Fier was scared shitless by that - lept high off the ground and jumped back towards Sevyrn with such force that his body hit the woman straight in the shins. Sevyrn crouched down, candle held high up above him lest he accidentally spook again and get himself hurt on the flame. Sevyrn did not remember it raining like that before they had walked in? It was likely part of the mansion's trickery, an illusion designed to scare those within. It sure knew how to keep the vibes going...
"It's just thunder," Sevyrn assured, her hand still resting protectively on the ghaenelt's side as another Thundercats rocked the building that they were in. The familiars seemed to be unphased - this was simply a normal environment for them, it seemed. Fier didn't feel the same way, he whined and tried to climb up on to his girl's lap as if to say I don't want to be here.

The familiars were confused - the girl had been following them before now? Why had she stopped?
Sevyrn was not about to move forward without Fier, though, and he was not ready. Thunder continued to clap in the distance, each time bringing a strike of lightning so bright it illuminated the room inside the building, the creepy outline of dead tree branches seen its shadows with each clap. Rain began to fall harder and wind began to blow - so strong that the broken window was not enough to protect those inside from its whip-like gusts.
The familiars wandered off - settled in the far corner of the room, seeming to be eating... Did Sevyrn want to know what they were eating? With each loud crash of thunder, the ghaenelt with her seemed to realize just a little bit more that the thunder, like the darkness, was not enough to cause him harm.

They had just started moving, trying to escape the sharp gusts of wind, when a loud crash came from the top of a set of spiral stairs, so loud that it rattled the room below - and that was when Sevyrn realized that there was a dead, falling apart chandelier hanging from the cieling. Pieces of it clattered to the ground with a series of gentle plinks and Sevyrn scooped her ghaenelt up off the ground lest its jewels be made of glass and have shattered upon hitting the ground. Sev was the only one wearing shoes here, after all.
Fier had actually done very good with the sudden crash from above - he was obviously startled by it, and a little afraid, but he hadn't turned in to a shaking, sniveling mess like before. Perhaps he had finally realized that the noises did not innately mean that he was in danger.
"You want to go check that out?" Sevyrn asked the ghaenelt. No, Fier did not want to go check that crash out.

Fier may have been scared, but Sevyrn dared to make her way up the rickety spiral staircase, ghaenelt held in her hand tucked close to her chest. The railing was fragile, in shambles even - it wiggled back and forth beneath her weight and dared to seem like it wanted to collapse... She was so glad when she reached the top, and the door that awaited her was peeking open. Sevyrn swallowed her fears and pushed it open to reveal what might wait within.
The bright light of a full moon illuminated the toom, and Sevyrn swore she could saw movement around various parts of the open room - it seemed to be a master bedroom of some sort. Looking closer it seemed to be a trio of strange small creatures scurrying away from a tilted over model of a mansion. Closer inspection of the area revealed dust prints on the table - the model mansion falling must have been what caused that crash.

A set of teeth floated among a strange green fluid in a jar next to the dustless spot on the table, a sight that sent a shiver down the woman's spine. What the fuck were teeth doing in a jar? Why were there teeth in a jar? It was one of many strange objects and creatures she had come across so far on this adventure - and hey, it would probably make an interesting conversation piece back home? Regardless Sevyrn just... did not want to touch it.
That was when a strange feeling grew within her abdomen, a gentle pulsing she'd only felt a couple times in her life before - the woman put Fier down on the ground and followed her instincts to a chest sitting beside the rumpled bed, its lock already broken. What could be inside of there? She couldn't place the feeling, she just knew that she had felt it before.

Huh...
Sevyrn pushed the lid to the chest open, and inside sat two little crystals. They were a kind that she had never seen before, a soft off-white grey hue giving them a slight glow that stood out against the darkness caused by the bed obscuring the bright moonlight.
Crystals. Those were what she had been looking for, ever since she had laid her eyes on that mind crystal back in the mines. She had the mind crystal, she had two of these... she had a king of evergreen, who she thought would be responsible for giving her a healing berry in a couple months....
The potential of exploring the realm of magic had become one step closer today - she needed to take those with her. She had absolutely no idea if these were the kinds of crystals that she might want, but they were worth holding on to.
"Look what I found," Sevyrn said to Fier, flashing the crystals to her ghaenelt before putting them safely in her backpack.

The stairs behind them creaked and Fier was put on edge by it, but the ghaenelt didn't waver. Sevyrn found herself more afraid than he seemed to be until the soft red glow of one of the familiar's eyes quelled her rising anxiety - this was friend approaching not foe. Bones clattered against the rail not stopping once the familiar had entered the room - it seemed that the white one was joining them as well.
The strange little creatures roaming the room seemed to be growing more comfortable with Sevyrn's presence now that some of their own mansion-dwelling beasts had made their presence known. Three little bodies slowly moved out of their hiding spots, and Sevyrn stayed crouched low to the ground as to not scare them back up. She wanted the chance to be able to take a good look at them - Fier wanted to actually go check them out, though.

"Fier stay," Sevyrn said to the ghaenelt, voice low as to not scare off the various creatures that were here with them. The young one paused his steps and looked back to Sev, before laying down on the ground with his tail wagging - he really wanted to go say hi to these strange little creatures. Sevyrn found them to be slightly horrific, but that was the theme of this month, right? At least now she would be able to dress her house up in vai min mur celebration if she so felt like it, without having to go buy 'spooky' decorations from a store. She had a whole jar of teeth to put on display next to a candy bowl now!
The strange little moving mushroom seemed to be the first that was interested in checking Fier and Sev out. She had already seen a few of those around... they must be popular in these crowds.

The old house creaks. Is that laughter you can hear, echoing the halls?
[Nothing happens.]

A sudden shrill screech of laughter shook Sevyrn to the bones, the strange sound coming from... seemingly nowhere? Above them, if Sevyrn could place it at all, but she didn't see any way to access an attick. She raised her candle high above her head to illuminate the ceiling as best as possible - perhaps she was missing the faint outline of an attic hatch? At the same time... did she really want to go up in some kind of creepy attic anyways? It was probably littered with bugs... maybe, almost definitely, even the worst ones - spiders. The mere thought of that made Sevyn shudder and consider giving up on her adventure.
This place was designed to be as creepy as possible... it would be no surprise if it was littered with six and eight legged creepy crawlies that would make her want to be as far away from here as possible.

There it was!
Sevyrn could barely make out the outline, but it was there nonetheless, the subtle line of a hatch barely standing out against the rickety ceiling of the room. There was a small handhold, barely imperceptible, and Sevyrn lept up to take a hold of it.
A rope ladder fell with the hatch, and Sevyn scooped Fier up and put him in the hood of her jacket so that she would be able to climb up. The ladder felt unstable beneath her feet, like each of the wooden steps was rotting and about to collapse beneath her. What in the fuck was she getting herself in to? In that moment Sevyrn needed to question whether this was really a journey that she wanted to be taking. It seemed too far to turn around now, though - she had already commited and was off the ground. Time to go in to the unknown!

It seemed that finding the hatch had disrupted a thick layer of dust that had built up in the attic, stirring it in to the air so thick that as soon as Sevyrn's head broke through to the cramped space and tried to breathe, she could do nothing but cough - and said coughing uprooted even more of the undisturbed debris. Yeah... this probably was a shitty idea. The woman put her candle down on the food so that she could push the rest of her body up, and once she had cleared the entrance she peered from one direction to the other.
The attic was small, barely big enough for her to move around in when sitting. She would have to crawl around to check everything out. There were layers of chests, old newspapers, a variety of old, dust-covered trinkets... and then Sevyrn saw the thick layer of spider webs taking up the far corner of the room.

Okay, okay... she just had to check everything out, and then she could leave. She didn't even have to go near the far corner! Sevyrn scooped her ghaenelt out of her jacket and put him down on the ground, and Fier seemed much more interested in those webs. Then it clicked - ghaenelt loved to eat spiders. Despite how scared of this place the young one had been at first, he had actually been one of her best bets to stay safe from the creepy crawlies while stuck within the walls of this mystical estate.
"Go eat the spiders," Sevyrn urged, and though Fier did not know what she was saying to him, he bounded towards the thick webs and seemed to start gobbling up.... something. The woman truly hoped that he was making a meal out of some unwanted creepy crawlies, as much as the idea of anything eating spiders made her throat feel like it wanted to close.

Where to start! Sevyrn shimmied away from the entrance to the attic and towards where the pile of miscellaneous things were stored - she had to move past a pile of stray newspapers, pushing through them before leaving them behind to see if there were any interesting headlines amongst the mix, and then she reached some strange chests and storage bins. For all she knew there were going to be rodents (which wouldn't be so bad) or bugs (which would be terrible) inside... but there was also the chance that she would find something of interest, maybe something akin to that creepy jar of teeth that she had found earlier. There was no way to know what mysteries might await, though if she found nothing she absolutely would be returning to the room below immediately.
Fier was enjoying his feast - Sevyrn had been right, the back corner was a spider-fest. The rough part of that was that the young ghaenelt was getting covered in spider webs...
