Ah, another competitor clever enough to bring a golem. One of the original models, an older take on the concept. In almost every way I considered the core in a shell implementation to be preferrable, though this particular golem had some style to it. The body was made out of crystals, like one of those odd little creatures from the mines, but much bigger and tougher looking. How enchanting.
Was its trainer one of those droids as well? This was certainly going to be an interesting match. A chance to prove the superiority of the redesign as well as my superior training regimen.

Nina's antennae perked up when she realized what their next opponent would be - another Elemental Golem. This time of the 'new and improved' variety. Rather than having the element exposed, it was contained in some kind of shell. Nina had been relying on Laputa's solid crystal body to protect her so far, but it looked like she might just meet her match in that department. Now it was time to test just how tough that shell really was.
It was a clash of two crystals, and as fate would have it, standing opposite of her was a Tat-lung, and a familiar one at that. How interesting.

It was not hard to guess that the new golem would be faster than Laputa. Pretty much everything was faster than Laputa. The springy little legs on the new model carried it around much faster than a pile of rocks. It began to kick up sand from the pit's floor and filled the air with the fine grains. Laputa winced, covering her face to keep the sand out of her eyes. A clever trick, she thought. Not letting a little sand deter them, she called out her next command. She was ready to test just how tough that shell was, after all.

While it certainly seemed strange to throw sand at a pile of rocks, it did seem to work. The crystal creature flinched away from Sha, rubbing sand out of its eyes. I was pleased to see that the strategy worked, even though I had my doubts. Sha was clearly much faster than the crystal golem and was easily able to dance around it to avoid being hit. The thick haze of sand in the air certainly helped. Now it was time to learn just how tough those crystals really were. Without testing it, I would never know if Sha's unique shell was really the superior option. The labs should thank me for doing such diligent work testing their experiments.

Laputa wasted no time in going in for the strike. While Nina knew that that shell around the v2 Golems was tough, she hoped enough force would be able to crack it. Unfortunately for Laputa, as she approached, a searing bright light filled the stadium. Nina had to look away as the light reflected off her crystal body shooting a rainbow of reflections in every direction. By the time she looked back, it was all over and Laputa looked thoroughly stunned. The ground was littered with little crystal shards that had fallen off. Well, that was one way to harm her, apparently.

Well, at the very least, I could be confident that Sha was faster than a pile of rocks. Not information I thought I would ever need to use again, however. He quickly slid out of the way of the older golem's fists only to launch his own devastating blow.
Each competitor reacted to the light differently, and this one was no exception. As I turned back I caught a glimpse of the colorful light dancing around the pit. The crystal golem's body had acted as a sort of prism, though it had suffered no less devastation from the blow. I wondered if they would let me keep some of the shards for my own hoard...

A blade of light carved into Laputa's crystals. Despite the visible cut it left, she looked like she hardly noticed. Nina was always acutely aware of every injury Laputa took, since it was so easy to miss something with her dull reactions.
"Now, Laputa, smash!" Nina said. Laputa would probably forget if not reminded, but she did dutifully follow orders as soon as they were given. She beat her fists against the other golem as hard as she could, but nothing happened. She merely bounced off the shell. Was this how other creatures felt going against her? Probably, but she wasn't clever enough to consider that.

The quick but relatively weak blade of light sliced into the crystal creature, leaving a visible cut. It was far from the complete shatter I had been hoping for, but it proved that the gem-like golem could be damaged. It retaliated, beating on Sha's shell with its fists and just leaving a crack behind.
After all was said and done, the only sign that anything had happened was a few pitiful little cracks. This would be a slow and painful fight for both parties. I could only hope that Sha's shell would hold out long enough to make a finishing blow on the crystal.

Another blade of light and another chip in the crystal colossus. I had no way of knowing how much damage was actually being done. If this golem was anything like the ones I was more familiar with, it would be difficult to tell how it was feeling even in the best of circumstances.
A retaliating blow from the golem sent a splash of liquid light flying out of the previously formed crack in Sha's shell. I twisted my face up to avoid gasping aloud as I saw what equated to Sha's life energy leaking out at an alarming rate. Another blow like that and he would be said and done for. Was his opponent smart enough to strike again in the same place? Only time would tell.

The two golems came crashing together and Laputa somehow managed to strike Sha's shell just right. A plume of light poured out from the crack as if the creature were bleeding elemental energy. A brutal blow indeed.
Nina could hardly contain her curiosity when she saw it. She wanted to study the it, to learn how it worked and what it was made of. Unfortunately, she would not get the chance, as it was generally a faux pas to stick your fingers in the wounds of your opponent, and she wasn't about to go adopt and crack open one of her own. Maybe the labs had a pamphlet on it instead.
"Good one, Nina!" she called, following the statement with her next instruction.
