"June? Lessgo'n try it, girlie," Lethalia called reflexively when there wasn't a hen following her up to the door. There wasn't a lot more to do outside, even if she agreed with Juniper and would linger outside if she could. Only so much one could do with tide pools and old beach equipment, as much as they'd expended their use earlier. "It'll be fine, c'mon," she reasoned with absolutely no basis at all. She literally couldn't even try and say that things 'usually' worked out here! There was nothing to lend to that condifence other than a want to go in and explore; Juiper's hardening bue eyes were certainly putting that plan into question. "June, lessgo, I becta there's treats," Lethalia attempted again, getting the hen's frilled ears perking at the magical word. She'd brought treats to follow up on her offer if she needed to make good on that offer. Juniper lv|35 ly|35 July|35

"Yeah! See, s'fine, c'mon now," Leth continued to chime, a chipper tone to encourage June now that she'd decided she would come along into the strange human house. The driftwood creaked and complained underfoot with the hen's weight upon it, it's groan like Lethalia had imagined those giant seafaring vessels would sound if you were within them. It cast some doubt that June could go in - but then the tower teetered at the merest wind, moaning ominously once more. Well - if the rickety complained about everything, the hen's weight should be just fine. Once more, the hen looked a lot more concerned about the grumbling building than her owner was. "C'mon, June," Lethalia beckoned, pushing the door open and beckoning to the hen before she lost her own nerve to go in. They needed a change of scenery something desperate, and Leth was determined to make that happen. July|36

Lethalia opened the driftwood panel to complete darkness. Why did it always have to be dark? The unlit hallway looked ominous, but the fact that she could even see the hallway was better than previous visits. Why was she bringing the light-lineaged hen when she could be bringing one of the blacks that could see right through the darkness? The world may never know the answer to her choices when she didn't even wholly understand them. "Well? Ready?"It seemed like the outside air ought to have smelled plenty like the sea with it's tidepools, which weren't entirely supposed to smell good. But once they set foot in that hallway, Leth quickly grabbed the hem of her shirt to flip over her nose - ugh! If outside was a beach, inside was a plain old fishing trawler. "Thinkin' ya'like fish?" Lethalia asked Juniper's perked stance. July|37

June had only been as formally introduced to seafood as the unfortunate few fish that found themselves caught downstream in their little lake. Leth had seen her catch a few, but it was rare that a fish made it far down the canyon river to make it all the way to their little lick of the waterway. Still, it had made enough of an impression on her that the smell of the briny air in here seemed to appeal to her - of course it would. (Lakes didn't always smell great.) June's nose was held aloft, breathing deeply of the scents of slightly-familar fish and the curious tang of saltwater. There was a kind of quality to seawater that was so deeply different than anything else; it would be a fun trip for the hen, Leth hoped. At least it wasn't quite as dark as she'd thought it would be, now that the door closed behind them. July|38

It was less brilliant than the summer sunlight in here alright, but a skylight at the 'top' of the tower let in plenty of it's glow. That window into the driftwood above was almost blinding with the sun's glare on that pristine white wood. A few nets were tied on the way up the tower, their bright colors wafting in the breeze from outside. For once, it almost felt like they weren't trapped in some kind of impregnable prison. While she'd been busy gawking at the ceiling, Juniper had swiftly moved on without her. Right, that was the problem with bringing big creatures to the mansion - they were less attached to your hip. It was a bit harder to prevent a creature who recently learned she had no fear from being a bit foolhardy for a while. It was natural when they first learned they felt invincible, until something actually happened of course. July|39

Then sometimes karma doesn't take hold for you, and you end up with a brat like her drake even with getting his butt handed to him. There was no winning with the creatures, sometimes. Still, she was confident enough that letting Juniper handle anything she could herself was a good thing. Lethalia hurried after the flick of her thorned tail before she lost it, not willing to leave anything up to chance once they were out of sight around here. She had some destination in mind; Lethalia realized with a small sigh that she was probably going to try and find whatever was causing the armoa that was lovely only to her nose. Ah well, this is what she got when it was the hen's adventure, then. That's what she got for deciding to let her lead this one - probably the same result as if she let most creatures lead. Lethalia had to appreciate all of the fishing gear lining the walls, a soft hand on Juniper's shoulder so she couldn't lose her. It couldn't be just magic, someone somewhere had a lot of fun setting this up. There were exotic mounts of fish over every cooridor brancing off of the main room, and this one had charming lights that looked like buoys against the bleach white driftwood. There had to be the crossed fishing poles or nets in a few different places, and those little boards full of shing flies that looked like they took a masterful hand to complete. Leth only wished she knew more about fishing, but she would just have to make sure she went and got that experience for herself. As much as she wanted to pocket some of the gorgeous lures, something stayed her hand. Who knew what the mansion was 'aware' of, much less took offense over? Best not leave it up to chance. July|41

Juniper looked a little concerned about the corridor 'ending', but Leth soothed her and reached ahead for the door before the hen could attempt turning around in the narrow hall. There was definitely something bright when the door opened a crack - blindingly so, almost more than the sun had been. June sniffed the cracked door deeply, attempting to nudge it open further with her nose, and then pushing a little bit harder with her entire head when the door didn't open right away. There was defiitely something she wanted in there, alright It got wedged on something, creaking and pushing up against something that crunched even when Lethalia added her strength. Lethalia looked underfoot shen she realized cold had began to permeate her forward hoof. Was that a smear of snow from beneath the door?! Juniper's paw hit it too - but she just about hit the roof upon placing her scales on the slick cold. July|42

The snow burned in a way and tingled with it's cold crunch, a sensation she'd never experienced before. Her tailspines puffed out and the hen let out a little screech, deeply offended and backing away in a hurry to get her paw out of that! "Hey! Good screech," Lethalia chimed and praised, even if she was trying to hide her giggling as she did so. June took the treat, utterly and completely lost when she did so. Why was she - what?! The satyr had hoped on teaching her how to screech on demand. Juni didn't make as many vocalizations as her dam, but she definitely made her fair share of nose when she was facing down Esti. There were only so many things that could inspire that same ire. So she'd do the next best thing, if she could get June to understand the word associated with, well, screaming they would be in good shape. July|43 screech|1

"Wanna try again?" Leth asked, because it really did seem like Juniper had wanted whatever was behind this door. Might as well force the hen to go through with the adventure she'd chosen. Apparently, she had not been counting snow being on this one - Leth hadn't either, to be fair. Juniper sniffed the cold stuff to see if she could figure out what the heck it was. She reached a catlike paw out with all of her claws splayed, leaning as far as she possibly could away from the wicked stuff to lightly rake her pawpads over it. Just like that, when a few snowflakes clung to her pads, June flailed and made an odd noise (not enough to reward as a screech, that time.). That paw wound back up and came down on the snow, batting it heavily a few times for good measure, just so it knew what she thought of it. July|44

Leth snorted , breaking under the effort it took to not burst at the seams laughing at the sight. She'd never even thought about it before. A white hen hatched during the summer who had never seen the snow, much less was afraid of the very stuff she could whip up under her own power! "Got it?" she confirmed, looking down at the hen's wild blue eyes. Well, that was eventful, but they were still going into the snow room whether Jube thought she was keen on it or not. Bracing herself, Lethalia took a good lunge at the door - only to find it easily swining open under her weight this time, the mound of snow simply giving way compared to the previous blockade it provided. Leth staggered, only slipping a little bit on the bit of ice that greeted her just inside of the kitchen floor. Juniper lv|37 ly|37 July|45

Juniper gawped after her owner, amazed at the woman's willingness to touch the bitter stuff! She scuttled a little bit closer to get a look, but tucked her toes just outside of the snow's reach. Admittedly Leth hadn't been expecting to see snow in the mansion this time of year either, but she wasn't nearly as completely offended by it as June was. "Good t'know y'got me, June," Lethalia laughed. How would this poor girl fare in the winter? Surely she knew very well that she herself produced this stuff, didn't she? "Comin' in, June?" she continued, holding her hand out to Juniper in encouragement. The hen looked deeply contemplative over her beckoning, and there was those good smells here she'd been wanting to invesigate. Hm - she lifted a single paw, barely so much as touching it before letting out a screech nearly as full-bodied as at another hen. July|46 screech|2

Leth should have brought earplugs for this venure - or earmuffs now that the mansion wanted to take them on a polar venture. Still, she told the hen happily "Good screech!" and gave her a meat treat, while still hoping she wasn't encouraging a fear of the snow. Wouldn't that be the crulest of tricks to play on a creature meant to literally live in it? Leth was as entertained by the idea as she was horrified by the thought of accidentally doing it. "Okay, another! Screech, June!" Juniper growled, almost hissing at her owner with the exhale through her nostrils. "Close," Leth informed her, undeterred by her unwillingness to play that game. "C'mon, jus' a lil'bit more, girlie!" she crowed, but Juniper really wasn't having any of this human nonsense or figuring out whatever it was her human was trying to tie together, even though she knew the woman wouldn't stop bothering her until she did figure it out. "Okay, well'n..." Lethalia trailed off, wafting a few feet more into the room. Juniper looked at her oddly, distinctly distressed her owner was a swath of that awful snow away from her. "Guess I'mm go'n jus... look 'round on m'own..." She didn't so much duck behind the door as she slid behind it, but she could still watch Juniper's reaction through the slat with an entertained smile. She grumbled a little, sniffing the air and trying to smell her human over all of the much more pungent smells in the air. Those lacy ears strained to hear the woman who was always making noise, twitching with concern when she somehow wasn't making any right now. Juniper's screech was unsure and wavering, but repeated a second time much more forcefully when Lethalia popped back out with a crow of "Yeah June, good screech!" No, the hen didn't sound like she enjoyed that one. July|48 screech|4

Lethalia was sure to toss her hen a treat for all of her efforts. For once in her life the hen didn't instantly gobble it up, still fixing her owner with a stare that was quite clear she did not approve of that! They would get a brood mother's frightening stare installed into Juniper yet. After holding it in for this time, Lethalia snorted and the floodgates opened, unable to help but let loose all of the laughter pent up until now. Juniper tried so hard, and she was doing so good, but gods if she wasn't pretty goofy a lot of the time too. Junioper's tail thumped on the ground, snapping her out of her own reverie. What was her human doing?! She didn't understand the human's laugh anyway, but in this situation when she was dealing with the stress of the snow monster - what did that mean?! July|49 screech|5
