Renathan wasn't sure if he was going to have time during any month to do quests, so he was surprised to find an empty slot of time (even a full two days!) to go to the questing board and see if there was anything there that needed doing that he could actually do. Of course, he had lots of time constraint concerns. He couldn't take on anything that was going to take more than two days (including sleeping time of course), and he couldn't take anything on that was going to require a ton of work from him when it came to creatures. For one, Auburn was all tied up in the contest hall, and Lisle was raising his kits. So, the russet mammalian goes to the questing board with Lazare on a lead. Ever since he had been transformed, poor Lazare was just a giant beast now, and a little aggressive too.

Renathan was sure that Lazare wouldn't try to hurt anyone at all, but especially not whenever he was there. He was still hoping for the questing board to be a little bit uncrowded, but he was also hoping to have a good choice since it was so early on in the month that he got his short work break on. He was quite excited to be able to go out and do something new! He had a bit of a moment of frustration whenever he saw that there was a group around the questing board. How often did this happen? At least every other month! With a sigh beneath his mask, thankfully far away enough not to be heard, he goes to lead Lazare up closer to the group of people, though not close enough for Lazare to accidentally kick anyone if he got a wild hair. He strained his ears to listen.

Renathan was able to tell that someone with some kind of authority, though not an aggressive nature, was speaking ahead of him. He was quite tall, so he was able to look over the tops of the heads of some of the shorter individuals in the group to see that there was an individual there, a woman in some kind of a business suit. Or at least that was his first impression- he'd never seen a white business suit before... It was odd. He patted Lazare on the head (Lazare was nearly as tall as he was now, so it was an odd sensation!) and listened the best he could. Something about a comet? Whenever the individual was done speaking and the group dispersed, Renathan stepped up to them, keeping his body between Lazare's and her's, just in case Lazare did anything aggressive (Renathan was NOT about to give him that chance).

The individual had a bright bow on her head- something starry colored? It was pretty odd, Renathan had never seen one like it. It must have been made custom, surely. He had a good eye for that kind of thing. People had seemed pretty excited and were babbling a lot whenever they had left, so Renathan was curious as to what was going on. "So, I couldn't hear over the excitement. What is going on?" He asked, truly curious. He was so very happy to maybe find something interesting to do yet again- he hadn't enjoyed quests much recently, really since the enjoyable moth quest. 'Tonight, a comet that only comes around once every 200 years is going to be coming back into view! We're looking for anyone that can help out and take up some of the workload to help. Here, have a flyer!' She said, handing Renathan a flyer. 'That is a cute Orbaru, by the way!' Renathan turned to look at the big ole critter at that. "Thanks! And I'd love to help!"[4]

Well, Renathan wasn't exactly sure how he was going to be able to help. He was a jewelsmith, and not a scientist, though he was sure that the scientist he was acquaintances with was probably not one to do this kind of thing either. He steps away, leading the tall orbaru of course to keep him close, and tries to figure out what kind of help he could provide. That was when it hit him- his shop could do the catering. He wasn't normally one to do any catering, but there were going to be a ton of folks out tonight really late, after probably full work days, just to see this big ole space apparition. It would also be great for public relations, and might earn the Catseye more customers! He was extremely excited for that, at the very least.
"Lazare, let's go buddy, we've got to hit the Catseye!"

Lazare didn't technically know his name (funny, since the russet mammalian had possessed him for a long time) but he did know his designation tonality that was made by his beloved humanoid. He follows after the huge orbaru (because he couldn't really imagine Renathan as being much else but a weird orbaru at this point) excitedly. He gets bored about halfway home and manifests himself a cake, taking large bites out of it. Renathan had been terrified that it wasn't healthy, and while he really shouldn't be eating that much cake, Orbaru were made to digest mostly sugar (though fructose was much more preferred to other forms of sugar) so Renathan had stopped stressing him out by fighting over it. It was a mess anyway, getting cake all over himself due to having to filch it from Lazare, sometimes several times in a row.
The pair finally made it to the Catseye, and Renathan ducked his head to go in, leading Lazare through the door.

One of Renathan's apprentices was running the cafe in his absence- while the other was working on jewelry in the back. Both of them were about to graduate, of course, so Renathan would soon enough see them off as journeymen, and would have to find assistance. Today, it looked like young Geri, the panite, was manning the counter. Renathan raises a leathery hand in greeting. "Hey Geri!" He said. Geri looks up from where she is shining the counter with a wash-rag. She puts her hands on her hips and tilts her head. 'Didn't we tell you we had the next few days? Did you have to come in and make sure we weren't messing up?' She's not insulted, just playfully 'sarcastic'. Renathan laughs at her joke, and then shakes his head. "No, no, what would that say about my teaching!? But look what I found!" He slides the flyer over the counter. Lazare is messily eating cake in the background.

The pair talk about it for a bit, and then Renathan calls Mira from the back. The half rabbit mammalian, half llama ungulate steps out from around the corner in the back, where she was wiping dust off of her fingers using a cloth. Geri grins at Mira and Renathan says- "Would you want to help with this evening's catering? We'll be going out to help the Astronomer's Association check out a comet that should be appearing this evening." Of course Mira was super excited, even though it was her day to be working at the forge. She really loved stars, if Renathan remembered correctly. He took a step back as the two excitedly babbled about it. He figured that it would be a popular idea among his current pair of apprentices. He often wonders where his old apprentices went off to. Lots of adventure, he was sure.
After a while, someone notices Lazare behind Renathan, and everyone turns to look at him.

Renathan's facial expression changes to one of confusion beneath his mask, and then suddenly, he remembers that he had brought Lazare along with him. He turns around, and notices that Lazare had gotten cake absolutely -everywhere-! There was cake on the floor, and smeared on a nearby chair, and on two tables somehow, and he was still trying to lick the remaining icing from off of his chops. The mammalian blinked in surprise, and then shook his head. "Well, looks like I need to do some cleaning!" Renathan said. He took Lazare back to clean him off in the kennels where he used to keep the orbaru crosses at night (honestly, that had been a bad idea) and got the cake off of his paws and face. Then, he went back to clean off the tables and chairs. Then, the floor was cleaned. He wasn't about to push that off on his poor apprentices.

After the cleaning was done, Renathan got to work helping his apprentices choose what to bring out to the comet viewing, and how they were going to do this. He went to the back and produced some of the boxes that he hadn't seen in a while, and pulled out some white parasols. At this, he spent the next hour painting three of them in a really nice starry pattern, and then he made sure that they would dry properly using some of his machinery (he'd bought machinery not too long ago that would help him paint table-cloths for certain holidays). At this, he helped taste-test a few drinks until they found a coffee that tasted like a mixture of coffee, a rare and peppery cool mint, and cinnamon. It reminded him of the mystery of a comet, and he could taste the cold tail of the comet in it. Lazare, thankfully, did not eat any more cakes, and seemed full.

After deciding the other flavors that they would bring (including a few of the autumn favorites, since autumn was quickly approaching) and deciding to also bring donuts as a secondary aspect, all of the individuals got to work getting things cooked up and packaged for the work. Renathan made sure that everything was all together and perfect. During this time period, Lazare was resting for the majority of the time on one of the orbaru-cross couches. He had tried to go through a few of the tunnels in the shop, but he was so big! Lazare wasn't bored, however, he was enjoying being in a new area.
Soon enough, they were all done, and ready to head out to start getting set up on the hill that the Astronomer's Association had in their sights for the area to set up their equipment. They already had an observatory nearby, but it was neat that the area would be opened up to the public.

The trio packed up everything and then started on their way, with Renathan leading Lazare along with them. Lazare was used to these people, at least, and orbaru were always a little bit dopey, so he wasn't much of a danger to them. Renathan was planning on getting back home by three in the morning, which was a full three hours before he had done the spell with Auburn to let him be away from her, so he wasn't worried about her either. As long as he made sure to get back home in time, it was never really a bother.
The evening light was shining over the tops of the trees, not really all that close to night yet. They still had an hour and a half to continue working before the sunlight dipped below the horizon. The tree line at the bottom of the hill was fairly tall, at that.

There were already a few people milling around, but Renathan was looking for the Astronomer's Association members. He catches sight of a starry bow, and turns to let his apprentices know what he was doing. Geri decides where to set up the tables for best effect. Mira decided to help her by putting up the signs that they had brought. Renathan takes Lazare with him as he walks over to where he saw the Astronomers setting up. He raises a hand, waving, and lets them know what he was doing. "Hey, I decided I'd cater for free, this evening. The Catseye, with your permission, will be offering coffees and donuts." Renathan smiled beneath his mask- "Oh, and do y'all need help setting anything up?" He asked, wanting to be of any help possible.
This was an excellent opportunity for all of them, of course. Renathan goes to help set up the few things he knows how.

The russet mammalian wasn't a scientist, but he could certainly help out by setting up the tents and such. After he was done setting up what he could, he woke Lazare up from where he had taken a short nap on the warm grass, and the pair went back to where Renathan's apprentices had already set up their rather easy to set up display. "Sorry I didn't help out, the Astronomer's Association also needed help." Mira and Geri take knowing looks at one another (that confuses Renathan of course, who was still not great at facial expressions) but he looks over the display anyway. The main table was covered, with the bottom shelf holding the donuts in a warmed area. The coffee was kept on burners that they had set up that were just the right temperature, and they had more to make later.
The tables had their parasols set up, and Renathan just knew that the glow in the dark paint would look amazing under the stars.

Business was slow as the sun slowly dipped below the treeline. Renathan had expected that. Lazare slept in the sun-warmed grass as the shadows grew longer and began climbing the tallest hill in town. Renathan was not at all surprised whenever they got their first customer when it was nearly dark out, and the sliver of the crescent moon could be seen against the darkening sky. He knew that people wouldn't start wanting or needing coffee until they starting hitting or getting near their usual bedtimes. Geri ran the counter, while Mira cleaned the tables. Renathan was going to hop in whenever it got busy to help whichever person needed help more at the time. Lazare lazily sat in the grass and ate fruit that one of the trio threw him whenever there was a lull in people coming to the stand.
Tonight was going to be an excellent night for the business, Renathan just knew it.
