Humans often struggled with their natures. Endymion had taken a night to go with Vixie not too long ago in which he had sat at the feet of a great draconic, an elder lashak, that had told him about his many misadventures with humans and their lives, with his life. He said that humans, while lucky and good for a draconic over all, were fickle strange beings. They were arrogant and had such vibrant personalities that changed so much over their lives, but they also fought each other back and forth over their true natures. It made them single-handedly the most interesting and frustrating things in the world. Draconics were different, tended to stay the same with some growth. It was the way of their people to live like this. But humans... Humans had strange and sometimes terrible things that happened to them all the time.
It occurred to Endymion that he didn't know Morgan at all.

Morgan takes a break to take a drink out of a water bottle, and then pulls another, clean, one out for Endymion. "Here Endymion, you're probably thirsty. O-open your mouth, and I'll just pour it on in." They said to him. Endymion nods, and opens his mouth. Morgan unscrews the lid and then pours it in to his mouth. After he was done, Morgan put the bottles back into their backpack. Endymion licks his chops of the remaining water, and then pipes up- "Morgan. Humans are... Hatchlings, at some point, yes?" He said. He wasn't sure what the word for adolescent humans was.
Morgan chuckled, nervously, and nodded. "Yeah, I-I was a kid once."
Endymion nods, and then asks- "What was your... Kidhood like?"
Morgan's expression became unreadable, and they turned a little quickly, with a sharp intake of breath. It wasn't particularly a thing Morgan wanted to talk about.

Endymion thought he had done something wrong, until suddenly, Morgan spoke. "It was... Good. My father was a... Well, he w-was a good dad." Morgan said. Endymion is sure that there was another bit of information coming after that, so he refrained from asking more questions. "He was a scientist. He worked for the labs. He used to c-cook me dinner, and I would cook him breakfast, and he always put my drawings up on the walls..." They chuckled. "Even though t-they were never any good!" They broke down after that, laughing and crying as they spoke. "Dad was a good man. But he's gone... He..." Don't tell a child what really happened, they thought to theirself. "He disappeared. That's not normal for human dads." They said, quietly.
Endymion puts a paw on Morgan's leg. "I'm sorry about your father."

After a few moments, Morgan caught their breath, and patted Endymion's paw. "It's... Not okay, but we all h-have to move on when stuff like that happens. I was twelve... T-that is about halfway through hatchling-hood, for your understanding." They said. "I d-didn't know how to live on my own yet, and t-that was almost a problem. B-but I pulled through. That's all we can do." They repeated. "And now, y-you are stuck with me." Morgan said, breathing out in one quick harsh breath. "That's not fair to you."
Endymion tilts his head, to look up at Morgan's face. "It is fair. Having a human is a dream come true, to some families." He thought about Vixie when he said this. He knew that she wanted this, this bonding. He sort of took that from her, whenever he came into existence.

Morgan smiled, and huffed a bit. It was a half-choked sob kind of noise, but they were holding it together fairly well for a human. Endymion shakes his head. "The other night, I left with Vixie to go visit her old clan's patriarch. He's a BIG orange lashak, with red paws." He looked at his own paws, moving his little claws around. "Anyway, grampie Mintaka is also a bonded draconic. He says that humans are good luck, and that if there is a bonded draconic in the clan, that it brings prosperity to everyone in the entire clan. Humans have important skills that draconics do not have. You... Bind us." Then he sighs. "Also, this is... Not fair to Vixie." He said, looking away. "She wanted to be your bonded. She was so sure? Why do I even exist?" He says, suddenly looking back up at Morgan cautiously.
Morgan picked up another rock from the ground and tested it in their hand.

That was when the human realized that the rock in their hand was heavily. Strangely so for the size of the thing. They ignored the heavy rock for now, and instead realized that they were having a bit of a crisis here. They drew in a hiss of a breath as they considered what to explain this away as. Of course, they could tell the 'truth', but that was something they mostly read about in what they had assumed to, up until this point, be story books. "Well..." They breathed out. "You see- the story books tell about how s-sometimes... Draconic kin are uh, found? Awaken? After the first one of their species awakes... Usually because a-uh, human is bonded to them?" They weren't entirely sure how to put it in a way that makes sense. "So, we are bound, b-but not in the usual way. I didn't choose you, you see? M-more... You align with my soul?"[62]

Morgan had no idea how this... Admittedly adorable, young draconic was supposed to be a manifestation of a half of their spirit. Sure, he seemed to be aligned with storms, but he was so... Perfect. And Morgan was VERY MUCH not so. They couldn't even imagine... He was also colored up cutely, but quite strangely. He was a nice color. It reminded Morgan of warm and crisp fall days, and cool sharp fall nights. He had a faint smell of ozone and petrichor to him that Morgan couldn't quite place. More Ozone than Petrichor, perhaps. They wished that they could be the physical manifestation of a thousand stormy autumns, like he was, but they just weren't. They were a monster. A dark and terrible monster, and the worst kind. How could they have manifested someone so awesome?
There was no way that the stories could be true. The human refuses to believe it.

Morgan chuckles. "Maybe you should ask that Lashak, or Vixie." They decide. "I d-don't believe the stories. BUT- if you are a manifestation that has s-something to do with a spirit, y-you are the better half." Endymion looks a little concerned, for a moment, but decides not to push. Morgan instead holds out the rock that they were holding. "So, what do you think is in this one?" They asked, grinning through it. Today had been a literal trainwreck, but they were starting to be less fearful than they had been a bit before. They would get through this day. They'd gotten through a whole bunch more just like it.
Endymion looks at the rock for a moment, sort of looking concerned, and then seems to understand something from it. "I think that one could conduct... Energy." He decides. Now it was Morgan's turn to look confused. "What do you mean?"

He tilts his head, slightly. "Remember the storm from the other night?" He says, simply.
"So, it could conduct electricity." Morgan said, understanding better now. "B-But how do you know that?"
"From Grandfather Thunder." He mentions, simply. Morgan nods slowly, in understanding. "That's the deity of the Thunderhead Clan according to my books... So that is your clan- it makes sense." They replied. Suddenly, things made a lot more sense. Then, they squinted at him. "Shouldn't you be a viking or something?"
Endymion frowns. "A viking?"
Morgan laughs. "Okay, yeah, no, y-you wouldn't know about, like... It's slang for a barbarian or something. You don't seem very aggressive, you know?"
Endymion tilts his head and goes to ask another question, but Morgan cuts him off. "Oh goodness, we're gonna have to teach you to read sometime."

It was then that Morgan realized that they needed to head home for the evening. They grabbed all of the rocks they could, nodding at the young draconic as they did. "There's something I've been considering..." Which was true. "H-how about you and Vixie go visit that Lashak for a few days, and give me a week to go back t-to the Labs City and try to figure this whole thing out." Morgan had been wondering how they were going to break this to him, so they hoped that this was going to work. "Then, w-when I come back, you c-can come with me to the Labs City and... I dunno, g-go sightseeing or something." They said. "A-and then, we'll come back to the mines here and spend a well-planned day. Whadya say?" They grinned.
Endymion nodded. He needed about a week to think about this, as well.

Good memories had been made for the few days that Morgan had spent out at the Labs City with Endymion, and it had taken them another month to get back down to the Canyon of Eterra to spend more time with Endymion and Vixie. For two days they mostly played around the house and Morgan taught them a few things about science, and then of course they had plenty of lovely meals and such. On the third day, Vixie goes to visit her grandpa, and Morgan gears up for another mining excursion with Endymion. They get down to the main hallway pretty well lickety split, and Morgan smiles at him.
"Are you feeling better?" Endymion gets out before Morgan says anything. "I didn't want to ask you in front of Vixie." He explained, not wanting Morgan to wonder why he hadn't asked before.
"Better, I think." They nodded.

Endymion looked pleased at that, and then serious. Morgan carefully avoided looking at his eyes, and then adjusted the strap of the backpack on their back. It was incredibly heavy, and a wonderful way to avoid what they knew was about to be a talk that was going to upset them most likely. Endymion did not spare Morgan's feelings, though. He took the moment of clarity in their world that they didn't get too often. "You have something wrong with you- no, wait." He says, obviously realizing that it sounded very bad to tell someone that they 'had something wrong with them'. He squints, searching for the words, and then decides on: "You have... A concern. I can feel it- you have magic." He said. Morgan shook their head. "Swallowed a Chaos node. Probably the dumbest plan ever- I may have been a smart rich kid, but I wasn't wise."[68]

Endymion shakes his head. "You aren't wise now, either." He says, voice a little sad. "You are not a chaotic person. That is the problem- you are so... Orderly. So particular- you do everything the exact same fashion and order every single time." At that, he nodded. "Now, you'll probably never completely integrate with it. So, you are busted. You probably had something going on even before then." He was harsh, but surprisingly insightful. Morgan was sure that this was the longest he'd really gone on with them about anything.
Morgan rubbed the back of their neck sheepishly, but Endymion kept on- "It is okay, though. That is fine. I know what I am working with now, and we can do this." It was incredibly awkward, but they breathed out a quick sigh anyway.
"Well, for now lets get to doing some mining." Morgan said. Hopefully they'd get to what they wanted to do, today.
