It was a quick process to tie the ribbon on. Wrapped one.. Twice.. And again for safe measure, then tied snugly. The link was established. Xentus could already hear a quiet mix of passive thoughts radiating from the wiurn. He could pick up on its curiosity, wondering what he was doing. What he had done. Why it felt something strange on its head. Xentus decided to quietly listen in on the thoughts, not wanting to disturb them just yet. A sly smile rested on his muzzle as he sauntered off to fetch a brush and comb from his pack. Alerios watched the man walk away for a moment, then returned to its preening. General thoughts expressing discomfort at the knots in its fur were passively transmitted to the leopard. With fur so lush and thick, it was bound to get matted. Especially considering how often the wiurn was asleep, laying on and messing up its wonderful mane.

Some of the blame did rest on the leopard, yes. He didn't come to brush the creature as often as he should've, and Xio was often too busy to groom many of the animals. If the creature was better trained, he'd take it to some groomer.. Though he didn't know of many groomers who would be willing to work on a giant, winter-imbued, and winged lizard. It was a lot of work, aside from the fur aspect. The scales needed oiling, the leathery skin of the wings also needed lotion or oil, the claws needed trimming.. All while avoiding the creature's strong bite or more dangerous, venomous tail-blade. In Alerios's case, there was no venom to worry about, at least. Just the stringing cold of ice. The freezing touch the beast could impart was nothing to trifle with. Xentus shuttered at the thought of being on the receiving end of the frost-wiurn's power..

He'd only seen what it could do against the other wiurns when things got too rowdy between them. Nazura was usually a main perpetrator in any scuffle - always over food. The flaming one had to be the first one in line for his meal, and only accepted the biggest, bloodiest hunk offered. Any of the other lizards wanting the same piece would have the fiery cold balefire breathed their way. Alerios once made the choice to scuffle with the flaming lizard, easily defeated by the searing heat. But, not without putting up a fight of flurry and cold. Unfortunately, such effects were lost upon Nazura's fiery hot scales. Still, it was good insight on what kind of powers the frost-wiurn had. The ability to freeze with touch. Icy cold breath.. It was the spirit of winter, embodied within a fur coated lizard. An impressive beast, to say the least. And certainly among the leopard's favorites of his collection.

Xentus soon returned to the wiurn's side, brush and comb in hand. As well as a hood, should it happen to be frightened by the mental voice of his. The leopard greeted the lizard gently, touching the hard faceplate when its bulking head was craned over within reach.
"Let's put this on.. Hold still, Alerios", the leopard muttered as he lifted up the hood. The wiurn gave it a sniff, then allowed the man to place it over its head. Darkness blinded the wiurn, but there was a certain calmness that washed over it. Xentus heard passive thoughts of 'night time' and 'dark' stream through his mind, the internal voice of the wiurn sounded calmed and almost comforted. Pleased with this, the leopard moved on to begin grooming the creature. While normally he'd let this turn into some kind of tolerance training, he did want to keep this grooming session brief.

Just comb through the knots, brush over where he could reach, then move on. Xentus did his best to keep this in mind, but there was something cathartic about brushing over the plush fur of the beast. It was so thick, dense, and nice.. He could also just opt to turn this training day into brushy brushy of big fuzzy lizard. Ah, but while tempting, there was limited time before registration ended for the winter tournament. Time wasted now would be a large detriment to their performance later. Xentus stayed on task, for now..
[Good boy, Alerios], he thought to the beast, pressing his thoughts to the wiurn's mind. He felt its body tense up beneath the comb as he raked through its mane. Hints of confusion washed through the beast's mind, prompting the leopard to continue, [That's it, no need to be alarmed.] There was no panic, no fear. Just confusion at this familiar voice spoken into its thoughts.

[This one is almost finished. Alerios will feel so much better, most certainly.], the leopard thought with an affirmative tone, [Good boy, stay still..]
{Where is..?}, the first actual response came from the wiurn, confusion thick in its mental voice. It would be looking around right now if it could, but the hood was fastened on securely. Xentus reached over to the creature's head and rubbed its jowls, assuring it of his presence.
[Right here. Xentus speaks with you now, he hears you too, Alerios], the man explained. It was a simple concept, he hoped. A rumble sounded from the wiurn's throat as it seemed to consider what was going on exactly. It.. Trusted the man and his words, even the ones spoken plainly within its mind. The tension under its fur settled. The wiurn shuffled its wings and started to lay its head down to rest. But the firm touch of the leopard prevented that.

[Ah, now is not the time to rest, Alerios], the leopard firmly warned, [There is much work to be done today.] A slight grunt escaped the wiurn, but it conceded. The first thing on the list to do was to have the wiurn use that armor-plated head. While anything with a head could then use it as a weapon, there weren't many creatures with a built-in battering ram. The solid, keratinized headpiece of wiurns were used to combat rivals; opposing reptiles shoving their heads against one another until someone gave up. For today, Alerios would be faced against the training dummy rather than another wiurn. The hood was removed from his head and set aside, then using one of the prongs on the creature's headpiece as a halter, Xentus lead the hulking beast before the dummy. Alerios quietly protested, but moved as guided. Then, its head was pressed forward against the dummy's chest. "Bash", the leopard firmly commanded. The giant lizard responded with a snort and a head-toss, freeing itself from the man's control after that strange motion.

{Don't like..}, the quiet murmur came from the fluffy wyvern, eyes staring solemnly at the mammalian. Alerios shuffled its wings and stepped shyly away from the dummy. Getting the more quiet, reserved wiurn to act more aggressively would prove challenging. Xentus hummed, a frown curling his muzzle as he thought about how to solve this problem. The easiest way to spur the lizard on would to make it act out of self defense. Having another wiurn here to spar with would be the ideal case for training, but he didn't want any participant of his lessons to actually get hurt. Perhaps if the dummy was more wiurn shaped? Now that he thought about it, wasn't it odd that he was training the wyvern on a human-shaped dummy anyway? With a quick bout of handiwork, the mammalian placed the wiurn hood atop the dummy's head, then looked at Alerios. Time to try this again.

The white wiurn seemed a little less apprehensive, though wasn't exactly sold on this idea. Its eyes flicked between the man and the dummy. Musing on it again, having the dummy move a bit might help too. Xentus walked over to it and lifted the padded training tool from its stand. A growl bubbled from his throat as he stepped toward the wiurn, hoping to spur it to react. Though Xentus couldn't see it very well, the creature tensed up, wary of this suddenly animate new adversary.
[Face it, Alerios], the man urged through their mental link, [Bash.] The wyvern was filled with a mix of apprehension and nervousness, but being spurred on by the words in its head, it meekly stepped forward and met the dummy's hood with its own face plate. While not force was exerted, the large creature had an enormous amount of strength, easily pushing the mammalian backward.

Xentus nearly fumbled over his own (and the dummy's) feet, but managed to stay upright. "Good bash, Alerios!", he called as he placed the dummy down for a moment, "Just like that, keep it up, yes?" The man's verbal praise was reluctantly accepted by the wiurn at first. The added presence of a treat was a nice bonus, though. Uncertainty still floated in the wiurn's mind, now mostly uncertain of what it was doing and why. But if it got treats, then it was worth something to go along with this, it supposed. Xentus gave the wiurn a moment to snack, stepping away to set the dummy on the stand again. Hopefully that little act helped to set the inanimate thing as an opponent in the wiurn's mind. The leopard returned to Alerios's side and urged him forward to attack the dummy again, leading the creature using one of its head-plate prongs.

Alerios was less perturbed by this action this time, letting itself be led forward for the first couple of steps, then thrust a little more strongly than the man anticipated. The powerful creature (though still not exerting most of its strength) sent the dummy tumbling backward, a distinct thud sounding both on initial impact and against the ground. Xentus was quick to move out of the way once the wiurn seemed to take charge. He wasn't going to let himself get steamrolled by the giant lizard's bulk.
"Well done, Alerios! Good Bash!", the leopard praised with glee. The wiurn shrugged off the colleterial force of the impact with a headtoss, looking much more elegant with its long, flowing fur following its movements. And it soon found another little treat offered in front of its snout, which it gladly accepted. There was still some uncertainty floating about its thoughts, but being spurred on by nice words and treats slowly quieted them.

Another minute break was in order so that the mammalian could reset the dummy. It lost its wiurn-hood under the force of the impact. Thankfully, it was otherwise still intact. It hadn't really been used much before now, aside from being knocked around by Mira's wing buffs. The wear on the leathery surface was minimal, though some scuffs were starting to show. With hope, it would be able to take a beating from Alerios and survive just fine. With the dummy reset and hood re-mounted, their training was ready to start again. Xentus stood back and called to the wiurn to garner its attention. Alerios perked up from his preening, lazily shifting its gaze at the man.
[Do it again; bash!], the leopard mentally commanded, pointing a finger to the threatening dummy. Spurred on by the man's words, the wyvern moved to action, a snort escaping the beast as it rushed forward to attack the dummy with its hardened face-plate.

A crack sounded at the moment of impact. The dummy was flung off its stand with the amount of force exerted by the wiurn's empowered headbutt, landing on the ground with a solid thud. Alerios shook its head and neck, shaking off the recoil. The reptile's gaze then waved over toward the leopard, seeming hopeful for his approval. And his approval it received.
"Excellent, Alerios! Good bash, yes!", the man chimed, excitement in his eyes. Working with the wiurn was a whole different experience compared to the mosca. There was so much power within the dragon-kin creature; seeing it in action was exhilarating. Even with something as simple as having it ram its face into a training dummy. Ah, now just to imagine its elemental prowess.. Xentus shook his head, trying not to get ahead of himself. While Alerios did well with this exercise, it could probably put more gusto into its attack. They would try again.

The leopard went over to reset the training dummy. Its hood stayed on this time, saving him from the little bit of trouble affixing it again. It was propped up on the stand once more, looking as menacing as a training dummy could. Satisfied, the mammalian stood back a safe distance away before commanding the wiurn once again.
[Bash it, Alerios! Harder!], he urged mentally, pointing toward the dummy with malice. The wyvern breathed in deeply, then charged forward with its head aimed squarely at the dummy. A resounding crack pierced the air as the creature made contact and the doll went tumbling away. Alerios snorted, tossing his head to shake off the recoil again, then looked at the leopard to see if it had done well.
[Perfect], the leopard chimed through their link, pleased with the outcome. He definitely wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of such power. Thankfully, Alerios liked him well enough to offer a head nudge rather than a headbutt.

"Let us take a small break then, yes?", the leopard decided aloud, reaching to give the wiurn a pet on its headplate. It stared hard at the man, seeming to try to discern what he was saying.. A gentle snort escaped the beast, leaning into his rewarding touch. Whatever it was he said, it seemed to be a good thing. Which was nice, because it was feeling a little worn from all that work. A nap sounded great.. The wiurn yawned, exhaling its cold, putrid breath upon the mammalian, before turning away to bask in the sunlight. Xentus could hear murmurs of its mind, how it enjoyed the warmth of the sun on its scales and fur. As much as he didn't want to let the wyvern sleep again, he gave in. A bit more than a small break, then they would return to their lessons. There was much to do.
