So, why couldn't a wiurn use them too? Of course, he didn't need to worry about fragility. Mira's greatest strength was speed. Alerios's would likely be his.. Well, strength. The fluffy fur did make for a good barrier against attacks as well. Perhaps not a perfect one, but the beast could likely tank a hit should the need arrive. While it would be ideal to go completely unscathed.. He was sure this wouldn't happen. Or if it could happen, it would take quite some effort to achieve. Would they be able to do so in time? That.. Was a good question. The mammalian man sighed and considered some additional lessons to teach. To perhaps be thieving? The wiurn could pluck items from an opponent. Or to use its heft and pounce upon a target. It would be a little awkward, but he could imagine it working. The leopard made the resolve to do what he could.

Looking at the now-sleeping lump, he couldn't quite bring himself to disturb its slumber again. A sigh escaped the man and he slid off his perch. Alerios deserved some rest. Even if all the beast wanted to do was rest. While it was asleep, he'd take the chance to brush that lush blue mane. And perhaps oil those wings and scales. What was more relaxing than being groomed? Being a.. Genetically modified specimen, the wiurn didn't exactly have the ability to care for its mane properly. Lizard tongues failed at licking for anything more than tasting the air. So a bit of brushing would do the creature well to untangle some knots and prevent matting. The leopard got to work with a bristly brush, combing through the fluffiest part of the mane at the nape. The long strands of deep blue fur were lightly tangled, but nothing he couldn't fix. And there was some shedding to take care of.

Xentus mused for a moment, considering how he might be able to spin the fur into yarn.. It was on the coarser side of fur quality. Certainly not as nice as fine murp wool. But he'd heard of some places that took animal fur and spun it into yarn for scarves and other knitted things. What if.. The next thought put an amused, yet confused expression on his face. What if he spun his own fur into yarn? The man paused for a moment and ran the bristly brush across his arm. His fur was so short and thin that he'd never considered more fur grooming than the occasional brushing of his cheek fluff. And his tail. A chuckle escaped the man as he swatted the idea away. While amusing, it was a strange idea to make say, a scarf out of himself. A wiurn-fur scarf though? That was something he was much more interested in. The deep blue hue to the reptile was beautiful.

The beast stirred slightly in its sleep as the man continued to brush and groom. Eventually, a small pile of fluff amassed beside him. There was much more loose shed than he thought there might be. Considering how large the wiurn was and how much fur it had on its body, he somehow felt he shouldn't be surprised.. But there was almost enough fur to make a mini wiurn! The fluffy pile of fuzz was steadily growing as the leopard worked his way down the beast's back. He was hardly half-way finished and was exhausted by the repetitive motion of brushing. The parts where he had brushed were looking so much nicer now though, with the natural shine showing through now that the loose stuff was gone. Even without a bath or shampoo or the likes, the beast had a fantastic head of fur. He was proud of that much alone!

The scales were on the neglected side, being a little dingy and lackluster and dirty. That white base made any filth and muck stand out a lot more. It was nothing a little water wouldn't handle, but the leopard wasn't quite in the mood to give the beast a full on bath at the moment. A bit of dirt didn't hurt anyway. The most he was feeling up to doing was giving those wings some oil and finishing up on the tail brushing. Thankfully, that much was coming to a close - the furred mane taped off at the tail tip (rather than get even fluffier like a certain somebody..). While the leopard was brushing down the tail, he took a moment to examine the bladed tip. Alerios lacked the poison that the rest of his kind did as a trade-off for his attunement to the cold. Still, it was sharp and could do some damage if used as a weapon.

While it was a good idea, it would've been an even better one if the beast was still venomous. And so, it wasn't added to the training plan. Xentus finished up on the tail then gathered the loose fur collection into one pile. The mass was great and fluffy! And as much as he would've liked to smother himself in it, he refrained from doing so else he would've needed to collect it all off his own body. And somehow, the idea of being covered in second-hand fur was repulsive.. He had plenty of his own. The pile was left to get blown away by the wind or plucked by birds for their nests. While it a little strange to not put it in the trash, it was a 'natural' material. It would degrade or get used or something. He wasn't sure what happened to fur, really. All that he cared was that it returned to the earth.

Next up was oiling up those massive wings. The leathery skin between the digits was prone to cracking if not cared for properly. Xentus did well to brush them down first to remove loose dirt, then got to work massaging in the oil. Alerios seemed to enjoy this in particular - even in its slumber. If the beast could purr, it would've. For Xentus, it was an odd activity, but fun in its own way. He traced over the line patterns with his fingers, intrigued by the texture of the leathery skin. It wasn't soft, but very pliable. If he looked closely, he could see the veins which coursed throughout the membrane. A curious thought hit the man; how did wiurns stay warm in flight? Perhaps their body temperature didn't need to be maintained at such a high level. Alerios, being imbued with cold, didn't mind being cold. Plus that fluffy mane retained warmth very well.

Xentus curiously moved and flexed the wing-digits for his own amusement while applying the oil. They were so flexible. It was fascinating to be able to study a creature first hand like this. Alerios slept soundly even with all the touching, but he was sure the beast wouldn't have minded this if were awake either. The wing-arm was lifted up so he could reach the ventral side. The dead weight was surprisingly a lot more than he was expecting, and the whole limb curled up around him like a fleshy umbrella. It was a lot harder to oil up this side of the wing, and he considered trying to wake the beast so it would hold its wing for him.. Ah, a little disturbance wouldn't bother the wiurn so much. Alerios would just drift right back to sleep anyway. The leopard curled his tail around to lightly tap the wiurn's face while he prodded it in thought.

[Alé.. Wake up for just a moment, Alé], he thought to the creature. He could make out his disturbance in its dream - a particularly incessant wind blowing a leafy frond in the wiurn's face. While the mental imagery amused him, it seemed the creature was stubbornly staying asleep. His tail continued to dust over the creature's face - mostly because it amused the man. A mischievous chuckle escaped him. He was almost forgetting that he wanted to keep oiling the beast's wing. Then, suddenly, the beast loosed a great, frosted sneeze that rattled its whole body. And rattled the leopard in turn. Xentus spooked, fur standing on end as he jumped into the air. And the keeper spooking in turn caused the wiurn to immediately rouse to attention. Its blue eyes scanned the area for any threat or cause for disturbance, but the laughter from the man drew his attention instead.

The bellowing sneeze of a wiurn was frightening to behold while literally within the serpent's coil. But the brief terror turned into amusement. Xentus fell onto the wiurn's chest in laughter. He.. Should've expected that much to happen. Ah, and yet he was still caught off guard. The beast nudged his cheek, confused still. But if there was no danger here.. It would relax and enjoy its keeper's amusement secondhand. Alerios settled and put its head down, rumbling with content. [Ah, wait, wait. Hold your wing up], the man asked once his laughter subsided. The beast didn't even bother asking why or looking at its keeper questioningly. Its wing lazily lifted, stretching to provide the man with shade. The light shining through the stretched membrane illuminated it with a faint red glow. Xentus marveled at it for a moment, then returned to oiling the leathery membrane. While it was a little harder to rub the wing from this angle, the man did his best.

Alerios seemed to enjoy the feeling, even while awake. Instead of going back to sleep, it kept a watchful eye on the man; should he somehow get spooked like that again it would be ready to act. But for the time it took the keeper to rub down its wing, nothing seemed to interrupt or attack. Alerios gave into the massage, relaxing further. It was about to drift off into sleep again, but the leopard wanted to do the same with the other wing. A grumble escaped the beast as it shifted its weight to freely move its wing. Just as it was getting comfortable too.. "Thanks, Alé", the man murmured softly, rounding to the other side to repeat the process. Brush, oil, massage. It was admittedly tiring, but Xentus relished in the experience of physical closeness. When the work was done, the leopard sighed and settled himself against the wiurn's mane for a break.

Time uncounted passed as the mammalian dozed off, huddled beside the furred wiurn. It wasn't until the beast nuzzled him that he woke, dazed and slightly confused. It took a moment for him to come to his senses. And when he did, a grumble rumbled from his throat. "Ah.. This one did not want to nap", he muttered as he stood up from his cozy resting spot, "Much left to do, little time to waste. Alright, Ale, let us get back to it, yes?" The wiurn sent a shuddering shake down its neck and along its body as it rose to its feet, refreshed and ready to go. [Alright, Alé. Let Xentus hear your voice], the man mentally prompted the beast. His request was met with some confusion at first, but the wiurn parted its jaws and let out a little grunt. Not.. Quite as impressive as he was hoping, but it was a start!

[Louder, Alerios! Deeper!], the man encouraged the wiurn, gesturing for more bravado. Being rather reserved in nature, the reptile hesitated at first. It almost looked like it was frowning at the man as it tried again, letting out a louder grunt. Unfortunately, the beast could tell this wasn't what the keeper was striving for. "Roar! Roar, Alé!", Xentus pressed, trying his best to rouse his pet into being more boisterous by being so himself. It was admittedly a little out of character for the leopard, but if he could encourage the wiurn through body, mind, and voice, he would. It shuffled nervously in front of him, then let out another low grunt - a little louder again this time. Better, but not good enough. He needed something that would strike fear into the heart of their foes! This simply wouldn't do. The man focused on strong, assertive thoughts, then attempted to lead by example.

Being a primal kind of people, Xentus had no qualms about channeling his inner-beast. The man rumbled a deep growl which rose into his best attempt at a roar. It wasn't perhaps the loudest or most intimidating (he was far out of practice for this kind of thing), but it was much better than what the wiurn was doing for him at the moment. Alerios blinked at its keeper, surprised such a noise could come from him. [Like me! Let out your voice, Alé!], the leopard encouraged, flashing a toothy grin, [A deep breath in, then let it out with force]. The wiurn lacked so much confidence, but seeing the man's example was inspiring. It took in a long breath as instructed, then let out a low bellowing call. A vast improvement from the weak grunts from before! But not enough. He wanted to feel the noise rattle his bones.

"Roar, Alerios!", the man encouraged loudly, gesturing again for fortissimo. It felt like the only way to rouse the wiurn into unleashing a good roar was to be loud and proud! To inspire and show there was no need to be shy. To share that riled up energy. Alerios could feel the man's intensity and was almost put off by the stark contrast from his usual self. But if its keeper could be that way.. So could it - right? The wiurn took in a breath then lifted its head high to let out a loud, bellowing trumpet. A vast improvement from the lame grunts just earlier. [Good, Alé!], the leopard praised mentally. "Yes! Roar!", he then called aloud, "Again, Alerios! Roar!" While the energy was up and rising, the leopard did what he could to keep it up and encourage the beast further. He needed it to call out with confidence and vigor!
