"Nice lil' pounce! Lethalia laughed, though Utu's face came out of the sandy water without any prizes to show for their efforts. "How 'bou this'un?" she asked, dipping her finger beneath the water to scare a minnow that was hiding in plain sight. Utu hadn't even seen it despite the treat being right in front of their nose. Another big splash of water and the satyr's giggling, and suddenly Leth was aware of Juniper looming over them both. She wasn't trying to look particularly imposing, but she was trying to get over and see just what they were having fun with without here. "Heya June-bug," Lethalia greeted, grinning at the minnow Utu surfaced with. "Somehow I was thinkin' these migh' be too small for 'ya." Try as she might, even hatchlings wouldn't find much success in hunting the specks of fish. Better leave that size of game to her pocket pet - she just didn't realize it yet. July|6 pounce|1

"Hey, y'were jus'happy lookin! Not fair stealin' the teensy one's food!" Lethalia laughed as Juniper pushed forward to try and get a look at Utu's hard won morsel before the satyr swatted her muzzle away. "Go'n get'cha own," Leth commanded, with enough force that Juniper looked into the pool she was pointing to. Little more than scant clear fish that glinted silver in the sun that would run like as much quicksilver between her claws, and spined things that looked like they were more toruble than they were worth. Still, did that word she was using with Utu mean that there was something worthwile to be throwing herself at in the captured tides? "Sic'em! That[/u]'un,"[/b] Lethalia pointed out - the largest fish in the 'pond', even if that one was tiny as well. If Juniper squinted, barely making out a fat bottom feeder she might manage to get her claws on. July|7 pounce|2

It would've deterred most adult sarane who would never bother with such a miniscule gulp of food, but Juni wasn't aware she was a full-grown hen yet. Everything Leth was throwing at that problem and Juniper hat yet to realize her own size. Proven when she got sights of that bigger fish, sitting still as if it still thought itself as hidden and stoic as a pond bed rock, and like she thought it was a snack worth the effort. This time the satyr had plenty of warning to scramble to her feet and get out of the way. Juniper couched down low in the front, hind end wiggling with excited bristled tailspines, only patient enough to pose there for mere moments before she launched herself at the targeted fish. A small torrent of water rose at the hen's entire bulk smashing into the diminutive pool, displacing most of the water within it. July|8 pounce|3

"Well. Good, Juni!" Lethalia chimed sweetly, even if Juniper didn't appear near as thrilled with her empty claws. The satyr could afford to be so chipper since she avoided the most of the water torrent, for now! It was going to happen eventually and she was dressed for the occasion, but she'd still choose water less full of wildlife. "C'mon Juni, getcha' better luck elsewhere." If there had been any likely prey in that pool previously, it had either been forcefully ejected or was now in hiding in what scant water remained. Lucily for her, there were other options now that she'd utterly rined her chances of hooking anything in here. First pool was as good as any to mess up; hopefully the mansion didn't get upset at them for it. (She was also secretly happy June didn't come in contact with any of the more wicked looking fishies in there. Phew.) July|9 pounce|4

Once in a while Leth would think to worry about where Utu had gotten off to, but it was typically unfounded. Juniper's miniature clone would probably reappear once the mouthful of minnows they'd caught had been devoured. Plus perhaps another several beached by June. Lethalia left Juniper dejectedly pawing at her depeleted puddle - there were more than enough to hold their attention. Like this tiny one, less than a yard or so across, at first glance full of mossy black rocks. If she stared into the pool long enough, the satyr could make out tiny legs beneath the rocks that marched the living stones at an unhurried pace. Though she could sic June on some harmless isopods, as much as she hated bugs it felt a little unfair. But it did give her an idea. For her purposes there were plenty of usable decoys around, surrounded by smoothed marine stones barely several steps into the mansion grounds. Juniper lv|22 ly|22 July|10 pounce|5

Picking up one such stone and dipping it into the tiny isopod populated pool, Lethalia hollered out for the hen. She perked up pretty quickly at something to do other than mourn the pool she destroyed. Juniper looked up in time to see her owner reach into one of the pools, chucking one of the ball-shaped creatures off to the side. It sprayed sand with it's weighty landing, and the hen was almost ahead of her owner calling out "Get'em, Juni!" The hen coiled up and cleared the remaining distance between her and the rock with an almost-graceful pounce. Nearly like she knew what she was doing, Juniper landed skidding in the sand with her tail lashing, claws splayed out in front of her like she was afraid to lift them to let her prey get away. "Hey, g'work June-bug!" the satyr couldn't help but praise, even as the hen remained still with her prize for some time after. July|11 pounce|6

Definitely did take her a moment to compute that the thing beneath her claws, however impressively she'd stuck that landing, hadn't twitched a single time since she'd clasped it's cold clammy surface. Not even a little dying twitch to know she'd landed true. Juniper finally dared lift a claw, more boldly removing herself when there proved to be no movement from the sand-buried... rock. Leth thought the hen was almost so upset she was going to refuse her reward and sweet words. A 'big girl' snack was more in order nowadays, and the satyr had brought along a sarane favorite of especially meaty marrow bones, sawn down into hand-sized pieces. She found it a little more tolerable to deal with than 'whole food'. Juniper might've been mildly upset at her trick, but this treat was way too new and savory to decline the first mouth-watering bone chunk held out to her. Peace offering accepted. July|12 pounce|7

Juniper might not realize the extent of her strength, but shattered the wrist-thick bone with a quick toss to her crushing molars and a thoughtless crunch or two. Lethalia made note to keep even further away from the hen's jaws than she already did. Like Vay, this hen was formidable in her own right. It was just going to take time to bring about her full potential. Smacking her jaws and grinding out the last of the bone fibres between them, Juniper looked right back to the source for more. "Naw, gotta' work for it," Lethalia informed her, closing the bag of sarane-treats when Juniper's gaze honed in on them. "I know, y'not used'ta it yet," the satyr lamented in a playful whine, mildly poking fun at the crestfallen look on the hen's face. Knowing how well fed her creatures were, she had so ground to feel guilty - June wasn't about to starve along the way working for her lunch. July|13 pounce|8

What else did they have? Lethalia attempted to retrieve her rock out of the sand and throw it for June again, but no dice. It had already been deemed boring and not worth chasing by her, and so she'd do no such thing. Trying as a growing creature was, these were good signs in the hen, the fact she was becoming a little more independant and stubborn. Leth hoped to see more of both, if not too much. With Rimefang's blood running through her veins, there was no telling what her personality would look like once she was done going through this awkward stage. Just barely, Leth caught the twitch of the long seagrass growing in clumps, the barest movement of a rather fat rat poking it's head out from betwen the blades. "Juni! Sic'em!" Lethalia patted June's shoulder and pointed out the rodent, taking a few moments before the hen's eyes focused and narrowed down on the unfortunate creature. July|14 pounce|9

Leth almost felt like she ought to feel bad about tying such a goofy command to the act of throwing herself at something, but oh well. Juniper was responding to it; too late now. As hoped Juniper stilled and bunched herself up once more, blue gaze locked onto her prey. Did she realize it was a treat hardly worth tossing down her gulllet at this point? This practice might be going towards helping that become more apparent. Well, at least it left them with no shortage of targets if she still had the hatchling urge to chase anything that may fit into her mouth. Much like the too-small tide pool, Juniper crashed into the cluster of grass with far more force than was strictly nessicary - Leth cringed a little. Even if she had sent June after the rat... getting squished to death was a rather gruesome end. Still, the satyr cheered on her hen, "Good! Got'em, yay!" Juniper lv|23 ly|23 July|15 pounce|10

Yeah, it was a decent sign when Juniper started giving a pretty god side-eye her owner's over the top celebrations. Not that it would stop the woman in any way, but Leth was keeping her eye out for the smallest indicators the white hen was maturing at all. The smallest of changes, like glowering instead of getting excited at baby-talk, that would make all the difference in the end. Heartened by their progress, Lethalia wondered how strong Juniper's association with the command was just yet, especially when she would decide to be bratty and not do it when her owner asked. "June!" Well, the hen near always responded to her name, blue eyes snapping up to scan the horizon of where her owner's voice had come from. Sometimes the woman had something annoying for her, and others she had something delicious. It was usually worth checking out the satyr's hollering because she'd get rewarded for doing just that. "Sic'em!" Lethalia commanded, pointing out an abandoned umbrella sitting among the tide puddles. It was a blossoming of color unseen in the natural tones of the marine life surrounding it, wide rainbow stripes making for a jarring clash with the calm surroundings. Since she'd gotten a pretty compelling treat last time, Juniper was rather more compelled to go along with her owner's direction. Sometimes it even got the woman's chattering to stop for a little while, if she did it right! So... okay. Jumping on a weird prismatic human thing for another bite of a meal? Not a bad exchange. With her little bit of work in the gym, Juniper managed to make her coil and release look nearly effortless. She was getting better at measuring the distance between herself and something, and how much force she would need coiled in her muscles to get her entire mass over there. She was actually thinking these things through!! July|17 pounce|12

Juniper might not have looked like much; a tiny hen sitting on an utterly tattered umbrella, the rainbow fabric reflecting attractively off of her shining white scales. So perhaps murdering a poor unsuspecting umbrella might not be a typical goal of a sarane's capabilities. With this hen, mauling the umbrella wasn't so much the marvel as much as the hen managing a clean pounce upon it. She hadn't so much as tripped this time! "G'work, Juni," Lethalia praised, a stupid grin seemingly etched on her face for the rest of the day. She hurried to grab her hen another good treat, the thing she actually wanted as opposed to empty words one couldn't eat. "Nice'a 'ya t'cause a rukus n' dissappear. Welcome back, Utu," Lethalia hailed the cliff jumper as they made their reappearance. Well, the pocket pet had given her the idea for training, so it wasn't all bad. July|18 pounce|14 end

"Anythin' else interestin' ou there?" Lethalia queried, but Utu was keeping the secrets to themselves. Not the most useful kind of scout. She turned to Juniper still licking her lips from the last morsel, beckoning the hen along. "C'mon, lessgo figgure out somethin' else for 'ya t'earn lunch on."It was nice to be able to explore the outside of the mansion again, too. Seemed like it'd been ages since the place had let her simply trapese through it's luxuriant front yard, the one that could become just as labarynth like as the innards of the house. Even so being outside of it's four walls made her feel like she had more control over the situation. Surely she could get lost outside in the jungles (or whatever it's whims were that month) of the back yard, but that felt more escapable than the belly of a cavern somewhere inside the mansion. 'Control' over this place was out of anybody's reach. Once she'd come to terms with that, and knowing there hadn't been very many reported casualties, it became easier to try and enjoy the place. That sunbleached driftwood tower in the background still sent a prickle up her spine whenever she faced away from it. A look at Juniper for the reminder of what the place was capable of, and Leth reasoned this might be a brief trip anyway. Juniper was still dogging her for treats too, able to smell and bump her big head into the bag that held them. It was only a little inconvinent as they were walking down the path; Lethalia shooed her away to no avail. When the hen came rounding back again, Lethalia sighed and decided the first few 'nos' she'd recieved were plenty. Scooping up a handful of tiny pebbles from along the walkway, she tossed one halfheartedly at Juni's begging face. Juniper lv|24 ly|24 July|20 danger sense|1
