Of course Goran wasn’t the only one who could help her find crystals, but he was certainly a favorite. He was well versed in the mines, having come from there in the first place and all, but she had socketed him with a tainted crystal a long time ago, giving him his soft purple glow that emanated from all parts of his rock like hide. Smiling, she listened for Specter’s breathing, he snored a bit, and she hoped that all would be well. If he stayed sleeping this whole trip, then that would make things a lot easier, and she wondered if she should call for Goran or something to keep her company. No, she didn’t want to endanger the gargoyle, so at the Kennel he would stay, at least for now, though she really did wish he was there. Oh well, it didn’t matter too terribly much, things would stay roughly the same other than anything else at the time. She just hoped they could find some crystals, and glanced at the whelp again through the crack in the door.

Life had an odd way of throwing curves at people, considering how the Sarane species had been sterile for awhile before exploding in being fertile once more. So many of her Hens had thrown clutches, it wasn’t very funny, but at least they only ever had two offspring, that had to do something for her, right? Pushing her hair back, she got into the inside of the mines and then stopped, glancing back at the sleeping Specter. She didn’t want to go too far in, though that was probably better going further in so less people would mess with the things in there, but at the same time, she wanted to stay near the entrance for when Specter grew up and got much more volatile. She had her darts for the Sarane when he grew up all the way and she was strong enough to get him either onto or into the cart, which was always good.

Whatever the case, she had found a small spot near the entrance to the mines to dig in, and she was sure that Specter might help the more he grew bigger, though she wasn’t going to hope for that too much. He was still curled up inside of the cart, but she figured he might get up and inspect what she was doing once she started making noise with the shovel and pickax. Jack pushed a hand through her hair and sighed, she was irritated with herself that she hadn’t brought Goran, but she really didn’t think she had the patience for two animals, even though Goran pretty much took care of himself at this point. He was a good gargoyle, the best, and she wondered what it would be like if it was just them again. That was hard to think of though, and she wasn’t sure what to expect from things with Specter. Hopefully they would find some good things, but she wasn’t going to hope too terribly much for it, lest she get discouraged.

There wasn’t necessarily a ton of time that would elapse before she needed to break the Sarane whelp she had with her, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t do a bit of digging at the same time. She pulled the shovel out of the cart, careful not to wake up or nudge Specter, and then started to dig, trying to make as little noise as possible, but that was hard to do sometimes, she found. Oh well, if he woke up then maybe he would help her to dig a little bit, sometimes they did and sometimes they didn’t, but she wasn’t sure which way Specter would lean. Hopefully he would help her dig and not just sit there looking pretty, but that was possible at the same time. Being related to her line of Black Sarane and to Alexei meant he would probably be a hard worker, she thought, but...

Jack shook her head as she dug, she couldn’t use someone’s family history against them, or for them even. Look at her own life, though she was attempting to walk in her mother’s footsteps, she was really neither of her parents, and she hadn’t known any of her grandparents. Her mother hadn’t been from their city, and her father had been almost old enough to be her grandfather, so it wasn’t surprising that she didn’t know any of them. It was almost a shame, she thought as she looked at Specter through the open cart door, leaning on her shovel, she might have liked to meet them, but if they produced a man like her father, maybe not. It was also too bad that her grandparents on her mother’s side probably didn’t know what happened to her mother, it would have at least been something they should know, right? At least she thought so.

She, at least, would most likely never have kids, not that she necessarily wanted them in the first place. Even though Renathan was physically equipped, she didn’t think he had what they would need in order to have children of their own, and she was fine with that. If they did want a kid or two in the future, she suspected they could adopt one or two, and she smirked a little at the thought. She wasn’t sure what to look for in a kid, could she even keep one alive? Her eyes turned to Specter again and she shrugged, she did decently with animals at least, she had to give herself that much credit. An animal wasn’t a child though, they were a lot different in a lot of ways, and she figured they would cross that bridge if they came to it. It wasn’t something she was looking forward to, but Renathan might, right?

Jack stretched out as she dug away at the floor and looked in the cart at the little sleeping whelp. She wasn't sure what to do with things at the moment, but he already looked a touch bigger to her, and she had a rather weathered eye when it came to Sarane, or at least she thought so. There were so many she had raised over the years she had some it was ridiculous. There wasn't much for her to do right now though except to mine, even though she didn't want to wake him up, but she figured that's why she was using the shovel in the first place. All she could do was keep going and hope that Specter would sleep the whole time, or if he woke up, then hopefully he would help her dig for a little while, at least until he lost control of himself around her.

Well, as long as she found some things and Specter grew, she figured it would be a trip worth taking. Maybe soon she would find something, though she doubted it would be anything good, she rarely found anything good if she didn't have Goran or Grim with her, which was a shame. Stretching out her shoulders and back again, she hoped that things would work out for her. Honestly she wasn't scared of the tier three Drake and what he would grow in to, but that didn't stop them from trying to frighten her at least. Smiling a little, she kept at it with the shovel and shook her head. A quick glance over at Specter showed her he was beginning to stir, and she hoped that everything would be alright. Maybe he really would work on digging with her, they usually did and he certainly had Black Sarane heritage, after all.

Specter was having a wonderful dream, to be told, and he scratched a little in his sleep. As his eyes opened, however, he forgot what the dream was about, they were always fleeting it seemed, which was a shame. Struggling to get to his feet, he then stretched out like a cat and hopped out of the cart, staring at the woman who smiled back at him as she dug into the ground with the shovel. Nothing made sense to him, why were they there in the first place? It didn't matter, he supposed, he liked her well enough for now, but he knew that would probably change the bigger he got and all that. Giving a little shrug, he padded over to her and sniffed at the small hole she was creating, wondering what she was doing for now and if there was an actual point to what she was doing.

Reaching down, she patted him on the head as he wandered over to her and keened a little, a pitiful sound. He must be hungry, as all growing whelps were bound to be. Food and sleep, that's what they usually needed if she thought about it, and a chuckle escaped her as she got some meat treats and scattered them around him. She had some actual food for him a little bit later if he was still hungry, a better raw meal for him to really grow on as time went on. There wasn't much she could do other than to keep him fed and happy for now, but as she started digging again, she watched as he laid down and scooped up the treats with his long tongue. Giving him a smile, she hoped he grew well and she would like how he looked, that was always an issue as time went on, she knew.

A hint of yellow came to her eyes as she looked inside of the hole she was digging. There, finally something was showing itself, though she didn't think she felt any magic around her at all, which was certainly a shame when it all came down to it, but that was fine too. Jack smiled and dug around the stone that was showing itself and then pulled out a citrine. Personally she wasn't a big fan of yellow, but they made for good jewelry if the Workshop ever opened up, and they made for good trading materials as well. Smiling, she put the stone in the cart and patted Specter on his head as she went past him, back to the hole she was digging. Hopefully everything would work out for her, but she didn't know what else to do at the moment. There was digging, of course, but that was getting really old really fast, there had to be something else.

Specter was a funny little thing, laying there as he scooped the treats up with his tongue and pulled them toward him so he could eat. Jack chuckled a little and wondered how she got so lucky with her Sarane, but at the same time wasn't sure what she needed to get done with things. Ah well, he wasn't all that big yet, she had plenty of time to get things done before he got cantankerous. Everything would work out in the end, and that was all she needed for the moment. Jack chewed on her lip a little as she dug into the hole and wondered if there was anything else she would find today, she hoped so, but there was no guarantee at this point, now was there? Of course she was going to be there until Specter grew up all the way, so she had to find something else as well, right?

All she could do was hope the stones would just jump out at her eventually, though she knew that wouldn't happen, even with her magic or anything to help her out. She certainly had her nodes with her, but the magic inside couldn't help her out in the mines, which was a shame, but that was alright. Even if she could use her magic she had a feeling she would do it the hard way, she didn't want to get too soft in life or anything, that would make it easier for the Sarane species to eat her alive, right? Speaking of, Specter had finished up his treats and had curled up on the floor of the mines to snooze again, his belly full and protruding. Jack paused and laughed at him a little, twisting the ring that made it possible for her to speak to Sarane and for them to speak to her, and wondered if she should talk to him.
