This was not his idea of a good time. It wasn't like he hated meeting new people or anything, but meeting up with a stranger for a date that he didn't even really agree to... well it was going to be interesting, for sure. It's not like he could have refused, either. They would absolutely never let him forget it if he did. The river bank was a nice setting for such a thing, though, he had to admit. It was looking full and lively as the wet season settled in. Most of his family had an affinity for the water, but he didn't understand what all of the fuss was about. Fish were fun and all, but he just didn't have that genetic tie to the sea that the Clan of Thalassa had. He would personally much rather be up high in the clifftops, but this was probably a better place for a first... meeting. Tytal stretched as far as he could manage, then plopped down into the soft grass at the edge of the river. He found himself more and more nervous as time ticked away and he began to expect her to arrive. What would she look like? Who would she be? Would she like him? He hated to admit that he cared so much.

The predicament she'd found herself in was... interesting, to say the least. While she was one of the older draconic in her canyon, there were many draconic around who, despite being supposedly much more intelligent than she was, had very weird definitions of "fun". And "good ideas". And "things to do that aren't being in a cave all day." She snorted delicately to herself as she thought about the small hoard of flame-colored draconic, all able to breathe fire in some way and completely stupid with it, convincing her that going out and about and meeting someone on a "date" was a "good use of her time" and a "productive evening." She sighed. Foggy mist floated up in front of her face. She stared at it for a moment, silently, before returning to carefully picking her way down some rocky ledges and towards the sands and, soon, the beach she was supposed to be meeting someone at. She could even see him, flashes of green and pink off in the distance, and she took a short moment in her walk to stop and look at him for a moment. So this was her blind date. With another sigh, she finally jumped the last short hop down onto the sands and stared over towards him, lifting her wings in a wave as she called out, "Hello there! Are you Tytal?" She just really hoped that he wouldn't mind that this had not been her idea at all.

What was the worst thing that could happen if she didn't like him? His life would just return to normal, wouldn't it? Why, then, was he so worried? He began watching the water swirl around a small rock in the shallow part of the river. For a moment, he could forget about his problem and watch as the water pushed against the stone. This must be why the rest of his family loved the water so much. It was soothing, he was willing to admit.
Then came a voice, and it knew his name. The sound of it made his fur jump up. Somehow he hadn't been expecting it, even though it was what he was waiting for. What an idiot, he thought of himself. With an undignified twitch, he pulled himself to his feet and settled his wings at his side. He ducked his head in what was probably an entirely-too-formal bow.
"Why yes, I am, uh, Tytal that is." Had they told him her name? Well, regardless of whether they did not not, he couldn't remember, so it didn't matter.
"It's nice to meet you," he said with a crooked grin.

Oh, he was quite different than the others in her canyon, wasn't he? As she approached, she carefully studied the greens and pinks that made up his coloration. She could see where the green came from, of course, but she wondered a bit where the pink was from. Figuring that it might be a bit impolite to start asking about his lineage the moment they met, she shook herself out of idle musings to sit down carefully on the sand a short distance away, close enough to encourage conversation, but not too close that she appeared too forward, she hoped.
"A please." She replied with a slight dip of her own head, a small smile forming at the bow and the grin. Regardless of where his colors from, they suited him, she decided. "I'm Myst," She offered, just in case. "And I have a confession to make." Now she ducked her head low, looking around as if she was worried that there might be prying eyes or ears somewhere nearby. "This wasn't my idea in the slightest. Just this morning I was only given your name and this location and shooed out the door!"
She lifted her head back up, still smiling, while internally she was hoping desperately she hadn't just made a big mistake by confessing her "secret". Hopefully he hadn't come here with... expectations of her. It was more important that she set her own position straight than sparing his feelings if going on a date with a stranger had been his idea.

This was it. She was about to confess that she actually hated him. They had known each other for two whole seconds, but he had already made a food of himself. Of course he did. These were the kinds of thoughts that flashed through his mind in the brief second between her saying the word 'confession' and the actual thing she wanted to confess coming out. He blinked as if very confused for a second, then finally responded.
"Oh! Uh, it wasn't my idea, either..." Had they both been tricked into this by their loving kin? Seemed like it. That actually made him feel a lot better. It was like some of the pressure had been lifted from the air. If they were both there against their will, well that wasn't ideal, but neither of them would have great expectations at least.
"Well, that's okay," he said calmly. He got the sense that she might need reassuring. "You know, since we're both here, we might as well give it a shot, don't you think?" Did he really want to do that, or did he just want to make her feel better? Also if his family found out he had walked away from the date without giving it a chance, they would never let him hear the end of it. He really hoped she would say yes.

He looked nervous, but then he looked like he relaxed. At his words, she felt tension draining out of her wings that she hadn't known she'd been carrying. She gave him a grateful smile, happy for his assurances as well as his suggestions. He was really being very kind and she couldn't help but agree, too.
"Thank you." She dipped her head again, lower this time, to show her thanks. "I'm glad I'm not the only one!" Her tail flicked back and forth behind herself as she thought, tilting her head to one side to say, "Yes, I think you're right. I'm sure if we left too soon someone would have something to say about it, too. I wouldn't mind spending some time with you, just for something different."
She looked around where they sat, surveying the land and river as it lazily snaked its way through the canyons. She'd never been swimming herself, but she had members of her canyon who seemed to like it well enough. Looking around for something to talk about next, she figured it was her best option. "Why here, do you know? Other than it being such a pretty spot."

Well she didn't seem to think that he was the world's biggest idiot for admitting that this wasn't his idea, so he was ready to roll with it. They could spend a little time together, explore the river or something, then go back home. Too easy. Well, nothing in his life was ever that easy so he had to wonder what was going to happen next.
"Thanks, uh.. I think," he said. He chuckled slightly at his own 'joke'. Was she just settling for hanging out with him because she didn't want to be in trouble? For that matter, was he doing the same? Hard to tell. He'd rather not think about it too hard.
"Well, my... my family, they suggested it. Guess I don't have that many ideas of my own today," he said with another forced chuckle. "They really like the water... my family, except for me, they're all descendant from the Clan of Thalassa, you know? Guess I'm a bit of an odd duck, but the water is nice, isn't it?"

Hmm. He seemed a bit uncomfortable, still. Was it bad of her that it made her feel all the more comfortable to see his discomfort? She didn't feel as if she needed to be as aware of what she was doing or worried about what she'd say if he was already worrying for the both of them. Still, she wouldn't bring any attention to it. She was sure that would just make things worse and now that she agreed to stay here for a little while, all she wanted was for things to be easy.
She was going to enjoy her time outside today, dang it!
"Ahh, that explains it." She said with a knowing smile, looking out over the sparkling waters. "I have a few members of my own family who have a natural affinity to water. It is nice, I do enjoy it. Sand baths are more traditional for most draconic, I think, but there's something to be said for the occasional dip in the river, too. I feel like they complement each other, you know? Scratch different itches." She looked over at him, smiling again, to see if he agreed or not.

Tytal shifted his position and fluttered his wings a bit, causing the sparkling mist to shift around and catch the light. It was something he did when he was thinking, and he was lost in thought for a moment. Now that they were here, well, he clearly didn't have a plan. Everything up to this point had been planned out for him by someone else. What were they to do now? Well, wing it he supposed. That's what he was best at, anyway.
"Well..." he said. His eyes were fixated on the calm river water as he spoke. "We could go fishing. How about it, are you any good at fishing?"
Was he joking or not? It wasn't actually that clear, even to him. It would all depend on her reaction. If she laughed, he would laugh too, or if she wanted to show him her fishing skills, he supposed that would be fine, too. What else did they have to do for the day?

Myst watched him with quiet amusement as he thought. She wasn't regretting the date here, so far. Far from it. It was nice to be able to interact with another draconic, one from outside her own canyon. One she didn't know. And he was just as pretty up close as he was far away, especially now that she could better see how he sparkled on the edges. When he suggested fishing, she tilted her head, a smile spreading across her face as she stood up with an enthusiastic wave of her wings.
"Oh! I've never tried before. Let's give it a shot? I've seen it done!" And with that she was walking towards the water, eyes already sparkling on her search for fish. "Oh! But the water is moving so fast and the sun reflects off it! How will we find them?" She wondered, looking over to him with large, curious eyes before turning back to the water and studying it, as if approaching a problem. She tried lifting her wings and using their shadows over the water, wondering if she could see through it better that way. Does that help?

He was surprised that she was so eager to jump on his suggestion. The truth was, he was not that great at fishing. Though, he might only think that because he was raised by a clan of expert fishers. Either way, he might be able to show her a thing or two, since she had never done it before. If she didn't go fishing, then... what did she eat? Well, he wasn't about to ask, since that seemed weird, and also because she was already running off for the river.
"Oh that's easy," Tytal said. It wasn't that easy, and he knew that, but he also wanted to have some fun. He quickly dunked his head under the water, then pulled it back up again a second later. "You just gotta stick your whole face in," he said. His face was dripping wet and his once proud mane was flopped down. "You can see everything, then you can just, CHOMP, and grab a fish, okay?"
"Go ahead, you try."

Hmm. With her wings over the water it WAS shaded, but it was still hard to see when it was so bright all around them and the water was moving so fast! She looked over when he approached, watching curiously as he shoved his entire face in the water and back out again. She looked away quickly, raising her wing to cover her own face while she tried to stifle her laughter. Gosh! She just hadn't expected him to do that so suddenly! Once she had herself under control, she lowered her wing again and tucked both onto her back, neatly, to stare down at the water with a contemplative expression.
"Well. I suppose it can't be that bad?" She said mostly to herself while staring down into the water. Taking in a deep breath, she prepared herself for the plunge and stuck her face under. Oh! But her eyes were shut tight! She opened them and looked around, eyes wide, but it was so hard to SEE down there! She lifted her head back up out of the water, shaking it hard and probably getting her feathers oh so completely out of order. What a mess. "I couldn't see anything." She said, sounding more contemplative than disappointed, but she still didn't look over at him, a question in her eyes. "Did we scare them away?"

Tytal held his breath and waited to see if she would take the bait. To his surprise, she did it! She plonked her head right into the water just like he did. He stifled a laugh long enough for her to pop back up and slowly hissed out his held breath. "Great try!" he said cheerily with a mischievous grin.
He was just about to tell her that he was only kidding when she asked a question that suggested she actually believed him. Now he felt bad. Perhaps he should actually teach her how to fish? Well that could work, he supposed. "I have another idea," he said. He was looking at a rock on the opposite bank.
"Come with me, I'm sure this'll work." Was he? It was hard to tell with him. Whatever the case, he hunkered down, wiggled his butt, then cleared the entire river in one large leap. He landed on the large rock he had set his eyes on and gracefully spun around. He looked back at Myst expectantly. 'Your turn' said the smirk on his face, though he didn't actually say a word.

She eyed his grin for a moment, but shrugged to herself and instead focused some attention on trying to get her feathers back in order. While she listened to him and paid half attention to his ideas, she carefully tried to smooth down her feather crown, to rather, eh. Mixed success. She looked up, suddenly, when he leapt over the bank, staring across at him with wide eyes that suddenly narrowed in contemplation.
Hmm. Was he daring her?
She sniffed and tossed her head up into the air, getting the last few feathers back in place before moving to stand at the edge of the bank, looking across at him with a thoughtful frown. "We need to be all the way over there...?"
She wished he'd just TOLD her what his plan was! With a sigh, she looked down at the water. She quickly moved into a crouch and leapt into the air, using her wings to flap down HARD and give her some extra height so she could make it across! She still landed in the shallows, but, well. It's not like the water was past her feet, so she was able to land just fine anyway. She let out a silent sigh of relief at that before trotting over to him, a curious look back on her face. "Ok so what's the plan now?"
