Being a land dwelling serpent, Basantai did expend a lot more energy than his aquatic relatives. The beast used the power of wind to keep himself from dying under his own weight, which did help stave off energy consumption.. It was odd to hear the creature was hungry. Perhaps it could do with some kind of treat for the moment? Though, a treat for the beast would still be a sizable portion..
[Big hunger? Or small hunger?], the leopard asked for clarity, hoping for the latter. He was enjoying his time out here with the serpent, after all. It would've been a shame to cut their time here short to get food. Now like they couldn't just come back, but there was a certain appeal to uninterrupted bonding time. Basantai seemed to consider for a moment what manner of hunger it felt before deciding upon small and communicating such to its master. The mental sound of which was a great relief to the mammalian.

A small hunger was something he could remedy with a bit of work. The river provided a wealth of fish, should he find deeper waters. Which was a bit more difficult in the dry season, but that was fine. They'd need to travel upstream a bit. There was the off chance of finding a small pocket of deep water around here, but the chances of that were slim. The leopard finished shaking off the excess water from his fur and began heading upstream. His gear was further up the riverbank anyway, making a slight return trip now was probably for the better. Xentus beckoned for the pliathor to come along after him as he padded through the slick mud and stone which made up the terrain here. Oh, and while he was at it, he could check up on that weird fish he'd caught earlier. With hope, it stayed put in that tide pool.

Basantai's eyes scanned the shallow river as the duo walked along it. The sight of the occasional fish darting by only made him feel all the more snackish. The master seemed to have something planned though. Before long, they'd reached the claimed spot for the leopard's belongings. The rod was left here along with a few other effects, none of which Xentus was concerned with going missing or getting stolen. This tributary in particular was far off the beaten path. He wanted to stay as secluded as possible for the sake of the pliathor, who didn't yet take well to the presence of others.
[Patience, Basa. This one will try to garner a few fish that may sate your hunger], he communicated to the serpent while setting his rod. A hook was fastened and a bit of bait attached. There was a spot of deeper water that looked promising.. And with the flick of the wrist, the line was cast. The spool whined until the hook plunked into the water with a satisfying splash.

Now, to let that sit there and wander off or stand and wait.. The leopard was going to lean toward the latter option, but the sound of something clicking nearby drew his attention. His eyes turned first to the pliathor, but the serpent was simply standing there minding himself. Just to be sure, Xentus let his eyes linger on the beast for a moment longer, but it couldn't be the source of the noise. His pointed ears flicked around and honed in on the nearby boulder that he was using as a table for his belongings. He stalked about the rock.. Ah, there. Within a hidden crevice, a very bright red crab. The man's return must've disturbed it. For a brief moment, he considered whether or not it might be a suitable snack for the pliathor. He didn't suppose the serpent might like such a crunchy treat though.
Pondering aside, he was going to let the creature be, but the sight of a metal can within its lair spurred him. To see such filth tainting nature was a shame. If he could lure it out and take claim of the can, he would count it as his good deed for the day. "This one doesn't suppose you might be willing to surrender your can, hm?", he muttered softly to the crab, "Fancy an exchange?" The leopard garnered some of his fishing bait and scattered a few pellets on the rocky shore just beyond the boulder.

The little critter clacked its pincers together again, as a little warning, but was soon distracted by the offerings laid out for it. Ooh, was that food...? It scuttled over to snatch up a bit of bait and feed itself with it. Good! It moved from side to side with a joyous expression.

The leopard watched the little crab scuttle about. It seemed pleased with his tribute at least. He took a moment to study the tiny beast since he'd never seen such a thing before. That great pincer it had looked nasty to be on the receiving end of - it was about as big as a football! As such, the mammalian was quite wary to reach his hand into that crevice just yet. He decided to feed the crab a bit more bait and lure it further away from its den. The passing idea to net the thing did cross his mind, but given its size (and that big claw) it could probably just tear its way through the mesh. Ever patient, Xentus scattered a few more pellets for the creature to feast on.
The pliathor in his company finally grew aware of the tiny intruder, his cyan eyes staring down at the crab-creature. Its thoughts prodded into the leopard's mind, asking whether or not this thing was a threat. The serpent was more than ready to take action if its master called, but Xentus hushed his concerns; [It is a simple crustacean of sorts, no fret Basantai.]

The creature was delighted to receive more in the way of food! It scuttled right over to you, looking up at you expectantly - where was the rest? It expected to be kept well stocked with bait if it was going to come with you!
[Congratulations, you have successfully tamed the creature!]

The crab seemed quite accepting of this gift of food, even scuttling right up to his feet for more. Basantai began puffing himself up at the unapproved encroach of the creature, just waiting for it to dare try something. Another mental shush came from the leopard as the man gave an assertive glance to the serpent. He didn't need the pliathor to get huffy over something so minute. Another reminder to teach it to be more relaxed around beings that weren't himself. The beast towered, but made no move that would further displease its master. Xentus gave the crab a bit more bait, then sneaked his way to its little hiding hole. The can was retrieved, as well as a tiny black pearl and another shell. The can would get disposed of, but the other two items would join his collection. The pearl was too small to be exceptionally valuable, but it could still fetch him a few credits, with hope.

He wasn't very good at pinning value on these kinds of aquatic goods.. Rarity and beauty were oft the makers of price, but with how little he knew of the aquatic realm, his estimate on price would be blind. As much as he enjoyed collecting such items, he was more interested in what he could sell these things for. A leopard had to earn his keep somehow. The trinkets were stashed and the crab allowed back in its den. It looked rather expectantly toward the mammalian, though. Perhaps he could later coax it into joining his menagerie using the promise of food. Xentus excused himself from the presence of the crab and turned to Basantai. The serpent seemed relieved now that the possible threat was gone. Its wayward thoughts echoed about a strange creature and the safety of master. The leopard gave the serpent a smile then suddenly remembered about the beast's small hunger.

Well, it wasn't going to eat the crab, he decided that much for certain. There was the off chance that he could reel something in, but the dry season wasn't promising. The net was chosen again as the main method of choice for making catches. Wading by the shoreline and stalking after whatever creatures came within net-range would be the best option. Xentus beckoned for the serpent to follow along as he started padding up river. The muddy bank was stonier and wetter, which would hopefully bode well for any finds. And he could still keep a look out for anything of interest, let it be a can or shell. Basantai slowly made after the master, staying close and offering the man its shadow as shade. The massive beast fanned its wing-fins out to catch more sunlight, casually basking while it walked. Its white and gold scales glimmered in the light, reflecting the innate radiance of the regal serpent.

The morsels to be found by foraging were meager. For the mammalian tongue, these various shelled delicacies hidden under rocks were plentiful. But the the purposes of sating the serpent.. Not so much. Xentus felt sooner to give up on trying to garner something for the beast, as his efforts were gaining him nothing of substance. They'd need to head back to the keep.. Ah, that'd be a hassle. A slightly frustrated expression crossed the man's face, his head turning to loop up at the towering beast. He could have the droid fly over with something though.. It was amazing over what distance he could tap into the robot's mind. Xio had plenty of chores to be done, but the leopard supposed it wouldn't be the worst to call it for an errand. Until it arrived, he could work with the serpent some more. [This one is afraid he cannot sate that hunger of yours at the moment, Basantai], he told the beast, [However, this one has a plan. It requires patience.]

At hearing the intruding thoughts whisper into its mind, the beast craned its head down and looked dotingly upon its master. It would starve should the man command, and as such, patience was an easy request. It passed through thought an affirmative hum. Xentus nodded and clasped his hands together. He had paged the droid, who would arrive after some time. But until then, he had plans to keep them occupied.
"Bow, Basa!", Xentus called and down came that massive head. The two could now gaze at one another at eye level, and did for a moment before the leopard decided to make a move and leaned over the creature's gold-tipped snout. A slow, curious blink passed the serpent's eyes, watching its master rest his upper half on its scales. His weight was light, not pressing. The mammalian seemed to proceed carefully, watching for any sign of discomfort from the beast.

Basantai shuffled his feet slightly, but otherwise attempted to stay perfectly still for whatever stunt its master was attempting. The sensation of the man's fur on its scales was a bit ticklish, though.. It tried to resist, to fight against the feel for the sake of not disrupting the leopard, but it faltered. Its snout wrinkled up and its lip-line twitched. Far behind the snaking body of the serpent, its long, furred tail lashed, sweeping through the air in an almost beautiful dance, if not for what it signaled. Xentus took only a moment to read the signs - immediately flinging himself off the beast's snout just seconds before it suddenly raised its head into the air and violently unleashed a sneeze. With a cracking bellow, a spray of pliathor mucus and saliva scattered into the air and rained down in a gentle mist. The stench of which was.. Unpleasant, to say the least.
