It had been a long while since Morgan had went out with Waar. Of course, this was for practical reasons. Waar was a lot of things, and none of those things were popular with random folks walking down the street innocently during their day. Waar was a drake, and an undead one at that- for one. Both of those things were offputting- Let alone the fact that he was sentient! Morgan loved him though, in a way that was difficult to explain- they could remember the little baby that he once was... The one that hatched for them.
Morgan had intended to take Waar out for training, but they wound up walking past the quest board on the way there- and boy was that quest board overflowing with quests! Morgan usually only had time to take one a month, but it was too tempting for them to look over the quests to see if there was anything that might be suitable for them. At least there was no one around at the moment!

Waar seemed to be enjoying stretching his wings, though he was typically a grump and this moment was certainly no exception to that general rule. "Welp Waar, it looks like we might be m-making a bit of a detour." Morgan says, grinning at him in an almost uncharacteristically sunny manner. Waar notices this, and squints his eyes in suspicion. A noncommittal grunt effectively tumbles out of the collar of speech- causing Morgan to chuckle. It was quite funny to them that he had a collar of speech and mostly still managed to make completely innocuous noises through it instead of speaking his mind.
Morgan walks over to the quest board and rubs their chin as they read a few. There were a lot asking for help in their gardens, and honestly Morgan was so tired that they really didn't find being up to their elbows in dirt to be something they wanted to do all that much!

Morgan sighed and tilted their head so that they could look up into Waar's face without having to move too much. He was so much taller than them that it was somewhat laughable. "What do ya think Waar, w-w-wanna go gardening?" Morgan asked him. Waar had a somewhat grumpy expression pass between his eyes, and he looks up into the sky instead of into Morgan's eyes. A sigh is emitted from the collar of speech, and then a groan. 'I guess...' He states. 'I have no choice.' The affectless voice does manage to convey the tonality of sarcasm without actually having it. Morgan simply chokes down a laugh, and then looks for more choices. "There a-are so many, but most of 'em are people wanting garden workers. J-just what are we gonna do Waar?" 'Go to the park like you planned.' He deadpans. Morgan shoots him the 'really' look.

"I dunno Waar- I'm just not f-feelin' it." Morgan shrugs, and starts looking through the slips again. It was a good day, sun-shiny and warm. The amount of pollen in the air was rising. It was going to be very annoying very soon, most likely. Even now, Morgan's nose tickled. They rubbed it with the back of their arm, and looked at Waar again. They shrug. "Looks like a b-bust b-buddy." They said, a little disappointedly. "I guess w-we'll go take a flight or something out at the park now that it is w-warm." Just as they turned around, they realized why Waar hadn't quipped back at them- there was someone standing a little ways away. Most people that saw Waar kept a wide berth from him, so they couldn't help but wonder what kind of a stupid person would just... Walk up to a half-rotted corspe monster.

Morgan liked to travel with Waar because people typically left them alone when he was around. It was difficult being such a private 'public' figure, but most people had the sense to stay the heck away from Waar. Morgan crossed their arms over their chest as they turned around, and their expression changed from the abnormally jovial one to the stoic one they kept in true public. Waar sensed his master's unease, but simply stands. It is enough that he stands as he does.
Morgan waits for the other individual to greet them, and realizes quite quickly that the individual is quite odd. A green-haired fae, and an elderly one. They didn't look familiar to Morgan, so they figured that the individual had simply picked them because they were the only one around. Good, they thought- that meant that this person probably doesn't know who they are. It was actually a little bit freeing at this point.

Then, the word-vomit began. Morgan wasn't entirely sure what expression they needed to have, so they kept their expression passionless. 'I need help!' blah blah blah 'think you're up to it?' Up to what exactly? That broke Morgan's patience a bit already. Struggling between saying silent and going 'get on with it!' they finally managed to only look constipated instead. Finally, the green haired old coot finally started to talk in a way that made more sense- Apparently she had a garden on the edge of town (what was it with all the gardens!) and it was over-run with monsters. Morgan couldn't help but perk up a little bit at that- monsters? Now that was super interesting! Morgan could get behind a good monster slaying adventure!
Morgan was sure that they didn't need to bring their weapons- one of the perks of being a chaos elemental. Plus, they had Waar! What could go wrong?

Morgan accepts the quest, but makes sure to mention that they would only accept it IF it was a 'real quest'- none of those people not going through the questing system to save a quick buck. Morgan did want to be paid for this particular job, and honestly the person sounded incredibly shady. It seemed that shady people were often drawn to the quest board, because this was not the first time that Morgan had been approached by such an individual for a quest. Provided it would be worth it, however, Morgan was excited to go. This was just the thing that they were looking for to take the monotony out of the day!
Waar was a little bit concerned about the entire ordeal. His master often had some kind of emotional... Well, problem, for lack of a better word or understanding of it. It was concerning to him that Morgan was excitable- because they often made bad decisions when excitable like this.

Waar's worry expressed itself as grumpiness though, so when Morgan started babbling about plans and heading straight to, from what he was understanding- some kind of garden over-run with dangerous beasts. Of course, he wasn't concerned for his own safety. It was probably part of being a drake to feel as confident as he did. However, his human was squishy and a little bit small even for a human. Lanky, and tiny. He decided that he better keep close just in case something was going to happen that wasn't necessarily good for them. It would be a shame if something happened to his human- then he'd have to find a new home and probably have to hunt for himself... No, it would not do.
Morgan was given the address, and went on their way, absolutely talking poor Waar's ears off. Waar followed at a semi-slow pace, watching Morgan carefully from his vantage point behind.

The walk was a long one. They were quite a distance away from the garden that was true to the Quest Giver's word- just around the outside edge of town according to Morgan's WATT. True to their earlier experiences, people avoided Waar like the plague, walking on the other side of the street to stay away from them. Though the people were indeed staring at them for a good ways on the way around. The human wasn't entirely sure how they felt about this aspect of their life now. They were an immensely private person. They got slightly less excitable and more frustrated on their way to the garden due to this. Though they weren't exactly difficult to frustrate right now.
Waar finds himself a little bored on the walk. He'd much rather fly, himself. He had to watch his human though- and it was hard to do that from so far ahead as he would be if he were flying.

Morgan hadn't really taught Waar how to be ridden at this point. For one, they had a saddle that they had planned to try to cure for the acidic issue that Waar had- but right now they hadn't quite gotten around to it. How much easier would it be to get to this garden if Morgan had been able to just hop on Waar's back? They really needed to get onto that training as soon as possible! "Waar, what do you think?" They asked. A dry noise drops from the collar of speech like a rain drop into a bucket. Morgan frowns a bit. "You know, about t-t-the monsters?" Waar makes a dusty humming noise in response, that sounds a bit tired. Morgan clucks their tongue and shakes their head in response. "I reckon we can t-take em." They said. They really were just going on and on today, huh?

The walk may have been long, but despite Morgan going on and on blabbing, it was pleasant. Waar was slowly beginning to learn what different things that Morgan 'said' meant. It was partially because he'd been practicing while at home what the different sounds that came out of his Collar of Speech even seemed to mean. It was slow going, but he was slowly picking up certain things. He'd been able to guess through Morgan's body language and some of the words what was being stated to him in a sort of roundabout fashion earlier, but sometimes he just missed whatever was being stated to him.
The sun was warm, the sky was clear. Waar lifts up his wings and shakes them out a bit. He kept them close to his body and folded far too often. Oh, how he longed to fly! He felt hungry, though- and he wasn't stupid. He could see the grass wilting a bit as his stomach rumbled.

This wasn't something that Waar had taken the time to speak with Morgan about. Really, it was dangerous- he had put two and two together that perhaps, coming back to life after apparently being dead had cost something that no one had intended- or at least that neither him nor Morgan had intended. His demise should have been that, and over-with. However, he couldn't really be angry with Morgan because they did go through so much sacrifice and trouble to bring him back. He'd went back and forth on that for months, and finally landed on this idea with a defeated feeling.
They finally round a corner, and the road was absolutely deserted. There was a fence along the side of it on either side- and trees so tall that Waar could tell something was WRONG with them. He looks to Morgan with a cautious concern, and clears his throat- a great rumbling noise to catch Morgan's attention.

Morgan had been going on and on about a new idea that they'd had recently for an experiment whenever they heard Waar's rumbled noise. What? They turned around pretty quick, suddenly silent, to look at him. He simply looks at Morgan for a moment, and then forward. Morgan glances around, and then follows his gaze. Oh- yeah, they guessed that they were near the place now! Something about the surrounding 'gardens' on either side of the road felt foreboding. It was as if all of the trees were leaned down at the tops, looking down at the both of them. Morgan regards this with hard and cold curiosity that was peppered with distrust.
Waar was practically mirroring Morgan's thoughts, casing a ripped wing protectively over Morgan's shoulder on one side, growling towards something Morgan did not see that must have been in the treeline.
"W-we should get going." Morgan says, moving along. "The gate should be up t-this way."

Waar knew that his human was smart. However, he sometimes doubted Morgan's ability to make sound future plans, and this was no different. He watched with glowing green eyes as Morgan moved forward, out from underneath his protective wing. He tears his eyes away from the human for just a moment, to look up at the ghastly trees with suspicion- even in the broad daylight they were spooky. He then moves on, moving a bit double to catch up with Morgan.
The rest of the walk is much shorter and quieter. Morgan stopped blabbing so much to keep an eye on their surroundings. Obviously, somethin was out there. They had been warned about monsters- but they had somewhat doubted the veracity of the severity of that statement. Morgan did know that Waar was worried though- and that meant that they should be on the lookout too. Waar was not normally like this.

Morgan stands, finally, at the gate of the garden that was indicated as the correct address according to Morgan's WATT. It certainly looked the part of 'crazed garden magical scientist accidentallied a bad thing', which was what Morgan (being a crazed magical scientist theirself perhaps) had sort of guessed was going on based on the way the individual was talking. The trees that had been so foreboding earlier were even more so now. They were dark and seemed to glare at Morgan without eyes. It was certainly intimidating. They whistled low, and tilted their head slightly to try to get a better look beyond them. Alas, it was difficult to see through the thick boughs and branches.
The gate itself was twisted and dark, rusted in areas. It looked like it had not been maintained, but still managed to stand resolute against the encroaching wildmass beyond it's posts. Morgan gathers theirself for a moment.
