Fishing was easy enough to do for now, and she wondered about bringing Luna with her sometime to see if the matron of her main Houluh line would be good at fishing, but she wasn’t going to do that until she had no puppies to take care of, and honestly, when was that going to happen? A chuckle escaped her throat and she hoped that things would work out for the better at the moment, and she shook her head a bit, wondering what to do with things right now. She reached down and scratched Chunk behind the ears, making him jump a little. He wasn’t used to too much affection, Murr played with them, of course, but he had always known he didn’t belong there with her forever. Jack sighed a little, wishing there was something she could have done other than this, but that was the hard part, she figured.

He would warm up to her, she was sure of it, and she hoped that this was just a stepping stone toward a great relationship. All of her Houluh loved her, she thought at least, or at least the grown ones did at this point. The pups were just happy to be pups right now, and she was sure that things would go well no matter what. Shaking her head a little, she continued down to the river with Chunk at her side, he would be Natural’s Chocolate Cream Pie, as long as she got his training submitted on time, which she was certainly planning on doing no matter what. Honestly she was panicking, she knew that things could fall through and she might miss the deadline, which is why she was doing this so early to when she had adopted him. Of course she wished she could have started that night, but… things happen.

It was the dry season when it came to the river, and she smiled a little when they came up to it. It was pretty low at this point, sadly, but she knew there were still plenty of things to find when it came to shells and the like. Honestly there were still a few fish that hung around, and she nodded a little when it came down to things for the moment. As long as Chunk stayed with her, then everything would be fine she figured with a slight smile on her face. He was a pretty cute pup, even though he looked pretty much the same as his father, which wasn’t a bad thing. Cocoa was a pretty regal looking Houluh when he wanted to be, so she wasn’t too upset about the thought of getting everything done with Chunk. She was just happy he perked up a little when he saw the water, which she wondered if he would be a good water Houluh at this point?

If he liked water, since he had perked up quite a bit when he saw it, she wondered if she should rethink his training, but decided against it for now. It was alright, things would go well she knew with a small chuckle. At least she had something to do with everything for him, and she patted the little puppy on the head as he trotted alongside her, wondering where they were going now that he was interested. At least she had, hopefully, figured out what excited him, and pretty early on too. He walked forward and sniffed at the water a little before he pawed at it, yelping and falling backwards whenever he realized the water was, indeed, wet. Jack chuckled a little and helped him to dry off his paw, she didn’t want him to get sick or anything on his first outing. That was about her luck though, she knew that much.

There was something to be said for excitement, she figured with a little smile as she watched Chunk run down the length of the river for a little ways. He didn’t go too far before he plopped down, already tired and rolled over to show his belly to the sun to warm up a little bit. There was definitely a nip in the air, but there was never a bad time to go fishing, even when the river was iced over you could cut through the ice and fish through it. Jack smiled a little and rubbed Chunk’s floppy ears for a bit before walking on, whistling at him to follow her, though he didn’t know what that meant yet. He would learn soon enough, she knew with a chuckle, and she wondered what was going to happen for now. Hopefully they would get close, though it was hard to predict, but she was fairly close with her Houluh as they grew, she just needed to make sure Chunk did the same thing.

It was hard for her to get an idea for him other than to sense danger. What else could she train him to get the three things he needed to show off in his show? She wondered as well if he would become a Matronne when the goddess chose, now there was an idea. Tilting her head at him, she smiled a little and shook her head, no, he would probably Patronne, just be a little more lithe than most at this point, which was fine. Jack wasn’t sure what to do for him, but she scooped him up as she moved toward where her favorite spot was to fish. Things would go well, she knew with a little smile on her face, and the woman stretched out her shoulders as she walked with the tired puppy in her arms. Her pole was over her shoulder and all of her tackle was in it’s own box, with the pail she would fill with water looped over her arm.

What was she going to do for him, she just didn’t know, and that bothered her a little bit. Jack settled everything down on the ground next to the big boulder she usually fished by and smiled a little as she thought about everything. Well then, she figured, she would figure out what to train him soon enough, and that was fine for the moment. She didn’t need to know what to train him for awhile other than how to sense danger, just in case she wanted to adopt another puppy from the HAA. There was one there at least who had stood out to her, and she probably would have adopted it if it hadn’t been for Chunk being there for many, many months at this point. Patting the little one on the head, she smiled, things were going to be fine she knew. All she could do was hope that the training would stick when that happened.

Everything would be fine, they would figure out what he would need to be trained soon enough and then she would start working with Buzz next. Maybe she would grow Chunk next though, she didn’t really know. That would require a bit more training and she wasn’t sure she was up to it just yet. Of course she wasn’t really up to training Chunk either, but that was beside the point. Jack pushed her hair back and set up her fishing rod and lures before they splashed into the water. A smile grew on her face after a moment or two and then she looked over at the sleepy little puppy. He had done well until now, but for now she knew it was going to be tough to bond with him when he was asleep, but just her presence there usually did the trick she thought. Whatever happened, she was excited to see what he was going to look like, and if his fur would have a different tint to it than his father’s.

Already he looked a little different from Cocoa, and that was great as far as she was concerned. They were just a little unremarkable, all things considered, which was sad and probably why Chunk had been in the HAA for so long. It was strange for a puppy to be there long enough for the breeder to adopt it, but there she was, adopting Chunk and trying to get him trained up enough to get things finished. Jack pushed a hand through her hair and leaned back against the boulder as Chunk laid down next to her, head on his front paws. She knew that Murr didn’t abuse the puppies in any way, shape, or form, but that didn’t mean he hadn’t been sad, watching all the other puppies get adopted over the months while he stayed there. It was one of the reasons she had gone ahead and adopted him, she just didn’t know what to do with him.

There wasn’t much to do except watch the bobber on the surface of the water. She was sure that things would work out in the long run, but she wanted to do something with Chunk now instead of later. That was the issue, she didn’t know what else to train him right now, and she frowned a little. She could teach him how to not be scared of an intimidating foe, but he would still need one more thing before they were finished, and it wasn’t like she wanted to bring Kro to the river or anything, he usually slid down the bank a little bit. Jack chewed her lip a little and shook her head, she wasn’t sure what to do with things right now, but she knew she could at least teach him his name or something, maybe that would make the time go by a little faster. If not, that was alright, but what would she teach him?

Maybe something defensive, she thought as she looked at him laying there, but that didn’t make much sense either. Jack frowned a little, she didn’t know what to do for things right now. She would look over a list she had in her pocket a little while later, for now, fish. Well, that and paying attention to her newest little pup, even though he was already a little older than the newest ones. He was seven months old, and some of the ones born after him were already adults. That was the weird thing about Houluh, they could just be born and already get the training for their shows in order to grow the next day. She wasn’t one to think too much on it though, and that was alright, she figured with a little smile on her face as she stroked Chunk’s fur on his back. Everything would work out, she just needed to find something else to train him.

His name, how to be hardy in the face of intimidating animals, and sensing danger. That seemed like a good idea, but at the same time, kind of boring. She knew that Houluh couldn’t really intimidate very well, which was fine by her, and she rubbed his back a little as he slept while she thought about what to do for him. It wasn’t like there wasn’t anything she could think of, it was just difficult at this point, she knew with a grimace. Well, she was going to have to think of something as she fished, but right now she was just letting him gain some experience out in the world, even though he was asleep next to her, which was, honestly, a good sign. Sleeping around her meant, at least to her, that they were comfortable with her and didn’t see any danger happening around her. It was the truth, she wouldn’t let anything happen to them while they were in her care, unless, of course, they were in the Pit. Then it was inevitable.

Chunk’s back paw kicked for a moment and she chuckled as she watched him dream. It was interesting seeing animals sleep, and she wondered if anyone else thought that same thing. She eyed her fishing rod and shrugged, no bites yet, and nothing had washed up on shore just yet, but that was fine at the same time. Honestly she really needed to figure out what to do with Chunk, and she thought about getting his show out of the way before his sister’s and a few older pups just for the hell of it, but thought that might be a little odd at this point. Frowning, she wished she had the answer, but she just didn’t at this point, which again was fine, but didn’t know what to do for him. Two of her Matronnes had retired, she only had what, two left who could breed? Genie and Ladybird? Sighing, she rubbed Chunk’s back some more.

She had a bit of time before training him how to sense danger at least, though she now had an idea. What if she taught him a few attacks to go with it? Biting, clawing, and jumping on an opponent might all come in handy at some point, she really didn’t know though. Tilting her head, she looked down at him and then smiled a little, she might as well do it, she didn’t know what else to do after all. The woman stretched out a little and yawned, she was actually fairly tired, she hadn’t slept well the night before, and that was fine, but she needed to focus on Chunk and fishing, and what she could do well for both of them at this point. Chewing a little on her lip, she hoped that everything was going to be alright in the end of it all, but she didn’t know what else she could really do to prepare for things at the moment. Jack sighed a bit, it was going to be awhile before she could calm down.
