Renathan turned back to the gate and closed it behind him; this next one might be difficult to actually wrangle into the gardens... Renathan was able to get it brought here in a huge crate and on an equillion sled that he had hired for it. The creature had been sedated, since it was dangerous, and it didn't take long for the hired individual and Renathan to manage to get him into the garden. After paying the individual a bit of a tip for the difficulty, Renathan closed the gate and then made sure that the greater dragonoak would wake up in a secluded area away from any of the other creatures, since it was possible that it was dangerous. Renathan was sure that it would be fine. Renathan glanced over the terraces and sighed... There was so much weeding that needed to be done! He sighed heavily, and stepped forward, ready to get it over with.

There was one last thing that Renathan had told himself that he would do today other than of course get the entire place cleaned up; and that was going to be coming a bit later in the day. The truth was that Renathan had finally gotten the last breedable creature that he had been waffling on getting into. She wasn't technically something special; a common lotine, but Renathan thought that those were some of the prettier ones available too. Especially since he wasn't going to be doing a ton of lotine breeding, after all. There was no real point of getting a billion of them, so a common lotine would be nice to get used to in order to figure out how much Renathan liked them. For now, however, he was still awaiting the shipment. Renathan stooped down on the lowest terrace, careful not to step on any of the good plants.

There were weeds everywhere around Renathan's feet, and he needed to be able to get them all. Renathan needed to be able to focus on the task at hand, which was certainly going to be difficult with all of the things he was wanting to get done in this short amount of time. He really didn't need to be taking time off of his job in order to do this, not t all in fact. It was trouble for sure, however it was important to do, even if he didn't want to. The mammalian crouched down and began pulling up weeds. Perhaps it would have been more prudent to have put some stopgaps into place for weeds like this? Renathan's mind turned back to the creatures that were newly making their homes here today as he continued to pull the troublesome weeds from his terraces. It was hard work, but thinking about the creatures made him feel a bit better.

Renathan really needed to be at work well, working, and not out here doing this. He had thought that a garden would be a good idea because he had a lot of time on his hands, but that had changed since. Now he had a bit of a dilemma; he really needed to be able to work with his creatures, but he also would continue to have less and less time as they continued. Renathan continued pulling up the weeds on the terrace; with a little more force now that he was letting out some frustration. Things hadn't been going all that well here lately, and he needed to get things worked out. However, kneeling in the loam and thinking while pulling weeds out of the terraces was therapeutic in a way, even if he had a lot going on that the moment. He had to think of a way to balance everything.

Balancing things was going to be the real conundrum though, even if he did try to think of it in other ways. However, it couldn't be run from, just like any of the other issues that he had. For one, he needed to come up with another job for Shy Guy. Shy Guy was a working creature by heart, and now that he wasn't a pit battler anymore, Renathan really needed to move on to other things. But what else could a creature trained for pit battles do? He would be a great escort into the wilds if Renathan wanted to go, but right now he honestly didn't even want to go to the beyond ever. He was happy to be in the labs, honestly. However, he had to think of what to do now. Shy Guy was of course a mount, and he could serve as Renathan's main mount again after he healed, right?

Sure, the healers had done their job well, and Shy Guy's body looked as good as new after all of that, however, Renathan could feel that he still felt the phantom pains. It was difficult to deal with, but he needed Renathan now more than ever. Renathan grit his teeth beneath the mask as he struggled not to think too much about that. It was a huge sore spot and perhaps had always been since it happened. He was less sick over it now, and more angry. He felt a bit... Like it wasn't entirely his fault that Shy Guy had lost. He'd been blaming himself this whole time, because really they didn't have a shot in the dark against anything. However; now that it had been in a few weeks Renathan was having to tell himself, remind himself, that not everything was his fault all the time. The terrace, now that he was done thinking of that, was surprisingly weed-free.

Renathan had perhaps done more neglecting than he had meant to, over all this time, but he was at least glad that there weren't as many weeds up on the terrace as he had expected. There were so many creatures here in his gardens now, and probably only more on the way in the future, instead of less. That was fine, of course. He had brought them here because with the right balance of creatures, his garden would basically hardly ever require an actual personal touch. The critters would take care of most of the issues that could arise. That was actually where he expected that those 'missing' weeds had went off to; perhaps the pachee had eaten them? Sure, pachee didn't have mouths, but they sure did seem to be able to drain the nutrients out of things with their paws. That was actually a little bit creepy, in all honesty.

That was just the thing about being alive though; energy needed to be taken in. Most types of things couldn't just synthesize their own energy completely, as nutrients were needed. What was the best way to bring nutrients to the earth or to the roots as plants, than technically to take it from others? Even the plant creatures seemed to be at least a little predatory in some ways. Renathan would have to watch this curiously from here on out, he was pretty interested to know about them. They didn't have anything like this, back where he had come from, in his homeland. So he didn't really have anything to base any knowledge of these creatures off of, it was all basically guesswork for him. The labs weren't too forthcoming with information either, not that he was at all surprised. Beggars can't be choosers though, right? There was nothing else like the lab in the whole world.

Renathan's own people were in some ways a lot more technologically advanced than this area; but also, they didn't have magic to rely on. Most Crimsii could not use magic; and most of the ones that lived outside of their homeland were the rare ones that could, it was part of that experience actually. So it made sense, perhaps, that Pethia was not entirely as advanced in that way, when they could generally use magic more commonly than his own people; even though it still seemed rare. Now the Labs, the Labs City was different. Very technologically advanced, though a different sort than his own people. Renathan thought about this as he pulled the fertilizer pellets from his backpack, and went to toss them out across the terraces for the plants he had planted there. There wasn't really anything else like the Labs anywhere, let alone in Pethia. Sure, Renathan was curious.

Renathan was perhaps a little less curious than some of the other individuals that they knew of in the city. In fact, he was much less curious about certain things. Renathan knew where to keep his nose out of, where it was smart to stay away from in order to keep life and limb intact. Everywhere had their secrets, in his homeland and here, Pethia was no different. Renathan had no reason to feel like it would be any different here, regardless. However, Renathan did worry about the people that seemed to be dipping their toes in a little too far, or rather, the person he knew. The mammalian tended not to get into anyone else's business; his own business was difficult enough to deal with on his own, but he did worry about others fairly easily. It was in his culture, and in his blood, to accidentally form a household of sorts, and Pethia had not changed that.

Of course, Renathan was not truly interested in making an actual household here. He didn't have the time nor the inclination, and of course no one in Pethia would even understand what that was or be inclined to be in one. Heck, if Renathan had wanted to join or make a household, he would have just done so in his homeland instead of leaving for Pethia. However, Renathan did naturally take to some individuals more often than others, and he was naturally concerned with them. Jack of course was... Wow, she was something else! Renathan couldn't help but care for her so much, and he was... Worried about her a lot of course. But also, the kid was well, like a kid. Like having a lamb around, and Renathan was naturally inclined to try to teach and encourage such individuals. It was... Difficult, to say the least. His culture didn't just drop away because he moved to Pethia. Renathan barely noticed that he had stopped, standing along the terraces, with some of the pellets in his hand.

Renathan felt a little lonely, in his garden. Of course Auburn was not with him, since he was using that magic thing that he tended to use to keep her out of danger, but someday maybe he would bring her here, too? He'd have to learn more about the garden creatures before then, though. He wanted to keep her safe, and thought it would be terrible if he didn't. So he tried to leave her at home in her well-stocked aviary, using his magic to do so, while he was gone. That way she could play. Sure, at first she seemed to hate it when he was gone, he could feel it even this far away, but now she seemed to think it normal. It was really for the best, and he was never gone all that long, anyway. Still, he had to think more about her safety than general happiness.

Working the gardens was an enjoyable thing, because Renathan could still work while he was thinking, and he enjoyed being able to think around quiet places. He tended to think a lot on mining trips, mansion trips, and even some training trips. Speaking of the mansion, he hadn't been there in a long while... Renathan would have to go and work on it sooner or later. He had so much to do recently that he really couldn't keep up like he wanted to. It was a shame, because it was only going to get worse from here as the cold set in. Lots of individuals in the Labs tended to 'lock up shop' during the winter, often seen less and less outside of their homes. Renathan had done so last winter, as well. He had gone through seasonal depression; after all, it was hardly ever cold where he came from, and he still wasn't used to winter much.

Renathan had just last year, however, seen something quite neat for the first time; snow. He'd never before seen snow, not once, so it was baffling. He'd heard about it, sure, but he didn't have any real concept of it that could be mentally figured. He knew that it was some form of cold precipitation, and it made sense. To his knowledge, it only ever precipitated water, and when water got cold, it turned into a kind of cubic thing and then, of course, ice cubes. So he had tried to picture it in his head; at first he pictured ice cubes falling out of the sky. He was told that it wasn't ice cubes, though apparently sometimes it 'hails' sometimes, and that is what ice cube rain was. However, they said it was something in-between that and that. Sometimes, rarely, it frosted in places, in the morning, that Renathan had lived before.
