What was it with kittens in the garden? Silver wasn’t entirely sure what compelled them to continue to bring kittens to the garden, but there they were with another one. This one was a species they were actually unfamiliar with. It was one of the new creatures released by that place… what was it called again? Womp? Something like that. Silver tried not to think about that too much. All that really mattered was that they were here with their new friend Fee. So far, Fee hadn’t done much worth noting. She was a quiet creature who tended to keep to herself. She was sickly and small, something that had alarmed Silver at first. Apparently, her species had particularly helpless infants. Some creatures could run within minutes of being born, and some took years to take their first steps. Where she fell on that line, well, they would just have to figure that out. 26 - 11[131.2; 0.2]

Whatever the case, Silver was happy to spend some time with their new friend. She was pretty cute, and who knew what she would grow up to be like. The possibilities made them curious.
Silver had Fee cradled in their arms as they wandered into the safety of their garden plot. This was their happy place, and when they thought about it, it was obvious why they brought creatures here to bond. The familiar smells and feel of their garden made them relax subconsciously before they could even see it.
“You will love it here,” Silver said softly. They loved it there, so it only made sense that she would too. Not that she had much to say about it so far. She had hardly even seen the place. She closed her eyes and buried her nose in the crook of their arm without looking around. She must trust them, they thought.

“Well alright, then,” Silver responded. They didn’t know what she was up to, but they wouldn’t stop her. She seemed quite content to just be close to them. It was very cute, they had to admit, but they also wanted to show her around a bit. Maybe later she would be more open to the idea.
Silver looked around the garden plot and started to make a mental list of what needed to be done. It was partway into the autumn season, which meant that a lot of plants needed to be either removed or shielded from the harshness of winter. Many food bearing plants were ready to be harvested, as well. Not to mention the creatures such as the succulent worm which dropped seeds at an alarming rate.
There was so much to do, but Silver didn’t really feel motivated to do any of it. At that moment, all they wanted to do was pat Fee and relax. So, that’s exactly what they did.

They found a nice mossy rock to sit on and set their bag to the side, adjusting their arms so that they didn’t drop Fee while moving the strap up and over their head. Then they slowly eased down and sat gently on the stone.
They already knew this particular stone was a comfortable spot to sit, of course. They had tested each and every one in the garden. Then, they painstakingly moved all of them so that they had comfortable places to sit exactly where they needed them. Thankfully, they had the aid of some pretty strong creatures to get where they were now.
Quin realized that Silver sitting down meant that they probably weren’t going to go on any ambitious exploration missions anytime soon. He chirped and floated up into the trees. Just as Silver had favorite stones and logs to sit on, Quin had favorite trees to perch in. He floated through the leaves and found one he liked. Now he could see the entire garden, just in case anything caught his eye.

“You are a bit of a mystery, little one,” Silver said. They gently stroked Fee’s head with their fingertips. She subtly pressed into their touch, starved for attention but still cautious around the near stranger.
Silver idly stroked the fur along her back as they looked her over again. They had first met her when she hatched, of course, though she had grown a bit since then. It was a surprise to them when she finally opened her third crystal blue eye for the first time. They apparently had not had a close enough look at her face before that. She also had more than one tail, which was actually… just one split into two at the end? Well they could deal with that.
They did wonder what the bow was for, but she never took it off and they got a weird feeling whenever they thought about taking it off for her. It didn’t seem to bother her, so why not leave it?

Come to think of it, the egg had a ribbon, too. Was it the same one? It reminded them of Alan’s magical ribbons, so it must be important. They decided that they would leave it be unless she suggested otherwise.
As Silver was stroking her pearly white fur and thinking about what kind of creature she might grow into, Fee realised that she was pretty hungry. Was there any food around this place? She opened her eyes and looked at the hand coming back and forth toward their face.
Nom!
She grabbed Silver’s finger with her sharp little teeth and bit down hard. Silver made an awkward hissing noise and yanked their hand away. Very rarely did they get bitten by something so cute and harmless looking, especially after they had been petting her for multiple minutes! They shook their hand around in the air, more startled than in pain.

“Oi! What’s the meaning of that?” Silver asked, their voice turning from a shocked shout into a more measured tone mid-sentence.
They took a deep breath so that they didn’t accidentally yell again and said, “Now that’s not very nice. We don’t eat fingers.”
They laughed lightly, hoping that they hadn’t upset her too much. As frustrating as it was to be bitten, they also didn’t want to scare the poor thing. They could teach her gently not to bite again, but only if they didn’t make an enemy of her first. Though they might be a little too sensitive, really. She wouldn’t hate them forever if they yelled, even if they did it more than once. They’d rather not take the risk, though.
Silver figured that she wouldn’t have done that unless she was unhappy about something. Was she tired? Did she like not to be touched? Was she hungry?

Actually, that last one made a lot of sense. When was the last time they fed her? Well, luckily they had brought some food with them. A little creature like her was bound to get hungry more often than an older creature, so they made sure to have something on hand for it.
“Just a moment, then,” Silver said. They hadn’t explained the rest of the information that led them to the thought, of course. Not that they thought Fee minded. They actually had no idea if she understood them or not, but either way, they didn’t make much sense even if they were actively trying. She would get used to it.
Their bag was around here somewhere, wasn’t it? Silver rummaged around through the grassy overgrowth to find their bag. It was, of course, right where they had set it. Ah well. That would have been embarrassing if anyone was watching, but they weren’t. It was just Silver and Fee.

“I have some of that, ah, stuff you like,” Silver said. They pulled a can out from their bag. Inside was the highest quality mushed up meat. They hated the stuff, of course, but they knew that Fee was nuts for it. So there they were, reluctantly pulling open a tin of it.
“Here we go,” they said, resting her into the crook of their elbow as they used the little hook attached to the lid to rip it open. The smell was unpleasant and they immediately wrinkled their nose. There was nothing pleasant about tinned meat. They couldn't believe that anything at the stuff willingly.
Fee, on the other hand, had exactly the opposite reaction. She wriggled with delight, freeing herself from their clutches. She landed safely on her tiny paws and looked up at them expectantly. They better drop the food, lest she start finding more places to bite them.

“Of course, of course,” they said with a smile. They moved to drop the tin on the ground, but before they could get there, Fee pushed it down with her face, already starting to tear big chunks of the jelly-like substance out. Silver yanked their hands away for fear of getting mistaken for meat again.
“You sure are a hungry little thing,” Silver said. It wasn’t unusual for a baby creature to be hungry, but there was something especially ravenous about her. They could only wonder why.
Since they were sitting there next to their bag anyway, Silver pulled out a sketchpad and some charcoal. They quickly sketched out a few doodles of Fee, each one emphasizing a different feature of her unique form. Then they did a few that speculated about the way she might grow, such as how big her ears might get and whether her tail would get longer in comparison to her body like most other kittens.

Scritch scratch. The charcoal made a soft scratching sound against the page. Silver lifted it for a moment, then heard a louder version of it. Scratch, scrape, skitter. They had long since become used to the sounds of their own creatures wandering about, so this could only be something out of the ordinary. They looked down to see Fee gulping down more food, but she wasn't making a sound. What could it be?
There was something in the bushes making a sound. Thinking it could be trouble, Silver quickly but quietly made their way over to the rustling. They cautiously lifted a branch out of the way so that they could see what was happening. It was a Koguma! Not one of theirs, either. Silver was very familiar with the species, as they were common in the gardens and they owned a few of their own.
"Ah, oh, oh dear," they said. Their voice was low so that they didn't cause too much trouble.

The Koguma was clicking anxiously, making a sound that immediately made Silver want to do anything they could to help. They couldn't stand to see any creature suffer, and hearing a creature cry out in stress made their heart swell.
"Ah, little one, it will be alright," they said in their most soothing voice. Their ears were low and their tail pinned to the side of their leg. They were doing everything they could to appear harmless and small. 'I won't hurt you,' their body posture said. Not that all creatures inherently understood.
"Is this, ah, your fruit, here?" Silver said. They kept talking in a low, slow voice to try and soothe the creature. They kept their head up and their eyes on the Koguma as they reached down for the fruit. "Do you want this back? Why don't I give you this, and maybe I can take a look, a look at that, ah, leg of yours."

Silver gently pushed the fruit toward the Koguma so it had something to distract it from its misery. The creature tried to jump back away from the rolling thread, but it couldn't get away. It clicked with defeat and looked down at the fruit. That was its favorite fruit. It would be a shame if it died there, all alone and hungry, when there was such a nice fruit right there...
The Koguma cautiously lowered its head and nibbled on the fruit. Meanwhile, Silver was already sneaking around the side of it to look at its foot. It was wrapped up in a vine, and a particularly tough one, too. It would be too risky to untie it, so they would have to break the vine away.
"Okay, steady, steady," Silver said. They held one hand out so that the Koguma didn't suddenly jump at them, and they used their other hand to quickly grab the vine. This was it. The moment of truth. If they messed up, well they might get bitten, but it would be okay.
