Houluh Adoption Agency

Fanged had taken an interest in the Contest Hall, even though she had yet to enter any competitions. Her pets weren’t nearly ready for that and the thought of entering a contest was quite daunting. When she had heard about the Houluh Adoption Agency, she figured that a Houluh puppy would be the best pet to immerse her into the world of contests. It felt a bit strange to be traveling around without her own pets, but this was an experience that she would need to do alone. Rusty might get along well with other creatures, but he could be a bit overwhelming. A new puppy would need time to get used to him.

The Adoption Agency was not quite what she was expecting. It appeared more home than agency and Fanged felt her nerves settle as she entered inside the building. She greeted the individual in charge of the Houluh with enthusiasm and was quickly given a form to fill out.
She'd gotten her Houluh Kennel registered already, despite not owning any of the species yet. It was a requirement to be able to adopt a puppy.

“I would love to see the puppies! Thank you very much.”

Fanged felt a rush of excitement as she was led to where the puppies were kept. There were two pups kept here, Puppy A and Puppy B. Before Fanged could decide which puppy to visit first, her attention was captured by the sound of happy barking. The voice was high-pitched and playful, clearly interested by the presence of a new person.

“I guess I’ll start with you.”

She entered the space that Puppy B was contained in as quietly as she could manage, not wanting to spook the small creature. The puppy had a beautiful black coat with brown markings and light spots. The puppy’s left ear was adorned by a white marking that was shaped like a crescent moon.

“Why aren’t you a pretty fellow!” she exclaimed.

The puppy approached her on wobbly legs, its tail wagging excitedly as it approached her. Fanged crouched down and held out a hand for the puppy to sniff. To her surprise, her hand was met with a slobbery kiss. The puppy flopped over onto its back, immediately demanding belly rubs. She was quick to indulge, already feeling herself grow enamored with the adorable pup. She didn’t think this decision would take very long. She decided that it would be best not to visit the other pup. She had her mind made up and she wasn’t keen on getting attached to both puppies. After all, she could only adopt one of them. She approached Murr, temporarily leaving the puppy’s side in order to confirm her choice.

“I have decided to adopt Puppy B if you will allow it.” Fanged spoke with affection in her voice, already attached to the puppy that she had chosen.

Nadia's experience with houluh was limited. Though aware of the species and having come into contact with them briefly in the past, she had not been able to acquire one, and the notion of ownership had passed her by. However, with the resurgence of the contest hall had come a new interest - would it do her any harm to consider competing? It was a hobby. Didn't therapists recommend having an outlet to pour yourself into to avoid unfortunate relapses?

Well, no matter. She was already at the quaint building before she could begin to have second thoughts, and had even found the courage to enter, only blindsided by her nerves when she at last reached the help desk. It was time to speak to someone. Her attempt to crack a smile was a little on the hesitant side, but she meant well, and was quick to accept any documents that required her attention. 

"Excuse me, I... I am interested in adopting a puppy."

Nadia took a moment to realise what she was seeing. At first, Murr's size was a point of intimidation. Then, their companion, who seemed very doting. Finally, the houluh leading them toward the back room. A guide? The Uthax was blind? Her suspicion was confirmed when she observed them feeling over the signs above the cages.

How fantastic, that they were assisted in such a way by their companion. 

"Thank you, very much," She said, trying to express her gratitude more keenly in her tone with the knowledge that Murr could not see her smile.

It was no easy task, choosing between two puppies. Babies were undoubtedly her weak point, and she would have taken both of them home if it was possible; regulations stipulated otherwise, though, so she would have to content herself with one. The two of them were curled up in their respective spaces, napping, as she stood and deliberated on sight alone. 

Then, one of them awoke. An eye cracked open - a nose twitched. A tail began to wag, albeit cautiously, at the sight of a new person. Nadia beamed. When she made a soft clicking sound with her tongue, the puppy was all too happy to come closer to investigate, thrusting its muzzle towards her.

"Oh, I think this one," She found herself saying. Just because it woke first. "Pup A, please."

Even if she'd had it for some time, the satyr hadn't considered a name for her farm. The concept of naming the place implied ore permanency of residence than she was technically comfortable with, even as her facilities grew it remained nameless. That was, until she came to registering herself for a houluh kennel. Of all things, she would never have guessed that the labs' hounds coming to adulthood would be the thing that forced her to name her laughable estate something.

After quite a lot of fussing and deliberation, Lethalia found herself the owner of Foresty Flight Farms; because they were indeed a working farm, and not fancy or anything like that. It felt like it suited, with her remote location and the sarane and all. Too obvious, maybe? She had to notice they were the only farm listed in the directory, and she had to wonder if she might be looking in the wrong direction for working dogs. Surely they'd be clever enough to pick up on some dirtier work? Time would tell, and this would be an especially good chance to check out the disposition on some of the younglings!

"G'mornin'!" she chimed as she stepped up to the desk, "If I could, I'd love t' take a look at the pups!" Lethalia was more than willing to talk her way through whatever paper-pushing she had to get out of the way in order to see the puppies. At least the point of this trip was to come home with a puppy; she never would be able to just look. Knowing she'd given herself permission to acquire another young critter... the woman was all smiles and warmth from her excitement. Puppies! Another project that wasn't a large, cranky lizard!

Taking notice of the houluh helping her master out definitely helped ease Lethalia's decision to get into these hounds. Seeing an adult, well trained hound being able to carry out a job meant they were smart enough to pick up on the ranch and hunting work she was looking forward to with her pups.

It was a far cry from the lanky adolescent that she let wreak havoc on her farm and sleep at the foot of her bed at night; if he was to remain a puppy for life, he would never have much reason to be trained well. And so she had messed with him so little, the spotted houluh responded to few names but 'Boy.' That was fine. He was probably living the best life he could have up till this point, running amok on a farm.

And he was getting some companions, so her Boy was going to be pretty well off!

Resisting the urge to reach out and pet the working houluh, the satyr turned her pups they'd been led to instead - quite the interesting array of colors! Lingering over the blue roan for a moment, she thought towards the future best she could - what sort of thing would she be wanting to breed these hounds for, if at all? A dilute color could be nice since she liked the more washed out colors like that.. hm. Fluttering her fingers at the puppies was all it took to get all three of them crowding the corners of their individual kennels, tails wagging so much it wriggled the entirety of their little bodies.

Usually the white marked pups would command most of her attention, but for some reason the faded black one captured her, with it's handsome tan points and cute little white tipped tail. Murmuring to the houluh, Lethalia smirked as her fingers stuck between the bars were nipped and pawed at. It would be nice to know more about the ancestry, but a healthy brave pup was as good of a start as she could hope for!

"This'un would be great," she said, still scratching the pup's ear for a moment as if she was concerned to leave it's side lest someone else pick up the gorgeous dark one. "I, uh - I think that's an 'E', but I'm not sure, sorry!" the satyr caught herself and added onto her statement, realizing that saying 'this one' may be rather rude in this situation. She still wasn't great with letters though, hopefully that was the right one.
