A new day meant a new venture awaited. Xentus was usually good at keeping himself busy, but for a while now, it seemed there was little to do aside from the routine chores. Sure, there was this whole Via Min Mir thing that had a lot of the city getting into festivities, but honestly, it was one part of the city's culture which he hadn't fully grown accustomed to yet. On the way to the breeding center, he'd passed by several houses and storefronts with decorative ornaments out on display, featuring bats, ghosts, skeletons, pumpkins..
"Laku is appropriately colored from this Vin Mur thing, isn't he?", the leopard mused aloud to the houluh walking alongside him. The shaggy dog panted happily at being spoken to, replying to its keeper with a quiet bark. The two posted up outside the breeding facility in the meantime; the leopard keeping himself busy knelt down beside the long haired canine giving it ample pets.

Jack hadn't done much for awhile, she got into funks every now and then and was trying desperately to pull herself out of it. So when she had pulled herself out of the Kennel and seen an ad, well, what better way to force herself to do something, right? The woman pushed a hand through her hair with a little sigh, Magpie trotting next to her, quite excited about what was happening. She was an excitable pup though, and Jack cracked a small smile at her. It was going to be difficult to actually be in a conversation for awhile, but... that was alright as well, she could figure it out.
The door to the Breeding Center was pushed open by her and Magpie pushed her way inside, getting a sigh from the woman. Oh well, it was fine. "Hey there Xentus, how you doing?" the woman asked when she saw him, cracking a little smile.

The houluh wasn't entirely sure why he was getting fawned over at the moment, but he was soaking in every bit of it! The canine's long, silky tail wagged furiously, mimicking the sweeping broom of a maid. The other end of the dog was busy licking its owner's face, which weren't as appreciated as it would've liked. "No kisses Laku!", the man playfully scolded as he tried to pull his head away. There was hardly any escape aside from standing up once again. Ah well, so much for trying to keep his hands busy. The leopard decided it was enough and straightened out - just in time enough to hear the familiar voice calling.
"Ah, Miss Jack!", the leopard piped up as he turned to meet the woman, hastily wiping the slobber from his face, "Greetings my friend. This one fares well; yourself?" While his owner made pleasantries, the black houluh did the same toward the dam, leaning in to sniff at the other canine with a warily wagging tail.

Magpie lifted her tail up and yipped as she trotted toward the Patronne and sniffed at him as well, happy to meet a new friend again! It had been so long since she had been out and about, since any of them had, which was annoying, but hey, she understood the woman had been in a weird place for awhile. Glancing back, she saw the forced smile on the woman's face and then barked happily at the Patronne and nudged up to him a little bit.
"Honestly... been better, but I'm getting there I think," Jack said with a small sigh, giving him a half smile, "It's good to be out and about again though I suppose, can't stay holed away forever right?" Scratching her shoulder, she shrugged and then offered to shake hands, "Glad to have something to do again though, pretty happy to see that ad of yours, though it looks like you've been looking for awhile now."

The wariness was immediately washed away by the dam's excitement, spurring such in return from Laku. His brush-like tail amped up in wagging, streaming like a flag in the wind. The houluh let out a gentle, yet gruff bark as he dropped down into a play-bow, hind end wiggling in the air. He hadn't met another houluh aside from Saku, so this was exciting!
Xentus's face flashed a solemn look, saddened to hear that Jack hadn't been to well it seemed. Hearing her out though, his expression softened into a gentle smile. He took her up on the handshake, giving the back of her hand a reassuring pat with his other. "Well, it is good seeing you again, Miss Jack. Xentus hopes better days come for you soon, starting with today", he told her, genuine in tone, "This one does appreciates your company for this venture; it has been one that was left.. Unanswered for some time yes.."

Magpie pranced around for a moment or two before dropping down as well and nudging forward with a paw toward his. She was pleased, very pleased actually, with what was going on at the moment. It had been awhile since she had met a new Houluh, and she didn't know what else to do with herself really when it all came down to it. He was so fuzzy too it was amazing!
"Thanks Xen," she said sincerely, patting his hand as well before pulling back again and smiling a little wryly at the Houluh. "At least they're getting along well, Magpie loves shiny things, and Laku seems to fit the bill pretty well huh?" she said, tilting her head and moving toward the counter so she could start working on her part of the paperwork. She didn't know if Xentus had done anything yet, but it seemed like he had just gotten there as well.

Ah, just when he was getting to play with his newly made friend, they were getting dragged away. Laku let out a little whimper and tugged on the leash, trying to get Xentus to follow after them. "Patience now, Laku. You will have plenty of time to play, Xentus assures", the man chuckled, looking down to the canine, "He is glad you've taken a liking to the dam-- she seems to like you too" He ruffled the dog's floppy ears, and with that, the leopard trailed after Jack to the counter. He'd almost forgotten about the paperwork involved in this kind of thing. The silky houluh was eager to play, but he was well behaved enough to know when he was allowed to and when he was not. And right now.. He probably wasn't allowed to play. He softly whined as he walked alongside his keeper, dejected eyes trying to convince him to go someplace more fun soon. But the leopard paid the dog no mind as he got to doing his paperwork.

Trotting next to the Patronne, Magpie licked gingerly at his cheek. She wasn't very far away! Her person didn't tend to use leashes after awhile, if she thought she could trust them after they were trained up well enough. It was alright, she trusted them well enough she figured with a little smile, or at least trusted her bond with them as well.
"Magpie's pretty cheerful," she told him with a smile and a nod as she scrawled across a piece of paper on the counter. It was alright, at least she wasn't too out of practice it would seem. Still though, she stifled a sigh as she looked down at the counter, and she didn't know what else to do at the moment. Things were coming back to her pretty easily, even though she was a little out of it at the moment. She didn't know what else to do or say, her mouth was a little dry as she glanced over at Xentus, "Is there anything going on in town?"

The silky houluh perked up at the warm tongue on his cheek, eyes flicking between the woman's back and the dam. Seeing a person leave usually meant any friends left too.. But it seemed the dam had freedom which he did not. Laku looked between the two one more and even gave a short glance at his own leash before dismissing his confusion (and slight embarrassment) with a gruff bark. Part of him was a little jealous, yet part of him knew he was a good boy and didn't mind it much. He wiggled, tapping his paws in a small dance about the matronne, as much as the leash would allow.
"Ah, well there seems to be a stir about this.. Vai Min Mur tradition", Xentus answered, setting his gaze at the carved mini-pumpkin on the counter for a moment, "Admittedly, Xentus does not fully understand this celebration, though he finds it quite amusing. Know much of it?"

Yipping happily, Magpie nuzzled up to him happily, trying to reassure him that it wasn't bad to be on a leash, really, it was for his protection she supposed. Hopefully he wouldn't feel bad about it for too long at least she thought as she tilted her head a little, glancing over at the woman and the furry man.
Jack tapped her chin as she pushed the papers over to the attendant and then leaned against the counter. "It's... about honoring the dead really. Some people twist it to just be spooky or weird, which isn't bad either," she finally told him after thinking, "Honestly it's not a bad idea when it all comes down to it..." Her mother came to mind and she cast her eyes downward thinking about what had happened. Maybe she should get something together for things, there wasn't much to do though, not much more time in the month.

A celebration to honor the dead.. If he'd only seen the decor that people put up, he would have never guessed. Something about spooks and scares seemed far more fitting. But he liked the premise that it was all for something more noble. "Xentus finds it a strange tradition, but the cause is one he finds agreeable", the man mused aloud after giving it a moment of thought, "Perhaps this one will give tribute to his brother.." His voice trailed off, sounding slightly somber. A frown threatened to crest itself upon his muzzle, but a slight smile found its way there instead. "He would have enjoyed the spiced pumpkin drink of this season", he murmured gently with a chuckle. The rustling of paper followed his words as he turned in the documents to the receptionist. Maybe after this, he'd go and have a latte in honor of him. "Well, shall we get the houluh settled into a pen or room, before they get too antsy?", the leopard asked, peering gown at the two energetic canines.

"I know the feeling..." Jack agreed with a small sigh. She appreciated Xentus' smile and she made herself chuckle a bit as well, shaking her head. Being lost in the season did her no good, and she had to remind herself at this point. Her mother wouldn't have wanted that for her after all, and that was really fine by her, she just had to keep trying to do what she could and that was all there was to it, right?
Glancing at the two Houluh who seemed very comfortable around each other already, and with Magpie honestly cozying up to the Patronne at the moment as well, she chuckled a little and nodded, "Yeah, definitely a good idea I'd say. Know where we're supposed to go?" It'd be best if they go to a room so they wouldn't have pups and all the... festivities beforehand out in the waiting room and all that...

It felt best to move toward something more exciting to lift the mood. Xentus hoped some company and houluh antics would be good for the woman's spirits, giving her a nod before leading the way. He was growing fairly familiar with the breeding facility- enough to know which rooms were where at least. A nice spacey room for the hounds to run around seemed appropriate. He walked down near the end of the hall from the lobby, eyes glancing at the doors for one that was unoccupied.
It wasn't long before he came upon a suitable spot, opening the door and holding it for his company. "Ah, Xentus should warn, this is his first venture in houluh breeding..", the leopard mentioned as he went, taking a glance between the Jack and the dogs, "Think there's anything important to know?" Laku was growing impatient, tugging on the leash as he tried bolting into the room. The houluh soon found freedom as the man let him loose; tail wagging happily.

Jack followed with a hand on Magpie's head as they walked, the Houluh trotting a little to keep up with her long stride. Today was a better day than most of her days lately, she was happy to have someone to talk to, and she really needed to hang out with Xentus a little more she thought. He was a really nice guy, at least she thought so, and it was always interesting talking to him. A brief smile hit her face and she shook her head a little bit.
"Oh is it? Hmmm, let me think..." Jack thought, rubbing her cheek as she let Magpie into the room as well, the Houluh chasing after the Blessed Patronne eagerly. That was a tough question really, it was basic biology she figured, not like Orbaru or Pachee, "Honestly they breed like... regular animals? I mean we can stay out here if you'd like, for their privacy?" she suggested with a nod to the wall of the hallway.
