That was Morgan's plan in the future, anyway. Of course, they still needed to wait a good long time to actually make a node, since that was apparently only doable once a year. Something about souls- Morgan didn't really believe in that crap but they weren't really in the mood for getting into a long argument with a ton of weirdos in religious uniform up on that zigguarat of a temple. For a city that was pretty ahead when it came to science, they sure did have a ton of weird temples in the Labs City. One for healing, one for apparently zombies? And one for sacrifical stunts. Morgan would never really understand how that was working. They shook their head, patted Matsuba on the arm, and then moved forward to go work on the garden itself again. Morgan was sure that Matsuba would drop his berries whenever he felt like it, and Morgan would be there to pick them up.

Morgan had some inkling that of course they'd manage to get enough berries to at least tide them a year. For one, they needed some for testing their properties of course (Morgan wanted to learn what their properties were and perhaps invent some kind of... healing pad for creatures, but that would be a long time going Morgan was sure), but also Morgan would only need to use one this year for the test on node creation. It was a possible lucrative deal, so if Morgan wanted to be able to use such a thing in the future, they would need to get as many berries out of this king of evergreen as possible. That being said, they didn't want to exhaust him either, so they weren't quite sure how many he would be able to physically produce this time of year regardless of what Morgan did or did not do to get him to produce them.

It was time to start working on the garden again. The king of evergreen would produce berries whenever he felt like it or whenever it happened, and Morgan really didn't have to stare at him and metaphorically watch paint dry to get him to produce them. Morgan had already put up the shears, so they figured it was time to continue getting the area prepped for planting. It was coming up on the winter season incredibly soon, and the ground needed to be planted. Morgan was hoping for a goodly amount of berries this season of all kinds! The winter season was excellent for berries and Morgan was STOKED about the thought of being able to get a few of them. The fall season was probably quite fruitful this year, judging by some of the things that they had noticed with the sales of fruits this year, so Morgan was hoping for a nice winter season.

Morgan had bought quite a few berry bushes with certain rotating berry productions (the Labs truly were a wonderful place sometimes) for each season. Morgan mostly wanted berries, so they were hoping that these would produce quite well. They loaded up the planter machine with the seeds and then set it up to drop a certain amount per square meter as they moved along with it. Then they turned it off and got it in position to be able to start easily. Morgan then told the king of evergreen to stay so that he wouldn't run off and lose those berries somewhere. "Good boyo." Morgan murmured at him, and then they moved over to start with the seeder machine. Morgan turned it on and began to push it with relative ease since it helped a bit out, and then began planting the ground with the berry seeds so that hopefully they'd have a crop to harvest at some point.

The work wasn't backbreaking but Morgan was not a strong person at all and that practically canceled out any ease that a regularly strong individual would have with a machine like this one. Still, Morgan pushed on through mostly will alone until the entire plot was planted in nice pretty rows. Morgan may not be the best at this specifically, but they were sure that it would work well. It was going to grow into a nicely manicured maze, complete with a nice metal bench towards the middle and an easier way in and out just in case. After Morgan was done, they were quite a bit tired and sore, but also thirsty. They grabbed a water bottle from their backpack and took a good drink. Time to have a quick sit, they thought. The garden wasn't anywhere near done but they were doing quite well Morgan thought. The king of evergreen had stayed like he was supposed to.

Morgan was absolutely baffled when a little flicker of color at the corner of their eyes allowed them to see exactly what Matsuba was staring at (as he was staring at something, but not really in a frightened way? More in a curious way, and habitual, as if he had seen someone he'd seen before). It was what had to be the tiniest, shiniest pachee Morgan had ever laid eyes on. Morgan didn't have any pachee, personally, so it wasn't one of theirs, but Morgan had been considering buying one or two. However, Morgan hadn't been expecting seeing one in the garden, let alone such a tiny and pretty one.
"W-well Matsuba, y-you went and found yourself a little friend, haven't you?" Morgan said, voice kept carefully flat. They didn't move too quickly, but had treats in their hands pretty quickly. They tore them into smaller pieces a bit, to have some on hand. They bent down really slow, and held one out to the creature. Matsuba stood nearby, leaning on his stick. "Well, d'ya wan' one?"

Ah - their company was closer now! That was finally reason to take notice of them. A small skitter and waving of his brilliant wings met the first movement, but this human didn't seem too aggressive. Those others who had shooed him away from their gardens, why wasn't he being chased away this time? Though the hand was inspected with quite an amount of trepidation, the food offered was so tempting. Being able to stash some of those treats away for the cold season would be valuable, especially if one miscalculated the winter's onset as grossly as this one had. The drive for food was enough to bribe him a little closer, he stopped short of taking them from that hand. Humans were... really big, and it still seemed to be taking a moment for him to decide if he was brave enough to bridge the gap between them. He was already braver than he should be, coming this close.

Morgan could get a better look at it now that it was getting closer, and goodness was it a clever little fellow, if not brave. A male, from the looks of it, and it made sense. Those were more common, far more common than females, but Morgan wasn't really picky about that. They didn't plan on collecting a ton, they really just wanted some lovely critters for their garden, Morgan wasn't much of a breeder. The bespectacled human watched the small male's movements with interest. Oh, he was like Morgan. Small in build, really tiny for a pachee. "Aren't you a p-p-pretty little one?" Morgan said, voice kept flat and calm. He came close, closer than Morgan would have even dared, and then stopped short. Ah, it made sense. Too nervous to take food out of their hand. Morgan tilted their hand slowly, enough to let a small treat piece fall out of their hand and onto the ground in front of them. Morgan understood that feeling. Thankfully, Matsuba was staying out of the way, his tail held just behind Morgan's back.

The moment the food hit the floor, the pachee pounced on it, choosing to 'devour' this morsel since it was so small. Those tiny root-like appendages sought the morsel, even if a wary eye was kept on the human as he ate, he didn't retreat either. Upon the first treat being consumed, a twitching nose was willing to come marginally closer to the offered hand - was there more? Bountiful nutriment was a sure-fire way to keep him interested in sticking around, especially during the winter when it would otherwise be so scarce. A little guy like him had to take advantage of his luck wherever he could!

Morgan hated thinking that they might be a little weak when it came to cute things, but at this point Morgan really couldn't argue that fact. Between Nico, Geist, and this guy, Morgan was just absolutely so far off of that ship that had already sailed that it was already practically half way around the world. Morgan watched as the creature just absolutely devoured that tiny bit of treat, and two emotions fought like wolves in Morgan's chest. One was how -cute- it was, wow it was so small and cute! But the other was a bit of pity, the poor thing looked so hungry, and the fall season had really just ended... It wasn't going to survive the winter by itself with just what it has. Morgan felt a little sad, even if they gave the creature all of the treats they had, it probably wouldn't have enough.
Morgan forced theirself not to say 'aww poor little guy' and just dropped another, bigger piece of the treat. Matsuba moved a tiny bit closer, perhaps noticing that the tiny creature had managed to get quite a few of his berries. Morgan was just now noticing that too. Morgan was patient, though, one would have to give them that if nothing else with the berries. They could be patient with the little pachee, too. "Aren't y-you a looker?" Morgan whispered, at the tiny antlered critter.

Grabbed up with much less hesitation, the second treat was devoured all the same as the first. Nose twitching in the air, he seemed to be searching for the smell of food, leaning a bit closer to the human. Were they holding out? There had to be more treats than what was just being given to him. It seemed more trusting of this human than a feral creature ought to be, probably from all the slinking around gardens he's been doing lately. A wide-eyes stare was still fixed on the human, startling a bit when they spoke just in case a sudden move would come along with it. Safe for now? The pachee approached closer than the last time, unabashed in his search for nutriment for the winter. This might not be a bad place to wait out the cold, if there was enough food...

Morgan had been holding out a bit, if only to see how close the little pachee would get to them before trying to make any kind of a movement that might frighten it. However, the little thing seemed very brave, much more brave than most creatures would be that didn't live in a home, but then again... It was getting pretty cold, Morgan had to admit it. The bespectacled human took a bit of a breath and then lowered their hand with the palm flat, very slowly, to see if the creature would try to eat any of them. Morgan did feel quite bad for the poor creature. Maybe if he stuck around, Morgan could find a way to get him some food more often.
There was a lot more where that came from, and it didn't take long for Morgan to remove a few more of the treats from their satchel, just in case they would need them. Matsuba had so many of them lately that he didn't seem interested in trying to steal any of the treats. Lucky for Morgan!

Oh, that was quite a lot of food! He knew that he could smell more. Shuffling closer, the pachee took no pause in snatching up more food, the roots of his paws grazing against their palm as more treats were greedily 'gobbled' up - just in that weird pachee way. This wouldn't be such a bad place to spend the winter, especially if this garden's owner wasn't going to shoo him away like the rest. The harvest pile behind him all but forgotten, those gleaming purple eyes met the human's face, overtaken by curiosity. Could he stay?
[ Congratulations, you've tamed the pachee! ]

Morgan was one of those individuals that easily was won over by shimmering eyes and begging. "Y-you are so cute... Geeze, I'm a sap." Morgan complained, but offered more of the food. "W-well, Matsuba, I reckon you've got a permanent new friend. E-even if we have to share some of the bounty with him." Despite Morgan's admission of being a bit of a 'sap', they had really easily forgotten that they were supposed to be stoic at all. Goodness, cute animals always did this to Morgan. Leave it to the dragon-caretaker to love soft little beasties too. Morgan gave it another treat, as they sat there. Training it to get it 'used' to Morgan was gonna be rough, but they were ready to deal with it. "Now what to name ya, little guy?" Morgan said. They'd have to come up with something... And build him a little hut... and Make sure that he had steady access to food...
Matsuba seemed pretty amused at it too, leaning over to look at the little thief more closely himself. Well, this month had went really well! Morgan spent the entire rest of the day getting the garden ready, and then began to figure out where they were going to keep the pachee... What an un-expectantly good day!
