> Xentus, accompanied by...
It had been a while since his last venture to this place. This time, however, he wasn't accompanied by the ever-silent trod or a squawking pair of kairfuryoo. Instead, his company was a single small.. Plant ferret-cat? In all honesty, he wasn't experienced with pachee. But, he figured this would be an excellent gateway for him to add cute plant creature to his personal menagerie. Indeed, the bengal-striped pachee with him today wasn't even his own - yet another loan from Jack's collection of creatures. He thought her a kind woman, and did the best to maintain the well being of her little one.
Xentus had already gone about filling out the paperwork for the breeding room, somewhat familiarized with the process already. He sat in the sterile white lobby, waiting for the owner of the to-be partnered pachee - the same woman who had trained his fiery wiurn, Nazura. It never occurred to him that they never had a proper meeting; he had been meaning to give a word of thanks and appreciation for her work. Now, he supposed, would be as good a time as any. He humming gently to the pachee curled on his lap, petting its soft little head.

Fiera was late. Fashionably so of course however, and would inform anyone who asked of that. In reality though she just couldn’t decide what scarf she wanted to wear before leaving home, which turned out to be a moot point anyway when she realized it was far too hot out for a scarf anyway. Still, she had come in one of her Sunday best ensembles for a proper introduction with Xentus. She had met the mammalian very briefly in order to pick up a wiurn she did training for a while back, but had never really spoken to him. Well, considering how long pachee breedings took (or at least with how long her stays in the waiting room took), they’d probably have some time to get to know each other- so she couldn’t look any level of sloppy. Even as she stepped in through the sliding doors of the breeding center, pet carrier under arm, every part of her was coiffed, pressed and primped to her highest of standards. 2

The pachee, Dune, was a cute little handful. It chittered quietly, curled in a little ball, as if purring in response to his touch. It took a while to get him to calm down at first - this was a new place, with a new person, far from home. But peace offerings of treats did the job in acclimating it surprisingly quickly. In this case, strawberries. Duma, after having stuffed its cheeks, settled down and relaxed. Xentus found quiet entertainment in the plant-cat, not minding the wait.
Every so often, he'd peek up to view the peoples coming and going, just to be sure he hadn't missed Fiera's arrival. He was perceptive enough, and finally, the one he was waiting for arrived. He set Duma down, double checking its harness, then approached the woman with a friendly smile. "Greetings. Miss Ferella, yes?", Xentus opened with a small bow, then offered his pleasantries, "You look well. It is a pleasure to be making your acquaintance."

Fiera noticed the mammalian as soon as she walked in- he was quite distinctive after all, and the pachee he had was the exact same as the one from the photo she had been sent. Still, she let him approach her, nudging her sunglasses down with a couple fingers as she held her pet carrier delicately. Oh, a little bow? For her? Perhaps this guy wasn’t so bad after all. She tittered politely and offered a hand delicately for a shake. “Oh, the pleasure is mine, Xentus.” She said sweetly. It had been a while since she had gotten to exchange such formal pleasantries- if made her feel like such a fancy lady. “Is that Duma?” She inquired. “He looks even better than the pictures- as do you of course.” She said with another polite chuckle. If this young man was going to be so charming, she might as well return the favor.

As far as first impressions went, Fiera struck him as a rather refined woman: well kept, courteous, and pleasant. One who demanded respect. Xentus took her hand and sealed their greetings with a quick shake. Formal, official. A stark difference from his usual means of meeting people, which typically included one of his animals invading their space. He had the feeling Fiera wouldn't appreciate that nearly as much.
"Indeed it is - Duma has been cared for well", the mammalian answered warmly, peering down to the pachee for a moment before continuring, "Xentus is here in Miss Jack's stead; Duma is not of his own. He hopes this will not be a problem." He briefly explained the situation, one that seemed common enough for those that frequented the breeding center. Still, it would be wrong of him to take credit of someone else's work. Duma glanced around curiously, sitting up on his hind legs for a better vantage point with his segmented tail flicking like a squirrel's.

Fiera was glad for such a nice change of pace- like Xentus, her meetings with people were also usually marked by being rudely interrupted by various pets. By virtue of Duma being well behaved and Spices being in a box however, they were able to have a proper, businesslike introduction, which came as a relief to her. “Oh, that’s not a problem at all!” Fiera reassured, waving away any worries. “I’ve rented pachee for breedings from Jack plenty of times myself. She’s quite the prolific breeder of pachee. Almost as much as myself!” She said with a small titter. Meanwhile, Spices peered through the bars of her carrier. Pachee might have roots on their feet instead of mouths in their faces, but they could still smell just fine, and this place smelled... weird. She couldn’t tell if it was good weird or bad weird however- there was just so much, and it was all so new!

Ah, while he didn't think himself unique in renting a stud, it was interesting to know that Fiera had done the same before as well. It was oddly reassuring. Not only that, but he was impressed to learn that she was well experienced with this form of animal husbandry. A trickle of fear seeded itself in the back of his mind, that his freshness in this venture would be much too obvious.. Well. Perhaps it would be better to be upfront about it than to cower away.
"This one must admit, he is rather new to this. He has never reared pachee before", he explained, almost sheepishly, "Xentus will do well to follow Miss Ferella's guidance, should she be so kind as to provide it." What was there to expect with these strange plant-animals anyway? The most he know was that males made pollen and females received it. By what means did either process happen, he wasn't sure. Duma there didn't seem to be making pollen at the moment yet. The segmented tail flicked, but no dust was flung into the air. Perhaps, like orbaru, they needed to play? He was at a loss.

Fiera was absolutely delighted at Centus’s proposal! Finally, someone recognizing her greatness! “Oh darling, you’ve come to the right person!” Fiera said humbly. “I have a great deal of experience with pachee. If you have any questions at all, don’t be afraid to ask.” She glanced around conspiratorily for a moment as well before leaning in. “I was sure to bring some pachee berries for the breeding as well- we’re pretty much guaranteed good offspring with those.” She said. Then she glanced over toward the front desk. “Have you checked in yet? They can be a little slow in assigning a room sometimes, but I can usually pester them into moving me further up the line.” She said. If there was one thing Fiera loathed, it was just waiting around. Granted she disliked a lot of other things too, but that seemed most pertinent for this particular scenario.

The woman's words were quite reassuring; he felt secure in that he was in good hands. What better way to learn the ropes than under the wing of an experienced guide? A relieved look crossed the leopard's face, nodding along as Fiera spoke. Already he had learned of something new - pachee berries. Some food that enhanced the quality of their young, it seemed. And something that he was happy to know she would provide for this instance.
"Indeed he has, so perhaps the queue will not be too long", Xentus answered, then gestured with open hands to the box she held, "This one will sit with the pachee while your registration is attended to. If he may?" The carrier didn't look heavy by any means, but it felt only right to offer to hold it for her. A prim and proper woman should not be burdening herself with such things when accompanied. And menial handiwork like this would, in some small way, make up for his lack of knowledge and preparation. Besides, Duma and the one Fiera brought could get acquainted in the meantime. The harnessed pachee already seemed quite curious at the nose poking from the bars of the box, tilting his head curiously.

It was nice to be treated like a lady for once. Finally, someone who knew the meaning of respect! She was quite pleased with the offer to take her pachee female off her hands too while she went to go get registered. “Oh, but of course!” Fiera said, handing over the carrier. “Careful though, Spice is heavier than she looks. She can also be a bit of a rascal with strangers- she thinks she’s cute enough to get away with it with people who aren’t her owner.” She said. As if on cue, a tiny little paw reached from between the bars, snatching at Xentus’s fur. A new person, what fun! If Xentus changed his mind however, it was too late now as Fiera had walked away to the front registration desk. She wrestled with her purse, digging around to find her registration paperwork and city ID. The conversation between her and the woman at the front desk could only be heard distantly by Spice, who was still trying to touch the newcomer.

The crate was a bit more heavy that he expected, but nothing he couldn't handle. He gave an affirmative nod to Fiera, keeping in mind the wily little paw poking through. He wasn't going home missing fur tufts today. "Hello, Spice", the leopard murmured to the paw while making his way over to one of the lines of seats against the wall, "Oh, cute little one aren't you? Say hi, Duma." Xentus looked through the grate at the fluffy brown female pachee, then turned the box so that the male could sate his curiosity finally. Hopefully the two would like each other well enough, else this venture would be cut short.
Duma piped up with little chirps, 'chee? chee', bobbing his head to get a better look into the carrier from the ground. He decided to hop up onto an adjacent seat to the leopard for closer examination, leading with his nose. His tail flicked in excitement. There were plenty of other pachee where he came from, but this one was new!

Spice was thrilled to meet someone new. There were plenty of pachee where she came from of course, but none that looked quite like him! She gave a few chirps in reply, changing the aim of her paw from Xentus to this newcomer. If he could just come a little closer, they could play! Or maybe she’d just swat at his head. They were pretty much the same thing in her mind. Still, she seemed happy enough with the mate chosen for her.
As Xentus suspected however, Fiera came back rather quickly. “Excellent!” She said. “They’re all ready for us! Room eight, I think.” She said, pointing to a set of double doors next to the front desk that she knew led to the breeding rooms. “Shall we head over?” She said, holding her hands out in case Xentus decided he didn’t want to be holding Spice after all.

The male poked his nose just beyond the range of the extended paw, skirting the playful swipes with cautious flinches. He wanted to play, but the box was in the way. Soft chittering emitted from Duma as he shuttered his leaf 'wings', trying his best to impress Spice with his serenade. But as it would be, their banter was cut short as Fiera returned.
The wait was short but enough to let the pachee get their greetings in. The leopard stood as the woman approached. "Yes, let us be off", Xentus nodded and returned the carrier to its owner, "Come along, Duma." The leashed pachee seemed sad its new friend was taken away, but scampered close after the mammalian as he walked off. Xentus was familiar enough with the building to lead the way, happy enough to escort the party to the assigned room. It was a short enough walk, thankfully, only four doors down.
"After you", the man offered as he opened the door and held it, waving Fiera in.

Spice swept her paw at Duma several more times, trying her level best to get at him. This wasn’t the MOST fun game she had ever played, but it was still pretty ok! She whined pathetically as Fiera picked up the carrier however, taking her away from her new playmate. She wasn’t done yet! How rude! She sat in the back of her carrier and huffed loudly, which Fiera promptly ignored. “Yes, lets be off!” She agreed as she adjusted the carrier and followed the mammalian. She glanced around the hall as she walked, but it hadn’t changed much. The front room of the breeding center was always warm and inviting and the breeding rooms themselves were always perfect for their wards, but these halls always seemed so dull in comparison. Still, she couldn’t help but chuckle as Xentus held open the door for her. “Why thank you! What a gentleman.” She said as she walked in, before setting down Spice’s carrier and getting out the pachee berries,
