That was the sort of quirks that the mansion seemed to have. Was it leaning that hard last year? The human took their glasses off, for a moment in-between grabbing a new fish for Perdita, and squinted. It had to be leaning moreso than last year. What a strange thing, they thought. They couldn't really trust their eyes all that much, as they had stayed up most of the night before working. They had been so overworked recently, and had very little adventuring time to show for it either. Hopefully, the newest project would be completed soon.
For now, Morgan placed their glasses back on, and reached around to grab another fish from the pack they were carrying for them. Soon, they would run out of the fish, and they would have to rely on Perdita wanting to come to them for preserved treats, and Morgan wasn't sure how well that was going to work.

The human did not plan to be here with Perdita long, at least. They wanted to scope out the area this morning (early in the morning) and then, if all was good, come back later with another of their beasts. They had taken on a lot more responsibility with pets recently, and they wanted to start a few different projects all at once. For now, they would take Perdita out at least once a month, to get her used to going outside of the gardens without anxiety, and then Morgan planned to train her. Train her what? The bespectacled human had no earthly idea as to what they were going to train her, but it was a long term goal, at least.
Perdita followed Morgan all the way to the gate, and Morgan finally turned around to look at the inner gate. They weren't planning on crossing past it, they needn't to for now.

Is that...? A järvivaimo watches your approach from across the sands, cautious. Around it are scattered a few trinkets and shells.

Morgan simply turned back, hoped that Perdita would stay where she was (perhaps that could go on their list of things to eventually train her) and then glanced back towards the gate. This month, the black metal gate was decorated with conch shells, and reached down far below the shifting sands of the desert. The entire thing was leaned in quite a funny manner, and it was snaggled here and there with a white picket fence that also leaned, and was decorated with nets and various pieces of what looked to be seaglass. The human knew very well not to take anything from the gate itself, but they couldn't help but glance over it anyway. It was quite pretty this month. Beyond that stretched a goodly amount of sand. It was not like the sand at the edge of the river in the canyon at all- something smoother and more fine.
-
And beyond that, there was something... A creature? Now the human's interest was piqued. They snuck out onto the sands past the open gate. Perdita did not dare go beyond the gate, and sat back to watch as Morgan carefully came out onto the sands, closer to the green creature. "Why, hello there, cr-critter?"

The järvivaimo doesn't seem to know what to make of you. Is it... shy? It sidles sideways behind a protruding sand dune, but is curious enough to leave its head poking out, to observe your movements. At least it doesn't seem aggressive. It awaits your next move.

Morgan had certainly not been expecting to actually see any creature at all this morning. It was supposed to be a little scouting trip, to get Perdita used to them, but they were not about to let this opportunity go to waste. The human got to a position where they could see the creature's little head poking up (what was it? Some kind of green thing, it looks like- is that aquatic? Surely not) but they don't move too close. There was no need to scare the thing off. The human put both hands in their pockets for a moment, searching for anything that might be edible, and drew out one of the little treats that was meant for Perdita later. Morgan had enough of them that they were sure that they weren't going to run out later, so they held that out, crouched down, and shuffling forward ever so slowly. "D-do you want a treat, little un?" Perdita watched through the gate. Hey! Weren't those treats for her?[8]

The järvivaimo can smell the treat nigh instantly, and more of its body becomes visible as it moves forwards. It sticks to the pools of water found between the patches of sand as it approaches; once it is close enough to take the treat, it does so, slowly and gently. It tastes nice. It keeps looking at you, trying to decipher any more clues as to whether you are friend or foe.

Both Morgan and Perdita got a better look now that the strange green creature was interested in the treat. Morgan continued to hold it out, but was completely mesmerized by the strange undulating sort of movement. It seemed to stick to the water, which made sense, but it was still incredibly amazing to watch it get closer. What was this thing? It was certainly aquatic by the looks of all of the fins and the gentle movements of such. It looked incredibly delicate, but a little bigger than Morgan was expecting. Still, the human was completely unafraid as they held out the treat towards the critter. Perdita, on the other hand, was quite glad that she was on the other side of the gate. That thing looked like nothing she'd ever seen before, and it was scary.
Morgan allowed the treat to be taken and smoothly tucked their other hand into their pocket to retrieve another. "H-here you go, c-critter." The human said, leaning out slowly to show the creature the next treat.

The creature is a thing of wonder in itself, but finds you far more interesting than its own rippling body! You have food aplenty, and that is something it can appreciate, even if it is shy. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to stick around? It can get confusing, searching for a meal in an ever-changing mansion.
[Congratulations, you have successfully tamed the creature!]

It was not often that Morgan got the chance to try to capture a creature at the mansion, and when they did see one they did not let that opportunity go to waste. Even if it meant taking some of the time that was meant to go to Perdita out to go catch the creature. For Morgan, 'catch' usually meant to persuade a critter with food, and this was not the first time that they had done that either. It worked well this time, as it had each time before, so Morgan knew it was about time to go home with Perdita and this new creature, scouting trip going well or no. "Alright you, I-I guess you an' Perdita are gonna have ta share." Morgan nodded, before turning around, waving the treat. "Now, let's see i-if I kin get you home." Morgan said, beginning the slow walk home by getting the new creature out to the gate.
A quick check for anything of interest, and Morgan heads home momentarily with the two creatures.

Morgan had brought home both creatures, and went ahead and secured Perdita within the garden before finishing up the morning chores and attempting to figure out exactly which creature needed more attention now. They knew that if they went this evening out to the mansion, that they would probably wind up staying over the turn-of-month. It wasn't exactly a desirable prospect, but after spending most of the day with the tat-lung family and Millicent, Morgan found theirself standing at the mansion's outer gate with a rather stubborn half-pint of an equillion cross. His name was 'Coy' apparently (Not one that Morgan had chosen, that was for certain), and he was about the size of a dog, while appearing for all intents and purposes to be a mule with extra toes. It was a strange cross- one of two that apparently existed. The 'son' of an equillion that the Jackalope could hardly bare to care for to the point to where Morgan had wound up with him.
This small creature would be the first project, for now anyway.

For what it was worth, Coy was simple to deal with due to his size. Morgan was not a very large human, and it also didn't help that they had a rather delicate constitution. These two things culminated in a miniature battle in which Morgan attempted to drag the stubborn beast by a lead, and the proud creature locked his legs to where he would not be moved easily. It would be quite funny, Morgan thought, to compare this to an unstoppable force and an immovable object, if it were not for the fact that Morgan was easily too weak to properly drag such a stubborn beast and instead pulled him stop-and-start across the outer grounds of the mansion to the outermost gate. Finally, frustrated and with sore arms, Morgan held the rope taut but stopped trying to pull him. He was not injured, of course- the creature was not that delicate. Morgan, on the other hand, was quite exhausted already.

The human huffed, and blew the bangs out of their eyes for a moment, tossing their head slightly at the same time to get them completely out of their face. At the same time, the small equillion-cross snorted through his nose and gave a soft half-whinny that sounded rather suspiciously like a soft drawn out 'boop' or something like that. Morgan would have patted him, and even had the urge to do so, but managed to keep theirself from doing it. He was a bit of a nipper, as they had noted, and he seemed to have some sort of corrosive acid in his mouth. Morgan was not pleased to figure that out, especially since they had found it out along the way, and they hadn't really brought anything to properly handle that. Now, they were sort of stuck with him. They didn't want to waste any time, since they didn't have much time to explore in the mansion this month.

After a bit of a breather for the both of them, Morgan dug around in one of their incredibly deep pockets (they were working on a technology to make them even deeper, in the future) and finally pulled out what they were looking for- a small rucksack of apples. Apparently, these were the favorite food of at least one member of the herd that they had become the new owner of (dragons were their favorites, but unicorns were pretty cool too- really, Morgan loved any cryptid) and Morgan hoped that this little arrogant creature wouldn't turn one down, either. At first, the stubborn little princelet refused to so much as look at Morgan. This went on for at least five minutes, until Morgan finally decided to give up (they'd been shoving it in his face for quite some time, and he kept pointedly looking as far away as possible from it).
