The mammalian and his pet (thought mostly his pet) drew the gaze of curious passerbys, seeming to wonder what that little thing was and why were the two of them just there on the path like that. With increasing alarm to the attention they were receiving, the golem began clattering its segmented shell toward those who seemed to wander too close as a warning to stay away. Xentus sighed. Astraea just needed time, he hoped. He hushed it more firmly, quieting her clattering until it stopped. What almost sounded like a dejected chime resonated in his mind through their ribbon-link.
[Astraea, everything is fine. This one assures it], he told it, [Let us proceed a little more.] The golem had no reason not to trust the man's words, though overcoming this need to protect and defend its beloved bonded one would be difficult as it did not trust those hovering around.
{C a r e f u l l y}, the golem chimed almost reluctantly. It was not yet as confident about this plot..

The few minutes they'd spent just sitting there felt both too long and too short all at once. But as the leopard decided it was time to press forward, the golem had no choice but to concede. It trotted along right beside him, still carefully observing every single person and animal that surrounded them. But most importantly, it visually combed through the denser crowd of people that they were walking toward. It wasn't sure what stood out as the most threatening.. It was difficult to fight back the urge to clatter and ward off those looking their way, but the golem refrained for the sake of its one.
Another pause in their approach was taken, the leopard crouching once again to comfort his companion. It seemed to be doing better about this, if only slightly. "You do well, Astraea. Not so scary, hm?", Xentus murmured to the creature in his best attempts to assure it.

Astraea didn't seem entirely convinced, but was putting up a good front. This would soon be put to the test. A curious onlooker decided to make their approach to the leopard and the strange little golem, a friendly smile on their face. Xentus returned the smile and waved at them.
[We have a guest, Astraea, this one invites them. Be calm and relax dear], the leopard mentally told the glass walker. Having people come up to them was something the leopard thought might happen sometimes, given the novelty of the golem. It would need to respond well to such an occurrence. Astraea, despite the warning, was still on the wary side about this stranger coming up to them, but tried its best to ignore the potential danger and be calm as requested.
Xentus was greeted with a couple of questions about the glass golem. What it was, its name, where its face was.. All questions the leopard was happy enough to answer. But next came, 'Can I touch it?'..

The leopard's brow furrowed for a moment, conflicted with this request. Astraea might not appreciate such an unwelcomed gesture.. But if he showed that it was safe, with no impending harm, well he perhaps could convince it. Xentus hatched a plan.
[Astraea, watch now. This one invites our guest for this], the leopard warned the golem, then offered his hand forward to the stranger to shake. The creature was alarmed at first, but at seeing its bonded one smiling happily.. It calmed down and relaxed. [Now our guest will do the same for you, Astraea. Be courteous, yes?]
The golem offered no reply to the man, instead focusing on the strange person in their midst. This would be.. Some kind of mutual touch? It only cared for the touch of its bonded one, but if he insisted that it do so, it would. The creature steadied itself on two limbs, then slowly extended the third toward the stranger. Its limb was grabbed and moved and and down a bit, then released. A gesture that.. Was strange at best.

Still, Astraea succeeded in something right, it seemed. The leopard gave the golem praise, petting the top of its head in both a rewarding and reassuring manner. His attention and words were again directed toward the stranger, who then wandered off shortly after. They had survived this encounter unscathed. And the leopard seemed happier for it. Astraea let this sink in, seeming to take time to mull on the concept of stranger danger. Not all of them were dangerous or threatening, it concluded. Though it still felt to be wary still of those who were. The alarm chime that it passed to the leopard had petered out at some point, leaving nothing but clarity in their link once again.
"Xentus is proud, Astraea", the leopard murmured gently to the golem, "Now then, let us continue on a little further." There was still the grand crowd to face, but it felt like they could approach it without much further hesitation.

The young glass golem was still adamant about keeping pace directly by the leopard's side as they walked onward. But even so, the man could tell that there seemed to be some kind of newfound relief stemming from the it. Its posture was more relaxed, no longer insistently scanning the strangers around them. Though it did seem a bit wary when someone happened to pass by too close, the golem refrained from giving them a warning rattle. The large and ravenous crowd that they faced was no more than a handful of scattered people enjoying their food-stall snacks, and sooner than the golem realized, it and the leopard were in the midst of it. It watched as the leopard happily ordered himself a kebab, exchanging with the stranger offering them without any regard for safety. Astraea didn't feel so carefree, but it would make up for any lapse in guard that the leopard had, should he need it. But they went without the need. Gone from the crowd and enjoying his meal, the leopard praised the golem for its patience and efforts. A long day of lessons ended smoothly.

> Xentus, accompanied by... Not long after they'd arrived earlier did the large lump of scales and fur accompanying him find itself a comfortable basking spot in the sun to fall asleep. How it managed to sleep so much was beyond him. Ah well. This was fine by the leopard, it allowed him the time to prepare and parse out the lessons he had in mind to teach it for the upcoming tournament. After his previous success with Mira, well.. He couldn't help but to be tempted to try again. The wiurn was the only creature of his that was suited for the wintry themed tourney, and since he'd been meaning to work with the furred wyvern for quite some time, this made for the perfect excuse.
"Alerios", the leopard gently called, "Hey. Alerios." Unfortunately, his calls were lost upon the sleeping beast. It was at times like this that he figured a name like 'sleepy head' might suit the beast better..

The man hummed, thinking briefly as to what might spur the creature back to the lucid realm. Treats, perhaps? He did have a fresh goodie bag of meaty morsels that no dragon could ignore. And if that failed, there were bigger, back up meaty chunks of thundergug flank that he could use. The leopard wafted the iron-rich scent of the treats before the wiurn's nostrils, hoping to rouse it.
"Alerios.. Alerios!", he called, tapping on the hard face-plate of the creature. Its eyes rolled under their closed lids, nostrils flaring at the tantalizing scent. It took a moment, but the wiurn finally (and groggily) opened its eyes, seeming confused as to what was going on. A forked tongue flicked out, lightly lapping the treat held out in front of its snout.
"That's it, Alerios. Good boy, Alerios", the leopard cooed gently, letting the beast pry the morsel away from his hand.

The small portion was barely enough to whet the lizard's appetite, but it was awake. Somewhat. The beast's eyes remained half closed, threatening to return to the world of dreams should the leopard not do anything to prevent it.
"Hey now, don't fall back asleep Alerios", the leopard scolded, tapping on the hard blue faceplate, "Look here." Another treat was held out so the wiurn could see. It was.. Vaguely interested in food. But so much more interested in closing its eyes and basking in this wonderful late-autumn sun. The incessant tapping wasn't going to let that happen, though. A perturbed grunt escaped the lizard's throat as it motioned its head away from the annoyance. But, the leopard was persistent.
"Alerios!", the man called, now assaulting that fluffy blue mane. The fur was thick and plush, and surprisingly soft for being on a giant scaly beast. And an easy target to be a pain in the neck for the wiurn.

A long, audible exhale escaped the wiurn. It wasn't going to be getting any more sleep it seemed. It craned its head around to peer at the man briefly, then began uncoiling its body to stretch out. Xentus got a good look at the many pointed teeth within the wiurn's mouth as it yawned, as well as a good blast of frigid, rank wiurn breath to the face. That was a smell that nobody should say that they were getting used to, but given the number a large, winged lizards in his personal menagerie, well. He was somewhat used to it.
"Thata boy, Alerios", the leopard said, encouraging the beast, "You awake now? Alerios!" The wiurn continued with its wakeup routine, proceeding to stretch out and vigorously shake its neck to align its mane. Then, groggily looked at the mammalian, contempt in its eyes for all that shouting. The treat soon offered forth as a reward was enough for the creature to begin to forgive him, however.

The meaty treat soon disappeared down the wiurn's throat, leaving the beast licking its lip-line with that long, forked tongue. It didn't seem exactly eager for more, but the leopard had its attention. Alerios was probably the only wiurn in his care that wasn't so keenly food motivated. It was more.. Sleep motivated. And it seemed to already have the idea that it if played along with whatever he was trying to do here, it would get back to sleep much sooner.
Xentus allowed the winged beast some time to adjust to the world of the waking, waiting until it was in the middle of raking its fur with its teeth before disturbing it again. "Alerios!", the man called, hoping to garner its attention. It let out a gentle snort before craning its neck in the direction of the leopard's voice, seeming annoyed now that it couldn't even preen without being disturbed..

The man offered the beast a toothy smile for praise, pleased with how responsive it was. After working with the golems so much, that would normally suffice for a reward. Alerios grumbled, staring hard at the man for a moment longer, then returned to preening. Not exactly the response the leopard was hoping for, but it was good enough! Xentus turned his attention away from the wiurn and began to set up his little training ring. He had all the supplies he thought he'd need. A new training dummy, leather gloves, a hood, a metal collar and chain to cart the beast around.. And treats of course. Even though he had the feeling the wiurn had minimal interest in food. He also had a specially designed ribbon for the beast, colored after its wing pattern. Xentus.. Had mixed feelings about the magic ribbons. They were incredibly useful, yet invasive and unnatural..

They made communication much easier, but he more often decided to simply speak to his animals than to mentally prompt them. Ah. He'd get over this weird stigma he felt eventually. If he was aiming to make full use of whatever powers the wiurn had churning within, he did need to be able to have clear communication with it. He made up his mind. The white and blue ribbon was fetched from the deep recesses of his backpack. A length of it was torn for himself, which he quickly fashioned into an adjustable wristband. The remainder would be tied on the wiurn's face plate 'horns'. The man looked the beast up and down, trying to figure how to best adorn it with his gift.. This probably would've been easier to do when the reptile was still asleep. But that would've required proper forethought on the leopard's part, which he didn't always have.

Alerios was mild tempered enough that he didn't fear approaching or touching the beast, though. The.. Special made wiurns of his collection were all relatively mild mannered, save for perhaps Nazura. But even the flaming one allowed him to touch its scales without much fuss. Xentus eyed the creature's headplate, then made his move. Alerios was in the midst of preening still, raking out tangles in his fur with his teeth with a bit of frustration on his eyes.
"How about an exchange, Alerios?", the leopard started as he walked up, "This one fashions a little accessory upon your face shield, and then untangles some of those knots. Sound fair?" Though the meaning of his words were lost upon the giant, scaly beast, it stared at the man with interest. Its slitted eyes glanced between his face and the ribbon he held out, seeming to try to piece together what he was aiming to do.

Xentus reached out with his free hand to pet the wiurn's nose, which he was allowed to do, thankfully. The creature let out a gentle snort, forked tongue flicking and tickling the man's wrist in the process. The petting hand then reached upward, along the hard faceplate down to the side where one of the prongs forked off.
"That's it.. Easy now, Alerios", the leopard muttered, carefully reaching with his other hand to tie the ribbon on. The wiurn's eyes met his own, locking in a calm staring contest. Of all the wiurns in his keep, Alerios seemed to have the most unnerving stare on its face.. As if it were peering straight to the soul. The notion was probably a little too deep for a creature as a wiurn, but he couldn't help but to feel that animals could see more than what it seemed. Intellect played no factor in the matter.
