It still tried to jump out and would have whined if it had the ability, but for now it resolved to flop about in the net, hoping it would disturb the woman enough to where she would let it go. Ink trailed out of it for a moment and it aimed the ink at the woman, hoping that would help.

Fiera was used to creatures trying to get goop on her by this point- especially when she was out fishing. It was just about the only thing that fish could do when they were already caught. Thankfully, Fiera had no intention of eating this fish. It was far too interesting both in ability and appearance. Instead, she would much prefer to take it home with her. Perhaps she could calm it down a bit? Fiera reached into a pouch on her hip and pulled out a bit of fishing chum- some indescribable chunk of meat. Without further ado, she dropped into the net in an attempt to get the squirty thing to calmm down long enough for her to transport it to the travel bucket. The sooner that would happen the better though as she realized that Algol was slowly starting to pay attention to her after she stopped following him.

Jumping for a few more moments, it saw the Sarane down the way and froze, cowering in the bottom of the net for a bit. It didn't know what to do about it at the moment, but there wasn't anything it could do about it. Shivering, it stared at the woman and stopped jumping, wondering what was going to happen...
[Congratulations, you've captured the Squirt!]

Fiera brought the squirt home after that and came back with Algol, starting off where they left off. She was sure that she could get a great price for it later, though she'd have to do some searching for a buyer. It was cute enough, that was for sure, and she would be happy to keep it for herself... but the more shrewd side of her knew that not many people had pets from the river yet due to its recent opening, and so she was likely to get a great price for it if she really tried. After all, it had such beautiful colors. It had taken some doing to keep Algol from bothering it too much though- the sarane terrified the poor creature, which he seemed to get a sense of satisfaction from. Fiera could only roll her eyes at her pet's playful growls as they made their way home.

Now that they were back however, Fiera could start up right where they left off. They hadn't wasted much time, truth be told. Dropping the squirt off was just a stepping stone in their little trip today. The sun was still high in the sky and the water was still cool. In fact, Algol had taken to walking in the water alongside Fiera instead of on shore now. Fiera found that ultimately beneficial though, as she was able to quickly dive her net in after the fish that Algol's movements stirred up. Normally they were just as lazy as the rest of the river with not much to do, but there wasn't many creatures out there that WOULDN'T get out of the way of a fully grown tier three sarane, no matter how good a mood he was in right now. As a result, Fiera got quite a few new additions to her travel bucket.

The fish that she caught were quite similar Fiera realized as they finally calmed down. It was hard to get a good look at them when they were flailing wildly in her net, but now that they were in the travel bucket and the water had cleared some, the similarities were quite apparent. They both had sleek, tapered bodies, perfect for cutting through the waves. They also both had bright green fins, a beautiful color that Fiera was sure she could find a buyer for. Then they both had pectoral fins that were huge and flashy, like fans next to their faces. That being said however, even Fiera could tell that these fish were not the same species. Was there just some sort of feature about this part of the river that made fish like this flourish? Something about green fans that made them more likely to survive? She couldn't imagine.

A few more strikes at the water, and Fiera had a few more catches as well. It looked like this was a pretty productive spot. The river bended a bit outward here, forcing some of the water into a shallower area. Fiera supposed that meant that it was easier for the net to swipe through here, and stuff from the faster (or... marginally less sluggish) part of the river washed up here with ease. Granted, her first swipe brought up nothing but seaweed. It was a rich brown color, with small little... pustules of some sort of buoyant fluid that made it bob in the water. That was why Fiera swiped at it to start with, if she was being honest. She saw a flash of brighter color and swirling water that made her think it was something alive, and when she lashed out to grab it, it turned out to be a weed.

Not that seaweed wasn't alive per se- plants were definitely living creatures- but it definitely wasn't what Fiera was looking for on this trip. It wasn't cute and wriggly, and it wasn't shiny and could be turned into some sort of cute accessory. Still, as far as she knew some people liked this, so she would keep it with her other finds. Maybe she could sell it to some botanist. After that, the humanish spotted a moving black flash in the water, and her feline graces allowed her to swipe her net at it again. This time, to her delight, she felt some resistance as she tried to drag whatever it was toward her. Either she had managed to catch a tree root that had grown up through the water (which wouldn't be her first time doing that, admittedly), or she finally had a living thing caught in her net.

As she pulled it closer and closer however, it became clear that yes, this was definitely a fish. It was an interesting one to boot as well. She managed to drag it in in one final sweep, and lifted it above the water. It flopped pathetically in her net, clearly furious at having been caught. Well, it wasn't getting away any time soon. She dumped it in the bucket and was careful to shove Algol's head away before the sarane could steal it. They weren't necessarily fish eaters, but Fiera didn't know a single sarane that would turn down a pescatarian treat. Still, these ones weren't for him. He had his own treats, and was just being nosy. He huffed when she wouldn't let him have it though, and walked away. Fiera just rolled her eyes. He was always a complete grumpy gus. All she had to do was wait a few minutes and he'd get over it.

Now that her brown sarane had walked away however, Fiera could finally get a good look at the fish she had just caught. Just as she expected, it was one of those deep water fish that you usually only saw in the depths of the lake or around the canyon. It had a deep black body and milky, nearly blinded eyes. Little blue lights were illuminated along its side, though Fiera could barely see their glow in the noontime sunlight. The fish swam around in the catch bucket with a distracted, confused demeanor, as if it didn't know what it was doing here. Fiera couldn't blame it. These sorts of creatures almost never showed up in areas like this. It must have been washed down here in a storm or by a particularly strong current, and it wasn't strong enough to return to the areas that it normally lived in.

These deep water fish were usually weak swimmers anyway, all things considered. Deep areas usually didn't have much in the way of currents so they didn't really need strong swimming muscles, and the low amounts of food in those dark areas usually meant that they spent most of their time hanging weightlessly to conserve energy anyway. So Fiera decided that it was probably a good thing that the fish was now sitting on the bottom of the bucket motionlessly, just breathing and staring at her angrily. She put the lid back on the top of the bucket and clamped it down, deciding that her work here was done for now. She made sure that the lid was on tight however, in case Algol tried to get back in there when she wasn't looking. She wouldn't put it past him, but hopefully the bucket was too weighed down for him to push over.

From there, Fiera returned to the river bank. Algol thankfully seemed to have forgotten all about the fish now that he was trying to catch his own. He didn't seem to be having much success with it though, and would frequently come up empty jawed. Fiera snorted. She could probably help him with that later on, but it would take time to teach. She didn't really have that much time either- the sarane fighting tournament was coming up, and she needed to focus on getting Algol to brush up on his fighting skills. He didn't know any elemental moves right now despite getting his injection, and his resistance to a lot of attacks was lacking as well. He would have a tough time getting through the tournament if Fiera didn't up her game. She frowned as she tapped at the water absent-mindedly. Hopefully she wasn't just wasting time here at the river.

Fiera found her mind getting taken off of that topic though as she spotted something glimmering in the mud at her feet. She prodded at it with her net for a few seconds, and was finally able to drag it up out of the water. Fiera took the object out of her net and swished it around in the water for a few seconds to get the clods of mud off of it. When she held it up, she realized what it really was- a shell! It was dark grey and lumpy with bands of growth along the edges. The interior of it was empty- this thing, whatever it was originally, was long dead. Still, Fiera knew that she could find some sort of buyer for it, especially with that beautiful mother of pearl pattern cast onto the interior of it. People always went nuts for that beautiful iridescence, Fiera included.
