Fiera was somewhat resigned to the fact that Ophelia wasn’t going to listen to her, and set her things down so she could quickly herd the amphadon back over to the right side of the pool near her and not force her owner to go on ANOTHER adventure down the river. “Come on Ophelia, no.” She said, waving her arms at the amphadron in an attempt to spook her back toward the side of the pool with her fishing equipment on it… only for the amphadron to arc out of the water in a significant jump that Fiera was sure would be phrased as an insult could she speak, and flopped directly into one of the outgoing streams of water. Apparently she didn’t care if Fiera would always come back to her- she was quite happy with being able to make her own decisions on where to go, whether Fiera liked it or not.

Fiera stared at the spot where Ophelia had been for a moment, gobsmacked at the audacity of it all before promptly flipping the fuck out. “Ophelia! You get back here RIGHT NOW, young lady!” She screeched down the stream, but already the amphadron was a rapidly moving brown and green dot sliding down the pebbly streambed. Fiera let out a string of expletives as she scrambeld to reclaim her fishing equipment and get it back on her back before she lost Ophelia entirely. If anyone was watching her trying to do this, they would no doubt find it a highly amusing and slapstick endeavor that the humanish would prompty yell at them for. For Fiera however, it was no laughing matter. The threats to Ophelia were just as extant now as they had been five minutes ago, and the amphadron was hardly impervious to danger now that she had more confidence.

Finally Fiera managed to collect all of her things and smrabled over to the sharp slope that Ophelia had willfully disappeared off of. She didn’t see the amphadron anymore and a worried growl erupted from within her throat. “Okay, don’t think about it… just do.” She said, and hopped down the slope. Thankfully with the help of her sturdy boots, getting down the slope was a lot faster than she thought as she just slid down over the pebbly ground. The slope was steep enough that Fiera could brace herself against the ground, allowing her to quickly slip slide down the hillside. There was a high chance of injury, sure, but that was a risk she was always willing to take. “Ophelia! You are in SO much trouble when I find you, young lady!” Fiera screeched down the hill, but heard nary a click in response. She pressed her ears back, hoping she would find where Ophelia went soon.

As Fiera slid down the hill of pebbles, she could see another, smaller pool coming up ahead. Hopefully Ophelia wouldn’t have been so dumb as to move past that one and would be there waiting for her, though she knew right now that nothing was for sure. All she could do was hold her breath, hope, and try really hard not to fall over as she slid down the hill. Finally she slid to a stop next to the pool, and picked up her things briefly to get them to stop moving as well. “Ophelia!” Fiera called, her eyes carefully scanning the pool. She thought the worst until she finally saw a small ripple from one side of it and saw a pair of glimmering eyes glaring back at her, with a green ‘doodle’ shape above them. Fiera sighed with relief- she had found her pet. Again.

This was the second time today obviously, and Fiera decided that she wasn’t about to let her amphadron “run off” (so to speak) again. As Ophelia explored the pool, Fiera grabbed some things from the forest around them that the amphadron couldn’t see from her perspective in the water. The humanish picked up several branches from the surrounding woods and looked for the next outgoing stream. She had the feeling that Ophelia wouldn’t willingly swim back up the stream (it would be quite a steep swim, after all.), so if she was going to escape again, it would be downhill from here. After a moment of searching, the humanish found the outgoing rivulet from this pool and got to work on blocking it off, doing her best beaver impression in making a dam. After a few minutes of work, she stood back and admired her messy little creation.

The cracks between the branches let the water flow through, so there was no chance of the pond overflowing and giving Ophelia a wider surface area to escape from. However, all of the cracks were too small for the amphadron to possibly fit through, so Fiera wouldn’t have to worry about the little creature managing to wriggle through. Combining the dam with the steep cliff, Ophelia was pretty much forced to spend time with her owner instead of trying to run away… or swim, as it were. Fiera glanced over her shoulder smugly at Ophelia after admiring her work, but it looked like the amphadron wasn’t paying any attention at all, the jerk. Fiera rolled her eyes and walked over to where she left her fishing equipment. If Ophelia wasn’t paying attention now, she would likely notice soon enough. For now, Fiera could get back to fishing.

Despite how long their trip was dragging on for, Fiera hadn’t actually gotten to do any fishing yet to her displeasure. With any luck though, now would be a good time to rectify that. At least until her amphadron made her next escape attempt. She doubted this pool had TOO many fish in it due to how far it was from the main spit of the river and with the nature of this slope forcing most fish further downstream instead of remaining here, but she would try to make the most of it. If she spent most of her time trying to find the perfect fishing spot instead of working on fishing the spots she had, Fiera would never catch anything. So while Ophelia explored Fiera started getting her various pieces of fishing gear out again, making sure to keep a careful, watchful eye on her pet this time around.

Halfway through her unpacking, Ophelia did seem to notice the dam this time around. Fiera paused as the amphadron nudged her head against it (not that she had many other body parts to investigate with) and gave it a few test bites with her mandibles. Despite the amphibian’s best efforts however, the dam remained solid and impassable, allowing water through but having no gaps big enough for the amphadron to shove her chubby baby body through. Fiera nodded with satisfaction as Ophelia swam off grumpily, knowing that she was well dissuaded by now… or at least forced to come up with some other plan to escape this pool. Hopefully that would take long enough for Fiera to be able to get some fishing done first however. She had nearly finished assembling her fishing rod, and looked proudly upon its length. This baby had caught her many a good fish, and hopefully today would be no different.

Fiera was finally ready to fish as Ophelia swam angrily in circles on the side of the pond to her right, clearly upset about not being able to get through the dam. Fiera could only shrug about it- it wasn’t her fault if the amphadron couldn’t… well, it WAS her fault. She was the one who set up the dam after all. But she wasn’t about to let her pet escape again- this place wasn’t exactly the safest area imaginable for a critter her size to wander without supervision, that was for sure. So she could sit there and grump about it, but Fiera wasn’t letting her out of her sight. She kept giving the amphadron little side glances as she pierced some bait onto her hook before tying it to the fishing pole. There. Now that was a pole worthy of the river bend. Now all she needed was to catch something with it.

That was easier said than done, of course. This pool looked fairly deep, but its inbound streams were so shallow and the main part of the river was so far away that she doubted many fish managed to make their way down here, let alone thrive enough to build up a stable population in this little pond. She had the feeling that she would be mostly catching river escapees like Ophelia, or would otherwise be fishing up tiny scraps that could make a life in a body of water this small. Her options weren’t great either way, but this fishing trip was already turning out to be a lot less fruitful than she thought, so in a way she accepted her fate. Without further ado then, she raised the fishing pole up and threw it forward, sending the line out far into the pond, the bobber dropping into the still water with a satisfying “plop!”

From there, all Fiera had to do was sit there and wait. That was the nice thing about fishing. Unlike mining or gardening, all one really had to do when fishing was sit around and wait for the prizes to come to you, as opposed to having to dig them up out of the ground and… well, Fiera supposed that you kind of had to do the same thing in gardening. Fancy that. From here she was free to do whatever she wanted while waiting for something to bite. She supposed that this would be a good opportunity to check on Ophelia. She looked around and found that the amphadron was no longer floating around the dam she had built up and was instead prowling around the border of the pond, clearly looking for some other way out. Or she was just exploring, but Fiera knew the amphadron well by now.

She had underestimated Ophelia before- despite her primitive appearance, she was pretty clever. However, the fact that she didn’t even have legs put a damper on the grand majority of her plans. Also, the fact that she didn’t have lungs. Fiera could practically see her frustration growing, but she would just have to learn how to accept her circumstances. That was the whole point of fishing, after all. Fiera glanced at her bobber, checking in on it. In fact, she looked just in time to see it duck under the water. Ophelia certainly didn’t notice it, pacing the border of the pond. Fiera on the other hand scrambled to her pole, grabbing it before the fish could get away with her line and bait. She yanked back hard on the pole, trying her best to properly hook the fish before it could escape. Almost immediately she felt resistance on the other end.

“Now we’re talking…” Fiera said to herself smugly as the fight began. She tried reeling in the line as fast as possible, giving the fish a bit of give every so often to try and drag the process out, but never letting it go for long. She wasn’t about to let her first bite of the day get away from her, that was for sure. She had been out here so long, she was thrilled to finally have something to funnel her energy into. The fish fought hard, she had to give it credit for that, but after a few minutes she finally felt its strength waning, its struggles relenting a bit as she pulled on the line. She was going to win, that much was clear. The only question was how long it would take. She leaned back on the line more and more, putting her whole body into her efforts.
