For now though, her greatest interests were not “staring contemplatively into the distance”, it was “chewing on Fiera’s hand while she’s trying to pick bits of gross rotten leaves off your head” and “forget how to swim right side up for a solid 15 minutes and get very upset about it”. She was a very interesting creature to be raising to say the least. Still, Fiera had been doing her best with it and now Serendipity was able to keep herself upright a solid seventy percent of the time, which was much improved from when Fiera first got her. Still, she was an infant of… whatever species she was, and the humanish couldn’t keep her hopes for the little creature TOO high. Still, that was the point of their little outing today- to get Serendipity some much needed experience with the world in general and the things that it held.

Granted, this place at this time of year didn't show off much of the rough stuff the world had to offer. It was bright and beautiful and pleasant, but still had plenty of new things. Flowers, trees, grass... Though Fiera had to admit, she hadn't seen the species of any of these before. They almost looked fake- too uniform, too close to the dirt. Grass within forests normally grew in scattered clumps instead of vast fields and tracts due to the lack of light, pushing their way up between drifts of fallen leaves. And yet here the grass grew everywhere the eye could see, stopping only when it reached the roots of the trees as if trying to be polite. Upon closer inspection, she realized all of the blades were the exact same length too, as if carefully trimmed by an unseen groundskeeper. And yet... none of them had their tops sliced off.

Each one came to the exact same fine point as all the others, and was a shade of green so bright it almost looked sickly. They COULDN'T be real... and yet they smelled like plants and when Fiera went to yank up a clump, a clod of dirt and roots came with it. "...I guess they are real plants. Well. Magic constructs of real plants. But you know." She said to Serendipity, who couldn't really care less. Still, Fiera handed the clump to the little creature and she immediately began to play with it, shaking her head playfully and staining the water around her dark with dirt as it washed into the water. Fiera chuckled. One clump of dirt wasn't going to get the pond THAT dirty, and she was having a lot of fun as it was. She could afford to let her play with it for a while.

With her pet distracted and splashing about, Fiera turned her attention to other things. Looking around, she realized the trees too were off... though her first clue wasn't the plants themselves. It was when her gaze was still trained on the grass. As mentioned, normally grass poked up around fallen leaves but... there were none to be found here. The grass stretched far and away, identical all the way back to the mansion, but despite the trees being full and bushy with the vigor of spring, there was not a single leaf on the ground. She knew trees weren't as likely to drop their foliage in the spring as opposed to in the autumn, but this was something ridiculous. Every plant dropped leaves sometimes... except for fake magic plants made by a mystical house, apparently. She glanced up at one of the trees. It had regular looking wood... at a glance.

Indeed, the trunk had the same sort of bark you'd see on a regular pine tree... but then she realized this WASN'T a pine tree. Staring up at the branches, it looked much more like an oak. And yet, the bark was different. She took a quick glance around, conspiratorially as if someone was going to come up and yell at her for what she was about to do. But as soon as she was sure there were no witnesses (well, except for Serendipity, who was still completely engrossed in her slowly dissolving clump of earth and grass), she slipped her nails around the corner of one of the panels of bark and pried it off. A quiet cracking noise was the only indicator of what she was doing. The second it was off though, thick, sweet-smelling sap flowed from the resulting hole she had made in the tree's "skin".

She knew she shouldn't. She knew it was a REALLY bad idea. If she was anywhere else at any time of year, Fiera would definitely NOT stick her finger in tree-guts and take a taste of the sap. It wasn't even a maple tree, it wasn't any sort of specific tree, just the IDEA of what the mansion thought a child friendly tree should be. It's leaves weren't even the right color. This one's leaves were purple, but the one next to it had yellow leaves and another had pink. Only about one in every five trees actually had green leaves, and they were that sort of minty green you only saw in particularly nice looking clothing, not on real plants. So she shouldn't actually try EATING anything off of this, and yet... Fiera stuck her finger in the sap, and then quickly, before she could think about it any harder, stuck her finger in her mouth.

She was half expecting to regret it immediately- to gag, to spit it out. That was how most tree sap tasted, unless treated with copious amounts of sugar. But no, this sap tasted like it was practically MADE of sugar. It was delicious... which meant that Fiera probably shouldn't eat too much of it. Not because it would rot her teeth, but because she figured she shouldn't be eating magic tree goop, no matter how good it tasted. And yet... she looked down at the piece of bark she had just pried off. The side of it that had been touching the tree was also coated in the sweet sap. If this month was meant for children to be safe and play, then shouldn't the "food" it produced also be safe for any sort of children that were running about? In her opinion it was a fair assumption to make.

She looked up at Serendipity. The young reptile had finally torn apart her grass clump completely, and was now halfheartedly nipping at the remaining blades of grass that floated on the surface of the pond, the rest of it sunk or otherwise dispersed. Fiera couldn't even see the remainder of the dirt floating around in the water. It had completely cleared up, dispersing into the tiny waves brought about by Serendipity splashing. With her pet now growing bored again, she offered something new- the piece of tree bark that she had pulled off of the tree. "How about this, Serendipity?" She said. Even though Serendipity usually ate bugs or small pieces of meat, she figured that little bit of sap wouldn't be harmful to her, considering her reasoning earlier. She dipped the bark down toward the water, and the fossil creature immediately wiggled her way over to investigate the new thing.

She sniffed at it hesitantly for a moment- was this a toy, or food? Her eyes lit up after a mere moment however, and she gave it a tentative lick. Fiera saw her tail twitch as the reptile grew even more excited before quickly snatching it out of Fiera's hand. Thankfully her teeth weren't too sharp right now, remaining baby-like nubs in her gums, so Fiera didn't lose a finger as well as the bark. From there though she chomped down on it viciously, the action reminding Fiera of an alligator trying to snap and swallow bone... but on a creature so small and weak it was ineffectual to the point of amusement. She wasn't breaking the bark up, she was just sort of slobbering all over something too big to really fit in her mouth. She hauled the front half of her body up on shore, pressing flippers against the soft grass.

She did this presumably to get a better grasp, pressing the bark into the ground as she gnawed on it to try and get some more of the sap off. That was a good idea, in Fiera's opinion- if she dragged it into deeper water instead, the sap would dissolve right off. With her pet now occupied again however, Fiera could take another look around. Along with trees and grass, there were several bushes scattered around, but as with the other plants they had a very unnatural appearance to them. They were living as far as she could tell, but all of them were perfect, circular shapes, as if a rogue groundskeeper had come along and clipped all of them to form. They were bursting with blossoms, releasing an incredible floral scent in the air. It wasn't too strong though, to Fiera's relief- as much as she liked her perfume, having to sit around in it all day would have given her a headache.

Instead, the subtle smell put a calming mood in the air, adding to the aesthetic of the season. But it wasn't the bush itself she was interested in. Instead... she saw something different. Instead of the bright, eye searing colors of her surroundings, she saw a small dark shape under the bush. She crouched down to get a better look. When it became clear that it wasn't moving, she carefully stuck her hand under the bush. She wasn't expecting anything to leap out and bite her exactly, but the fact that that HAD happened to her before left her with a sense of caution that wasn't easily thrown to the wind. When she pulled out her hand however, she found... an egg. "Ah, well that's fitting." Fiera said, remembering that eggs were commonly associated with the season in these parts of the world. It wasn't a very festive color, however.

Just behind it however, another flash of color caught her eye. At first she thought it might be a flower, but all of the flowers on this bush were red, not purple. This one was a much brighter shade however, and sure enough the humanish pulled out yet another egg. She looked at them closely. They were bright and shiny, like those fake plastic eggs, and yet... they felt warm. Were there real creatures in these, still developing? Or were they just another trick of the mansion? Or were they of the mansion at all? After all, the darker one didn't seem very thematic with the general aesthetic of this month. Maybe something else left them here... though she can't imagine what mother would be so unreasonable that they'd leave their offspring in a place as chaotic as here. That level of ignorance implied either stupidity or complete apathy towards one's offspring.

She didn't realize the irony of this of course, as the splashing behind her had gone silent. She turned the eggs over in her hands- they were heavier than they look, but they were mansion loot like anything else, so she put them away in her bag... albeit in a softer, more plushly lined section of it, just in case. That way they would be safe from cracking even if she ran around for a bit. Then, she noticed the silence. "Oh, did you finish with your bark?" Fiera said, laughing and straightening herself up. "...Serendipity?" She queried, not hearing any splashes or squeaks in response. Finally she turned around, scanning the pond... but there wasn't a single ripple in it. A lump rising in her throat, she approached the shore and peered in. The pond was very shallow, perfect for baby creatures of course, which meant that she could see right down to the bottom.
