(Post count rectified) It took only a couple of seconds for the man to calm and regain his sense of self. The thing he felt here.. Was Alerios, no doubt. Right. And.. They were beginning to roam that strange mansion. Then it warped around them. Yes, that sounded right. This wasn't the first time he'd experienced this strange occurrence after all. The manor had a tendency to quite literally change with the times. What triggered the change exactly was beyond him.
[Alerios?], the man prodded the wiurn in thought, not wanting to spook the beast too much from his touch. His eyes gradually grew accustomed to this dark, making out the wavy lines which radiated along the wiurn's wing webbing and tracing them so while he waited for a reply.
{... Mmm..}, a groggy reply came, the reptile's body stirring ever so slightly, {Dark.. Night..} The more.. Simple mind of the wiurn was something to appreciate at times (like now).

It was a relief that the beast didn't press any thoughts such as 'pained' or 'scared'. With a deep breath, Xentus fully collected himself and again pressed a hand into the wiurn's wing membrane - this time to nudge it away and free himself from its confines. At first, the wing began to lift.. Then protectively lurched down tight, digits curling around the leopard. The beast the wing was attached to seemed to come to with a start, a growl rumbling from deep within its chest toward the all-encompassing dark.
[Alé..?], the leopard warily prodded, startled by the sudden change in demeanor. The creature's groggy flowing thoughts now cleared into more distinct awareness - cautious about the sudden change in the surroundings and time.. Wanting to protect its keeper from whatever new danger was present. Xentus could feel the muscular body of the serpent move about as it undoubtedly scanned the room they were in. And after a few more moments, the growling subsided.

[It is okay, Alerios. All is fine, my friend], the man assured the beast as he rubbed its wing gently, [This place has an odd habit of rearranging the decor when one least expects]. It took another minute for the beast to process his words and put them in respect with their current situation. Thoughtful near-silence occupied this time. Though Xentus didn't mind the protective embrace he was in, the confines of the wiurn's wing wasn't what he most wanted to be in at the moment. He wanted to see the change of time. What did the manor deem appropriate for their adventure now?
Finally, the wiurn rose to its feet and lifted its wing to release its keeper. The room revealed itself to his eyes- a near pitch black area with glimmering motes hovering about the air. It mimicked starlight twinkling at night.. A beautiful sight. And one that was familiar.

It was like his first journey to this place, when he brough the ling-ling.. An odd array of physics-defying rooms, chambers of dark, chasms of crystal, and the ticking of clocks. A thoughtful hum escaped the man as he surveyed the area further, eyes trying to find any semblance of a wall or door. But the dark made it impossible. His nightvision was unfortunately lacking.. All he could see were the faintly glowing motes. While they didn't provide much in the way of illumination in general, they could be a hint to a path.. The leopard's eyes flicked between the various floating lights, tracing them first visually, then tracked after them physically. A clawed hand was kept on the wiurn beside him, prompting it to follow alongside him as he wandered. There could only be so much 'depth' to a room before he would start making his way to a wall, right?

The light could be leading him in circles for all he knew. But the pattern of faux-stars didn't seem to repeat. And there wasn't much else to go by either.. He could only hope he was going.. Somewhere. As long as Alerios was with him, though, he felt safe. The wiurn's passive thoughts were a mix of confusion and sleepiness, filling his mind with more noise than just the clacking of claws against the cold floor. It was almost comforting to hear the mind-buzz. Occasionally, he'd pause to pass a reassuring word to the wiurn and rub into its mane, then continued forward. The motes seemed to hover lower and lower to the ground as they followed along, and soon enough (or so it seemed) there was a break in the dark. Xentus squinted at the dimly lit form, making his approach more slow.. It was hard to make out, but he could now instead feel something. A pulse. An echo of magic.

He had felt this kind of thing before. That gentle hum of magic from crystalline sources. Normally that feeling would hit him in the depths of the underground. But considering the nature of this mansion, he wasn't really struck as surprised. It only took a moment before he resolved himself to follow it. Toward that break in the dark. Alerios kept up with its master's sudden change of pace, adding more confusion to its low hum of thought. Though it couldn't feel the magic, it could see a shape. A podium? In the midst of this empty room, a lonely podium stood out, waiting for them. And upon its surface, the source of the hum. A hollowed crystal. Xentus wasn't sure what to think of it. Surprise? Suspense? Hope, even? The leopard's eyes traced the marbled surface of the structure in search of anything which might clue him in on the meaning of this fixture.

But, there was none. No reason or explanation. He'd be disappointed if it weren't typical of this place. Seeing his only choices were to take the crystal or leave and wander further, he opted for the first. A tentative clawed hand reached out slowly, wary of the potential danger of a hidden trap of trigger. Alerios watched on, curious and confused, pressing itself closer to its keeper in an effort to comfort him. With his fingertips hovering above the crystalline surface, the man made up his resolve and touched the magic source. A shiver rippled up his fingers, down his arm, and jolted through his body. And the dark room around them suddenly flashed into white light. Blinded, Xentus recoiled back into the safety of the wiurn's mane, fingers now clutching the crystal. Alerios let out a disgruntled roar as the light assaulted its eyes, as if to warn the sudden brightness to stay back.

The sudden wash of light lasted for only a few seconds before subsiding into a more gentle, flame-lit glow. With a grunt of displeasure, the mammalian opened the eyes of his squinted face to take the first daring look about the chamber they were in. No longer was it an endless expanse of dark and twinkling stars, but instead a.. Study? Bookshelves lined the walls, a fireplace gentle crackled, and a lone desk was situated in the rear. A stark contrast from only moments ago. The mansion had willed itself into change once more. This one was a little more welcoming, at least. A mental prod to the wiurn assured it that everything seemed to be fine at first glance.. Alerios warily opened its eyes and slowly scanned the room to affirm its keeper's word. To it, the warning roar proved effective. A satisfied snort escaped the beast as it uncoiled itself from around the mammalian, hardly realizing it had done so protectively.

The man hummed a thanks to the furred reptile, rubbing its mane. Alerios was much more responsive to defending his person, huh? A smile cracked the man's muzzle. Then, his eyes turned to the crystal clutched in his other hand. The pulsating from it was much weaker now.. Had it expended some magic changing their surroundings? Or rather, did the mansion tap into it to do so? Now, he wasn't too immersed in the ways of the arcane, but he did know people tapped into nodes to procure magic powers for themselves.. And those nodes were made from crystals. That was about the extent of his knowledge. Heck, he wasn't even sure what kind of crystal was in his palm at the moment. It certainly looked different from the ones he'd unearthed or traded for. Questions to be answered later, when he got back home. The magic artifact was stowed away and his attention was returned to the manor itself.

The wandering about this place certainly took an unexpected turn. But really, he couldn't even begin to expect anything of the manor. A light chuckle escaped the leopard, followed by a sigh. Might as well get a vague bearing of the surroundings, he figured. Even though it likely meant nothing, knowing how this place was but a maze of endless chambers.. There was an archway big enough for Alerios to fit through on the (assumed) southern wall, which led out into a wide corridor. There was also a fanciful door on the eastern wall which the wiurn might be able to squeeze though with enough convincing. After his quick look about themselves, the leopard decided to travel on the path of least resistance.. For now. But not before his innate sense of curiosity prompted him to peep beyond the wooden door. Alerios waited patiently for the leopard's call, simply watching from this comfortable spot on the rug.

The wooden door slowly creaked open as the man turned the knob and lightly pressed against it. His nose was greeted by the dainty scent of freshly brewed tea.. An aroma that was herbaceous and floral, with a slight touch of honey. It was oddly welcoming.. He could feel his wariness melt away, surrendering to the pleasant scent. Despite knowing it was best to not let his guard down, he couldn't help but to be entranced. Until it proved otherwise, what would be the harm in indulging? His sense of reason was drifting away.. With the last few strands of it remaining, he called for the wiurn to come with him as he allowed himself into the candle-lit tea room. Alerios tilted its head curiously at the thin opening it was being asked to traverse, but didn't dare resist against its keeper's call. The reptile first craned its neck through the doorway, and immediately its nostrils were assaulted by the scent.

Having no favor for the floral aroma, the creature only thought the room heavily perfumed and none too appealing. A perturbed snort escaped the beast, growing slightly less willing to follow after the leopard.. Its eyes lingered on the man as he seated himself at the rounded table to get comfortable. It seemed its keeper had some business of some sort here unfortunately. If Alerios could frown, it would. It took some effort to squeeze through the thin opening, strands of fur shedding off the reptile as it pushed and struggled. Xentus paid it little mind, hands busy rifling about the various items scattered on the table. An origami flower, a decorative card, a pretty lace doily.. Intricate and cute in its own way. Though this manner of decor usually wasn't to the man's taste, he could appreciate it in some way. His fingers delicately twirled the paper flower, marveling at its crafted beauty.

A mental note was made; learn origami some time. That sounded like a fun skill.. Not one which many boasted about, but rather an act done to achieve a zen state. Much like tending to a rock garden or meditating. Appealing. Now then, how about the tea? An elegant looking tea set was the centerpiece of the table, drawing him in. A hand hovered near the base of the kettle, feeling for warmth. And it did feel warm indeed. Likely though magic means; he didn't question it. The real question was, did it really contain any drinkable liquid? Or was it all a mere illusion.. The kettle felt heavy as he lifted it, and it did feel like there was something sloshing about within. It tilted, and poured forth with a golden brown, steaming liquid. Xentus was almost entirely drawn into the experience, if not for the sudden clash of wood and scales snapping his attention away.
