> Xentus, accompanied by... No, really, he wasn't lost. He assured himself of that as he gazed upon the expansive field of grass. He.. May not have known his exact location, but he did know where he was. The Everfields. A vast grassland which lay between the city and the wilds beyond. And as far as he was concerned, it was a glorified dog park. A smirk lifted the leopard's muzzle as the thought passed. Alright, that was a little mean to think. But with the whole erupting of those sock puppets he had into a puppies thing, he wasn't entirely sure what to make of this place and the lab it was tied with. Really, there was something rather ominous sounding about "The Black Bones". Maybe the name was only such. Maybe not. But he was guilty of his curiosity which drove him to take up the puppets from there in the frist place. And now he had more dogs to care for. The houluh were already a bit much for him, to the point where he enlisted the aid of a friend to help raise them. A sigh escaped the man as he looked at the two sleeping pups. He.. Supposed he'd take on the task himself this time.

This particular venture was marked as a camping trip of sorts. It was a good excuse to get away from the hubbub of the city, a chance to raise the puppies, and an opportunity to come across some new pets. Ah.. As if he needed more pets! That lab had advertised the release of some interesting specimens in celebration of Via Min Mur, and while the leopard didn't exactly understand this part of city culture, he did find himself interested in the strange animals. What could he say, he enjoyed collecting things. Let it be trinkets or creatures. His personal menagerie was hardly enough to count as a hoarding problem in comparison to some others. And as far as he could tell, this whole animal collecting thing was not an uncommon habit amid the citizens of the city. Now that was a part of the culture there which he could fully immerse himself into. A chuckle now escaped the man. He was doing his best to not feel guilty about his menagerie and his lack of ability to spend time with each individual animal. He'd already accepted the fact that he was going to play favorites and spend time with the ones he favored the most.

Canines weren't exactly his favorite type in all honesty. He just.. Found himself with them somehow. His collection included a pack of vulticus, a rakai, a pair of houluh, and now a pair of ohou. He wouldn't be surprised if he eventually decided that he's take in one of WELP's canines. Thinking it over, the canines of his collection were probably the second-most numerous kind after the dragons. The big, scaly beasts were definitely his favorite. Wiurn, sarane, and the standalone Basantai. Wonderful animals, all of them. Xentus hummed in delight of his own thoughts while staring aimlessly over the field. He could bring Basantai here. At any moment, he could just summon that big pile of scales and fluff to his side and nestle himself into the bulk of fur. That was a delightful thought. Ah.. But then he'd need to take that big lug home somehow. Or if he wanted to have it keep him company here with the pups, he'd need to find some means to feed it.. The leopard solemnly shook his head to dismiss the idea. No, not today at least. Tomorrow? Perhaps. He didn't know how his mood would be swayed from day to day.

For now, he wanted to relax. Breathe in the crisp autumn air of the grassland and do nothing until the pups stirred from their slumber. Xentus laid back into his tent let out a long breath. He supposed had to figure out the details of his plans. The young pups with him weren't exactly of age to do much other than sleep, whine, and eat. They could probably pick up some simple tricks like learning their names. But.. They didn't even have names! He'd dubbed them 'Pup' and 'Pupp'. Not.. The most thrilling designations. Proper names, though. What to name them? Xentus mused on it, mulling it over. His head turned to view the sleeping ohou in the corner of his tent. A male and a female.. Both 'blue' with tan point. The leopard felt particularly uninspired by the sight. Nothing sparked a particular thought or idea for names to give the pups. A frown pulled his lips down as he voiced his displeasure in a hum. One of the pups stirred in their sleep, a quiet whimper sounding in response to the man's disturbance. Oh, no. He didn't want them waking up now. He was just getting used to the quiet of the field..

There was nothing but the occasional chirp of birds and insects, the rustle of grass in the wind, and the sound of his own thoughts barraging his mind. There was a certain kind of peacefulness in this that he didn't even get at home in his quiet cabin. Ah but that was about to change now, wasn't it? And he hadn't even came up with his proper plan for finding creatures out here yet. The leopard half sighed, half shushed as he dragged himself further into the tent to comfort the disturbed puppy.
"There, there, young pup", he cooed gently, placing his hand across the ohou's back, "Cry not.." Of course, the man's words meant nothing to the puppy's distress. More whimpers were spurred from its throat as the little one squirmed and stretched. A yawn disrupted its cries as it clumsily sat up and looked around. The leopard's worried expression was the first thing it saw. Then its sleepy gaze looked down to its littermate, who now was also rousing from its sleep. It whined and whimpered, distressed from awakening. Or perhaps from hunger. Or both. Xentus softened his gaze and reminded himself that this was his life now, until the pups grew a little older.

As far as he knew, the creatures produced by any of the labs did tend to grow fairly quickly. Enjoying their youth was almost optional. Still, the leopard decided to go the route of most care, raising the pups himself and seeing them to adulthood. It was almost like his bout with the golems again, except this time he had animals which had some mind of their own! Not to say that he didn't enjoy the one track mind of the golems; they simply grew to be same-ish, with very little personality or charm on the individual basis. These dogs should grow to have some individual likes, dislikes, tastes, and curiosities.. And he found himself looking forward to seeing such developments.
"Xentus bets you pups are hungry after your slumber, hm?", the man cooed to them, then he shuffled himself toward his pack. He'd brought enough food to camp out for about a week before needing to return to the city, providing ample time to get the young ohou accustomed to him and his care. Breakfast for them would be a mix of nursery milk and dry puppy chow. Admittedly, he wasn't sure if the young ones were old enough to be considered weaned properly.. They didn't exactly have a mother.

If he thought too much about how the ohou emerged from the sock puppets, he'd get a headache. In comparison to what he knew about canines in general, the pups were probably at a weaning stage of their life. Without a mother, he had been simply feeding them nursery milk and calling it good. But they needed to transition into solid food soon. Thankfully, he didn't mind being their mother for the moment. And father too, he supposed. The man chuckled to himself as the milky kibble was mixed and set in a dish just outside the tent. Then he crawled inside to gather his babies, gently scooping up the warm little lumps - one in each hand. Pup and Pupp wiggled and whined in his grasp to protest being snatched from their cozy blanket.
"Shh..", Xentus hushed them, to no avail. Hopefully a little food in their pudgy bellies would calm their cries. He set them down before the dish and watched as the two ohou sniffed at the milky kibble and tentatively began lapping it down with little fuss. A sense of relief washed over the leopard. It was quieter now, aside from the sloppy slushing of the pups eating.

A reprieve from the cries once more. The leopard's gentle gaze lingered upon the young pups for a moment, taking in the colors of their pelts. They'd grow up to be rather beautiful canines. A small smile unseen to them was flashed at the thought. He really did find himself looking forward to raising a fine pair of ohou. The leopard's mind threatened to drag him into a muddle of thoughts, but the gurgled of his stomach spared him. It snapped him back to reality before he was lost, spurring the man to have something to eat. Back to the pack he went, rifling through it until he found a snack bar and a lunch tin with dumplings. After breakfast, he decided it would be time to set out and wander about the Everfields. -- He hadn't really parsed out how he was going to explore around with pups that could hardly walk without stumbling over their own feet. He brought them here in a carrier slung over his shoulder. He.. Guessed he could use that and tote them around some more. The carrier was mostly mesh with a solid bottom, letting the pups see and smell the world around them.

If he found something interesting or wanted to take a break, he could let them out to wander about on their own. He didn't suspect the pups would get very far, so there would hardly be any danger in doing so. The man tossed to head back and forth as he reasoned out his plan, then finally settled on it with a nod. "Alright Pup, Pupp. How about we go for a walk, hm?", he announced, finally breaking the quiet they'd been enjoying after breakfast. The two ohou seemed to perk up at hearing his voice, their bleary eyes taking a look at the man. The male squeaked a reply and clumsily rose onto his feet- only to stumble back down into a sit. Xentus chuckled at the sight. He leaned in to stroke the puppy's back, proud of its efforts. Then the young pudgy pup was scooped up along with its littermate and placed in the carrier. There was a mild protest voiced by the two about being taken away from the patch of grass they'd settled into, but it was nothing a few gentle pats to the head couldn't quiet. They were all set to head off on a little adventure.

While he trudged through the grass, the leopard's mind pondered upon names once again.. He had no real naming convention; he just went with what he thought sounded good on the tongue. And he supposed he favored the 'odd' letters of the alphabet. A name suddenly popped to mind: Xandarr. He nodded to himself, he liked that name for the male. Avaria for the female. Neither name had a particular meaning, he just put some letters together in his mind until he liked it. And he could shorten them to Xan and Ava. A satisfied smile lifted the leopard's lip as he settled on the names. -- Trudging through the grasses finally came to a slow once the man happened upon something interesting; a small patch of pumpkins growing near a pond. The area saw the shade of sparse trees overlooking the water, and the grass was patchy and thin. Seeing it as a good spot for a break, the leopard set down the carrier and opened the front, letting the pups free to explore if they wished. Their owner took the time to forage among the foliage to see if there was anything interesting enough to take. The pumpkins did seem ripe for the taking..

The man wasn't alone in his interest regarding the pumpkins! A gentle munching and crunching just beyond a slight hill and beyond the pond, a lumbering Golossle has its head buried in a pile of orange vegetables. Taking its time to nibble at the outer-layers and nit-pick the gooey insides, it seems this bug has had its fill, and has the patience to pick out some of the better-tasting seeds & strings..!

Some time had passed since the last time the leopard wandered about the Everfields. Really, it felt like some time since he'd last gone venturing into anywhere. An unusual occurrence for the man to find himself stationary for too long; he'd always been one to travel about - unable to become comfortable in any single place. That city, though. It did change him, it seemed. He was attached. To the people he'd met, even if they were but passerbys. To the places he'd been, as there so many sights to see after but a short journey away from home. And, to the creatures he'd collected.. Ah, they kept him tied fast the strongest. His personal menagerie was a wonderful assortment of beasts he'd grown fondly attached to. They were fascinating, granting him an endless subject of study. And so study he did, spending day after day writing in his research journal about his precious pets. Then he'd found the wanderlust came creeping back. As it always does. And so that brings him to the Everfields, out to play with his pups. And by that it meant to study them and write about every little interesting thing he noticed. The two ohou he'd been out here before with, when they were but whelps. The houluh was like an older sibling to the ohou, and (unfortunately) a creature that he didn't find himself spending much time with. Like the promise he'd made to himself to raise the ohou himself, he'd do so with the houluh.

He always hated to admit his negligence with raising the houluh he found himself with. There was much care in the whole breeding and showring thing with them, and he lacked much the attention span to commit to it. And now with the ominously rebranded Blaq Labs announcing hunting tours within the Everfields, he had yet another activity he wanted to partake in yet had no patience for! But, perhaps he could slyly get away with bringing a small pack of pups to train for hunting all at once, then use any particular one where he needed to for whatever activity he chose. A devious plot, he though. And one that may end up working out, should he keep focused. By being cast out far from home, he had no excuse to slink back to his study. No distractions to sway his interests. Just him, his dogs, and the grand expanse of grassland before them. Xentus set up his tent and small collection of personal effects at the base of a lone tree atop a shallow hill. It made for a good watch post for any threats that might be looking to make small, tasty puppies a snack. Thankfully, there shouldn't be anything in the way of beasts roaming about the fields at this time of year, if the fliers from the affiliated laboratory were to be trusted. The last time he was here, he'd befriended a giant spotted golossle (and subsequently brought it home with him, of course). While he was slightly saddened to not have any roaming beasts to distract himself with, he knew it was ultimately for the best - for he and the pups.

With nothing to focus on but the dogs, he'd surely get to grow acquainted with them and raise them to be great hunters! ... Right. A slightly dejected sigh escaped the man's muzzle as the thoughts passed through his mind, eyes set on the trio of dogs playing in the grass. They were young, spirited. Certainly malleable enough to train tricks at this stage of their lives. He could do it. But the prospect seemed awfully long and daunting when the entire plan was drawn out in his head. Teach them hunting guidance, from tracking, to searching, to the actual hunting part.. It didn't seem like much, but that last part would be the most involved. Catching prey (and not becoming the prey) was going to take quite a bit of effort to do in a guided, disciplined manner. The man hardly had a good idea of how to even start. He... Wasn't going to wrack his brain about it too much right now. He couldn't get himself too overwhelmed before even getting started, which a bad habit he had to try to break. Instead, he'd try to relax and get to know his companions a bit better. And come up with a name for the houluh. He wasn't sure why, but he had the oddest inability to come up with names for canines - he hardly could think up of names for the ohou at first. Time, he just needed some time. Xentus remained deep in thought while the pups paid him no mind, too busy wrestling with one another.
