Kairfuryoo were... new to Fiera. She hardly remembered she even owned Coo (which was probably not an ideal thing to admit, but she was a busy lady with a lot of animals- and he was smart enough to take care of himself. Heck, half the time he was helping out in caring for the rest of the animals), but he had been doing quite well on his own. Now here she was, approaching the breeding center to try something new. When Silver (ugh) had brought up their own kairfuryoo, Cosmos, Fiera had to admit she had been struck by her beauty. Root pair breedings were new to her, and new was exciting. She definitely wanted to get a kairfuryoo breeding started though, ah, she was admittedly not sure how it went with these creatures. They were quite parental, what with the whole nursing eggs thing, but Fiera wasn't sure how to get them to... well, produce their own eggs. It was a bit of an awkward topic, all things considered. Still, the humanish had done her research and collected all the items she would need- now all she had to do was get them to the breeding center on time.

She didn't have the pair of them on any sort of leash. As it stood, kairfuryoo were quite obedient creatures naturally. Or well, perhaps 'naturally' was a poor word for it. They were created by the labs for the specific function of being a nurturing caretaker for eggs and young creatures. They had no aggression, and would bend over backwards to do anything you asked, even if they weren't well trained. It worked out well for her now though, as she knew that if she turned around the kairfuryoo would still be there, walking after her and staring at her with those big, cute eyes as if she were the sun itself. There was a good reason she wanted to breed these things, and that was because they were adorable. If she was bring pachee however, well, they HAD to stay in the carriers. If she turned her head away for even a moment they'd be off like a shot, getting into who knew what kind of trouble due to their rambunctious and curious nature. By the time she collected them again, she'd be late. With these two however, they were all on time. The breeding center was right up ahead.

She glanced back at the pair she had selected. Coo was Fiera's own kairfuryoo. He was, as far as she knew, one of the more standard breeds. Most kairfuryoo she had seen pictures of had pale, pastel colored feathers, and Coo was no different. His shade of lavender was beautiful in her opinion though, and he was well groomed and happy. He displayed an incredible pride in everything he seemed to do, but in a sort of paternal way. Rather than 'I'm better than you', he much preferred something along the lines of 'Look at what I did! Isn't that great? Here, we can enjoy it together.' What he 'did' varied though- his favorite thing to do seemed to be stacking rocks on top of each other and walking Fiera over to them, pointing at them until she had shown an appropriate amount of wonder for them. At that point, he tended to pick up the rocks and try putting them in her pockets or otherwise handing them to her. She had no clue what he thought he was doing, but he seemed awful happy with it, so she tended to play along for a while until she got tired of it.

Well, today he had a different playmate to stack rocks with. Cosmos wasn't Fiera's pet- she had borrowed her from Silver- so the humanish didn't really have a point of reference for her personality. She seemed friendly though, if a bit... breezy. She was just as happy to obey as Coo was, but her mind seemed to be elsewhere as she did it. Fiera didn't need her to be particularly clever though- or perhaps to pay attention. She glanced at Cosmos's feathers. They were gorgeous- black on her body, but shimmering out into iridescent blues and purples around the edges, making her look like a living galaxy. She was easily the most stunning kairfuryoo Fiera had ever seen, one of the fancy ones you could only get from customization laboratories. Certainly not the plain kind like Coo was. She wasn't sure how Silver had managed to acquire such a creature, but she was quite happy that they had decided to let Fiera borrow her for a while to get this breeding done. Genes like that were something that Fiera wanted to hoard for herself, that was for sure. With any luck she would get along swimmingly with Coo and they could finish this quickly.

The breeding center was now directly in front of her, shining brightly. It had been freshly cleaned from the looks of it, the roof cleared of any leaves that had fallen on it the previous autumn, buried and reduced to rancid muck under snow. It had a bright, chunky sort of shape to it, the kind of thing that reflected the... childish things that went on inside. Posters were pasted up on the windows advertising new specials and interesting offerings. A couple of them even mentioned pair roots and lachrymose leaflets- the exact items Fiera had brought with her to the breeding today. Good- that meant that she was on the right track with making this breeding as successful as possible. Or... perhaps it just meant that those items had very effective marketing. Fiera flattened her ears back, not enjoying the idea of having been manipulated. Sure it was fine when SHE did it, but the humanish was rankled at the thought of it working on her. Either way, she wanted this to go as well as possible, so the items had been purchased and now sat heavily in the bottom of her purse- along with an extra doodad she had managed to scrounge up.

The leery stone was a weird object to be sure. She had used it in a pachee breeding once a long time ago, and it had dazzled her with the amazing glowing markings it spread over the resulting offspring. The effect seemed to fade over a few generations, but it was still fascinating enough that Fiera knew she HAD to use it on this breeding. What would a kairfuryoo look like with those twisting, glowing markings? Pretty darn good she guessed, especially combined with Cosmos' sparkling feathers. She had a fantastic pairing lined up today, now all she had to do was set up their "date". She walked in through the front doors of the breeding center, feeling the cool air blow past her face. Fiera walked the pair of kairfuryoo towards the corner and guided them to sit down, placing a hand on their tiny shoulders. "Just stay here, alright?" She said in a friendly tone of voice, and to her amazement they actually did, watching her as she walked back across the room. Man, kairfuryoo were obedient- she deeply wished that some of her other pets could have even half that level of deference for her. Perhaps some of the ones that kept trying to bite her.

She approached the front desk, where an avian woman was doing something with paperwork behind it. Fiera cleared her throat prudently. "Hello!" She said, launching into her spiel. "I am here for my eleven am appointment for Cosmo and Coo? She said with a sharp toothed grin. The avian glanced down at her paperwork for a moment, but Fiera simply leaned more insistently over the counter, pressuring her into paying attention to her sooner. "Uhm, right." The avian woman said, checking a clipboard. "That's a root pair breeding, right?" She said. "Kairfuryoo breeding." Fiera clarified, even though the attendant was correct. "Okay, that's good. Just uh, fill out this?" The woman said, grabbing a clipboard with some paperwork attached to it from a small pile of them. She passed it back over the counter to Fiera, who took it and started writing down the responses right in front of the desk. It wasn't like there was anyone else here right now, so she wasn't keeping anyone from making it to the desk. Fiera was able to fill out most of the information with well-practiced grace from having bred creatures here dozens of times before, but she had to slow down at the kairfuryoo specific questions.

Creature age? Er... She put down her best guesses, not really sure how old Coo OR Cosmo were. She made sure to read the following questions a bit more carefully, making sure the information was correct to the best of her knowledge. "Here you go." She said, handing it back to the attendant. The feathered woman looked over the papers briefly, and didn't seem to notice anything off about them- always a good thing. "Great, you're all good to go." The woman said cheerfully, and handed Fiera a key with a chunky number tag attached to it on a keychain. "Your room is going to be number seven, through the door on the left." She continued, pointing over her shoulder behind her. Fiera didn't need the directions, she had been here plenty of times, but she didn't want to make a fuss either. She quickly snatched up the key and walked back over to Coo and Cosmo. They were both sitting peacefully, right where she left them. Fiera frowned- she had hoped they would have gotten to know each other a little bit better while she was away- you know, chirping at each other or nuzzling the other ones' face, or even grooming each other.

Instead they simply stared into space, like the other kairfuryoo didn't even exist. That was... a bit concerning for the long term success of this breeding. Didn't they know how to interact with each other? To make friends? In retrospect, Fiera had always only ever heard of kairfuryoo caring for other creatures, rather than having social lives of their own. Coo had lived on his own for years now and never seemed particularly bothered by it. Did that mean that they... didn't actually like members of their own species? That seemed strange considering how intelligent they were. Or perhaps it was just that they liked people more- that seemed even stranger. They didn't seem displeased with each others' presence however, so Fiera supposed it was fine. They were just sitting next to each other. Perhaps there was more communication there than Fiera could see, a sort of secret code that only kairfuryoo knew. That was probably wishful thinking on her part, but it was all she had. Hopefully their apathy towards each other wouldn't make this more difficult than it needed to be. She had enough trouble with getting rambunctious pachee to sit still, she imagined it would be more of an issue to convince two creatures to interact with each other at all.

"Come on you two." Fiera said, gently waving her hands at them to encourage them to get up. They did so happily and walked after Fiera just as obediently- their eyes trained on her instead of each other. She'd have to work on that. For now though, they made their way to the breeding room. They passed through the door to the left of the front desk easily, entering a hallway. This place wasn't quite as nicely decorated- what was the point of advertising when you were already using the services? Still, the doors were brightly colored with their numbers in a large font, and the floor was a cheerful black and white checkerboard. It was well lit and... well, more childish than romantic, but she'd have to deal with it. She had room number seven- a lucky number, apparently. Hopefully it would serve her well. The door was a bright purple with a large "7" painted on in yellow. She pushed open the door and took a look around. "Wow, not bad." Fiera said, raising an eyebrow. "Better than some of the hotels I've been in, at least." She ushered the kairfuryoo in as well, shutting the door behind them.

The room was luxurious, that was for sure. Soft pillows lined the floor, along with some toys- blocks and shiny things, perhaps for offering to a potential sweet heart. A couple of them had tiny bite marks on them- they were probably cleaned and reused from the orbaru rooms. There were also some hides that came up to Fiera's chest, presumably for the creatures to hide, nap, and generally have some privacy in. The lights were somewhat dim with a more natural shade than the hallway, avoiding blasting the creatures within with fluorescents. Soft music played over the speakers- Fiera didn't think that was really necessary for setting the mood for animals, but she supposed it WOULD distract them from the humming of electronics or the sound of other creatures passing by outside. Anything that might make them nervous. Next to the door, there was a chair. It wasn't stuck down or anything, Fiera could move it around, so presumably she could take it outside the room if necessary too. The mood was set- now they just needed to fall in love, albeit temporarily. But Fiera had just one last thing to do first, and she began rustling through her purse.

She pulled out a few items wrapped in paper. This was a kairfuryoo breeding, so she needed the items to actually make them... well, capable of doing so. The first was the leery stone. It was an odd item- she had no clue where they came from. It glowed slightly in a golden yellow hue and was so soft that she could scrape bits of it off with her nail. Even though it was described as and felt like a stone, she had never seen anything like it down in the mines before. She had only received it as a reward for completing quests, and even then only a couple times. Its origin was completely unknown to her- and it was especially odd that its use was in breedings more than anything else. Most creatures didn't eat rocks after all, but when combined with things that creatures COULD ingest, it granted their offspring strange, swirling markings. She had used it once in her pachee breedings before, so she was excited to see the result it would have on kairfuryoo. With that in mind, she took out the other packages as well, setting them on the chair next to the door.

The first was the root pair. A small velvet bag with two pinkie sized plant roots inside it. It looked like nothing right off the bat, but those small roots contained substances that, apparently, allowed the otherwise sterile creatures created by the labs to breed. Fiera found it strange- you'd think something that encouraged fertility in these creatures would come in a high processed vial of sludge like the other things that came out of the labs. But no, they looked like ordinary plants- something you could dig up out of the ground. The other item she needed to offer them was a special leaf. She peeled it out of the plastic packaging, and upon being exposed to air it immediately started leaking fluids. Lachrymose leaflets were strange things, chemical reactions in their surface causing them to generate their own dew. Something in the dew also increased fertility, though not to the same degree as the root pair. The root pair gave these creatures the ability to bear offspring, and the leaflets further increased it. Technically, these two things were all she needed to get the breeding going today. The leery stone was just the icing on the metaphorical cake.

She held up the leery stone over the root pair and dug her nail into the side of it. Slowly, she scraped off a sprinkling of powder onto the roots. Then, she moved it over to the leaflet and did the same, until both were covered in a fine layer of yellow-orange dust. That was all she needed to do, apparently. Well, other than feed the things to the kairfuryoo. They looked at her curiously as she went through these motions, not disinterested but not willing to interfere either. Now however, she stood up and offered them to the pets. One root she offered to Coo, and then the other to Cosmos. They just stared at the objects in their hands, as if hanging on to them for her, until she finally raised a hand to her mouth, miming eating. Then it was like a little light went off behind their eyes and they lifted the roots to their beaks, quickly biting through them. Coo made a face at his after taking the first bite, and Fiera wondered if the root was bitter. If they were natural plants, she supposed they wouldn't always be palatable. He didn't hesitate further however, and soon both roots were devoured.
