“I promise I won't let anything happen to you,” Fanged said. Clover appeared to understand her words, though she still glanced back down the dark passage. They had descended quite far now and the stairs didn’t appear to end anytime soon. Fanged didn’t mind following an endless staircase with only a silent Gallor to keep her company, but Clover was beginning to grow antsy once more. Just when she thought Clover was going to turn around and retreat, the staircase ended. They were standing in a small room with a single door. The Gallor looked around curiously. The furniture in this room was sparse, and what little there was appeared almost dilapidated. The floor was covered in dust, and there was no light source in the room.
"That's strange," Fanged said.
She walked over to the door, examining the knob. It was engraved with the symbol of a skull, avian to be precise.

She grasped the knob and tested to see if it would turn. She managed to get it turned all the way and the door swung open. There was a table and two chairs inside, as well as a large fireplace. It was lined with a mantle, which was decorated with a large carving of a man carrying a crown. A hidden hideaway in a room within a room. Clover stepped forward, her eyes blazing with curiosity. She was slowly growing accustomed to exploring an indoors house. A secret room was bound to contain even more secrets. There were a few books located in the room, but Fanged had had her fill of books for now. Clover glanced around the room, pleased when she noticed that there were a variety of potted plants located within. She walked over to one of them and plucked a leaf from the plant with her teeth.

She chewed the leaf slowly, savouring its flavor. Fanged wasn’t a vegetarian and she thought that most leaves were rather tasteless. From Clover’s perspective, the leaf was slightly sweet and fragrant. Clover appeared to offer Fanged the opportunity to take some as well, but the woman declined. Fanged crossed the length of the room and sat down in one of the cozy looking armchairs. She was beginning to feel tired, so she decided to close her eyes for a moment. The sound of Clover’s chewing was the only noise in the room. Before Fanged could allow herself to fall asleep, she forced herself awake so that she could check the room for anything dangerous first. There was a chest of drawers located under the mantle. It seemed out of place, so she figured she ought to check there first. She reached into one of the drawers and felt around inside.

Her fingers met with a solid set of metal keys. Fanged glanced around the room, trying to see if there was something here that needed to be opened. Her eyes landed on the painting and she moved closer to examine it in greater detail. She ran her finger along the edge of the frame. After a bit of prodding, an indent was evident underneath her fingertips.
“I think I can open it,” Fanged said.
She managed to pry up a panel and to her delight, there was an indent that looked like it would fit a key. She picked up the keys she had found and began to fit them into the lock until she found one that turned. When the key turned, the painting swung open with an audible click. Clover tilted her head as she watched the painting open. She didn’t know what its purpose was, but she knew it was important to Fanged.

To Fanged’s surprise, the painting swung open to reveal a mirror. The woman blinked up at it in confusion. She had been expecting a safe or some other hidden treasure, not a mirror. Clover approached and stared into the mirror for a few moments as she studied her reflection.
“There’s bound to be something important that I’m missing here,” Fanged muttered.
There was either a puzzle to be solved, or something hidden inside the mirror that needed to be found. Fanged started searching the mirror, seeing if it contained any hidden compartments. There were none. She tried turning the mirror over, but that didn't help. Just when she was about to give up, the woman felt around underneath the mirror. She let out a sound of triumph when she realized that she was able to peel the glass away from the wall it was attached to. Clover watched carefully, as though expecting something to happen.

Fanged continued to feel around, hoping to discover some kind of switch or lever. After a moment, she pulled out a small object that was apparently concealed beneath the mirror.
“Look, it's a book! Guess we aren’t getting rid of these things anytime soon,” she remarked to Clover.
Clover seemed unimpressed. She huffed and moved away from the mirror, trying to find if there was anything else in this room that might interest her. She came across a vase full of flower, but when she tried to take a bite, she discovered that they were made of fabric. Clover tried looking around the room again, but couldn't seem to find anything more interesting than the mirror. With an increasingly bored Gallor, Fanged decided to take the book with them and go to the next room. They walked back through the door and found themselves back in the hallway. Fanged had taken the candle and book with.

Fanged felt as though she had quite the haul by now, but nothing particularly useful in helping them find valuable items. Perhaps she should try pilfering through some more rooms and trying to find more keys. She and Clover walked further into the hallway, trying to find a door that would open for them.
“I think that one looks open,” Fanged remarked as she nudged Clover to redirect her attention to a nearby door.
They both approached it with some caution before entering through the door. Inside, they found a large, open room. There was a table set up near the center of the room, and on top of it was a half-finished puzzle, which appeared to have been abandoned there. Fanged felt a sudden urge to try and finish it, but first she wanted to check out the rest of the room. Clover trotted forward, her attention captured by something.

There was another mirror located in this room. When Clover and Fanged moved closer for a better look, Fanged realized that it was pointed directly at the puzzle on the table. Clearly that was no coincidence. Clover examined the mirror, decided she was uninterested in what it had to offer, and then quickly turned back to Fanged. The woman took a step forward, placing her palms against the glass. She applied pressure to see if the mirror would move at all. When it didn’t move, she gave up and returned to the puzzle. If there was any mystery to be solved here, that would be the place to start. Clover moved to the opposite end of the room. There was an assortment of furniture pieces. She immediately honed in on the colourful vases. They didn’t currently contain anything, but they did smell like plants. She huffed in disappointment and moved to the next area.

The puzzle wasn’t too tricky to figure out, but there were certainly a lot of pieces. Fanged pulled up a chair and sat down. It would take her a bit longer than she would like. Clover continued to investigate the furniture. She knocked over a stack of wooden stools and Fanged raised her head briefly to check out what the noise was. When she saw it was just Clover making mischief, she returned to the puzzle. As she made progress, she quickly figured out that the puzzle was depicting a forest scene. The trees were cut out from the image, and she could see the holes where the branches would be. She placed the pieces together to make a picture of a tree, then another, and another. When she was finished, a loud clicking noise resounded through the room. It was a mechanical whirring as gears clicked into place and began to move.

Suddenly, a small window opened up in the wall, revealing a green light. Fanged watched curiously as the light flickered and the mechanism within the frame continued to work. She had anticipated something to happen with the mirror, so this was a bit of an oddity. Clover backed away from the furniture and returned to investigate the light as well. The gears continued to grind together, pulling the entire wall down to reveal a new door as well. With the window, they could see into the next room.
Fanged decided to test the door, and when she pushed it open, she stepped inside. The room was dark, but she could see that it was full of shelves. She placed the candle on a nearby shelf and squinted as she tried to make out what was on the shelves. Clover was quick to follow her into the room and stood next to her.

The shelves appeared to be filled with an assortment of bottled ships. Fanged had an idea of how people managed to fit tiny ships into bottles, but she had never seen it done in person. She carefully selected one bottle from the row, hoping it wouldn't explode or anything. As she turned around, she noticed that Clover was standing close behind her. She couldn't tell whether Clover was trying to sneak up on her, or if she was just a little fearful of the room.
“Look, it’s okay. It just a little ship stuffed into a bottle,” Fanged remarked. She showed the bottle to the Gallor, ensuring that she could take a closer look. The Gallor snorted, not particularly interested in the strange trinket. Fanged placed the bottle back on the shelf and took a step back to see if anything stood out to her. The ships were each painted a different colour.

There might have been a puzzle here, but Fanged wasn’t quite sure of that. Her gaze flickered across the room and she quickly spotted a piece of paper sitting on the floor. Clover was drawn to it as well, but she was unable to pick it up herself. Fanged leaned down and grabbed the paper, holding it up to the candlelight so that she could read it.
“One of these bottles contains a liquid that turns its drinker invisible. However, another bottle contains a liquid that is full of poison. Both liquids appear identical. Choose wisely.” Fanged tilted her head as she read confused as to its purpose. “That honestly seems like a bad trade. The benefits of invisibility can be mimicked if one is crafty enough.”
She decided to leave the bottles alone for now and made sure to steer Clover away from them as well. Maybe there were more pieces of papers scattered about.

Some smaller, deft hands were also at work at a nearby distance on another set of shelves, pulling things of this-and-that quality, the little lerrels' nose wiggling in curious lightness at the wafting smells each object had. It had been lucky enough thus far not to have crossed paths with any hungrier beasts that could be lurking, as well as to avoid any substance that would otherwise harm it. The lerrel was far more interested in darting about the shelving, looking keenly for a spot of food, than fretting about what other, larger beings, might be doing in the same space...

Clover pricked her ears forward as she sensed another presence within the room. They were certainly not alone. A small critter was perched up high on a shelf, searching through a random assortment of objects as it looked for something to eat. Clover watched it for a while in silence before deciding to notify Fanged of their new friend. She approached the woman and let out a soft whinny. Both Fanged and the creature raised their heads in response. Immediately, Fanged recognized the little critter as a Lerrel. She had experience with them before, so she knew a bit about how to handle this encounter.
“Hi there, fella, are you looking for something to eat?” she spoke in a soft voice as she addressed the creature.
As her voice filled the otherwise silent room, she caught the attention of a second creature as well. The creature looked fae-like in appearance.
