Did it get caught on something? Trawl along the bottom until it hit some rocks or seaweed or something? She yanked on the fishing pole even harder, pulling back on the line as much as she could. She felt momentary give- perhaps the weeds uprooting themselves? She continued to reel in, looking to see what plant she had caught on her hook... only to see something distinctly WRIGGLY on the line. "Oh!" She said with surprise. It was a fish! She hadn't felt the tug on the line at all, and had only noticed it once she started reeling it back in. Had it only noticed the lure when she started pulling it back in and making it move more like a real fish? She couldn't know for sure, but she wasn't going to turn down a free catch. With one hand, she quickly dipped her catch bucket into the water.

She pulled up some river water and set it down next to her, shoving it up against the cliff wall. Then she turned back to her rod and the rapidly weakening fish and began to work on reeling back in the rest of the way. It wasn't a particularly large fish, but Fiera was happy to get anything at all. It was bright and shiny though, silver scales over a white underbelly- classic fish. With one last pull, Fiera managed to drag it above the surface of the water, dropping it into the pail next to her. A bit of struggling and fiddling with the lure later, and she managed to unhook it from the lure, letting it swim around safely in the bucket. "There. Whew." She said, looking up. "What do you think of that, Tenmei?" She said, but couldn't see her tat-lung. "...Tenmei? Where are you sweetie?" She said.

"...Oh, crap." Fiera said, darting around the edge of the deep area, forgetting her stuff and packing it up completely. After a moment though, she ran back and grabbed her fishing net and the bucket, realizing she'd need them. As she ran, she realized her worst fears had come true- Tenmei had left the still area and gone back into the faster parts of the river and hadn't been able to return. Fiera couldn't see her anywhere and was quietly praying that she hadn't been washed too far downstream for Fiera to recover. "Tenmei!" She called, scanning the river as she ran alongside it. "Where are you?" She pleaded but didn't see her tat-lung anywhere. A quickly glance ahead showed that the stream calmed down a bit... or perhaps just got deeper and faster, with less visible splashes at the top. Fiera surged forward, not really wanting to find out.

She looked for a flash of blue but considering that this was all water that didn't really mean much. Still, her eyes were sharp and she managed to detect a splash that was just SLIGHTLY too large for this area of the stream. When it didn't repeat (indicating an underlying rock) she didn't waste time and leapt into the river. The water only came up to her mid calf but that was more than enough to nearly knock her off her feet, which would be far more trouble than it was worth. Even then though, the humanish managed to steel herself against the current and pressed forward toward where she saw Tenmei, brandishing the net and the bucket. "Come on... just a bit further." She said, reaching out with her net toward the splashes, which were quickly moving downstream. In one last ditch wild strike, she pushed the net into the water and pulled it back.

To her relief, she saw a characteristic shade of deep blue in her net. There was no time to let out a sigh of relief though as Fiera immediately dumped it in the pail with the other fish she had caught. Fiera dragged herself back to shore and finally looked into the pail, only to see Tenmei's soulful eyes staring back up at her apologetically. "Yeah, bet you're regretting having a bit of fun now, eh?" Fiera chuckled, and began to trudge back to her stuff. She figured that they were about done with fishing now. Tenmei had had enough of the outside world. While it was fun, Fiera was frankly exhausted, and was looking forward to being able to finish off their training. If that wasn't enough downtime for her, she wasn't sure what would be. At least she had learned a lesson however... in fact, both of them had.

Fiera hopped back over to her things and set the pail down. It didn't take too long for her to gather the rest of her things and to strap her backpack and chair to her back. Tenmei could stay in the pail with the fish she caught until they got home. It wasn't a predatory type, and Tenmei was quite a bit larger than it. Besides, she figured that Tenmei didn't need to fight against the current more than she already had, and had earned a break from the physical effort. When they got home, well, that would be something different. But for now? The tat-lung had earned a bit of a nap. Fiera had too, now that she thought of it. A few hours at home to catch up on her z's a bit, and they'd go back to training. But for now? She went ahead and walked home.

Fiera wasn't expecting to come back to the river bend so soon, but fate had intervened. As it stood, a sarane battle tournament had been announced. Fiera had never entered one before- it would be a brand new experience for her. And for her sarane, for that matter. It would be Algol's first time fighting something that wasn't her... and probably his first time getting an actual beatdown as well. Fiera knew it would probably end up for the best for him if he actually won. He would be dominant, and could probably produce some roly poly baby sarane for her to coo over and train up to be just as deadly as their father. And yet... Fiera couldn't help but be nervous. Even with the healing magic (however that worked), he could get seriously hurt in the fights. Sarane often did after all, as these competitions were frequently to knock out. They could be absolutely brutal, but that's why people came to them. Fiera knew better than most that the general public was entertained by the most savage of things. But that just meant that she had to ensure Algol would be the one to come oout on top. She had just a little bit more training she wanted to do with him to get him in tip top fighting shape. But before that... she figured it would be best for him to have some time to relax. To just chill out a bit and relax with Fiera. If she was going to throw him into a fighting ring, the best thing she could do for him now was to remind him what it felt like to be happy and safe to hopefully bring him back into that mindset later... or perhaps this was still another apology for the roughness of his breaking.

The point was, she was letting Algol have a lot more free reign over his movements than he'd normally get. She didn't even bother putting a leash on the sarane, letting him run around beside the river bed. They had gone to a rather unpopulated area of the river so she doubt anyone would walk by. And even then, Algol was pretty well socialized and likely wouldn't need restraining if that was the case anyway. Still, she was letting him run pretty rampant and holding him a "looser grip" so to speak than she usually would. He was pretty well trained after all, and would always come right back when she called, not realizing that he was no longer small enough that she could come and drag him back over by the horns if need be. In his eyes (and Fiera's for that matter), he would always be her little hatchling.

They were next to a particularly wide part of the river right now, one that was sluggish and slow moving. Fiera was nonchalantly dragging her net through the water, though it was more to watch how the currents passed through the holes in the net and less because she was actually expecting to catch anything. She didn't think that any fish would be silly enough to come this close to shore, and she was sure that the water was only inches deep in sections. No, this was more her messing around. Algol was messing around too, racing up and down the shoreline and cresting the hill to her right (as the water was on the left). Sometimes he'd duck out of sight around the hill, but would always pop back out a moment later. He seemed quite happy right now, bucking his head and flapping his wings as he ran.

Algol was normally an aggressive, angry seeming creature, especially around other humans. He was pretty huge too, around the size of a lion, and she was sure that anyone who didn't already own a sarane would be terrified upon seeing him, especially if he decided to change course and race right toward them. Not that anyone was around right now, of course- Fiera had come at a time when she knew things were slow. No, in Fiera's eyes all she could see was a particularly large whelp playing before his big day, and rolling around in the mud. Wait, rolling around in the mud? Fiera did a double take at her sarane, who had taken the opportunity to run into the shallows of the river and start wallowing, throwing clods of mud into the air with the thrashing of his tail and horns. Fiera sighed- at least sarane were easier to hose off than most pets.

Still, Algol's splashing around in the water helped to direct the humanish's attention to something ELSE splashing around in the water- specifically, in her net. There was a flash of very pale blue, and Fiera realized that she had caught something. Or at least, she nearly had. It looked like it was a little jellyfish thing of sorts. That made sense to her, of course. She was walking by a very slow, sluggish part of the river and she knew that jellyfish generally didn't like harsh currents. Of course something like this would be floating around out here. Still, it seemed to be doing its best to escape, and Fiera wouldn't allow that. She set down the bucket of water she carried to hold her catches and got a firmer grip on her net. Gently, she tried levering it out of the water, so the netting would still be in the river while the rim of the net would be above the water so the creature couldn't jump out.
