After that though, her vegetable patch was free and clear... well, except for where the leaves of her plants had been nibbled off. She sighed as she plucked a ruined leaf from a nearby pumpkin. "Guess I'll be harvesting that one first, eh Sasha?" Fiera said. The little prehistoric creature had been quite interested in the galabex and was now sniffing around where it once was. The humanish was surprised to see how well Sasha did with other creatures, considering how young and undersocialized she was herself. She supposed she should be happy about that though- it would be far fewer problems in her future. "Well, let's get to it then, eh?" Fiera said. Without further ado, she gently tied Sasha's leash to the wheelbarrow. The stomper had a lot of loose thread to work with, but it ensured that she couldn't go running off... or at least not without making some horrible squeaks.

Now convinced that Sasha would be ok on her own, Fiera turned to the pumpkins once more. There were other vegetables she could harvest today of course, but they seemed to be as good an option as any. The humanish spun on her heel and walked back to where she had left her backpack, leaned up against the wheelbarrow. Sasha was sniffing at it gently, but skipped away as Fiera approached and leaned down. It took little effort to undo the zipper and peer inside before reaching in and pulling out a set of gardening shears. She didn't have to use these for the easier to harvest plants- beans and tomatoes and whatnot- but for the thick vines of the pumpkin plants, she was sure she'd need these. Sasha watched curiously as she got up and walked back to the plants, giving her shears a few test clicks on the way there.

Sure enough, the first vine cut like butter when she put the shears against it. The second didn't take long at all to get through either, and the humanish found herself grateful that she had had them sharpened before the harvest season began. She continued like that, going through all of her pumpkins and carefully shearing them from their moorings. She left the gourds there for now, however- she could always gather them up later. Sasha trundled along behind her, sniffing at leaves and occasionally grabbing one for herself, munching loudly as she followed her owner. The young fossil didn't know any commands yet (though perhaps that was Fiera's own fault), but she seemed more than happy to follow Fiera around regardless, obediently stepping in her bootprints. The humanish made her way down the row of gourds, snipping one vine after another until finally the job was complete and she came to the end of the row.

Fiera looked back at her work- and at Sasha, who was sitting right in the middle of the path and staring at her while eating a leaf as big as her whole torso. Fiera snorted as the baby tilted her head curiously, chewing loudly on her finding. "...Well, at least I don't have to worry about feeding you a snack before we leave, eh?" She said with a brief laugh. Then she turned to the nearest pumpkin and tried to lift it. It was heavy, no doubt, but it was certainly doable. She crouched down and hefted it up and onto her hips. Then she hobbled back down the path between the rows of now harvested pumpkins and plopped it down in the wheelbarrow. The metal bucket squeaked as it toppled to the bottom of it, pushing the whole contraption another inch down in the soil. Still, there was room for more.

After briefly admiring the pumpkin she had just harvested, Fiera stopped procrastinating and turned to go get the others as well. Thankfully, that gourd was one of the biggest ones as it turned out… or perhaps she was just getting used to their weight. The rest of the pumpkins didn’t feel nearly as heavy as it stood, and she was easily able to swing them up, hobble them down the path, and plop them in the wheelbarrow. Sasha followed her eagerly of course, acting more like a houluh than a reptile. That made Fiera think, though. She still had so many houluh she needed to train… she would need to bring one of them out gardening one of these days to get them used to her presence. ESPECIALLY now that she had done that big breeding-fest with Jack and created three more puppies for herself. Her list of pups to train was only growing.

Not that she disliked training Houluh of course. She had gotten many beautiful looking puppies from her latest breedings, and it excited her to see what they’d grow up into. “…Just takes a lot of work first.” Fiera said to herself with a grunt as she lifted another pumpkin into the wheelbarrow. The patch was starting to be cleared out now. Fiera mused more about her houluh as she worked, but there wasn’t much other work to be done by this point. Instead she and Sasha wandered around the patch, looking for any small stragglers that may have been left behind. Fiera cried out as Sasha found one and began eating it to the humanish’s dismay. She tried to nab it from her but the fossil ran off, hiding under the wheelbarrow with her prize. Fiera huffed and decided to let her have it- it was too damaged to sell now anyway.

Sasha was quite happy with her conquest, and Fiera heard happy little squeaks and crunches coming from under the wheelbarrow. “…Well, at least it’ll keep her occupied for a while.” Fiera relented. The humanish wouldn’t be constantly tripping over her or getting spooked by her now. When she thought about it though, fossil creatures were a lot like houluh. Not in appearance of course- they weren’t even mammals- but in how they required so much love and care in order to grow into their final forms. They did this much more slowly than houluh though, perhaps because of their slower metabolism. Fiera had only met one fully grown fossil so far, and had heard of precious few others that had even started to grow. It was going to take a lot of work for Sasha (and her other fossils, Serendipity and Snapdragon) to grow up. Fiera had her work cut out for her.

Still, it wouldn’t be too much hard work on her end. All she had to do was take care of the little creature, and how hard could that be? She was already quite happy taking care of herself based on how happily she was crunching on that pumpkin. Speaking of pumpkins, Fiera was just about out of those. She had been kicking around the dying vines for a few minutes now and hadn’t managed to uncover anything else. So it was about time that she moved on. The humanish scanned the rest of her vegetable patch. “How about… zucchini.” She said to herself, knowing full well that it would take forever to harvest. Fiera personally hated the green vegetable. It was flavorless a d disgusting. But other people liked it well enough, especially in the form of pickles, and they plant grew like a weed wherever she put a seed down.

In fact, it almost grew TOO fast, to the point where Fiera knew she was going to have to hack it back a bit with her garden shears once she was done harvesting the crop. She was sure that if she left the plant to it’s own devices (so to speak), it would completely invade her garden and fill it with The Worst Vegetable. “At least it sells well.” Fiera said to herself with an irritated flick of her ear as she approached the bone. Maybe she could feed Sasha a few of these while she was at it too. She left the shears on the ground for now though, knowing that she wouldn’t need them until later. Zucchini were easily picked by hand, and she had thick gloves on anyway. Without further ado she got started, keeping a keen eye out for the long vegetables and snapping them off with a flick of her wrist.

Fiera was still clicking away at the zucchini with her shears when a sudden commotion made her look up. A clicking and chittering... what WAS that? She watched as Sasha pulled herself even further under the wheelbarrow, hiding from the rustling in the nearby bushes. Within moments, several creatures burst onto the scene. A koguma was there, holding a large pear in its 'hands', followed by two pachee with red, berry-stained paws. They circled the koguma, puffing up their back leaves and tails. It looked like they QUITE wanted the pear the creature was holding, and weren't afraid to fight it to get it. Well, Fiera wasn't about to watch a brawl go down in her garden. She stood up, scooping up a few zucchinis as she did. "Hey!" She called, trying to get their attention. "How about you guys take some of these instead?" She said, holding out one of the green vegetables.

Their attention is certainly grabbed. One squabbling pachee leaps behind the other in fright, while the koguma chatters away with renewed vigour, upset at being harassed by so many things. It just wants its pear!
The braver of the two pachee is intrigued by your offering, though. It begins to move towards you, even as its sibling worries at its back leaves.

The creatures seemed surprised, but not aggressive. Fiera was sure that the koguma would calm down so long as it was left alone to keep its prize. Sasha wasn't about to leap out at it, based on how the little fossil was cowering under the wheelbarrow, so that meant that all she had to do was keep these pachee distracted. "Hey, guys... come here." She said, a bit more quietly and calmly now that she had their attention. She squatted down to avoid scaring them, and held out the zucchini a bit further. She just had to get them to come a little bit closer, and then maybe she could hold out her hand for them to sniff, or something of that ilk, so they wouldn't be quite so afraid. "That's it, just a bit further." She cooed in a voice that was normally uncharacteristic of her- but she was willing to use it around cute animals.

The koguma is far more relaxed now the pachee are more interested in you. It sags with relief, patting its prize pear; no more pesky beasts trying to steal it!
The pachee twins are getting bolder. It's the lure of the zucchini, no doubt. The braver one is quick to put its stained red paws on it, while the sibling keeps an eye on you, leaning forward to sniff at your fingers.

Fiera watched as the koguma settled down, no longer frantic about not being able to keep its pear. Good- that meant she had one down, two to go. The pachee seemed less scared now as well, and they approached her cautiously. She was happy to set down the zucchini so they could eat it. Considering that pachee ate by mashing things up with their feet, she figured they’d have a hard time eating it right out of her hand. She had plenty more in her basket anyway if they decided they wanted more. When one of them came up to sniff her fingers she allowed it, keeping her fingers loosely curled and below it’s head so it wouldn’t think she was trying to grab it. From there, she reached out one finger to give it a little scritch on the shoulder. Hopefully it would enjoy that and not see her as a threat.
