The houluh didn't even need to worry about any of this. It was more than happy to keep going wherver it wanted to, no leashes or anything else to hold it still. It only wanted to run and no nothing else, that was all it was happy doing. It wanted to run all over the place! But as it kept going, running all here and there, even a houluh tended to lose energy after a while. It was young and couldn't keep up with its own pace after a while, it just wanted to keep going and going and going! But th emore it went the sooner it was going to get tired. It started to slow down a little bit, dragging its paws slowly after a while, it running off getting more and more slow over time went on. It wanted to keep running but its runs turned into trots, still trying to track ALL the smells, but not able to keep running after them. HE also wanted to keep going, but all the trotted had to start stopping to walks instead. It huffed and started dragging its feet, time and time again, trying to go after the smells but slowing down more and more as time went on. It really was getting tired over time, it wanted to keep going but the mind was keen and the body was week. eventually it had to slow down enough to actually drag its feet and sit down for a little while.

It was just too tired to keep going with the same pace! Eventually it slowed down so much that even the runner was able to catch up with it. The runner had looked as if it really wanted to catch the houluh all of htis time so Kadin stood nearby, ready to intercept if he needed to and things got out of hand at all. But as it turns out he didn't need to worry that much. The houluh slowed down and the runner caught up but it didn't bite it at all. Instead it just came up tot he houluh's side and looked around. It looked to see if anything was going around and coudln't see anything that would make the houluh stop so it didn't worry about it too much. Instead it was looking at the houluh, wondering what was wrong with ti that made it stop. It wanted to keep going but it looked like the houluh didn't want it. It wanted to keep running but it didn't have anything to chase with the houluh not going as fast anymore. It was upset about this! It whined a little big and got a bit closer and then further away again but there wasn't anything that could make the houluh not tired anymore. The runner stared for a little while but there wasn't anything it could do about it to make the houluh start to run again so it just shuffled its feet around as if it were waiting.

Make sure they don't eat this. Just in case.

The runner wanted something interesting to happen, but unfortunately there was nothing interesting happening right now.
Kadin finally felt that it was time to work with the sarane on something that he probably should know if he was going to get dominance some day. Unlike the other sarane he'd trained so far, he wanted this one to do something a little different, just for some variety. He was going to try and teach it bash this time. The sarane kept flailing around so much anyway, Kadin felt like it would be easy enough to teach. He put the sarane down on the ground and simply held a toy between it and the houluh, suddenly saying, "Yes! Bash!" And throwing a treat in its face the moment the sarane tried to run right through the toy to get to the houluh. The sarane was confused by this, unsurprisingly, but once it had eaten the treat down it went right back to trying to throw itself at the houluh. Kadin predicted this and had the toy in front of it again in the flash, stopping it and going, "Yes, bash!" Once it flung its body into the toy. Once again, the sarane was brought up short by this, but gulped down the treat without thinking about it too much. It started paying more attention to Kadin after that, now that it was well established that he had good food on him and was willing to give it out. Kadin didn't just give it food for standing around, though.

Eventually, the sarane got bored of waiting for Kadin to give it more food. So it went to fling itself after the houluh again! But, once more, Kadin put the toy in front of it and going, "Yes! Bash!" And giving it a treat the moment it made contact bodily with the toy. Now the sarane was really interested in whatever Kadin was doing. It huffed, turning to stare at Kadin, clearly wanting more treats. Taking a chance, he put the toy down towards the sarane and tapped it against the little guy. "Bash." He said carefully, encouraging it. The sarane huffed again and leaned against the toy. "Good!" Kadin said, offering it a treat. The sarane growled happily as it swallowed down the treat, quickly looking around for more the moment it was eaten up. Kadin put the toy down again on the ground, encouraging the sarane to hit it again with its body. The sarane leaned into the toy once more and, although it wasn't what he was looking for just yet, Kadin figured he could work up to something better. "Yes, bash! Good!" He praised, offering the sarane another treat. He'd repeat this several more times to make sure the sarane had the concept down before he would try to get it to actually add more strength.
The houluh, on the other hand, continued to go wandering around. It was slower now because it was tired, but it wanted to keep wandering around with the runner because it was fun.

The next step was going to be making sure that the sarane understood what the word "bash" meant. Kadin repeated the same thing a couple more times, holding the toy in front of the sarane until it made contact and then praising it and giving it treats for it. Once he saw that it was starting to automatically go for the toy once he showed it to him, it started to add "Bash!" in the moment he put the toy down. Since the sarane was already going for the toy in order to get the treat, it went quickly for the toy once it was placed in front of it as it had been before, thus making it look like it way obeying the command even though Kadin was only on the stage of conditioning it to the command. Once the hatchling made contact, he made sure to praise it and give it treats. Then he repeated it all over again many, many more times. He held the toy in front of the sarane, told it bash, and praised it and gave it treats once it threw itself at the toy. He needed to repeat this over and over again, getting the sarane used to the word, so that it would know to react to it in the future.
The runner tried to catch up with the houluh because it was so much fun to chase and the houluh had slowed down just enough that it actually could! This made it so happy!

Now Kadin needed to offer the word and get the sarane to actually use it on objects other than the toy he brought with him. He practiced a few more times with the toy, telling it back, putting the toy down, and then giving it praise and treats for doing what he wanted it to do. Then he moved on to having the toy in front of a tree, repeating the same process but having the sarane hit the tree at the last minute. The hatchling was confused about this, of course, since Kadin was asking it to do something different. It thought that treats came from hitting the toy! But Kadin kept using that same word that he had been using for hitting the toy on hitting the tree AND the toy now. So the sarane was confused, but Kadin went back over it several more times, until the sarane started to seem to understand what was being asked of it. Kadin would ask it to bash the toy and it would get praise and treats to hitting the toy. Then Kadin would ask it to bash the tree. It tried to go for the toy, but it got no treats! But when it bashed the tree, it DID get treats. So the word applied to more things than just the toy!
The houluh bounced down into a play bow for the running then spun away again, wagging its tail wildly. IT was FRIEND with the runner now, it was having fun!

Now that the sarane seemed to be understanding the word, Kadin needed to work on power. But first he wanted to make sure the sarane had the word down, first. He had it practice with the tree and the toy several more times, going between the two in order to get it used to responding to the word "bash". Once it seemed to have it down, he started to encourage it to hit the toy or tree harder and harder. It was having it bash against just a sapling for now, but since it was a hatchling on the cusp of adulthood he expected it to at least be able to bend the tree. He asked the sarane to bash and praised it when it did, but then he asked it to bash again. He added more emotion and more encouragement into his voice, giving it treats and more praise only when it could hit the tree harder and harder. He wanted the move to be as strong as possible for the pit! He continued to ask the sarane to hit the tree or the toy, alternating between them so it was unpredictable, and only giving it a treat when it was able to match a power level that he felt was appropriate for the move.
The runner didn't know what a play bow was, but it was encouraged by the positive attitude! It continued to chase after the houluh, pleased to do so, and more than happy to chase after it some more.

One sarane down, it was time for Kadin to bring it back home and bring another one out. This one needed to learn the same thing as the last, how to attack, but Kadin needed to approach this one a little differently. Aconite had spent a little more time with Kadin and, therefore, was a little better behaved when it came to trying to eat houluh and runners. Kadin held up a toy to Aconite and gently pressed it against him, saying "Bash!" and giving him a treat. The sarane blinked, confused about whatever the heck was supposed to be happening here, but was happy enough to eat the treat that was offered to him. Kadin repeated it again, holding the toy up to the sarane and pressing it against it. Since sarane naturally tended to, uh. Fight whatever encroached on their personal space, the hatchling growled and tried to push it away. "Good, bash!" Kadin encouraged, giving it another treat for basically doing what he wanted it to do. Aconite really liked this deal. When Kadin held up the toy again and started pushing it towards the hatchling, it eagerly leaned back against it with a thrilled growl. "Good bash!" Kadin said quickly, giving it another treat for its trouble.
It still couldn't catch the houluh because it was slower, but it wanted it! It growled to itself and tried to catch up to the houluh, wanted to play even if its legs were so short that it made it difficult.

Kadin repeated this process several more times, holding the toy up to the sarane and only expecting it to lean into it for a treat. Once it seemed more than eager to apply its body to pushing at the toy, Kadin backed up a little bit so that it would gather more momentum before hitting it. He held up the toy and moved it closer to the sarane to encourage it to hit it, saying "Bash!" The sarane walked up to the toy and leaned against it, just like before. Since this was all Kadin was asking for right now, he praised it and gave it a treat. Then he repeated the process again, trying to get the sarane more into the activity with his voice and his tone. "Bash!" He called, holding up the toy again and wiggling it at the sarane. It walked up and leaned against it again, which he praised and gave it a treat for. He repeated this several more times, making sure that it knew that when the toy was up, it could get a treat for interacting with it. That's all he was asking of the hatchling for now, he wanted to set it up for success rather than failure.
The houluh danced around the runner, even if it was slowing down more and more. It really was getting tired! It had been running around so much at this point, but the runner kept wanting to play and it didn't want to disappoint the little thing.

Now that the sarane seemed to have down walking up to the toy and interacting with it, Kadin wanted to build up its motivation. He held up the toy and did everything the same as before, telling it to "Bash!" and shaking the toy to make it encouraging. But when the sarane was about to touch it, he moved it away again. The sarane huffed and stopped in its tracks, glaring at Kadin for moving the toy again. "Come on, little guy, bash!" Kadin said, tapping the sarane with the toy and then moving the toy away again. The sarane waited a moment to see if it would get a treat, but when no treat was coming it huffed again and moved to try and touch the toy again. Kadin felt that it wasn't putting enough energy into it yet so he moved it away again, "Bash! Come one, bash!" The sarane growled in frustration again. This time, it jumped towards the toy, trying to get at it before Kadin could move it away from it. "Good, good bash!" Kadin encouraged quickly, giving the sarane plenty of treats to encourage it to keep trying just like that. He then went on to repeat the same thing, several more times, trying to get the sarane to put more energy into going after the toy.
The houluh eventually had to take a break. It sat down, panting, and watched the runner finally catch up with it. It wagged its tail, thumping it on the ground.

He continued to try and build up the sarane's enthusiasm, holding out the toy and moving it out of the way whenever he thought that the sarane wasn't putting enough energy into going after it. Once it looked like it was throwing itself at the toy with enthusiasm, Kadin would let it finally bash into it and give it a treat for its effort. He repeated this process for a while longer until he felt as if his hands were starting to get numb from constantly catching a growing sarane. It seemed it was time for him to start practicing with it redirecting its bash to other areas! Kadin put the toy by the base of a tree, pointed at it, and said "Bash!" The sarane started at Kadin. It stared at his hands. It walked over to him and leaned against his legs which was. Very much not what he wanted. Kadin walked over to the tree with the sarane and put a hand on the toy. "Bash!" He encouraged again. This time the sarane growled, stared at Kadin some more, then finally something seemed to click. It hopped over to hit the toy with its body once again, pressing it quickly into the tree. "Good!" Kadin said, relieved, giving him treats and praise.
The runner approached and stared at it, curiously. It poked around the houluh to see if there was anything wrong with it. But it only seemed tired. The runner laid down on its haunches, staring at the houluh.

He continued to try and get the sarane to bash the toy against the tree. Once it started getting treats for it, it started to pick up what he wanted from it much better. "Bash!" He called, watching as the sarane hit against the toy again, pressing it into the tree. "Good!" He said, pleased, offering it more treats. He wanted to focus on increasing the power of the attack, while he was here anyway, and modified his tone of voice and body language to try and get it to hit the toy and the tree all the harder. He also gave more treats the harder the sarane hit the tree, which was really the most effective thing when it came to getting it to attack the tree effectively. "Bash!" He'd call, waiting until the sarane really gave the tree a good whack with its body, and then giving it plenty of treats for doing what he wanted it to do. He continued to repeat this, even trying to get him to back against other trees, too, in order to practicing bending and hitting all sorts of different targets. He continued to practice with it until the sarane seemed to finally have it, bashing against the trees for treats over and over again. It almost looked like it was waiting for the houluh to do something. To get up and move again, probably. Somehow the runner seemed tireless in this regard, while the houluh really just needed a break. It had been running for a LONG time. Once Kadin felt that he was done with the latest training, he figured that it was time for the houluh to get a break by bringing the runner out for a bit. Instead he brought out a houluh that would be more to the other houluh's speed, figuring that having another creature around that was of the same species would be easier for it to hang out with than a runner that never seemed to get tired. He wasn't sure if it would really be a good solution since the houluh would be fresh while the other one was still tired, but he still make sure to give them all a nice break before heading back out to the gardens again. Once they were there the houluh could spend time all over the place or be lazy however much they wanted to, Kadin didn't mind what happened and was fine with whatever they wanted to do. Right now his main concern was yet another sarane that he had with him that he needed to spend time with and then train a little bit, just like the others. This one was little still, too, so it was easy to handle, or as easy as sarane ever get. Kadin wasn't looking forward to dealing with it when it was larger since these creatures could be a lot more once they were bigger, it could be very difficult to handle them if you didn't do it correctly. But he was experience by now and know what to do.
