Then, the fish drifted back up a moment later... unmoving. Then, a little white head with big, sweet, evil red eyes popped up a moment later. "Savitri!" Fiera said, scolding her pet and marching down to the shore. "That's so mean!" She said, picking up the now deceased fish by its tail. She knew that dragonscale seryn could be aggressive, but... yeesh. "Not to mention a waste. The collector only takes these things ALIVE, you know." She said with a hiss. She leaned down towards Savitri and waggled a finger in his face. "BAD. BAD SAVITRI. You can bully me, but not animals." She said. Something about her tone this time was... different, Savitri realized. He didn't understand people language at all of course, but he knew the difference between "angry and not really" and... this. Apparently, this was something entirely out of line. Fiera sighed. "Well... maybe I can still use it as bait." She said, and hooked it onto the end of her line. She let the line, now significantly heavier, splash into the water. Savitri swam off into the gloom again, a bit deflated from before. She wondered if he felt remorse for his actions, or if he had even learned what that is yet. ...Good. She hoped he did. There was a difference between splashing her a bit and killing animals that had never done anything to him just to spite her. That was a move so mean, it felt like it came right out of her book. He didn't bother her again though, and soon Fiera was properly settled into her chair, waiting for anything to bite. She could get a book out to read while she waited... but she didn't want to risk library materials with Savitri's mischief. She was pretty sure he couldn't get her up here, but only pretty sure, and library fines were something she wanted to avoid today.

Soon enough though, she saw some fish swimming around in the shallows, making her sit up a bit more in her chair. She realized there was nothing she could do to make them approach faster from her vantage point, but she could at least keep an eye on them so she could yank on the bobber as quickly as possible should one of them bite. Then, she saw a larger white shape surge up from the depths towards them. "Savitri!" She hissed, hoping he wasn't planning on beating these ones up as well. To her surprise though, he swim around the periphery of them cleanly, causing them all to jet back towards the center of the pond... and right towards her bobber. Was he trying to bring them closer to her line? Trying to apologize, in a way? Fiera wasn't sure what to make of that, to be honest. He could still be trying to trick her.

But it could also be good natured, if... not especially helpful. After all, fish that were stressed out weren't going to try eating- they were going to be fleeing and keeping a close eye on their environment. Fiera certainly didn't like eating when she was stressed. But she couldn't expect Savitri to know that, as young as he was. He could think he was trying to help. And if that was the case then, well... Fiera wasn't about to yell at him for it, even though she wanted to catch SOMETHING today. If she managed to find a non-damaging way to play with him though, well... she supposed she could put up with that too. Still, she would probably need some extra bait at this rate to keep the fish on-task at all, what with Savitri doing his best to "help". Hopefully their hunger would win out over their hesitation.

She watched as Savitri circled the perimeter of the pool. He definitely wasn't trying to hit the fish anymore, that was for sure. His actions instead reminded her vaguely of some herding houluh she had seen driving murp across agricultural fields, keeping them from approaching areas that the herders didn't want them to go. Except in this case, it looked like he was keeping them towards the center of the pool. It was certainly effective- she didn't see anything but him in the shallows anymore- but she still wasn't getting any bites. Apparently the fish needed more encouragement to come near her. Gently, she stood up again, carefully reeling in the line as she walked back towards the side of the pool to keep the bobber from moving in the water. It worked, and soon she was at the water's edge, looking down into the deep blue water. Savitri slowed as he reached the edge of her boot.

"...You're doing good, Savitri! I'm just uh... sweetening the pot for them, so to speak." She said, giving him a wink and tossing more fish pellets into the water. He seemed to appreciate the praise, spinning in place now that he knew she wasn't mad at him anymore. Almost immediately, she saw a few of them disappear beneath the water. Good- that meant that there were SOME fish interested in eating in the water right now. Now she just needed one of them to take the hook. Slowly and carefully, she backed towards her seat again, letting out the line just as carefully as she reeled it in so it stayed in place once more. Sure enough it stayed, and Fiera settled into her chair. The trap was set- now all she had to do was show a bit of patience. Which was difficult for her most of the time, but she was sure she could manage it. Fiera 20 Savitri 3.0/6.0 15 (Using bait.)

It looked like her plan was working. Fiera had a few false starts with some little pieces of lake lettuce that she mistook for fish tugging on her line, but once she got those out of the way she was nabbing fish after fish. It looked like Savitri herding the fish was working. Soon Fiera had a whole bucket of fish, turning over each other and gaping up at her vacantly. “Nicely done, Savitri!” She said excitedly before lugging it over so the seryn could see. She tilted it down gently and he popped out of the water, peering into the bucket. “Look how many we caught! You did that!” She said. Even though Savitri couldn’t understand what she was saying, he DID peer in for a long time… before swimming back into the water, eagerly looking for more. Finally, she had found something for her pet to do that would keep him out of trouble.

He patrolled around in circles while Fiera stayed on the shore to fish, her bobber sticking out of the center of the pond. She took the risk of bringing her chair closer this time- she didn’t think she had to worry about Savitri spraying her with water anymore. He really only seemed to do that before because he was bored. This time though, they were working together to catch more fish and goodies from the pond… but it didn’t seem like there was much left in there. Savitri circled around and around, but nothing else was biting on Fiera’s lure. Eventually he popped his head up, looking at her. “Can’t find anything else?” She called over to him, and he came closer as if to confirm her suggestion. Fiera glanced in the bucket again at her bountiful catches, and then back at the pond. She supposed she should have expected that.

This was a small pool of seasonal water with only a minor inlet into the river proper, so it made sense that only a few fish at a time would be able to survive here- and not very big ones at that. “Guess it’s time to move on then!” Fiera said, standing up and packing things up. She carefully tied the hook on her fishing pole up and secured the lid to the top of her catch bucket so it wouldn’t accidentally spill. Savitri watched her carefully, “pacing” back and forth along the shore. “Don’t worry.” Fiera said as she closed her chair up, packing it back into her bag. “I’m not going to forget you here.” She winked at her pet. “You cost a lot of money, after all.” She said cheerily and finally gathered up the last of her things. She looked around, making sure she wasn’t leaving anything behind.

The area was clear- she had left it just as she had found it. “Perfect!” She said. “Let’s go find some more bountiful shores, eh Savitri?” She said. She made sure to walk along the shoreline so her pet could follow her easily, swirling his way through the shallows. Luckily, his bright white, light-reflecting scales made it trivial for Fiera to keep an eye on him. She reached the mouth of the inlet that lead into the pool area. She didn’t want to have to wrangle Savitri back into his carrier tank, but it was a tight squeeze. Hopefully he could get through it on his own. “Come on Savitri!” She said, stepping over the threshold. “You can do it!” He glanced between her and the inlet warily. Fiera knew though that even if he DID get stuck, there would be no danger- seryn could breathe air as well as water.

Heck, as far as Fiera’s research had shown, many of them could even FLY, so she hardly needed to worry about Savitri’s safety… but he didn’t seem to know that. Fiera wasn’t sure it was a good idea to give him a confidence boost considering his already prodigious ego… (It was already inflated enough that she was pretty sure he could learn to fly just from that) But they did need to keep moving. “Come on Savitri, you can do it!” She said, waving her arms in her direction. Savitri disappeared beneath the water, and Fiera thought for a moment that she’d have to get the net out and carry him as he was throwing a fit… but then the water turned foamy white as he surged through the water, finally jumping over the narrow mouth of the pool. He splashed down on the other side in the river proper, safely.

Fiera chuckled as the water splashed up towards her, holding an arm up to protect herself. "See, that wasn't so hard, now was it?" She said with a smile, and Savitri poked his head up to look at her again. Now that she had her pet, Fiera could lead the way down the riverbank. The sun was starting to set, actually. She knew that dusk was one of the best times for fishing, but she wasn't quite sure if it was a good idea to do so with such an undertrained pet. It was difficult keeping track of Savitri at the best of times- she could only imagine how difficult it would get if it was also pitch black. Granted, he did have bright white, reflective scales, like the shiny paint they used to put down the dividers on the roads winding through the city. But that wouldn't do her much good.

The river ran fast and foamy this time of year, filled with all kinds of silts and muds. Having reflective scales wouldn't do them much good if they were hidden beneath 2 feet of muddy water. Perhaps then, Fiera should start thinking about going home instead. She nodded and made a decision- she'd fish for a little while longer, but would do it while making her way towards the entry point, hopefully scooping up some more goodies on the way there... if you could count slimy, smelly water critters as "goodies". Savitri seemed none the wiser as Fiera got out her net and slipped it into the water, looking to see what she could scoop up as she made her way down the shoreline. Nothing interesting came up so far as she checked the netting, though she did offer the end of the net to her seryn so he could look too.
