Things were fairly boring and repetitive after that. Though Silver could never truly be bored with a cute puppy around. They just couldn't help the silly grin on their face when she flopped around with her too-big ears and waggly tail. They would let her wander away, then call her back after a bit. They said the word 'Phosphor' so many times that it was starting to lose meaning for them. The good news is that the less meaning it had to them, the more it had for her. She began to understand that the word meant she would get some positive attention, she quite liked that.
For the last test before they were ready to move on, Silver let Phosphor get a little further away than before. Then they called out into the cool, quiet night. "Phooooosphor!" She came happily hopping back and they beamed with excitement. "There's a good girl, who's my good girl, you got this don'tcha good girl," they rubbed her face and body all over as the excitement caused her to walk in happy circles.

"Well then, Phosphor, where do you think we should go next?" they asked. Looking around, there was a lot to see. Even the stars looked different under the magical cloak of Inkantana. They couldn't help but take a long, slow look over the mansion itself. The towering walls with their intricate architecture and stained glass windows made it seem strangely inviting. When they came here, they often spent a lot of time outside, but at that moment they really wanted to go in to see what it was like.
"Come, Phosphor," they said as they turned toward the door. Phosphor, as she had recently been taught, was happy to do so. She did have to demand the head pats, though, as Silver almost forgot in all of the excitement. She wasn't totally obedient yet. She would still need a lot of incentive to learn everything she needed to learn.

When Silver got to the huge doors that led into the mansion, the looked back to make sure that Phosphor was still there with them. She had wandered off again to sniff on some odd glowing thing poking out of the ground. "Ah, Phosphor, come here!" they said sternly. They were going to have to teach her to follow along without straying away, weren't they? They looked back at the door and frowned. It would probably be easier to teach her outside where they could see her more easily. They sighed and decided that they would stay in the garden just a bit longer.
"What do you got there?" Silver asked. Phosphor was sniffing something that looked like a crystal. It was glowing slightly and somehow felt... alive. This made Silver pretty uncomfortable, so they quickly pulled her away from it. "Look, let's not get tangled up with any strange magic, okay?" Their voice was filled with concern, ignoring the irony that they too were a 'strange magical thing' by most people's standards.

Silver wanted to start teaching Phosphor how to follow so that they could go inside together, but all they could think of was the intense magic of the glowing crystal. It felt unnaturally strong, and the humming in their ears was too distracting. They couldn't possibly do anything until they figured it out.
"Help me out," they said, though they doubted she actually would. Silver got down close to the base of the odd object, around where she was sniffing. What were the chances that she had been sniffing in just the right place? Could Houluh sense magic? Well, they could sometimes sense things like oncoming storms, or when a stranger was nervous. Maybe she did know more than she let on.
Phosphor was excited that Silver suddenly seemed interested in something. She yipped playfully and tried to grab their gloves, but they gently pushed her away. If there was danger here, they wanted to figure it out before she got too close to it.

Silver closed their eyes. Sometimes a reliance on sight was too strong, and it blinded them to what was actually there. After a moment they were able to pinpoint the feeling. The thrum of magic. They reached out their paw and grabbed into the spongy grass, pulling free a clear crystal. "Ah," they said, almost surprised by what they had found. "Do you see this, Phosphor? This is a crystal of remnant, a condensed form of magic."
Phosphor tried to lick the strange crystal, assuming it was a weird kind of food or something, but Silver yanked it away before she could touch it. They knew the crystals didn't hurt them, but they didn't want to risk her being hurt. They'd never be able to get over it if that happened. "No no," they said. "This is for me, but you can have a biscuit if you like, for helping me find it."

Silver slipped the crystal into their bag and pulled out a bag of dry treats in exchange. They tossed one to Phosphor which, just like last time, hit the ground softly. She pulled it out of the grass more gently this time, and managed to eat more biscuit than foliage. Silver grinned. She was very cute and now that the humming was contained, they could finally focus.
"Come this way, Phosphor," Silver said. She knew what some of those words meant, so she came waddling up to them. "Good girl," they said, rubbing her ears.
"Let's go, follow me Phosphor. Let's go!" They took a few steps away, and though Phosphor wanted to play with more weird glowing things, she also wanted more of those biscuits.
"That's right, you got it, let's go Phosphor," they walked backwards in slow, deliberate circles while holding a treat out at arm's length. It was a bit rude not to give it to her right away, but how else would she learn?

Phosphor was quickly bored of the game where she didn't actually get any biscuits, so she started to wander off again. That bush over there had a soft yellow light coming from it. Why was that? She wanted to go see, so she did. Silver sighed, not surprised but still minorly annoyed that she lost her focus so quickly.
There was a weird little blue creature in the bush! Phosphor barked as fiercely as she could, but it wasn't afraid. It swirled around to look at her and narrowed its gaze.
"Phosphor, let's go, c'mon girl," they said. She really didn't want to leave, though. She took one tentative step back toward Silver, but ultimately shook her head and continued pointing her nose at the little blue sparkly thing. She yipped again, trying to get their attention. They wanted Silver to see it, too! Maybe then they would realize why she didn't want to come over for a treat.

"Okay fine," they said. Silver wandered over to see what Phosphor was up to there in the glowing leaves. Why did everything around here glow? Wait, do not think about that. Silver constantly felt like they were trying to push worries away whenever they were here.
They squatted down next to Phosphor and pushed the bushes away to reveal a small glowing bear-like creature. "Oh, would you look at that," they said. They scooped it up into their paws gently, then settled it into a container they brought with them. They often rescued small creatures from here to take back home, so they were able to do so quickly from all the practice.
"Good catch, girl," they said. "Now, you need to focus! Or I need to focus... you know what, let's go. You got that? Let's go, Phosphor!" This time they dangled a treat down where she could see and smell it in order to lead her away from the glowing leaves.

Phosphor was happy to hop along now that there wasn't anything interesting in the leaves any more. This place had a lot of strange plants that were probably fascinating to a person, but given the low number of plants she'd seen in her life, she was equally interested in regular grass as she was the peculiar magical stuff.
After a little bit of wandering aimlessly around, Silver passed another treat to Phosphor for a job well done. "You're so good at this," they said. They stroked her head and allowed her to lick their face for a minute. They knew that a lot of people thought it was weird when animals licked their face, but they could not care less. It was cute and they weren't going to stop it.
"Are you ready for a test?" they asked. Phosphor didn't know the answer, but she flopped her tongue out the side of her mouth cutely. "I'll take that as a yes," they said.

Silver gave Phosphor a gentle push so that she was sitting awkwardly on the ground. That gave them a chance to get a head start. "Let's go," they said as they swiftly stood up and took a few quick paces toward the mansion. Phosphor had heard them say those words a bunch of times now, so they hopped up and followed after them as she did before. That always got her some treats and pets.
"Perfect!" Silver said. They pat her on the head and slipped her another biscuit.
"One more time, just to show me that you can, okay? Let's go Phosphor!" they headed straight for the looming doors of the mansion. Every now and then they turned back to make sure that she was still following. They wanted to make sure that she would be right there with them the whole time. Every time she looked like she might turn away, they clicked their tongue to get her attention and make her focus back on the task at hand. They did this all the way back to the front porch of the ominous building.

Sitting on the porch was something they hadn't noticed before. Was that there when they were here last time, or did it just appear? They couldn't be sure. Why did things seem to appear out of nowhere around this place? Well, they couldn't complain. Most of the items were worthwhile to pick up, either because they offered something interesting to study or made for good bartering.
The item appeared to be cloth of some kind. As they reached down to pick it up, it moved, making them jump back and hold their hand out as if they were protecting Phosphor from some unseen demon. Then out popped a little creature, not unlike the one they saw before. "Ah!" they said in surprise. "Oh you look like a friend of mine," they said with a laugh at their own jumpiness. They scooped this creature up into a container as well and hung it from their bag. It would be safe there until they went home and made a proper place for it.

The cloth on the ground was a hat, and it contained other treasures as well. A small blue sphere and a twinkling gem-like star. Silver smiled and slipped the items into their bag for safe keeping. "Look it's just your style," Silver said with a laugh. They held it up to Phosphor's fur to compare the colors. They tried to then put it on her head, but it was way too big for her. It flopped down over her eyes and she barked with surprise.
"Alright, I guess I'll wear it," they said. They pulled back their cloak and stuffed the wooly hat onto their head. "There. Tada! Aren't I fabulous?" They swirled around in place, causing some sparkles to fall to the ground around them. Phosphor thought it was fun so she ran around them and grabbed their cloak in her mouth. They played a brief game of tug of war before Phosphor gave up and chased some sparkles that were flying around.

"Okay, no more stalling," they said. They had been putting off going inside even though a few minutes ago they really felt like they were ready to. What were they afraid of, anyway? They couldn't remember the last time they were seriously hurt from going inside. Not that a lack of memory really meant anything to them. They didn't remember a lot of important stuff.
"Phosphor," Silver said in a more serious tone than they had before. "Let's go."
They pushed open the doors and listened to them groan under their own weight. How excessive, they thought. They tentatively stepped into the foyer and took a deep breath. Nothing horrible happened so far, so they felt safe to continue and let Phosphor follow them inside. A mysterious wind pushed the doors closed behind them. Was that a sign? They hoped they were making the right choice. If nothing else, it could be cool to look around, right?

The room immediately inside the door was small, but there were three other doors, one in front of them, one to the left, and one to the right. Silver already felt a little overwhelmed by the possibilities. If they chose wrong, would something bad happen? Maybe they weren't as ready to go inside as they had thought.
Phosphor hated to stay still, so she immediately started to sniff around. Silver noticed that she was wandering around a bit, so they let her lead the way. Maybe she would come across something interesting. Sometimes creatures had a great way of knowing what to do, even if they didn't know why.
Eventually, Phosphor pressed her nose against one of the doors. "This one, eh?" Silver asked. She made the choice for them, apparently. They were fine with that. If they couldn't trust her, what could they trust? They gently pushed the door open, afraid that if they pushed too hard they might make the building mad at them.
