When Fanged finished training Pachinko the move, she suddenly became aware of the strange thrum of magic that she often associated with the mansion. She moved towards the magic, following its trail until she found herself directly in front of a magic crystal. She tilted her head as she observed its power. She picked up the thrumming crystal, taking a moment to adjust to its magic before stuffing it in her backpack. It took her a few moments to get used to it. Once she had, she gestured for Pachinko to join her. When Pachinko flew to her shoulder, she made the decision to head to the next room. She chose the door on the right side of the room to head through. It was larger than the others and that made her curious to go through it. She pushed the door open and shared a glance with Pachinko before entering the next room.

Sunlight greeted her as they entered the room. Her first instinct was to tell her they were outside, but the four sturdy walls surrounding the room disproved that theory. The first thing that caught her attention was a wayward firefly. Pachinko took off after it, snapping at it vigorously with his newfound nip attack. Fanged rolled her eyes and followed, knowing that she’d need to interfere.
“Pachinko, no!” she told him as she swatted the air in front of him.
Pachinko let out an angry, screechy noise and changed course to avoid the draft that Fanged whipped up. He was forced away from the firefly, must to his displeasure. Only when Pachinko gave up his pursuit of the small insect completely was he rewarded with a treat. Pachinko changed his attitude quite quickly once he had a treat to munch on. While he ate, his interest in the firefly had dissipated.

However, once the treat had disappeared and Pachinko was thrust back into a realm of boredom, he remembered his pursuit of the firefly. When the firefly flew close once more, he kicked off into the air and chased after it frantically. Fanged swore under her breath. Why didn’t she remember to catch the forsaken thing when the Izer had been distracted?
“Pachinko no!” she scolded him as she got close enough to block his path to the firefly.
Pachinko tried to move around her, but she managed to block him at every turn. When he momentarily stopped his plight to get to the firefly, he was rewarded with another fruit treat. He relaxed considerably once he had retrieved his reward. However, the firefly was still a temptress and once he could figure out where it had gone, he would resume his hunt once more. Fanged wasn’t sure if he would eat the firefly or not.

She didn’t have to wait very long for her question to be answered. The firefly made itself known soon enough and Pachinko redirected himself to head straight for it. He snapped his jaws wildly, trying to hit the small creature with his nip attack. With the effort he was throwing into each motion Fanged wouldn’t be surprised if he hit it full on with a bite attack that he hadn’t been trained in.
“Pachinko, no!” She thrust an arm out in front of him, commanding him to halt. Pachinko stopped his movements, understanding that he had been told to stop his pursuit. He might not have been happy with this action, but he obeyed in hoped of receiving another one of those delicious treats. Sensing his anticipation, Fanged quickly handed him one that he devoured quickly. In order for the training to truly stick, Pachinko would need to stop chasing the firefly altogether.

However, that was a little easier said than done. When the firefly flew close to the Izer, Fanged felt confident in her sudden insight that the darned bug was teasing him. A strange surge of annoyance fluttered in her chest. Somehow, she felt the bug was getting the best of them. But it was still a better training opportunity than if she simply allowed Pachinko to eat said insect. When the Izer had enough of the teasing, he resumed his pursuit with a renewed, fiery intensity. Fanged allowed him to have a little bit of freedom in his chase. When he drew close enough to catch the firefly, she called out the command to stop.
“Pachinko, no!” she said sharply.
Pachinko quickly veered to the side as he did his best to get away from the bug. He knew that Fanged was asking him not to chase it anymore. To his surprise, the woman was then quick to catch the firefly that he had abandoned with surprising skill.
“Good boy, Pachinko!” she praised him.

July July had crossed over quite quickly. Sometimes the months passed by quicker than Fanged could anticipate. She and Pachinko had finished up their last trip through the mansion and now she was back with a different pet. Zipper had been acquired from Zoological Imports. She didn’t have a history for him prior to that, but he seemed content enough to have been picked up by her. The Faeron was awfully tiny and Fanged couldn’t help but worry that he would be defeated quite quickly by any wayward beast that they might come across. “Well, I suppose we should get started with our exploration,” she informed the small Faeron that clung to her shoulder. Zipper was an inquisitive creature, but also quite cautious. Fanged decided she liked the mix of his personality as she moved to open the door to the mansion. They were greeted immediately by the presence of salty water. (Zipper 0 1/5, 0 1/5) 1

Fanged had never been the type to go to the beach and hangout along the shore. She didn’t mind the beach per says, but she hadn’t exactly gone out of her way to visit it before. She doubted that Zipper had even been to the beach before. Even though he had been already grown when she had purchased him, he didn’t seem to have much in the way of experience.
“Stay close to me, boy,” she whispered to him.
The sand was hot underfoot even through the protection of her shoes. She looked up, expecting her gaze to be met with the presence of sunlight. Surprisingly, the room was completely enclosed and there weren’t any windows to let in natural lighting. Zipper crawled up her shoulder. He squinted as he took in the sights of the room. Regrowing him to his baby stage had been a good idea. It would allow him to mature in a nurturing environment.

She didn’t think Zipper had experienced any trauma in his past life, but growing up in Zoological Import couldn’t have been healthy on the psyche. The Faeron scanned the room with boldness in his gaze. If there had been any occupants, she doubted he would have been fearful of them.
“Time to get the lay of the land. The mansion has changed once again, so I’m not quite so familiar with it.”
Zipper may not have a proper grasp on her words, but tone could convey a lot. He relaxed considerably as she stepped around the room. The water that pooled around her feet was intriguing to him and he crawled down her arm for a closer look. She lowered him so that he could be close to the water. Zipper’s nostrils flared as the scent of salt hit them, stronger than he had ever experienced. Fanged smiled at the sight.

The Faeron was intrigued with the water, but cautious enough that he didn’t wish to touch it. Rather, he was content to observe. Fanged decided that she liked that about him. She hadn’t spent much time with Zipper, but they gelled pretty well together. If they kept up like this, it wouldn’t be long before he was joining her on any cases that might come her way. For now, they would find their footing together in the mansion. The room they were currently in was a curious mix of sand and water. Sand covered the entire floor and then deep pools of brine collected in the various holes that had eroded in the surface of the ground. On closer inspection, the pools of water hosted a variety of creatures that had been pulled straight from the ocean. Fanged didn’t consider them valuable, but they certainly were interesting to look at.

When Fanged crouched down next to the closest tidepool, Zipper crawled down so that he could perch on her fingertips. She lowered him to the warm sand and the small Faeron slowly moved forward so that he was perched on the ground next to the water. Fanged let him take his time. Natural caution was not something she wanted to discourage, so she wouldn’t rush Zipper along.
“Looks like there are some starfish in there,” she remarked.
She didn’t know all that much about ocean life, but she did know that a starfish had eyes attached to the end of each limb. The thought was a little unnerving, but Fanged knew that was because she was already squeamish when it came to eyes. Zipper watched as the small creatures moved about in their confined pool. If there was anyplace to throw them, she would have considered moving them. However, there was no larger pool of water.

She allowed Zipper to take his time in observing the tidepool. When he was finished, he crawled back up her arm and she took him over towards the next one. She lowered him and allowed him to crawl back onto the sand once it was clear that the tidepool didn’t contain anything dangerous. Fanged looked as well. The tidepool was quite deep. Fanged was a bit worried of Zipper falling in, but the Faeron was keeping a careful distance from the water. To her surprise, there were a variety of small fish swimming around in the small pool! She felt the desire to help them out of their confinement, but she knew that this was the natural cycle for various marine life. Fanged sat cross-legged as she and Zipper watched the tidepool. Her attention was drawn to a little fish that looked different from the others. Instinct told her it was a pocketpet.

With delight, Fanged scooped up the aquatic pocketpet and placed it securely in a tank like container held within her backpack. She also found a few shells that caught her interest and she placed them inside as well. Zipper crawled back up her arm in order to peer into her backpack as she was zipping it up.
“This is where we’ll be keeping everything we find,” she informed him.
Zipper seemed to understand and watched closely as she zipped her backpack closed. When the bag was closed, she patted it just to ensure that everything was secure. With that done, she took Zipper over to the next tidepool. This one was filled with coral. Fanged was quite surprised that it was able to thrive in such an environment. Coral was quite fragile and if she dared to touch it, she very well might kill it. Not wanting that on her conscious, she moved on.
