Dodge had been staying put before that, confused, but when Kadin said the words and made the gesture in front of him he started crawling forward, too. "Good, Dodge! Good job!" Kadin said, giving him a treat.
"Miles, Hit the deck!" He said again, gesturing for Miles to join them. This time, Miles did crawl forward, tail waving in the air at this fun game they were doing. "Good, Miles! Good job!" And Kadin gave him a treat, too, for a job well down. Now that he was down in the dirt already, Kadin didn't have any trouble asking them to "Hit the deck!" And crawl with him some more. They crawled around pumpkins, they crawling around gourds, Kadin laughing and the pups yipping and wiggling around in the dirt. Gods. He'd need to give them both baths after this, but he was pleased that they were at least having so much fun with it.
"Hit the deck!" He kept repeating, practicing with them until he was starting to feel some strain in his own arms from crawling around so much. "Alright, good pups, good job. Geez. Maybe we should stop and sit for a bit, huh? That was a lot of crawling around."

After spending so long on the ground, Kadin figured it was time that they spend a little time standing up. He thought about stuff he could train them. They already knew how to follow him. How to come, how to stay. How to even crawl around with him on the ground. Maybe he could think of something for their boundless energy, too.
"Alright, kids." Kadin said, looking down at the pups. "You'll like this one." He clipped the leashes back on them and started to jog slowly. "Go go go!" He told the puppies, watching them react in excitement to the energy in his voice. He ran along the paths between the pumpkins, the puppies easily keeping up pace. In their excitement, they started to run a bit ahead of him. "Good! Good job! Go go go!" Kadin encouraged, happy that they were getting the hang of it so quickly. He laughed while they ran together, sort of enjoying the exercise with his legs after his arms had taken such a beating on the ground. He watched the pups, shouting encouragement as they ran along with him and a little bit ahead, having some honest fun after a long day here.

Of course, not all good things could last. The pups got so excited by running around like this, they started yipping and pulling towards each other, playfully nipping at each other's ears and legs. Immediately, Kadin stopped, pulling them to a stop, too.
"Dodge, Miles, sit." He told them, watching them comply. He was going to try to get them to understand that having fun and running could only happen if they were racing against each other and him. He didn't want any goofing off while they were doing this, it would defeat the whole purpose of the thing. Once they'd settled down, he said "go go go!" And started jogging again.
Thrilled, the pups started jogging with him. But this time, they almost immediately went for each other, over excited and eager to play. Kadin stopped again. This was going to be more difficult than he thought. He waited for them to stop playing around, watching them quietly. Then, "Dodge, Miles, Sit."
Eventually, they settled down into their sits and looked at him expectantly, as if they had done nothing wrong. Kadin vaguely wondered how many false starts they would go through before they got this one down for good.

Kadin started jogging again, more slowly this time. "go go go!" He told the pups. They started running, too, right next to him and a bit ahead. He wasn't having them go at more than a trot this time, worried about them getting too excited, but he kept praising them all the while. "Good! Good boys!" After they jogged for about ten feet, he stopped them for treats and to give them a bit of a break. He probably bit off more than he could chew in the beginning with this one. Best to take it slow now.
"Go go go!" He encouraged, jogging again and repeating the process. He had them trot forward slowly around ten feet, encouraging them all the while, before stopping and praising them and giving them treats. He repeated this about five more times to get them used to it, just trotting next to him without getting to excited. The last thing he wanted them to do was run in front of him, run into each other, and get all tangled up. So he kept practicing. He picked up the pace a little after about 5 times with no problems. The moment he did, they started to get excited again.

So he told them to sit, calm down, and then tried again. "go go go!" He had them run forward slowly a few more times, stopping to praise them for doing well. Then he started to pick up the pace just a little. This time there were no problems, but he still stopped about every ten feet to give them treats and let them know they were doing well while they were running next to him. They were at a fast trot now. He had them practice that with no mistakes about five more times before he'd think about trying again. But all the immediate stopping once they messed up was started to catch on.
Soon they were able to move on to a slow run. Still technically a job for Kadin, but the puppies were running. They yipped in excitement a few times, but now they were getting more and more focused on running so they weren't trying to go at each other anymore. Kadin was relieved about that, it had been frustrating when they had to keep stopping because they couldn't help themselves from getting tangled just because they go overly excited. He hoped he'd be able to go off leash soon.

Soon they were moving from a slow run to a faster run. Kadin kept them practicing, telling them to "go go go!" before taking off at a run, having the run for longer distances before stopping to praise them. He repeated the faster run for a while longer, at least a dozen times. He was starting to get tired by now, but the pups were picking it all up fast enough, he was pleased. He figured that if they were going to try this off leash, now was better than never.
First he let Miles off. "Go go go!" Kadin said, taking off at a run. Dodge still ran by his side, but now Miles was loose. He was confused! He started running after them, then he caught up, but he wasn't sure what else to do, he was used to running by Kadin. "Go go go!" Kadin encouraged, going faster. Dodge yipped happily, straining at the leash. That seemed to be what decided it for Miles. He wasn't on a leash! He raced a head, running in front of them both, which made Dodge strain all the harder. "Good! Good Miles!" Kadin encouraged, racing after the pup for a couple of minutes before he had to stop.

After a quick breather, it was Dodge's turn. Kadin hooked Miles back up and unclipped Dodge. The moment he said "go go go!" Dodge was off like a shot, leaving Kadin and Miles struggling to keep up behind him. Kadin had forgotten how much Dodge loved to run. And, what's more, he loved to run in front of both him and Miles. Still, Kadin gave him his couple minutes of running time, praising him for racing ahead, before he had to stop to catch his breath. He was getting really fucking tired now and could used a God Damn Break. He called both pups to him and unhooked them. Now this was going to be a sight to see.
"Go go go!" Kadin called, jogging forward a few steps. With a yip of excitement, both of them were off, running hard. Kadin jogged forward a few more steps then stopped, watching them. They eventually seemed to notice that he wasn't with them and started to slow down a bit, confused, but Kadin shouted "go go go!" and they started to pick up speed again. Yeah. This was a good idea. He was just going to let them race until they were tired, then they were all going to take a break.

Kadin watched the pups run around for a while. He found a nice large pumpkin to sit on to watch them, even. They had so much god damn energy, even after all that training. There was nothing to do but wait for them to run themselves out. While he was waiting, he looked through his backpack, humming to himself while he examined all his loot. He still wondered what to do with all these damn eyeballs. That'd probably be the first thing he tried to find out when they left. Plus, what to do with all these pocketpets. He already had so many of them at home! He wasn't sure what he was going to do with more. Eventually, the sounds of fast paw steps drew his attention. He watched the pups race over to him, tongues hanging out of their mouths. They seemed to make the collective decision to come back, both of them immediately falling over the moment they reached him, just panting and trying to get their breath back. Kadin laughed at them, but not unkindly. They had been doing a lot of work and then just ran around a LOT. They all earned a nice break before trying anything else.

Well, Kadin was back at the mansion and with an entirely different line up of pets this time. Instead of two pups, he was bringing along a sarane and a... uh. Equillion. Now, he didn't not remember any such creature as an equillion before. He was absolutely certain he hadn't had one. All of the pets who acted like he was so familiar to them didn't really seem to interact with the equillion in his kennel. But he needed a creature that gave off a certain aura for this next pet of his training, so he needed an equillion that gave off the aura. And this one in particular seemed like it would work just find since it was fairly small and not intimidating to begin with. Not that you'd be able to convince Chiara of that, from the way she looked at the other pet as if it was going to chew her up and not do her the courtesy of spitting out her bones. Kadin sighed. This was going to be a lot of work getting her used to the little pony he was leading around. He couldn't even get Chiara to walk with him, he had to pick her up.

Chiara did NOT like this. She did NOT like being here with the pony. It looked small and innocent when you first saw it, but she could tell there was something... off about it. Maybe it was the wings. Maybe it was the colors. No matter what it was, she REALLY did not like it and she didn't want it to be here. When the human leaned down to pick her up, she dug her claws into his clothes and whined at him, wanting him to see that this was a bad idea. He shouldn't have brought it here. She didn't want it here! It was scary! Even if it had a bridle on. Even if Kadin was keeping his body between them. She did NOT trust it not to hurt her in some way. She did NOT think this was a good idea. Not that the human would listen to her at all. She hissed in displeasure when he didn't immediately understand what she was trying to convey and just kept walking through some trees that smelled full. Like herbivore food. It made her sneeze. He kept walking WITH the pony, not getting ride of it like she wanted him to. It wasn't FAIR.

Kadin winced while Chiara dug her claws into his arms, but he didn't stop walking. He lead Trintos to a quiet spot, out of the way of the entrance and hopefully somewhere no one would come across them. He tied the equillion to a branch near a bunch of falling apples. Here was the plan. Chiara had to learn not to get intimidated by creatures that just so happened to have that aura about them. Trintos had that aura. Kadin could just have Trintos over here, away from them, and work with Chiara to get her over her fear by distracting her with other stuff. The plan was fool proof! Kadin didn't think anything could go wrong. Famous last words, right? So, he tied Trintos to one spot and let him get on with eating apples as much as he wanted. Kadin then walked a little distance away with Chiara. He totally noticed that the further they walked away, the more she did seem to relax, which was a relief. He didn't want to become a human pin cushion just to get her over this fear of anything 'scary'. So Kadin brought her about twenty feet away and figured this spot was as good as any.

Then he tried to put her down. Chiara *hissed* and growled and generally was not into this idea of being on the ground at aLL. Being on the ground was being closer to that THING and it could get to her with its hooves and- oh. Wait. It was all the way over there? She popped her head up and squinted suspiciously at Trintos who had taken to munching on some apples, perfectly content. He didn't LOOK like he was evil from this distance, but she still had the faint feeling that there was just something... wrong about him. Chiara hissed to herself, wings bunching up and spreading just slightly to try and make herself bigger. She didn't LIKE this. Even if he was all the way over there he was still bigger than she was, even if she was growing. Kadin could barely hold her now with how big she was growing! But that pony over there was still bigger and something about him just seemed dangerous to her. So she clung to Kadin's arms when he tried to put her down, growling and biting at him when he tried to be more insistent. She didn't set him on fire, but it was a near thing.

Kadin cursed to himself while he struggled with Chiara. He didn't see what the fuck the big deal was! They weren't even NEAR Trintos anymore, but she was still acting like he was actively killing her when he tried to put her on the ground. She didn't even LIKE to be held, usually, and now she was acting as if she literally never wanted to be anywhere else. Plus? She wasn't wrong. She was getting MUCH too big for this and he honestly didn't want to keep carrying her around! It was to much! With some more cursing and grumbling under his breath, Kadin eventually realized that he wouldn't be winning this fight, much to his own anger. With more muttered curses, he walked a few more feet away and tried to put her down again. When THAT didn't work, he had to walk a few more feet away. He was seriously starting to hate the distance he needed to get from Trintos. If anything came here to bother them, he wouldn't be able to get back over there quickly. But even though Chiara was being an absolute pill, she still needed to be comfortable for this whole thing to work, so she was calling the shots.

Chiara did NOT want to be put down! Kadin walked away more, but she STILL did not want to be put down! He kept just going a few feet and then trying AGAIN and she was over it! This was not going to happen! She didn't WANT to be on the ground where something could easily step on her and he would just have to deal with it! Kadin kept walking and trying to put her down. Eventually, he turned around so she'd HAVE to face Trintos and tried to put her down that way, so she could see how far away they were. They got to about fifty feet away before she FINALLY stopped gripping his arms with both claws and teeth as if she'd tear him apart of he let go. Finally, FINALLY she let herself be put down. They were finally at a distance that she felt as if she could climb him easily enough if the equillion tried to come over here. She did NOT want the equillion to come over here! But at this distance, at least she'd be safe enough. He wouldn't be able to get to them easily, he'd have to run really fast to get here before she climbed Kadin.
