunk of meat she had been holding with the flags. He blinked with surprise but didn't waste time, snapping it up in a heartbeat. Fiera smiled and walked back toward the speaker again, letting Algol approach her so they could try again. He seemed shaken but eventually stuck up for himself- that was a good sign. Now they just had to give it another go. Without any warning, Fiera hit play on the recording again.

The recording picked up where it let off, screaming at Algol. The sarane snarled instead of seeming cowed this time, though he still leaned back as if the sound was causing a literal gale force sweeping him backward. Fiera waved her flags at him and tried to intimidate him as well as she could with the mask as well, making her own stupid noises and leaping around. She was sure she looked a madwoman to anyone passing by, and was quite glad that her sarane was the only one that could see her. He still snarled at Fiera softly and didn't back away, but still seemed a bit spooked by the whole situation. It was closer to what she was looking for than before though, so Fiera still paused the audio and tossed him another treat. "Good job, Algol. We'll get it next time for sure." She said before putting the mask back on.

Algol seemed increasingly confident and this time when she turned on the roar, he barely flinched at all. Instead his snarl started up again, just as fearsome as before. He creeped toward the speaker... and roared right back at it, his wings spread and his horns bared menacingly. He wasn't scared at all, and instead seemed to be challenging it to a fight. Perfect! Fiera paused the audio again and threw Algol yet another treat, letting the sarane wolf it down while eyeing the speaker. She was glad she stopped it there, as she didn't quite trust him to not demolish it otherwise. She kept it up after that, subjecting Algol to these upsetting influences over and over, but he seemed less and less intimidated (let alone INTERESTED) every time. Soon he was barely responding to the audio and flapping of flags, just giving it a low growl any time Fiera got too close. Perfect.
