Fanged kept a secure grip on the squirming baby pet. She might want her independence, but without experience she wouldn’t properly know how to handle it. It didn’t take too long to reach her garden plot. Fanged had memorized the path to take to get there now. Despite its large size, she could find the entrance quite easily.
“Alright. Here we are. It might look like a regular garden, but it isn’t. Though I don’t know if you’re even familiar with what a regular garden is. All you need to know is that it is more dangerous than you may think. So I need you to be alert of danger at all times.”
Gideon remained silent. Not that the Felusine was normally one to be talkative. They hadn’t known each other very long. They didn’t quite know what to think of each other yet, but Fanged was optimistic in their future bond.

Fanged swiftly entered her garden, her body tense as she observed her surroundings to see if there was anything out of the ordinary. When everything appeared normal, she allowed herself to relax. Another squirming episode from Gideon reminded her to place the baby Felusine on the ground. Suddenly, Gideon didn’t quite know how to react. She blinked up into the morning sun, confused that her request had actually been granted. She glanced at Fanged, trying to gauge the woman’s reaction to the entire situation. When she didn’t react, Gideon decided that it would be fine to explore the vicinity for herself.
“Just make sure that I can follow you if you stray too far,” Fanged warned her.
Their relationship was still new, and Fanged felt that a responsible pet owner should be firm in establishing boundaries. Gideon seemed aware of the potential dangers and decided to stick fairly close to Fanged.

It was smart after all to keep a meat shield around. The area near the entrance of Fanged’s garden was the area that was the most tamed. A series of orchard trees were meticulously aligned in a pattern that was meant to provide them with ideal growing conditions. Of course, it was late in the season and with bare leaves, they wouldn’t be producing fruit anytime soon.
“There’s always work to be done here, so don’t judge it too harshly. After all, gardening isn’t really what I’m passionate about,” she remarked.
Gideon didn’t seem to mind the state of her garden. The wilderness was heaps more exciting than anything that had been carefully crafted. Now that she had a feel for things, she wanted to get out there and explore! With that in mind, she glanced back at Fanged, ensuring that the woman was watching her as she picked a direction to head in.

For once, it was nice to be out of the darkness. Heading back to the gardens in the early morning had been a good change of pace. She had grown too used to the creepy noises and the dark shadows. For now, she could comfortably rely on her senses to display the world around her truthfully. Of course, that was barring any outside interference. When one was under magical control, it was certainly possible to hear or see things that weren’t actually there. Fanged didn’t think the gardens particularly had a malevolent source of magic to it. She hadn’t found any crystals here so she wasn’t even sure if it had magic at all. The sky remained cold even as the sun crept higher in the sky. Gideon finally settled on a direction to head in. Fanged followed her closely, not wanting to let the baby pet wander too far off on her own.

The sun reflected across the frost-tipped grass, colouring each blade with a hint of glowing orange. Fanged appreciated the sunlight even if its warmth had been drastically reduced. Even though the sun was just rising, the morning was already well on its way. In the winter months, the sun rose much later than she was used to. As much as she liked sleeping in, the rest of the world always marched forwards and lately her mind had been too preoccupied to do much sleeping anyway. Gideon led her over towards a thick row of brambles. Fanged was surprised to see them still present even as they approached winter. They certainly didn’t look as healthy as they would be during the summer. Their coils were shriveled and brittle. If Fanged prodded at them, they broke off immediately. She didn’t mind much. Brambles could be cumbersome, even if they did produce berries.

Someone else had a fine luck when it came to berries & gathering them up in beaky mouthfuls; the Gallor snapped up impressive amounts, finding all the good, round berries tucked under leaves, between nooks and under crannies- if there was such thing as luck, surely this beast would have it! Giving a wide breadth to anyone else causing a ruckus in nearby vegetation, the Gallor kept quick and light on its feet, leaving a trail of berries as it skipped along..

When the foxlike Gallor revealed itself, Gideon watched it with a patient curiosity. Fanged didn’t have much experience with Gallor, but she didn’t think this one appeared hostile. It appeared a strange mix of mammalian and avian which provoked a strong sense of intrigue in the woman. She took a step forward, as though propelled forward by a supernatural magnetism. As though a switch had been flipped, suddenly a row of invisible birds surrounding them blinked into existence. She flinched as a bird flew straight at them. Like the Gallor, it remained quite calm. Instead of bothering them, it landed on the ground in front, chirping cheerfully as it hopped across the sheet of dead leaves that covered the earth.
“Well, aren’t you a strange fellow,” Fanged remarked aloud.
The Gallor tilted its head and stared into her very soul. It took a confident step forward, its chest puffed out as it regarded her with intrigue.

Gideon didn’t appreciate the body posture of the Gallor. She took a step in front of Fanged, her teeth silently bared and her tail flicking with energy. She wasn’t pleased with its boldness. The Gallor didn’t see Gideon as a threat. In fact, it decided it wasn’t going to pay any attention to her at all. Gideon didn’t appreciate that, but there was little she could do except try and protect her owner.
“It’s okay girl, I don’t think this creature is hostile. Look it’s got its collection of berries already and its almost finished eating them so it doesn’t need to defend its stash,” she remarked.
Gideon relaxed slightly, no longer in a position to attack even if her body was still poised in preparation if it came down to it. The Gallor continued to ignore her, not threatened in the slightest by a baby pet. Instead it drew closer to Fanged.

The woman flinched for a moment as the Gallor thrust its head forward and sniffed at her hand. Fanged quickly raised it to meet the creature at a more comfortable distance. The Gallor seemed excited by her offering and quickly pressed his beak against her hand as he demanded pets. Only when Fanged returned them did Gideon finally relax fully. It appeared that they had made a new friend with minimal effort on both of their parts. With that settled, Fanged found herself drawn to the assortment of birds that had suddenly appeared around them. Where had they come from? Had they simply been hidden away in the foliage or had they appeared through some sort of magical means. Either was certainly a possibility. One of them landed close to Gideon who swatted at it. If she had possessed claws, the blow would have been more threatening than it turned out to be.

Fanged decided that since she had seemingly tamed the Gallor and that they were so close to the entrance of her garden, they would take a quick detour to escort it back to the kennels. She didn’t want to keep it around her while they explored considering it didn’t fully trust her yet. She didn’t know if it would run away the first chance it got and she rather wanted to keep it around.
“Alright buddy, what do you say. Do you want to stick around with us some more?” she asked the Gallor.
When the Gallor appeared to agree, Fanged began to lead the group back to the entrance. Gideon was a bit more difficult to convince to follow, but eventually she wandered back over as well. She then escorted the Gallor back to her kennels where it could get settled in and used to the idea of being a pet.

The detour ultimately didn’t take that long in the grand scheme of things. Gideon happily followed her as they returned to the garden. This time, Fanged wasn’t so insistent on carrying her and instead allowed the baby pet to trot alongside her as they walked down the path that led them back. When they reached the gardens again, Fanged wondered if she could spend her time tracking down some more wild creatures. There had certainly been a lot of them about this season!
“How about I teach you a thing or two about tracking, does that sound good?” she asked the Felusine.
The Felusine remained quiet for a moment in contemplation though it didn’t take her long to reach a conclusion. Tracking down creatures sounded like a lot of fun! And maybe this time Gideon would actually be allowed to attack them. In silent agreement, she decided to focus on her surroundings.

Gideon might not know much about tracking, but there was certainly a component to it that was instinctual to any carnivorous creature. Fanged had picked up on the skill over her many trips to the various areas around the labs. She might not be one for hunting, but she had definitely tracked down at least a few creatures by now.
“Alright Gideon. Let’s start by looking for some tracks.”
Tracks were one of the most reliable methods to finding creatures. Fresh imprints in the ground usually indicated that a creature was very close by. In the grand scheme of things, tracks didn’t last very long so they tended to be fairly reliable. It certainly had its benefits, though it could take quite a long time to find a pair of them. Gideon glanced around with a sharp focus in her gaze. She took to hard work rather quickly, as if she knew nothing else.

The Felusine was a quick study. Though even with this innate sense of tracking, it wasn’t enough for them to find any tracks that were of use to them. All they could find were the stick like scratches in the dirt that indicated the presence of mundane birds and Fanged wasn’t particularly interested in those.
“So this area is a bust. But that doesn’t mean the others will be as well,” she told Gideon.
Gideon seemed momentarily disheartened, but she brightened up at the idea that they would be heading off to explore another area. There were a few options to choose from, but heading west felt the most promising. The path that they approached was wide and appeared to be used often by wild critters since it was well-worn. Fanged assumed that creatures had used it considering there weren’t any people who were around her plot of land out here.

Sometimes a lot could be gained by heading down the most travelled path. If there were a lot of creatures about, there would be even more creatures trying to hunt those ones down. And right now, she and Gideon were the hunters. If they could find even a single creature through the meticulous methods of tracking, Fanged would consider that to be a success. She had a strange sensation of ambition towards their task at hand. Fanged could be competitive when she wanted to and for some strange reason, she felt as though she had a deadline to meet. She wracked her brain as she tried to think of what was nagging at her, lurking deep beneath the surface of her skin in attempt to remind her not to forget something important. Whatever it was, she wasn’t about to figure out what it was on her own. Gideon glanced at her curiously.

Fanged shook her head, trying to empty her mind in an attempt to practice some semblance of mindfulness.
“Well, I guess we might as well explore some,” she remarked to Gideon.
The Felusine took that as a que to boldly race off down the path. Fanged didn’t mind too much as long as she could still see the baby in her line of sight. Fanged allowed the sunlight to guide them as it rose through the trees. It wasn’t quite high enough in the sky to provide warmth, but its light perfectly illuminated the path in front of her as though it were a guiding light. When she caught up to Gideon, the Felusine slowed down to trot comfortably at her side. The brush around them grew surprisingly thick. Branches curled over onto the path, providing an almost claustrophobic feeling for Fanged as they walked through the overgrown patch of path.
