Renathan was a skilled miner, but he trusted Sarabi's judgement over his own due to mining being practically in her blood. He worked down in the mines when he felt like it- she literally was born and presumably raised here. There was a difference in know-how that would never be a crossable gap. So he looked to her exclusively for her opinions on the matter by watching her body language. She didn't seem too worried about the worm tunnel; and he was quite certain that he would hear the giant worm coming back if it somehow did decide to come back. After all, the tunnel would echo! So he strode forward confidently to inspect the clawed-at wall that Sarabi had been excavating before. Sarabi walks behind him, and for a moment he swears that he hears her stop and hesitate for a moment, but soon enough she is catching up to him and entering the light of their minecart torch's reach.

Now that Renathan was closer, he could see that Sarabi had indeed found something when she had been excavating the wall that she had been working on before the worm debacle had occurred. There was a distinctly dark stripe of stone that was very quickly recognizable as different from the rest of the rock around it, and that was always an excellent sign for a vein of some sort of gemstone being there. Sarabi had been working quite diligently at the time that she had been distracted by Renathan's surprised reaction to the huge tunneling worm, as could be recognized by the depth of most of the scrapes from her strong claws. "Good work Sarabi, you found a vein huh?" He says, his voice echoing in the larger cavern in the lit area. It was a disconcerting noise- but only because the echo was exacerbated by the length of tunnel that they had just emerged from.

Sarabi was clever enough to realize that she was being praised, and Renathan could tell that she was quite pleased with it (if not perhaps an analogue of being embarrassed; to whatever capacity her species could recognize such a thing) as she practically pranced past him, wings up in the air as she walked. She moved to where she had been working before and didn't even turn around before she began to work again, using her claws to dig at the darker stone that was there. It was apparently quite a bit harder than the stone around it, because she seemed to have to use more force to sheer it away with her claws than the relatively soft stone around it. Renathan figured that if Sarabi had gotten back to work, that he ought to as well. He moved to the minecart to put the already found gems inside of it first, though.

As Renathan placed the gathered gems into the mining cart, he did take a moment to get a better look at them in the light of the mining cart torch. The two pieces of jade were entirely unremarkable. Of course, part of the issue might have been that he was not at all a fan of the stone; he preferred serpentine out of the cheaper green stones, most of the pieces of jade he had collected over the years were strangely colored. It would seem that the Jade of this area of Pethia was different looking than that of his homeland; where it was more milky and almost other-wordly looking. Most of these pieces of jade were a flattish verdant green- and not a particularly pretty one at that. After frowning beneath his mask, he put both of the jade pieces down, and pulled forth the starstone instead. He absolutely adored starstone!

He was hoping that this particular piece of starstone was a good specimen. Sometimes it could be very deceptive, however. It was not uncommon for impurities to be found deep within the stone, hidden by the captivating appearance of the colors and white details. He held the starstone in question up to the light and squinted from behind his mask, turning the piece over and looking for any of the tell-tale dimples or protrusions that might belie the presence of such an impurity. There was nothing worse than cutting into a stone to clean it up for use and suddenly revealing a line of rust or other such ugly flaw that would not only be a visible issue but would also render it completely unusable for the job at hand due to both that appearance concern and the lack of cleanability or strength. He couldn't see anything that caught his eye, though perhaps he was simply slightly distracted by Sarabi's digging at the wall beside him.

Sighing, Renathan put the piece of starstone down into the mining cart. He felt bad not mining while Sarabi was working so diligently, but the truth was that he was already quite hungry. He was always sure to pack sandwiches whenever he went on a mining trip (just in case they get stuck in a shaft for a while), but he usually didn't stay for long enough to enjoy any of them. This time, he wanted to sit down on a nearby boulder and have a sandwich. He glanced over at Sarabi with an apologetic expression on his hidden face, and reached down to grab himself a sandwich. He would offer her some of the food he brought for her (though she often found and ate her own food while they were mining), but he knew that she wouldn't rest until she retrieved whatever it was that she was looking for. He'd wait until she was done to offer food to her.

Sarabi didn't even turn to look at him as he shut the minecart after having grabbed the sandwiches, and moved over to the boulder that was nearby with the flattish top that he had decided to sit on to have his lunch. He'd also grabbed a bottle of water from the minecart. He was never very fond of the water that came from the taps in the Labs City (it tasted... Odd to him) but he did enjoy it when he was parched down in the mines. Right now was one of those moments. It was really easy to feel dried out when one was in a particularly arid cave. Some of them were much more damp, but this one was so arid that it made the softer parts of his maw sting. He opened up the little parcel with the sandwich between his fingers, and slipped the food from the wax paper smoothly.
