Lotine were such a gentle, peaceful species. They were lovely to watch, Silver always thought. It had the same kind of feeling they got when sitting in a beautiful forest, or swimming in a pristine pool of water. They couldn't get too lost in that thought, however. They had to remain focused and make sure that they got this right. They didn't want to scare the poor thing away.
"Ah, it's nice, isn't it?" Silver asked. It was truly just some dried treats they always carried around with them, but they did the job well. If anything they were especially tasty, the piscivore version of a packet of chips.
Prism quickly chewed through her treat, and again she put her needle-like claws into their pant leg to ask for more. She could have just asked, they thought, but they also knew that hanging out with kittens meant they'd get at least a little bit clawed up.
"Here here," they said, dropping a few of the treats on the ground for Prism and tossing a few more within reach of the Lotine. "What do you think?" Silver asked the Lotine, as if she would answer. Not only could Lotine not talk, but they actually made almost no sound whatsoever. They smiled to themselves and carried on.

Flicking its tail, the Lotine sniffed at the treats thrown at it and then nodded toward the Koguma. The insect came over and looked at the person as well as the Lotine nibbled on the food. Well, this was good, they both knew, and having some food was better than having none!
[Congratulations, you've tamed the creatures!]

Once things calmed down a bit, Silver decided that they had enough time to look for some Koguma treats as well. They had to have some in the bag somewhere, and they didn't want the poor guy to get left out. Eventually they found some and shared with the Koguma and emptied their fish treats out for the Lotine as well. They were welcome to stay here, in the garden, as their new home. Silver would welcome them with open arms and frequent treats. Though the Lotine might need to be relocated so that she didn't conflict with Lei-lei. One thing at a time, though.
"Well, where were we?" Silver asked Prism after they were sure their new friends were comfortable.
'Flowers,' Prism responded, her voice ringing in Silver's head. It would always be unusual to hear the voice of a creature without actually hearing it, but if anyone was use to that, it was them.
"Right right, I'll show you some of my favorites, come alone," Silver said. They led Prism past the Lotine and into a little patch of flowers that they favored. "Isn't it lovely? I especially like the color on these ones," Silver said, pointing to a blue one.

Blue was an unusual color in nature, so Silver was pleased to find it when they did. Often only things like butterflies and flowers were blue, though the labs had other things to say about that. It made them happy to see a brightly colored flower against the sea of green plants. Would Prism feel the same? Come to think of it, her coat was pretty bright, too, with its neon colors against stark white fur.
Silver suddenly realized that they had left Kwist alone for a while as they dealt with other things. They twisted their neck around to see what she was doing. She was laying under a fern and resting. That was good. Silver almost panicked there for a moment, thinking that she would feel so abandoned and hurt if they left her, but she was totally fine. They really needed to relax some times.
'This one,' Prism said, gently touching a yellow flower with her paw. That was her favorite one, she decided.
"That's an excellent choice," Silver said with a smile. They were happy to see her opening up a bit. Mosca could be so shy, so it was always nice when they started to be more comfortable around someone.

Silver idly fiddled with some flowers for a moment, unsure of what to do next. There was a moment of silence, which wouldn’t have been awkward except for Prism staring up at them. It was almost as if she was asking them to do or say… something, but nothing came to their mind.
“Ah… sorry,” they said sheepishly. They were feeling a little off that day, and they couldn’t quite put their finger on why. By all means, they should have been having a great day. They got to spend time in their favorite place with a super cute and curious kitten. What more could they ask for?
Quin chirped and fluttered into view. Prism jumped slightly, having forgotten that he was resting nearby. She watched the ghostly dragon fly overhead and land next to their friend the Whiptail Vinesnatcher. She chirped cutely and bounced over to see what he was up to.

Silver supposed that made the decision for them. They pushed themself off the ground and wandered over to where Quin was circling overhead. He landed on their head, as he often did, with his eyes still fixed on the ground. What was that?
“Oh, would you look at that…” Silver said. They gently knelt down to take a look at the thing Quin's eyes were fixated on. It was a little creature, only the size of their palm, really, but it looked just like a shrunk down version of Kwist.
“It’s a Wyrmling,” they explained. They picked it up gently and held it up for Quin and Prism to see. It allowed itself to be moved around without much fuss, thankfully. “They grow from the buds on Kwist’s back. Isn’t that fascinating?”
“We’re very lucky,” they continued. “It means that Kwist is healthy, and that she trusts us to look after it.”

That second part they actually weren’t so sure about. Was Kwist smart enough to understand the implications of dropping the small, helpless offspring so close to them, or was she more like a plant that tossed seeds into the wind, merely hoping for the best? They weren’t sure they’d ever know, but they liked to think that Kwist knew that her Wyrmling would be safe in their hands.
“Tan,” Prism said, looking at the little creature all curled up.
“Hm?” Silver tilted their head, not sure they understood what she meant. The Wyrmling was tan, yes, but that didn’t seem to be what Prism was getting at.
“Green,” she said, flicking her tail in the direction of Kwist.
“Oh!” Silver felt silly that they hadn’t even noticed that the Wyrmling was a very different color from its Whiptail parent. “Yes, ah, they can be different colors, yep,” they said.

Most Wyrmlings were shades of green and brown but some of them were even vibrant purple or red. It never occurred to them before, but that was a rather unusual trait. No wonder she was curious about it.
“I like it,” Prism responded with a soft purr. She thought the weird little monster was very interesting. Actually, Kwist was pretty interesting too, but Prism felt intimidated by her. At least the little Wyrmling was super harmless and cute. It couldn’t hurt anyone, really. At least she didn’t think it could.
“I’m glad,” Silver said. They smiled at Prism and the way she looked at the Wyrmling. She was a gentle soul, they could tell. Not every creature they raised was as curious or sweet. Especially not the predators. They thought that the two of them could be really good friends, and they sincerely hoped they were right about that.

“What do you think? Do you want to learn more about the flowers?” Silver said after a bit.
Prism nodded, so they led her back to a flower in need of some care. They pointed to a dead leaf, barely hanging off the stem. “This leaf, ah, you see, it’s not healthy. So we have to take it off, like this,” they demonstrated pulling the leaf off cleanly with their thumb claw.
“Oh…” Prism said, watching the dead leaf fall to the ground after it was plucked.
“This part isn’t healthy, but the plant is still trying to take care of it. So by removing it, we’ve made the plant more healthy. It can use all of its nutrients to grow the good parts, instead…”
“It’s alright,” they continued, feeling that Prism might be disappointed still. “The plant isn’t hurt, plants don’t get hurt the same way we do.”

Silver wasn’t really sure they had given a good lesson on plant pruning, but they wanted to skip forward to the next part anyway. They pulled out some enriched water they had purchased from Alura and held them out for Prism to see.
“Ah, well, this is special water, for making the plants grow strong. You just need a little… sprinkle…” Silver said. They demonstrated by gently dripping the special liquid over the flower. It hit the ground and immediately disappeared into the thirsty soil.
“Now you won’t see the difference right away, that’s part of the beauty of gardening, you know, that it takes time and patience.”
Prism, as young as she was, didn’t have a lot of either. She simply hadn’t lived long enough to learn the virtue of patience. She wanted to see something happen! This whole gardening business was kind of boring, actually. Well, it would be, if she didn’t have her new Wyrmling friend to hang out with. Not that Silver was so bad, either.

Silver knew that kittens weren’t well known for their ability to pay attention to long lectures, so they moved on to the next point. Perhaps they could find something she thought was really interesting. Would she take well to being involved in some way? That sounded like a good idea, so Silver thought up something on the fly.
“Prism, do you want to help? Could you find another flower that looks like this one, with pink petals and long leaves? I want to know where they all are,” Silver said with a nod.
Now the task itself didn’t really matter. It was just the first thing they had thought of. They did genuinely want to get Prism involved, though, so it wasn’t a total fabrication. They didn’t really like to lie to their creatures, especially not the telepathic ones. Silver shook their head a little to convince themselves not to worry.

Sometimes they got worked up about something that didn’t really matter, and this was one of those times. It wasn’t deceitful to ask Prism to help them, even if they didn’t really need the help. They were being silly again.
Thankfully, Prism took her task very seriously. She immediately started to look for flowers with pink petals, sniffing around at each new flower as she passed by. Her sense of smell was quite sensitive, and though Silver had asked her about the color of the flowers, she was also interested in how they smelled as a way to differentiate them.
Eventually, she found one she liked the look of. Pink petals and long leaves, just as they had asked. She brushed it gently with her paws, then sat down in front of it, waiting for Silver to come by and check her work.
Silver hadn’t been watching that closely, as they had turned their head to look for Quin. He had been awfully quiet lately, and that made them wonder what he was up to. Soon enough they found him taking a nap on a tree right above Kwist. Apparently he liked her suggestion and was happy to follow suit. Well that was a relief.

“Ah? Oh, good one,” Silver said when they finally noticed Prism sitting quietly in front of a pink flower.
“I really want to encourage these ones to grow up nice for the next season, so we’ll just pull this weed…” they yanked the small weed effortlessly out of the ground and tossed it aside, “and give it a little spritz of the enriched water… there! Perfect. Thanks for your help, Prism.”
Prism yawned loudly and stretched out next to the flower. It wasn’t that she wasn’t interested, really. She was just sleepy. The warmth of the sun where it trickled through the trees was just perfect on her fur. She tucked her paws in and started to doze off.
“Well I guess it is a good day for a nap,” Silver said very quietly, so as not to disturb any of the creatures that had recently fallen asleep. It would be hard to do any real work while everyone was having a nice afternoon nap.

They supposed that they would just have to take a break for a bit. Who knows? It could actually be good for them, too.
Silver stretched out onto the grass, careful not to crush anything important, and stared up into the clear blue sky. Now and then, the breeze pushed some leaves around, and they watched one dance before floating silently to the ground. This truly was their safe place, somewhere that they could leave the worries of everyday life behind. Is that why they were so eager to bring their friends here to experience it?
They hadn’t intended to, but Silver began to doze off, their body sinking into the grass. The smell of fresh soil and greenery was the last thing they remembered before waking up again some time later. Prism and Quin had both made their way over to rest next to them. They could wait there for just a few more minutes, perhaps...
