A couple of fish were caught on the way out, perhaps by the net?

Fiera was back at the river bend, this time with her tat-lung, Tenmei in tow. This was only supposed to be a quick trip- she wanted to get back to training her soon. Still, she couldn't help but take a break. The baby tat-lung was doing so well in her training, and Fiera knew that overworking the poor dear would only lead to disaster, or at the very least resentment. So here they were at the river bend, ready to have some fun. Fiera was tracing her way along the river bank, and Tenmei was following after her, occasionally urged on with an order of 'come!" to get her to hurry up a bit. They weren't going anywhere in particular, but Fiera was keeping an eye out for a good spot to fish and for a place that Tenmei could sit with her without the risk of being washed downstream. After a few minutes, Fiera found a spot where the stream got very wide and very shallow, babbling over the rocks. Tenmei seemed to have a bit of trouble navigating the shallow water, but off to either side the river dropped off into deeper pools which had almost no current in comparison. Fiera figured that the fish might be driven into these pools as well. The bank next to it wasn't incredibly comfy or wide, but Fiera couldn't think of anywhere better to stop. The trees nodded overhead, their branches full and lush after the acceleration of growth from spring put them into full bloom. As a result, the air here was a comfortable temperature, and Fiera was sure that she and Tenmei would be able to sit happily with each other while enjoying the act of fishing. At the very least, the tat-lung seemed happy to be in an area without the current.

Fiera set up her chair on the shoreline, though it was a bit of an awkward fit. Tenmei rolled over in the deeper water near the shore, enjoying the lack of current and just relaxing for a bit. That was fine by Fiera, as she was still setting up. The cliff-face next to the shore was so close that Fiera had to rotate her chair a bit just to get it in there. Yeah, her casts weren't going to be elegant by any means today- if she could figure out how to cast her line at all. She tried sitting in the chair, but the ground was so bumpy and uneven that it felt like it was going to keel over and pitch her into the water at any time. Still, Fiera wasn't about to be beaten by something so simple and dumb as gravity and stuffed her bag under the chair.

She set it over the bars connecting the legs of the chair, weighing the whole structure down so it would hopefully be more hesitant to fall over. From there she focused on tying the lure to the end of the fishing line, fiddling with the transparent string as she tried to tie on the colorful rubber doodad. Tenmei came up to her in the water, looking at what she was doing. "Hey baby, how you- oh no, you don't want this." She clarified as the tat-lung looked up at her with pleading eyes. "I can GUARANTEE you do not want this." The humanish said, eyeing the variety of sharp stabby hooks on the lure she had just tied to the fishing rod. She knew that river fish were usually pretty hardy and could take it, but she didn't want to imagine what they'd do to such a sweet baby tat-lung.

It would probably be safer if she used a net to go fishing today, but that was still in her bag. No, it would be better to just try out one of the new tricks Fiera had taught her tat-lung. "Tenmei, no." She said, showing the lure to the tat-lung and pointing to it. Tenmei recoiled a bit at the order, but soon came back up to look at the lure. She gently pressed her nose against it, and fluttered back into the water as she felt the cold steel hiding behind the colorful kibble. It looked like she was properly convinced- Fiera wouldn't need to give that order again soon, with any luck. With that in mind, Fiera got herself comfy in her chair and tried to find a good angle to cast the line at. It was pretty hard as expected though- the cliff right behind her gave her no room to maneuver.

After some grumbling, she decided to just flick the rod forward and hope she got it in a good spot. The lure skidded forward, but only fell into the water a few pathetic feet away from her. Fiera sighed but left it and figured that she'd be better off just sitting with Tenmei and reading a book for a bit. She kept half an eye on the bobber as Tenmei came up beside her, sitting prettily. In the meantime, Fiera leaned over and struggled to get her book out, clinging to the cliff wall with one hand as she tried to maneuver the zipper with the other. It took a lot of effort to not tip the chair over, and even Tenmei started sidling away in the water, realizing how delicate the combination of physics keeping Fiera upright was. The humanish simply huffed and pulled at the zipper harder, trying to get at her things.

Finally the backpack came open- dumping half of the things she had on the ground, and unbalancing the chair at the same time. "No no no!" Fiera said, clinging to the wall as the chair dipped dangerously to the side. Trying hard to sidestep her lunch, Fiera pulled herself up and out of the chair. She whipped around and grabbed the chair at the last moment before it fell into the water, taking her things with it. The fishing pole flopped uselessly to the side, threatening to fall into the water itself. "Okay! Ok." Fiera said, trying to pick at least one thing to focus on. She hooked her foot around the far side of the chair, pulling it toward the cliff wall. She glanced out into the pool. Tenmei was near the higher current part of the stream by now, no doubt enjoying the sensation of the fresh water flowing past her face.

Fiera certainly wished she was enjoying herself that much. Not that she could blame the lapis tat-lung for wanting to be away from the current chaos unfolding at Fiera's feet, of course. She had no doubt that even with the water acting as a buffer, a chair landing on her would definitely hurt. She'd just have to figure out how to do this on her own. Fiera tried 'climbing' down the side of the cliff wall now that she had two hands free, until she was crouching in front of the chair, still holding it out of the water with one foot. Then she pulled her bag out of the mess of poles and hinges keeping the collapsible chair open. It was a lot less heavy but a lot more inconsistent in shape now that everything had fallen out of it, and it took Fiera a moment to tug it free.

Fiera shoved her bag behind her, fine with its status so long as it wasn't toppling into the water. Then she slowly righted the chair, and tried to press it against the cliff wall a few times before she realized that it really wasn't going to stay. "Well. I guess that's that, then." She said with a disappointed sigh, and folded it up again. She was wearing water shoes today thankfully. She'd just sit on the shoreline and dip her legs in and hope that that didn't scare the fish. Tenmei would probably like that more anyway, considering that it let her come closer to her owner than she usually came. For now though, she see the chair aside and went about picking up all of her fallen objects. She leaned the bag up against the wall and began placing them back in, such as the plastic bag carrying all her electronics.

Electronics, snacks, fishing tools... soon she had everything packed up but the foldable chair and the book that started this whole mess. For now though she left it, and dunked her feet in the water with a sigh. The cool water felt nice on her sweaty legs, and she swirled them through the pool happily. The chair was too ungainly to be packed up now- she'd carry it for a bit when they left so she could pack it up better when she had more than a foot and a half of shoreline to work with. And the book, well- she still actually wanted to read that. She picked it up, but glanced at her fishing bobber again. Huh. It looked like the current, sluggish as it was, had been slowly pulling it away from the shoreline. That was good for Fiera- all she had to do was reel it back a bit to keep it over the deepest part of the water.

At least that was one less thing she had to worry about. A bit more scootching around and Fiera found that all over her things could be safely pushed up against the cliff's edge. At least she didn't have to worry about anything falling in anymore. She could finally relax. Realizing that, Fiera took a deep breath and released. Finally, some peace and quiet. She was briefly interrupted however by a splashing noise at her feet. She glanced downward and found that Tenmei had returned now that she had gotten her things in order. "Looks like someone's a pretty fair weather friend, eh?" Fiera said, chuckling. She was just teasing of course though- she was glad that the tat-lung had stayed out from under her feet so to speak while she was working things out. She gave the little creature a pat on the head before checking on the fishing line again.

There was no response from the line yet- any fish in this area hadn't bitten down yet, that was for sure. Fiera leaned the pole up against the cliff face. If anything started tugging on the line, it would no doubt fall over, alerting her to the incoming fish. She wondered what Tenmei would think of the fish once she reeled them in- would she be spooked? Find them cute? Try to eat them? She would just have to wait and find out. Her tat-lung had been raised entirely in captivity, so she didn't know how to respond to other animals yet. Fiera had been working on socializing her, but she hadn't had a ton of opportunities to do so yet. Still, this nice day out on a quiet section of the river was a good place to start. Tenmei seemed to be enjoying herself so far, that was for sure.

As if on cue, the little blue carp came and swam over to Fiera, circling around her legs. "Hey there girl, enjoying yourself?" Fiera said sweetly, wiggling her fingers in the water so she could have a nibble on them. She figured it was a harmless habit right now, though she should probably try to break the tat-lung of it before she got too old. Right now it was cute though. The tat-lung swam away after hiding out behind her legs for a few minutes though, wanting to explore the area. Fiera looked up and down the bank- the strip of still water that Tenmei had found herself in was about two dozen feet across, and the current beyond it was rather quick. Considering how Tenmei usually liked to stay close to the surface (as that was where all of the tasty bugs fell in), Fiera figured she wouldn't lose track of her.

...Unless she kept darting into it. Fiera watched as Tenmei bounced over the rocks, dipping out of the pool and darting through the stream. "Tenmei, hey, don't do that!" Fiera called, worried. There was a good chance that she could get swept downstream doing that, especially if she got too tired to come back into the pool. She called a few more times, but Tenmei was clearly having too much fun to listen to her. Fiera groaned loudly and reached over to her things, getting ready to pack up what was left of her stuff. First things first, she started reeling in her fishing rod. She couldn't leave it here, and pulling up dozens of feet of fishing line would be... difficult. So she started reeling it in, pulling in foot after foot of line, though she felt some resistance on the end. She huffed loudly, tugging on the reel.
