This was a bad idea. This is very much a bad idea. Kadin wasn't really sure what happened or what had possessed him to take this commission when he knew that the creatures who he would want to bring with him word some houluh and a harachiu. This was extremely very bad and idea. The whole point of this quest that he was taking was to go into the mines and steal something from the nest of a sarane. He had a feeling that he had done this before. After all he did have two Black Drake's and one black hen that he had found in the mines at one point. Although he only remembered finding one of them and that one that he found was just a baby with no mother at the time. But it stands to reason that at one point he must have fought with a black hen or done something to aquire those other two in the mine. She was after all not his friend she was really an adult when he had gotten her and stop her from the mines because she was a black sarane. Now he wanted to go back and wanted him to steal something else from a sarane. It stands to reason that this was not a good idea. Especially since he knew that he would have two puppies and a teeny tiny fairy person with him. None of the above were any good for fighting an angry dragon thing in the mines.

So he wasn't really sure what he was thinking, he probably wasn't. Regardless Kadin was pretty confident in his own abilities when it came to fighting things that looked like dragons so even though on his brain was trying to make this a really big deal chances were he would probably be able to make it work regardless. Granted it would be dangerous. He would have to do the majority of the actual fighting of the Angry Dragon thing since none of the pets he was bringing would be able to help at all. But at the same time what he was bringing did have a little bit of training behind them that would probably help. Mori for one could see in the dark which would be very useful to make sure that no Angry sarane mother's snuck up on him from behind. Cipher had a lot of training from his previous owner. There is no doubt that that would come in some useful and for you know finding stuff. And then there was Tex. Tex was probably the most useless of the 3 that he was bringing but at the same time Tex knew how to herd things in theory. Maybe if Kadin needed someone to keep the Angry Dragon thing away from him he could just ask Tex to try to herd it away. He's probably just joking to himself right now. There is no way you would actually send a juvenile houluh up against an angry Mother Dragon.

But at the same time he didn't really have any other ideas for how he was going to make this work. Chances were it wasn't going to work anyway. God this is such a bad idea. Mori agrees that it was a bad idea. She was not shy about protesting to say that this seriously was going to be a bad idea. She didn't approve of the idea of bringing these into the mines first of all. Kadin argued back that he had been bringing houluh to the mines for a while now it wasn't like it was something new you've done plenty of houluh training in the mines and they all turned out just fine. Mori was not particularly impressed about this type of argument. Even if you were going to the mines normally like you know you normally did it still wasn't really the same thing as going after a sarane nest. Kadin couldn't help but think that his mining familiar with agree with her there because kunzite was never happy when he brought houluh to the mines. But he wasn't about to stop training them in the mines since it was so convenient since he could get gems at the same time while training them. Still, we're getting off track. Mori did not think this was a good idea she thought that the houluh were too young to rambunctious and more likely to get killed, than they were to actually help on this venture. Kadin didn't disagree with her, actually.

She had some pretty good points about all of the above. But he was still going to bring them because of reasons. Needing to spend more time with them or whatever. Knowing that she wouldn't be able to change his mind or your side, but she was still very upset about this whole thing. Kadin argued that for she was so unhappy she could probably stay behind as well. He wasn't particularly happy about her coming into the mines and he would have to protect her during this just like he had to protect her during the gardening adventures. Which, if I may remind you, was pretty dangerous too. Mori was a bit annoyed by that point, but he did have a point there. She probably should not have gone with him to that gardening quest since it was very dangerous, and she could have easily died several times over while they were doing it. But she still went and it was in the past now so they were going to have to figure out how to tackle this next challenge rather than just arguing with each other the whole time. With Kadin wasn't happy with but you know they were going to figure it out regardless because what else were they going to do. He started off by gathered up all of his normal mining supplies to prepare to go into the mines with these houluh. He wasn't going to bring his mining familiar this time because that would add extra complications.

Considering that his mining familiar was upset when he normally just trained in the mines, Kadin didn’t really want to consider how it would feel if it knew that he was just going down here to look for something other than gems. Not at all. So he decided to leave Kunzite behind since he was going to focus on working with his houluh and Mori and not dying or anything while they were searching the mines for whatever the minor wanted them to find that was apparently supposed to be a sarane. Or a sarane egg. Or something like that.
What they were looking for was an item from the sarane’s nest that it presumably must have either stolen from the miner or he forgot it in the mines and the sarane just picked it up. This was all well and good if it wasn't also super dangerous. Kadin was really not looking forward to fighting an actual adult wild sarane and he made this known while they were making their way to the mines. It wasn’t an amusing prospect, even if they had to just sneak around the sarane and try and avoid a fight, but Kadin didn’t want to complain too much about it. At the end of the day, it was his own choice to come out here so it wasn’t like he’d get much sympathy from Mori or the two houluh (who had no idea what they were even doing to begin with).

Yeah, Mori would not have very much patience for him complaining about his own decisions so he just kept his mouth shut after she made that clear.
For now, he could only do his best to make sure that, while this was going to be extremely dangerous, he worked to make certain aspects about it a bit less dangerous. Such as keeping his houluh on a leash while they were heading into the mines so that they couldn’t run off and get killed by finding the sarane too quickly.
The houluh were both a bit trained, but not extensively trained. They’d at least been on leashes before so they know what was going on with them and didn’t behave as poorly as they could have. Mori was still unimpressed with all of this. As they made their way into the cave she commented that it was his last chance to change his mind and bring something that would actually be useful in a fight instead of a liability like the houluh would undoubtedly be.
Kadin fired back that anything he brought that would be useful in a fight would probably be too big for the mines. They’d be more likely to get stuck and unable to navigate the mines or run away if things got hairy. Plus, he still needed to spend more time with the puppies to build up his bond with them. Knowing from that absolutely idiotic statement that she wouldn't be able to change his mind, she decided not to try.

Instead she huffed and flew further into the mines. Then she could actually see where she was going thanks to her night vision, unlike all of them. She was actually more build for this place than any of her companions. She tried to stay out of the circle of light that Kadin was creating by carrying so many different lamps and light and other means of lighting up the area that it was pretty ridiculous. What, did he think that a wild sarane would be afraid of a little light?
Mori was of the opinion that she would probably find everything that needed to be found (sarane, lost item, all that jazz) before Kadin since he was lit up like the 4th of July and a Christmas party all piled together in some deep, dark, dank mines. She continued to ignore his protests to her going ahead, on account of the danger and how the sarane could see in the dark, too, so her night vision wouldn’t be as much of an advantage as she was banking on it being. Plus this whole expedition was just about finding the missing item, not actually fighting a sarane. All they wanted to do was get their reward and that was not worth risking Mori’s life on. But he sure wouldn’t be able to get her to fall in line with the group. All he could do instead was to focus on getting the houluh in line, tied up to the cart as they were, and haul all of that mining equipment with them.

He didn’t know what they might run into, but he wanted to be prepared. He figured that while they were there they might as well look for some rocks if they were really looking for sarane. They’d be able to stick to the wider tunnels since sarane couldn’t exactly get into the smaller ones, so all of his equipment should fit anyway. Life would have probably been a lot easier if the quest giver had given them clearer instructions of it he’d thought to bring along a houluh who’d know how to track down the things that he was searching for. He still didn’t know what exactly he was even looking for, only that it had been stolen, so if nothing else he was hoping that whatever it was he would be able to find it quickly and just be done with this. But as we all know, it probably wasn’t going to be that easy and he was probably just being too hopeful about things going his way like that. Unfortunately for him, despite his pretty scheduled life and all the things that he could be doing, he was probably going to be stuck doing this quest for the entire day. Kadin contemplated doing some training while they were down here anyway and just wandering around in the mines, not even really minining at all. But at the same time, it didn’t really make much sense to try and get any training down.

Not when the whole point of being down here was potentially trying to fight a sarane. Getting caught up in training would just make them distracted and easier to attack if they did run into the sarane while they were searching. So the whole goal for them being down here was to find the sarane and get out, not get eaten by an angry sarane just because they couldn’t focus on the task at hand. They needed to find it and get out as soon as possible so that he could get his houluh back to safety. To that end, Mori was leading the way using her nightvision in order to spot the best paths through the mines. Kadin was following along with the cart, hauling the mining equipment along since who knows what they might run into. It was always best to be prepared, especially down here with things that could go bump in the night. And then the houluh were leashed into the cart so that they couldn’t get loose and that they would be more easily manageable and unable to get away from Kadin while they were in the mines. This whole procession went through the mines in a manner that would make Kunzite want to melt into the shadows and disappear. It was not conductive to mining in the slightest. It wasn’t conductive to finding gems at ALL. The familiar would likely die of embarrassment if it had been brought along for all of this.

There wasn’t any doubt that it wasn’t really a good idea to bring a mining familiar along for the quest simply because the mining familiar would have been ticked off about the entire situation and probably altered all the sarane in the mines to their presence out of pure spite. Just so that they’d be able to end this whole farce all the faster and get back to what the mines were really for, which was searching out gems. As it was, Kadin did already feel like they were doing just that (alterting everything to where they were) just because the whole procession was so loud, there was so much light being hauled, and so much other things going on. The wagon wasn’t exctly subtle, let me put it that way. Instead of wandering off further from the whole procession so that she could better use her eyes or letting the houluh loose so that they could use the tracking to find anything down here, Mori just stayed up ahead and simply looked for the best paths. Kadin didn’t want any of the houluh off ahead by themselves anyway and Mori didn’t want to be too close to the light or too far away from Kadin just in case something bad were to happen. Plus Kadin had practically blinded himself by bringing so much light. He could see everything that was near himself, but anything off further into the darkness was complete lost to him.

While they were walking along they were able to pick up all kinds of traces of different things around the cart while they were walking along. Kadin could see traces of all kinds of creatures going through the tunnels, but none of them seemed to be the creatures he was looking for. For some place that was supposed to be so obscure and remote there were surprisingly a lot of things that lived down here in the mines. From worms to gem drakes to dragons and sarane, there were all sorts of different things he could see and pick up on while they were here, but still he was looking for a nest that he couldn't find. Even gargoyles lived down here, which he now had first hand experience meeting. He was vaguely wondering what might happen if he ran into any of those creatures while he was down here, but he doubted that it was very likely. They were pretty focused on finding one specific thing. Mori in particular was very focused, but she didn't call out that she had found anything so Kadin just kept trundling along. Then again it was usually when they weren't looking for certain things, that was when they always tended to come out. But at the same time he felt like they probably wouldn't since they are being such a loud and obnoxious procession. With all that they were already doing, chances are nothing would jump out at them since they'd hear him coming from miles away.

So assuming that nothing would jump out at them, that meant that they had to just keep going further and further down the tunnels until something that he'd been searching for would finally show up. Although on the other hand, maybe if they made enough noise and everything avoided them they wouldn't have to end up fighting a dragon before the day was over. Maybe it would just run away and they could get what they were searching for without having to worry about anything! Wouldn't that be great! As long as he didn't have to fight it, no one would potentially die! Man he really wasn't looking forward to having to fight a wild sarane. He had too many basically feral sarane of his own that he had to deal with, he was more than ready for something to just be easy for once and for him to be able to sneak in and get something rather than fighting for it. But instead of all of this worrying, there wasn't much to be done but continuing in the mines with their big procession of carts and other things and all their noise. They'd make it to where they needed to be eventually if they just kept moving. They'd find it eventually. The houluh in particular were always very excited to be down here, heedless of the danger they might face the further they went down here. They were still young, just puppies, really, and they'd eventually be trained more completely.

They didn't know what danger even was, really, when you thought about it. They were still too young and innocent for that. But none of that was a problem considering that Kadin didn't want them to be afraid while they were down here, which they very well could be if they actually knew what Kadin was leading them into with all of this. As it was it was already pretty hard to keep them reined in at all, even with the leash attached to the cart as they continued on down the mines. They kept trying to pull in different directions, clearly wanting to explore all over the place, but Kadin needed to keep them in check so that they didn't accidentally get into any trouble that they wouldn't be able to get themselves out of. At least they were attached to something so they couldn't completely go off on their own. But Kadin needed to focus on keeping them contained while he was trying to keep the cart moving while they were searching for the treasure they needed to find. He needed to make sure they stayed attached to the cart and following it along correctly so he job wasn't even harder than it needed to be. He was also watching the ground for any types of tracks that Mori might have missed, as unlikely as that might be. Kadin did know a thing or two about tracking, after all, even if he couldn't see in the dark like she could.

But as long as they continued down the path he'd chosen they should be ok. Mori didn't say much while they were searching, keeping her attention focused and not trying to pull his attention away from anything he was doing. That was probably a smart thing to do since she was so small and running around down here with dangerous creatures around. Kadin was grateful that she kept along with him and was helping. She was doing great as a forward scout, even if they hadn't found anything yet, it just never hurt to have more sets of eyes on the place while they kept on trucking along. But they kept on just like that, Mori leading the way and keeping an eye out for anything she could see while Kadin was stumbling along behind her with the cart. Until finally it seemed like they were finally finding something, there were some scratch marks on the walls that finally looked like something they needed to find. They had a pretty good understanding of what sarane claw marks looked like on any surface, considering how many sarane they knew, and so once they started to see some claw marks on the stone it was pretty promising. When Kadin finally saw them he went over with the light to take a close look once Mori pointed out where it was. He needed to be sure of what kind of creature had left them, he was pretty done with going off on while goose chases.

And sure enough, it did look like something that had been left behind by what they were looking for. Which was good since Kadin was already getting tired of being down here. He did want to be out by tomorrow instead of having to stay down here for days on end looking for something he wasn't even completely convinced was down here. Mori at least knew what they were looking for so even with these claw marks, she knew what to keep an out out for. She'd alert him if she saw anything and he was more than sure that she wouldn't do any stupid fights without him. And, of course, thanks to her night vision, she was sure to see anything they were looking for well before he did. So they continued on, Mori pointing out any scratches or traces she might have spotted in order for Kadin to come along behind her and examine it more closely. He could see that they were getting closer with every clue they saw. Finally they were on track to find something so that they could get out of this damn mine. Honestly fighting a sarane was becoming more and more of an appealing prospect if Kadin could just get out of here some time before next week. Luckily Mori continued to try and lead them in the right direction, more and more scratches showing up as they continued along. They would eventually come across even more signs, signs of leftovers and food.
