Familiars apparently lived off of the closeness with their owner, and their magic. Renathan wondered sometimes if Auburn wouldn't have been happier without being bound to him like she was. She never really got a choice, after all, especially since she was about average animal intelligence, so he wasn't sure if it was even possible to really get an actual permission from the creature. Renathan still thought about things like this, a lot. However; he tried not to overthink it too much. It was the way it was. Renathan had swallowed his node, and it was not a mistake. He had a few road bumps along the way of trying to figure out how to use it properly; and it was not a mistake. He was still learning how to keep it under control and use individual 'spells', and that was just fine. He was sure that Auburn would help him along the way! He pets her gently, and then continues looking out over the strange impressionistic landscape.

Renathan had so many things that he wanted to do; and he kept holding on to the old things that he had wanted. He remembered the first few months of him being in the city; the orbaru breedings, meeting Jack, trying to figure out what he was supposed to do here. He felt a bit of a flutter in his chest as he thought about it; he missed the simpler times. Everything was so complicated now! He had no idea what to think of what things had become now. There was so much to do; and not anything at all at the same time. He was really stressed about the fighting pit right now, sure, but he was beginning to not care anymore about some of the things he used to think were so important. It was strange, sitting here in the mansion's grounds, watching the fireworks that almost looked like flowers blossoming across the sky, with Auburn being petted in his lap.

Renathan wished that he knew everything about each month of the mansion, but he really didn't think that anyone did. He couldn't find out any extra information by asking other folks, no matter how much he tried. Usually he could find out all sorts of information through the grapevines in the labs city. Everyone was generally on their own around here, but information typically spread like wildfire. There is so much going on in the city; he remembered how his homeland was much more calm and quiet; boring. He certainly couldn't explain this chosen home using the word boring! Half of the time, it was an adventure! At least part of the time it was stressful, however. Renathan was feeling his stress melt away, enjoying this area, looking out over the pretty fireworks that were going off this month. Auburn was already beginning to fall asleep in his lap... This was working so well!

Renathan did not know how much longer they were going to stay. Auburn was getting pretty sleepy, but he wanted to find a few more things before he went. He didn't feel entirely sure that they were going to find anything else though. Sometimes the mansion was a bit odd, and gave out things like candy, and then some days it just refused to allow anyone to find anything. He really hoped that it would be especially fine eventually. There were so many things that Renathan was worried about, really, and mostly it was people nowadays. Jack's... Almost confession? The other day gave him a lot to think about, and he still had no idea what to do about it. He was also worried about the kid; they were definitely not getting used to the life of being an elemental well. Then again, did anyone? Renathan hadn't had too hard of a time, but then again, fire isn't that horrible of an element. It raged, yes, but it warmed and lit the way, too.

Renathan had wondered, several times in fact, what it would have been like if he had needed to make any other sort of element of a node, and swallow it instead. Fire was hard on him, not what he would have chosen had he had the chance, but he had managed it thanks to his calm personality. He would have probably chosen earth, if he'd had the chance, but it was quite fine. He wasn't upset at his choice at all. However, he was sure that any of the elemental nodes would have been fine for him; wind wasn't too bad, not his cup of joe, but it probably wouldn't have made him feel bad to become a wind elemental. Water would have been odd, probably, but he was also sure that it wouldn't mess with his head too much. He thought about this, as he petted the sleeping izer. It was adorable.

Renathan decided that he was going to leave soon; it was getting late he was sure, and Auburn was way too sleepy for him to stay much longer. He was sure that on the way out, the mansion's spirit of the land would say goodbye to them. All things considered, it had been a pretty good visit, no problem at all today, thus far. He hoped that it would continue to be this way every time he came back, but he was sure that the spirit of the land would be happier some days and more upset some others. That was the way it was with Pethia's strange areas, it seemed. Kind of like the mines, some days were beyond excellent, and some days were absolutely terrible. Renathan scooped Auburn up out of his lap, and then cuddled her to his chest. He held her gently to him, and then began to climb down off of the hillock.

He knew that they would have to cross the fireworks field to be able to get to the gate to go home, so he was sure that it would give him a chance to find something else to go home with, or that was what he told himself. He was sure that it would be the case! Renathan smiled softly beneath the mask, sure that they would find something or another. Auburn could probably use another day, at some point, to hang out with him by herself, but today it could wait. They had a bit of time before this tourney would be over to get ready for the next one. Renathan began to step through the fireworks field, and smiled as the blasts of light showed off. It was... Nice. Yeah, nice. Renathan walked through the entire field on the way out, looking for more things to grab and pick up before they left...

Renathan still needed to spend time with Auburn; it was incredibly important that she get even closer to him if she was going to learn how to be a true battler in the future. Renathan was still waffling about the pit, and figured that he wouldn't step foot in there during a tourney again, since he was still absolutely stewing, but he still wanted Auburn to be able to protect herself, so he figured that he would have to teach her as much as possible, as well as possible, anyway. Renathan had her up on his shoulder when he shows up at the Mansion's gate. Last year, this had been a sandy area this month during the year, and Renathan hoped that it would be that way again this year. Renathan was afraid of seawater, and wanted to go up against that fear by learning more about the ocean, and this was a great time of month to do it in!

Auburn was enjoying the bright and beautiful midday. Renathan had made sure to get them a snack a piece on the way to the mansion, so she was chewing happily on a seed. He had so many of them in a sack that he was sure she could have one every now and again today over the adventure. She loved seeds so much, even though as an izer she was technically supposed to have fruit. Renathan tried to get her to eat fruit, and some of them she even did feed upon. "You enjoying that seed, Auburn?" Renathan asked, voice soft. He really did enjoy being around here, and checking out over the mansion together was pretty enjoyable the previous month. Perhaps it would be fun this month, too? The gate is swung open, and Renathan steps onto the first knoll. Surprisingly enough, the ground was indeed covered in pebbles right here, instead of the sand that it was last year.

Auburn trilled lightly, and then fluttered down to the ground, where she began nudging different stones. "Silly, Auburn; that is not a bunch of seeds. Sweetie, those are pebbles." Renathan really didn't know for sure if that was what she thought, or if she simply wanted all of the shinies. Auburn picks out a particularly smooth but useless rock and brought it to Renathan. Ah, she had been trained the 'search' command, and she sometimes did it on her own, and that sometimes caused issues. "Oh, thank you, it is really pretty." The russet mammalian says, smiling down at her from behind the mask. "There are very many aren't there?" Renathan mumbled, watching her pick through some more. Perhaps they needed to move on from this position, so that she didn't sit here and pick him up every stone off of the beach individually. That did sound up like something she would do.

The area was quite beautiful, Renathan was sure, but he wanted to be able to go actually... See all of that, instead of standing here with Auburn picking at all of the regular rocks. "Come on, Auburn, we need to move up this knoll." He hoped that there would be sand in the future, because he didn't really want to have to keep picking Auburn up out of piles of smooth pebbles. He could imagine it though, she was just that kind of critter. Auburn was anything if not obedient and loyal, however. She followed close at Renathan's heels as he went up the hill, nearly slipping on all of the kind of loose pebbles as he did so. Just the kind that would be found on the beach, actually, well, minus a cliffside. Those looked completely different; he'd seen those before. Auburn was hopping up over the rocks, one direction and then the other.

Renathan nearly slips on his way up the tiny slope, but he is finally able to get up there, nearly on all fours as he does so. While he didn't notice how sun-warmed and hot the pebbles were on the way up the slope on his feet, his palms did indeed notice it, despite both being equally leathered. He finally is able to stand up at the top of the hillock, and he turned around before looking ahead, to make sure that Auburn wasn't hurting herself on the hillock. She finally scrambled her way up, half-flying and half leaping. "Aren't you silly, Auburn." Renathan said, mostly absently. He wasn't really feeling like himself today, after all. When Auburn finally made it up the slope, Renathan grinned beneath the mask, knowing she was safe now, and then looked out over the rest of the mansion grounds. The beauty was absolutely astounding!

The land was absolutely strange and beautiful. It was hard to believe that out there beyond the gate a little ways, the normal world was there, just waiting to be returned to eventually. Renathan could see sand for a long ways out here; beautiful pale white sand in most cases, but just a little while away, he could see the beginnings of black sand... And a beautiful faux-ocean, minuscule, but still there. Renathan wondered if there would be anything super interesting there if he went there? He'd bet so! "Auburn, let's go see the black sand." He mumbled, though he wasn't sure why he was speaking so much lately, mostly to himself. Renathan took off down the slope, eagerly ready to go to that place with the black sand in the yard. He kept telling himself eventually he'd go inside the mansion itself, or maybe he had no idea, and he was already there? The place was super trippy sometimes.

The sand on this side was powdery and a little hot. Renathan hot-footed it down the hillock, hoping that the sand would cool down as he went across, but it wasn't exactly working out for him that way right now, either. "Auburn, you sure that you are doing okay? This sand is a bit warm." She was covered in lots of fur, so heat wasn't the best for her. Luckily, the air itself was pretty cool thanks to the breeze, So Renathan just picked up the izer and put her on his shoulder. "Don't worry critter, you'll stay cool up here." Renathan was speaking absent-mindedly again. He was trying hard not to think too much about the entire ordeal at the pit, but the pit of his stomach felt... Empty. He hadn't been eating so much recently, though he did get that snack down earlier, so he hoped that he was on the upswing.
