Renathan sat down for a moment on the couch, curiously looking over the room. There were several things here that he didn't remember, now that he got time to think about such things. There were several different boxes under a shelf he didn't remember being there before, as well as shelves with drawers. Renathan got a strong urge to check through them, but he cautiously glanced around some more at the mansion's front room instead, nervous that he may upset the mansion if he looted something he wasn't supposed to. Some things he could tell were not supposed to be taken; in example, the various candles around and the mug he put his cocoa in. Something just didn't seem right about them, so he tried not to mess with them. This also mattered for the story book, he felt; those things were supposed to stay here. Shy Guy seemed to be ready to start exploring though; so Renathan knew he was going to need to make any exploration of this room a bit quick, so that they could do so.

Renathan was sure that there was something to be found around here though... He decides to go ahead and read the newest book for a moment to get a good idea what it was, and to allow his cocoa to cool down so that he could drink it before figuring everything out about the room. There was so much to do, and he wasn't sure what to think about it. The book itself seemed interesting enough; it had some interesting folk stories... That seemed a little too new to be from around this time period? He wasn't sure what to think about that either. He flipped through the book absentmindedly, and found out that the book had some folk information about the species themselves, which sounded so interesting. The species, he had been told, were all too new and decently documented to really have folklore about them though! Or so he thought. Renathan could hear Shy Guy being impatient, tapping a hoof on the ground, across the room.

Renathan took in as much information as he could possibly do in such a small amount of time, skimming through species that hadn't grown in years, and picking through the ones that he was more used to working with, since those were the most important to him after all. Renathan was almost hyper aware of the impatient movements that Shy Guy was having, though he wasn't sure what to do about that either. He had to drink his cocoa, at least. Finally, Renathan popped up out of the chair and grabbed the bowl of apples, moving it from the table over to where the equillion was sat down. He was immediately quite stoked, picking up one of the apples and crunching it quite well. Renathan was glad that the creature was calming down now, because he was ready to try to see what was in this book that he had been looking at previously.

Renathan sat down quietly on the couch again, picking up the book that he had been looking through previously, and then he took a long swig of his hot cocoa. The peppermint taste was quite good, and he was super happy that he came back to have some of the enjoyable drink. Renathan wished that he could find this drink outside of the mansion's grounds, and buy a few boxes. He didn't have anything like this at home, sadly. Renathan opened the book after taking his refreshing sip of the cocoa, and searched fervently for a few of the stories. A folklore story about a creature that refused to leave it's master's side even after death... That was interesting and a bit melancholy. Renathan wondered if any of his creatures would have done that for him... He had no idea what would cause a critter to do that, even after the master was gone.

Renathan turned to the next story and was surprised to find a story about a small but swift mosca that somehow had managed to defeat even great and large creatures in the pit. There was no way that it had ever happened, Renathan told himself, because the mosca was apparently not only a mosca, but a juvenile too! Renathan was completely baffled by this piece of folklore; apparently hard work and determination had allowed the crafty creature to learn to push it's body in ways that no other creature could, and that had allowed it to defeat others in the pit with surprising ease. He knew that this had to be some kind of a storybook now. He read about the first tat-lung that became a draconic shape from a fish simply by wishing it so. Renathan glanced up at Shy Guy, trying to imagine what kind of a story someone would make about any creature that was the first of it's kind to do something or another.

Shy Guy was much quieter now, his mouth filled by one pink apple at a time. The bowl hardly ever seemed to get low before suddenly it was filled with apples again, and Shy Guy wasn't really thinking much about it at least. Renathan would have given it about the same amount of thought as he gave the always seemingly present hot cocoa mix in a mason jar on the mantle. Renathan however, was not contemplating exactly how or why the mansion was keeping them stocked with foods, only the contents of the interesting book he had found near the sofa. If the story about the loyal critter had been sad, and the one about the mosca had been surprising and unbelievable, the story about the first tat-lung fish becoming a tat-lung dragon would not have been believable if not for the fact that Renathan knew that in fact, tat lung started life looking like a fish.

That did make Renathan think, however. The tat-lung story may be very stylized and almost folk-lore like, but Renathan knew several things that made it a bit questionable. For one, he knew that tat-lung did indeed look like fish as youngsters, much like a frog with a tad-pole, but also he knew that tat-lung were basically sentient. That meant that while he doubted that their life cycle had anything more to do with will of a small fish than the Labs' meddling, he did think that it would make sense that a young tat-lung, much like a child, would wish to grow up and become an 'adult' (and thus; a dragon) enough to eventually believe that they wished it into being as a youngster, surely. So if this had some kernel of truth in it, did the story about the creature and the story about the mosca also have some kernel of truth to them as well?

Renathan was a bit surprised of the idea that maybe there was a mosca that won a tournament long ago, perhaps against some smaller or poorly trained creatures? Perhaps that way it? Renathan told himself to go back and look at the tournaments of the past to see if this was in any way accurate. Renathan sat the book down on the table for a moment, and then took another long sip of his hot cocoa. He told himself that after he finished the cocoa, he would go searching for more loot. He was getting a little tired, now that his body was not tightened up about the whole drake thing, and he wanted to get this done today as quite as possible preferably. He had so many things to do at home, and it was exhausting thinking about all of it. He knew that he had put these things on himself for a reason; and that Soon, Shy Guy should be being impatient again.

Renathan picked up the book one last time, searching this time specifically for four-legged creatures specifically. There were many small short stories about the amazing feats of loyalty that vulticus had, the large creatures that proud estharne could take down when trained to help hunt, and wonderful stories about malii's magical feats. Renathan, however, was not as impressed. He was looking for creatures that could carry riders as well, and only the foul-tempered cave vulticus tended to allow that in the loyal vulticus. Renathan took another sip of his hot cocoa, and then began reading about a species he'd only ever read about before and had never owned one of; the balgor. Some kind of huge lion-like creature, more doglike than catlike somehow, as he could understand. He hadn't actually seen anything but pictures previously. Renathan wondered, for a moment, what such a strong and big creature would look like. Were they as big as Shy Guy? Or just a little smaller?

Renathan can see that Shy Guy is enjoying his apples; and that somehow there was still a whole bunch more in the bowl. He didn't really ask himself about it, just kind of accepting the fact that maybe Shy Guy didn't eat as many as he had thought that he had, at least. Renathan glanced back down at the book curiously, realizing that this story was also quite interesting. Apparently it was a story about a valiant balgor that took down a creature even bigger than it to protect it's master... Renathan did not know what kind of story this could have been that may be a seed for this story, so Renathan decided that this one was an interesting, but also probably untrue, story. Still, it made Reanthan want to study the species. He was, after all, looking for a species that would help his chiryma, that was left back at home, have an easier time getting around.

Renathan was quietly considering this when he finally heard the impatient tapping tell-tale coming from Shy Guy's great and huge hooves. He knew that it was time for him to finish off the dregs from his hot chocolate. He did, however, wonder why he had not really seen much of a balgor or anything. He hadn't really even checked anything that had been written about them. Perhaps they were one of the much less popular 'later' creatures in the list of species made by the labs? Renathan knew that most of the latter species were much less common due to folks not quite training them as often; and he had thought that most of these were simply because they seemed to have some defect that made them very slow growing... Renathan wasn't sure. Was the balgor the same? He doubted it, somewhat. Sure, the pasha-sarane were very slow to grow, but he was sure that balgor were most likely well-grown. Did the labs offer them as customs even now?

Renathan told himself to look into this more later. This four-legged and great hearted species sounded like a good and solid candidate for a lead at helping the chocolate colored chiryma be able to hopefully walk as normally as possible in the future. Renathan still felt little pangs of regret for letting him get hurt, but knew that he was going to try to 'fix it' as soon as possible. For now, Renathan sits the book aside on the table beside the comfortable couch, and then he drinks the rest of his hot cocoa, so that he can get up without worrying. He went to clean out his cup over by the hearth, and he placed everything back just the way he found it. Already, the mug was filled up with cocoa mix again, but he knew that he needed to start searching around. As soon as he was done, he rose again, and put the bowl of pink apples back on the table. He didn't take any to bring with him out of the bowl as he asked Shy Guy to get up. Time to explore!

Shy Guy seemed relieved, at least, that they could finally get on with doing something other than sitting around. Shy Guy was an athletic equillion, and preferred to be moving most of the time. Sure, he laid down to sleep super commonly, unlike most other ungulates that Renathan had seen thus far, but he loved to be up and on his feet for sometimes annoyingly long amounts of time. Renathan had found him standing on the fence, roof of all of the barns, and several other places, making noises all the time. Renathan figured that he was about as frustrating as keeping a rooster. Renathan did like this about the equillion, however, because he was sure that Shy Guy would always be up and around and full of energy if everything went wrong. At the very least, he and the equillion would be able to protect the farm, Renathan figured.

Renathan had been thinking for a long time about finding some way to protect his home even better than he had been. Sure, the farm was already scary enough, with a ton of sarane on the property, but Renathan would have to be there to let them out of their stables in order for them to protect the farm themselves, and Renathan needed to work with most of them to make them adequate for protection work... Well, at least they would have to be trained not to actually kill unless they had to, which Renathan was just recently learning was the expected form of mercy here. He was used to thinking of killing an enemy as opposed to injuring them as being more merciful, so that was some rather extreme culture shock for him, at least. Shy Guy nudged Renathan from his thoughts, and Renathan smiled at him. Yes, his goal was to find more bells today. That was what he was supposed to be doing.
