Last time he had wandered past the quest board, Kodakai ended up cleaning someone's garden for them. That was fine, but he was hoping to do something that was a little less chore-like this time around. He approached the quest board with an open mind, regardless. One of the notes mentioned research of some kind. Now that was exactly what he was looking for! He took the note down and looked it over. It dealt with some kind of creature he had never heard of before, a glowmoth. He knew what moths were, and he could assume that the ones in the note glowed. Could it really be that easy?
Well he was bound to learn something either way so there was a spring in his step as he headed off to the area where they were said to dwell. He hadn't even considered how he would attempt to catch them, yet. Normally he approached projects like this with more of a concrete plan, but this time around he was willing to wing it. Silver would be so proud of him for taking a leaf out of their book!

The lush green scenery made him smile. It was so different in the park than the canyon where he grew up. He had come to really appreciate it as he visited more and more often on his travels. At first, it was almost overwhelming with the amount of life all around, but now it almost felt soothing. Like a home away from home. Not that the canyon didn't have its unique charms, as well. The more he traveled, the more he realized that everything was the same, but different. It was a feeling that was nearly impossible to describe. Walking through the grass, he saw a few bugs run or fly off but he wasn't able to catch any of them. They were simply too small or too fast, and his claws weren't as quick as he would have liked. He frowned slightly, thinking of something he could do to improve his chances of getting one of these glowmoth things the note had written about.

Kodakai dumped his bag of supplies out into the grass, scaring off another perfectly fine bug he could have caught if he was quick enough. There wasn't a lot there other than his various notebooks, so he settled down into the grass to draw up a plan for himself. One of the things he had in the bag was a scrap of fabric, so he set it to the side and considered how he could use it to his advantage. Could he turn it in to some kind of net? There was a tree over there he could grab a young branch from. That sounded like as good of an idea as any, so he carefully placed all of the items back into his bag, one by one, and headed over. He balanced against the tree with his body so he could get on up on hind legs and reach high into the tree where the branches had new growth. He broke off a young, thin branch that was bendable enough to wrap back into a loop, then let the rest of it go. The tension on the larger branch caused it to swing wildly and come back to smack him on the nose. "Ah!" he shouted, ducking down and rubbing his nose with the cloth he still had in his hand.

Koda gave a disgruntled sigh when he looked at the cloth he had just smeared his own blood onto. That was not the smartest thing he had ever done, but it didn't stop him from turning the cloth into a net exactly. Moths weren't going to be harmed by a bloodstain. He rolled his eyes at his own foolishness and began to bend the branch into place. Silver had shown him some wood working techniques before, but he didn't have much talent for it. Whatever he did worked well enough and he hastily tied the cloth in place.
"Good enough," he said to himself. He twirled the net around in his claws a few times to admire his own craftsmanship. Not planning ahead gave him the chance to come up with an innovative solution to his problem. He was rather proud of himself, regardless of how small the accomplishment was. It really felt like he was starting to become an adventurer now, making up tools on the go and all.

Now he just had to, well, actually catch something with the net. That seemed like it was going to be the easy part. The hard part would be discovering what specimens to keep, and how to bring them back to the insect collectors who posted the quest. Again, Koda tried not to think too far ahead and worked on things done one part at a time. It had worked out for him so far, anyway.
At the first sight of a creature flying out of the grass, Koda swung his net and eagerly checked its contents. A small beetle of some kind wriggled around in there, trying to find its way out. Koda figured that a hard shelled insect such as this one was not what would be called a 'glowmoth,' so he let it go. It was only after the beetle stumbled away that he considered that they might want to research it, too. Ah well, he couldn't focus on too many things at once. They could catch their own beetles, or hire him again in the future if they truly wanted to study it.

After the beetle left, there was a drought in terms of bugs flying about. Koda wondered why that was. Could they be hiding in terror from his net? Oh! His steps had startled bugs out of their hiding spots before. Perhaps he could encourage them to come out again. He waved his long tail across the ground to encourage bugs to fly out. He watched them carefully, trying to look for anything that seemed glowmoth-y, but there weren't any stand outs.
Perhaps they were a tree dwelling species, he thought. With the same idea in mind, he went over to a tree he hadn't snapped a branch off of yet and leaned against the trunk. He did everything he could to shake the tree, but it hardly moved. He wasn't the most intimidating species of Draconic, after all. He sighed, but as he did he saw something colorful out of the corner of his eye. Gleefully he hopped over and swung his net at it, hoping that he would catch it, and that it would be the prized glowmoth he was meant to be studying.

The glowmoths teased the Draconic, as though they didn't care to be found at all.
