Morgan picked up the boxes and then looked at Matsuba, who was standing beside the door leaning on his cane-stick really quietly. "Well, boyo, real soon I'll s-start training you." Morgan said to him. He of course had not a single clue what the noises Morgan made even meant, but he did seem a lot more attentive now than he had been before, at the very least. Morgan was noting that at the very least, he wasn't running off and making Morgan chase after him through the copse of pine trees, so it was probably a good time to start working with him on his name, and to come when called, and of course to stay for berry picking. Tolerance might be good in the future, Morgan thought, but there was no need to get a whole list going all at once. That would be too much all at once for both of them.

Morgan made sure to shut the shed's door and lock it with their key before turning around to pick up the empty boxes. "Alright Matsuba." Morgan said. Matsuba wasn't paying a lot of attention, so Morgan repeated it. "Matsuba.... Matsuba!" Morgan said, waving their hand in front of him. Finally, Morgan sat the boxes back down, and pulled a treat out of their satchel again from where they had put it in there after luring Matsuba to the shed. "Alrighty boyo... Matsuba!" Morgan called out, breaking off a tiny piece and tossing it at him. He paid attention that time, snapping the treat up in the speediest motion that Morgan had even seen from him yet. Usually he was pretty slow so Morgan was pretty dang surprised at that speedy snapping motion. "Well, good boyo then." Morgan mumbled, glancing down at the boxes.

Matsuba was paying a little more attention than usual now, but wasn't really doing that as much as Morgan really wanted from a critter that needed to be learning his name and all of that nonsense. Morgan didn't always waste time on the 'name' training of every single creature, but since all of these creatures lived in the gardens, they needed to be taught this anyway. It didn't take long for Morgan to see Matsuba stop paying attention to them, and Morgan knew that it was time to continue the training. "Matsuba." Morgan said. Matsuba of course, wasn't paying attention. He was staring about at nothing like the sagely-looking creature that he was. Yuck. "Alright, Matsuba!" Morgan said, louder, waving the treat ball around again. Matsuba turned due to the movement, and paid a lot of attention then. Morgan quickly pulled a piece off, and then tossed it to him.

Well, as predicted, this was going to take some time. They'd already been looking at it quite definitively earlier, working with the creature about his name for a bit, but it as really going pretty slowly as of now. Morgan would call his name, and of course he mostly ignored it until a treat came into view. Morgan was beyond displeased at this for a bit, but was anything if not patient. Anything if not, for sure. Morgan made sure to continue calling his name repeatedly, and stopped giving up to show the treat. They called and called, until he finally looked at Morgan, as if contemplatively. Morgan then, and only then, broke off another piece of the treat and tossed it to him, while praising him. At the very least, this would be a good start. Morgan really had other things to do, and had been really hoping for a quick training session.

Ah well, most things did not happen the way that Morgan had hoped that they would. At the very least, the supplies were here now, Morgan had the king of evergreen in their sights and he wasn't trying to sneak off. Morgan had also managed to get the supplies that they needed to get into the shed, actually into the shed. Morgan just needed to train the king of evergreen his name, and then take the cardboard over to the compost machine. Morgan was not used to doing this sort of work, but it was pretty rewarding. Morgan knew that they would have fresh produce in no time, and it would be quite a bit worth it. "Matsuba!" Morgan called, and then of course the creature actually kinda glanced up, Morgan was pretty surprised that he did in fact. Morgan tore off a piece of the treat and tossed it to him, pleased.

This training continued on for some time, again and again repeating the name and then giving the beast a treat whenever he adequately paid attention. He seemed to be taken better and better to the training itself. That was good, Morgan couldn't help but thinking. They continued on and on for some time, until Morgan was feeling like they were wasting time. Morgan picked up the boxes and then called out to Matsuba- "Matsuba, come." Holding the treat ball in their hand. Matsuba looked up, paying more attention since his name was called and he knew his name now. "Good job Matsuba." Morgan said as they picked up the boxes in their off hand and then began moving towards the compost bin. The king of evergreen followed after them, if only for the treat ball right now. They'd been working on this before for some time, so Morgan was pleased.

He seemed to be taking to his name pretty well, Morgan was pleased about it, however they had a lot of things to do and very little time so they needed him to follow them to the composting bin so that they could throw these awful cardboard boxes in there. The compost bin was already doing incredibly well, Morgan had checked it a few days ago and it would be perfect for the creation of a new part of the garden, or perhaps an edible mushroom box for them. Morgan was pleased that they had something so far along that would work out well. "Come on, Matsuba." They repeated, waving the creature over again, holding out that piece of treat ball so that he would continue following. "Such a good, keep up.... Come on, Matsuba." Morgan said, yet again. Matsuba was following now, at a steady pace. That was quite good.

Hopefully this would begin to speed up the process a bit, now that Matsuba seemed to know his name decently enough. He was at the moment only responding to 'come' by following the treat, however. Morgan sped up a bit and got to the compost pile quickly, and then turned around. "Matsuba, come!" Of course, Matsuba was indeed already following for the treat, and he sped up to come to Morgan's position more quickly. "Good boyo." Morgan said, taking apart the treat and then tossing it to him immediately. Then Morgan took the boxes and threw them into the compost bin, making sure to get it working again to mix up all of the mulch together. Morgan knew that the cardboard would decompose quicker, that way. Now that it was done, Morgan was sure that they could continue the training of the command 'come' for the creature.

There was only so much that could be done all at once though, so Morgan continued about what they needed to do. They checked the machine to make sure that it was fine, and then got their bearings. Okay, so I've got the tools, got them into the shed, and then took the boxes to the composter.... Aha, yeah, I need to go back and start getting the tools together and stuff. Where is the crew I called to come in and apply the metal pieces? Morgan had wanted to make sure that the garden got fixed up before hand, but since the tools were so late, the crew should be getting here about now. Morgan looked over at Matsuba and then flashed him one of those stunning fake smiles. "Alright Matsuba, come on boyo." Morgan said, walking that direction and holding a treat along the way. Matsuba stood still until Morgan stopped, and then came to Morgan's position.

It was slow going, but Morgan would walk a few feet back, and then call for Matsuba to come. Then whenever Matsuba would come to Morgan's position, Morgan would give him a treat. This was slow going on purpose, since Morgan knew that the crew wasn't here yet, but also they wanted to get as much training in here as they possibly could. Morgan wanted to make sure that they would not have issues finding Matsuba in the future when it came time to get him worked with again and again each year. He would be infinitely helpful to Morgan, being able to get his berries often each year. They were incredibly useful, and Morgan knew that they were also valuable so it was important to make sure that none were lost if Morgan could help it of course. Morgan continued to call Matsuba to come to them and then giving him treats for quite a long while.

Finally, after quite a bit of work, the pair were standing in front of the gate again. Matsuba had pretty much gotten the 'come' command down pat, Morgan felt, and he seemed to know his name pretty well. Morgan wanted to work on one more thing that may help him continue to be useful in the future; the command 'stay'. Stay would be good for times when Morgan needed to do something around the garden, but he was laden with berries. Morgan didn't want him to stray too far when they were working with him, at the very least. "Alrighty boyo, stay." Morgan said, pointing to the ground. "Matsuba. Stay." They repeated, and then they walked a few feet away to the boxes to rummage around. It of course didn't take long for Matsuba to try to follow. Immediately, Morgan shook their head. "Matsuba. Stay." They repeated.

Matsuba seemed to be a little confused on this one, and Morgan understood why of course. They had just come up off of the heels of working on the 'come' command, and of course that was on the heels of learning his name. So it was going to be a bit rough going for a little bit. Still, Morgan was sure that Matsuba would get it eventually. Morgan turned around and began preparing things. When they came up to a box that held one of the metal pieces in it, they move it away form the other boxes. When they came up on one of the tools they were going to use today, Morgan moved over to the other side with them. That way they were all separated depending on who was actually going to be doing anything with them today. Matsuba stood still, lazily during this time period. Morgan was pretty okay with that, he was 'staying' even if by accident.

Morgan turned to him finally, and praised him. "Good boyo, Matsuba! Good Stay." At that, they tossed a piece of the treat at him. He snapped that up once again far more quickly than Morgan would have expected with how slowly he often moved. Morgan had no idea what to think about it, but they wanted to pay attention to this in the future perhaps a bit more. He wouldn't really be dangerous to the other garden beasties, right? Morgan waited until he was done with the piece of treat and then said; "Matsuba. Stay." Again. At that, they turned around and began working on the boxes again. There would be so much cardboard for the composter pretty soon, but Morgan didn't want to get rid of the boxes until the crew was here to use the ones that Morgan wasn't going to use today, just in case.

Matsuba was staying pretty decently, Morgan could tell. That was good, at the very least he'd be making more progress as they continued and Morgan was pleased with how quickly he was finally picking up how to do some of these things. Maybe it would be fun to train him a few other things in the future? Perhaps not, it really depending on how much time they needed to spend to pick up some more of these berries... Morgan wasn't sure how many they wanted, all things considered, but they needed to be able to pick up as many as possible, really. After Morgan was done sorting through the boxes, Morgan looked over at Matsuba and then grinned at him. "Good boyo, Matsuba. Good stay." Then they tossed him a piece of the treat again. That was good at the very least, Morgan thought. Training always went the same way, after all.
