Renathan had been in such a good mood for so long, he'd forgotten what the down days were like. Now, he hated it. He hated feeling like this, he hated thinking like this, he had forgotten what it was like to be this way. He tried not to let Auburn feel it, but at this point she was like an attachment to his soul, more like a second head that a parasite at least, and it was hard to keep anything from her. She cuddled into his neck poofily, and Renathan tried not to realize that it was because she worried about him so much. "Alrighty Auburn, let's go... Uh, explore." Renathan mumbled again, trying not to step on anything sharp. He'd nearly stepped on the dead casing of a starfish a second ago, and it had crumbled just from being near him. Ah, well, he'd only ever seen the dead ones, never the alive ones before anyway.

Exploring, huh? Well, perhaps that was what they were doing here. Renathan hadn't thought of visiting the mansion like that before. "Hey mansion, are you going to be nice to us today?" Renathan was speaking more to the spirit of the land that dwelled here than anything else of course. He was certain that a spirit of the land lived here, after all. He hadn't known that Pethia had any spirits of the land until coming here, and then it was almost like a slap to the face, of course there was! Because of that, he tried to always bring some little tribute to the place, gemstone chips, stuff like that. He wanted to appease it, since this place could technically be super dangerous. He'd been here with it being dangerous before; so he knew very well what it was capable of. Auburn didn't seem too worried, so that was a good sign at least!

One last push, Renathan thought, and they would be over in that area... Just what would they find once they got there? Renathan had idealizations of a whole treasure box of stuff, but of course, pirate stories were always a lot more glamorous than the true deal. He wouldn't want to run into anything like that now, would he? Renathan got a bit excited actually at the prospect of finding such a thing, what would he run into? He petted Auburn and then sped up just a little bit, feeling invigorated by a particularly cool and salty wind. He finally broke out into a run, with the izer holding on expertly to his back. He had been travelling with her for some time, since she was his familiar, and she was used to his running by this point. Her claws no longer hurt when they dug into Renathan's shoulder, because he was used to her in turn.

Renathan was admittedly a little frightened about the prospect of seeing some of the more weird water animals. In his homeland, water animals were poisonous to eat, and would kill most people who tried them. However, apparently they were not like this in Pethia? Still, he naturally didn't want to be around the fish too much if he didn't absolutely have to. "What do you think we'll find, Auburn?" He asked, and she trilled back to him cutely. He did love her quite a bit, she was such a good creature; and he really did enjoy being around her. Finally, the sand begins to cool beneath his leathery footpads. He was glad, because he hadn't really realized it until now, but his feet hurt. Thankfully, the sand here was wet, and the black sand beach was not too far away. The land was really beautiful, Renathan couldn't help but look at all of the strange pieces of driftwood around.

"Auburn, you better be glad you are on my shoulder, that sand was HOT." Renathan said, mostly to himself once again. A little trill of course told him that the jibiji had no idea what he meant by it, of course. He knew that speaking into the air was really more for him than for the tiny creature anyway. She sure was fluffy; it made her appear a lot larger than she actually was. He tried not to let her get wet or overheated though, since she was so poofy. It could cause some pretty big issues if she did get wet or hot, but he tried not to think too much about that unless it was an imminent danger. He was sure that she would have enough sense not to leap into the water, for example. She couldn't swim, and probably would never be able to do so since her hair would bog her down a bit.

Renathan's feet finally touched the black sand, and was it wet! Renathan smiled, stepping in it a bit more, enjoying the soothing feeling on his somewhat burned footpads. "Looks like we're here, Auburn!" He said, excitedly. It was just as beautiful as he thought it would be; there were lots of driftwood bits everywhere, looking dark and spooky, rising mist off of it. Renathan couldn't help but frown; Shy Guy would have loved this, but he was still recovering. It was a struggle to get him not to try to follow Renathan everywhere, despite his roughness. Renathan tried not to think about it and instead immersed himself in the scenery. There were smooth stones of black and they were multi-sided... Basalt? Maybe that was what this pretty black sand was made out of. It was quite a lovely sight. The miniature area sure sounded like the ocean; and smelled like it too!

Renathan had decided upon a certain amount of time that they would spend here today, but he was beginning to wonder if they shouldn't stay a little while longer. Renathan sighed; he knew that he couldn't. He had a lot of orders that he needed to get started today, he really didn't have the time to play too much around here. Not even looking at he surf would change that. It was beautiful; the crystalline water frothing onto the shore; breaking over rocks... If it weren't for the miniature nature of it, he would have believed that he was standing at the ocean, he knew what it looked like well enough. "Wow, Auburn, isn't it beautiful? What do you think we'll find?" Renathan said, petting Auburn beneath her chin and listening to her trill back. "Well I don't know, why don't we look?" Renathan replied back, even though she hadn't really spoken of course. He tended to do this, sometimes.

Renathan's eyes were drawn to some sort of strange thing made out of sand not too far away. It was made out of the black sand of the area, and looked sort of like a sand castle? How adorable! Renathan didn't even wonder who had made it, he just knew that the mansion had made it just for them, since they were the only ones out here at the time. "Look at that Auburn, it's a sandcastle!" He pointed in the direction, and then moved over to it, throwing caution to the wind. It was a cute little sandcastle, with a few stick 'flags' on it with leaves to serve as the actual flag part. It was surprisingly detailed for it's size, like it had been meticulously carved. "It is so pretty, I haven't seen very many of these." Renathan commented, technically to Auburn, even though she wouldn't understand.

Renathan didn't notice anything amiss, but Auburn sure did. Renathan steps forward, and then bends down to get a better look at the sandcastle, crouched in the black sand of the beach. The sand just seemed to be perfect for building sandcastles, it was wet and good for compacting. "Auburn, look at this!" Renathan reached out to grab something, not quite noticing that the izer was fluffed up defensively, and shaking a bit. Suddenly, the sand castle was HUGE. WAAY huge, it towered above them looming ominously, now much more like a haunted house than a simple sand castle. Renathan scrambled to back up, and then fell on his hind end up against a... Large hand made out of black sand? Wait, what?! Renathan lurched forward to attempt to book it, but was met with a huge gaping 'maw' of a thing. Auburn made a noise of fear, but did not try to run away herself, staying stalwart with Renathan.

Perhaps if the izer would have flown away when she had the chance, at least she would have gotten away. Instead, Renathan scrambled away, and a great mouth of sand engulfed him. Darkness ensued, and Renathan felt like he was drowning. However; as soon as it started, it faded away, leaving Renathan and Auburn in a dark area, perhaps underground? With a black sandy floor, the dripping sound of water, and it appeared to be held up with driftwood wall supports. The mammalian coughed, but nothing came out; for the 'drowning' sensation hadn't been from sand nor water, nor had it truly been real, as was the case with quite a few mansion eccentricities. Renathan finally pulls himself to his feet to look around, and notices that the world appears to be lit by several hourglasses affixed to the wall, each one dripping a strange glowing blue fluid. When it fills the bottom, they turn upside down, as if magicked.

Renathan pulled himself the rest of the way up sorely. He wondered exactly what he had done to offend the mansion so horridly that it had tried to kill him. "Auburn, are you okay?" He asked, reaching out for her in the luminescent but still dimly lit area. Auburn brushes up against his hand, fluffily. "Oh, there you are, and you seem to be feeling okay. That is at least good." Renathan couldn't tell a whole lot more about the area they were currently in, but Renathan was sure that it was an extension of the mansion. Maybe the spirit of the land had something that it wanted them to see? Renathan wasn't sure what to expect; good things, or bad. Maybe they would have to get through a gauntlet of bad to get to the good? He sure hoped not, but the Mansion was always throwing weird things at them.

Auburn flew up to Renathan's shoulder and sat there, clinging as per usual. Renathan could now focus on the situation they were in, instead of simply worrying about her, and that was good in the long run. He did adore Auburn, but he needed to get them out of here, or else they may be stuck in here for who knows how long... Maybe forever. Renathan saw that he had two directions that he could go down here in the tunnel, but which was the right one? "Auburn, which way do you think we should go?" He asked, glancing one way and then the other. She trilled back at him, and he petted her as he thought. "I think we'll go right, and if it is a dead end, we can just turn around." He mumbled, and then began walking in that direction, keeping an eye out for any kind of danger.

Renathan could here dripping water from all around... But he couldn't exactly see it. Perhaps they were under the miniature ocean from earlier? Renathan wasn't sure what to think about that, really; what if there wasn't a way to get out of here? Renathan hadn't been feeling exactly good just earlier, but he was laser-focused and sharp now, keen on getting out of this new danger. It occurred to him how quickly he could have wound up dead if the Mansion had so pleased it; he couldn't even really put up a true fight earlier, partially from the shock. He'd dodged that first attempt, but the second had gotten him immediately, as if the Mansion's spirit had expected that. Heck, it probably had. Renathan was here all of the time. However, true to form, the Mansion did not seem to want them dead. Renathan would just have to keep assuming that the mansion was simply... Playing with them.
