That... was monstrous.
The first time that Sevyrn pulled up that creepy, sharp-toothed fish, she just wanted to throw it back in the water. Maybe... it could go in the pond? Just to make people wonder what in the world it was? Then in a twisted turn of luck a few casts later, she managed to pull up a second one. The woman shuddered. There must be a school swimming by. Maybe someone else would be interested in it so she could put it in to a sales tank, but Sevyrn really didn't want to catch another of those things. Maybe it would be a good time to take a break - Squirt seemed to be interested in what was going on anyways. Had she ever laid her eyes on anything like that? Sevyrn imagined that most fish were familiar to her, given that she had come from these very waters.

What to try next? It seemed that those funky monstrosities that the river called fish really liked those pink lures given that she'd pulled up two in a row before losing one, so Sevyrn wanted to differ this time around. Maybe one of those fuzzy lures? Or maybe she should just try with one of the hooks... she did actually have some more worms, and fish too.
Sevyrn was right back where she began before she'd caught those things - confused and rather hopeless, having no clue what in the world to use next. For a moment she picked through her tackle boz and then settled on three choices: a single hook, a double hook or one of those fuzzy lures. Carefully she picked them all out of the box and crouched down at the shore line. "Hey Squirt - what do you think? Which one of these should I try this time?"

The sea pony tilted her head, unsure what was going on - what did the girl want? Did she want to play? Oh - did she have food!? Squirt squealed and got as close as she could, craning her neck up towards her friend, so Sevyrn lowered her hand carefully to let Squirt see what she was holding on to. The last thing that she needed was to drop one of the hooks and have it catch on the sea pony, so she kept a tight hold on the upper parts.
Squirt... still did not seem to understand - but she was curious. Sevyrn decided to hold each one out to her one by one... maybe something would be a little more interesting to her than the others? She moved the single hook in to the other hand and Squirt just cocked her head, and stayed that way when Sevyrn held out the double hook.

Squirt squealed and giggled as soon as Sevyrn pulled out the fuzzy lure - Sevyrn assumed because it looked more interesting and the fuzz seemed fun! She seemed to want it for herself but that was definitely not going to be happening. "No, you're not getting the lure," Sevyrn said, and disappointed the sea pony as she got up and walked away. Squirt was rather disgruntled by that and Sevyrn was only part way back to the tackle box when a sharp wave of cold water hit her back - it was that damn little sea pony. She gasped and her hands clenched shut.
As one of the hooks dug in to her palm, Sevyrn audibly whimpered. That... was not good. As soon as she was able to right herself she opened her hand back up and took a careful look at her palm - okay, it was shallow. Taking it out wasn't going to be pleasant, though.

At least she had a first aid kit... Sevyrn dropped the other hooks back in to her tackle box and started sifting through her backpack to find the kit and once it was out she put it on the ground and flipped it open. She was going to have to be careful as she pulled it out, and unfortunately it didn't want to budge... crap. Just get it over with, she told herself. It was shallow, it would just be a small cut... or more like tear... in her palm. The woman had to psych herself up for it first, but eventually pulled - and gasped even louder as the hook escaped her skin. A little bit of pressure and a bandaid would be enough for it, though. Once she'd finished with her minor first aid, she figured she may as well get back to what she was doing. After loading the chosen lure on to her line, she cast away.

What.. was that? The thing that Sevyrn fished up this time around wasn't quite as strange as the creepy looking things from last time, but it still was rather odd. Its mouth seemed to be turned in to a perpetual frown, big eyes welled up. It seemed to be wondering what in the world had just happened to it. Poor thing - Sevyrn quickly worked to remove it from the hook attached to the lure. As much as she hated handling the fish once they were out of the water, they were rather slimy and all, she carefully cradled it in her hands while it flopped out, trying to get it over to the tank in her cart before it manage to free itself from her grasp. It hit the water with a loud plop and started to swim around with the two strange fish that Sevyrn had found earlier on.

Sevyrn already knew that she was just going to go with some plain hooks this time - those were what she had loaded up on after all, given that they were cheaper and easier to stock up on. Because of that she didn't bother with trying to sort through her tackle box and especially did not give Squirt the rights to choose what she used next. She had already seen just how terrible that would go... Squirt wasn't going to get another opportunity to do that to her, as funny as she seemed to think she was. The sea pony hadn't realized that Sev would end up hurt, it wasn't like she had been behaving maliciously, but just... no.
Sevyrn sat back down on the rock, taking a moment's break before she tied a new hook to her line and got back at it. "You having fun over there?" The river was likely much more fun to be in than the pond. Bigger, at least.

Squirt didn't mind the pond - she liked that she got to see Sevyrn every day when she came out back to tend to the garden and feed all the creatures. She liked being able to bob around with the seryn, who made good play mates - the younger one was really fun! There were even a few little fishies swimming about in the plants, the ones that Sevyrn had found before today. It was much better than being in the kennel, where she would have become the sole resident of the aquarium, which had been empty since Skye had been moved in to the pond. Twould be a lonely life for a sea pony, and Squirt just wanted all of the friends - look at how easily she had come to want to be Sev's friend. There was no way in the world that Sevyrn could have thrown her by her lonesome self in to the kennel.

She was going to need to upgrade her pond now, though - the one that she had built didn't have space for any more creatures, and Sevyrn had been planning on putting another seryn in there. She'd been waiting for a custom from one of the flea shops for a little while now - when it came to creatures she had the patience to handle a bit of a wait, though she was getting antsy - and... now it had nowhere to live because Sevyrn hadn't expected to randomly come across a sea pony while minding her own business at the river with Bez. Luckily she still had time - and she had the credits to afford the upgrade for her permit, so she would just need to stop down there and then put the hard work in to expanding the little pond. It would probably be nicer that way, too - more space for creatures and plants.

Alright... she had spent some time hanging out with Squirt, and now it was time to get back to business. Maybe in a little while Sevyrn would work on teaching her how to fish - as an aquatic creature, especially a wild-born one, it would likely be a relatively easy task. The hardest part would be getting her to do it on command... and she would probably only be able to catch little tiny fish and that small mouth of hers. That was okay, it would just be nice to have a trained buddy to bring along with her. Besides, not everything that went in to the pond needed to be huge. Sevyrn gave the pony a little pat on the top of her head and then walked back to her tackle box, picking out a double-sided hook from the book. Once it was securely attached she wandered back to the river side, and away she went. 75 Squirt - 4

Learning : Swim, Fishing Sevyrn had never brought a houlou pup down to the riverside before, but it seemed that there was a first for everything. She'd had Spot's training planned out ahead of time, wanting to do something more interesting with him than she had with his sister. What kind of things could make a houlou pup stand out? Watching them jump in to the water, swim adeptly, and return with a fish. She had needed to finish up his basic training first, but it wasn't long before the day came that Sevyrn was finally able to get Spot ready to go check out the new area. She loaded up with treats and snacks for herself as well, and once the pup was on his leash it was time to head out. As soon as they were out her front door, Spot was excited. Were they going back to the park? He hoped so! 76

Spot had no idea what was happening when they split off away from the path to the park - where were they going today, and why? There were so many questions in his little puppy head, and so much excitement about the novel stimulation of this brand new place he had ever seen before. They walked right through town! There had been so many people and so many creatures and so many shiny things to distract him from his walk! Spot had loved it, and to Sev's surprise he had been pretty well behaved the whole time. What a good little pup.
It was at the boundary of the town that Sevyrn was able to cross over a rickety wooden bridge, at which point she took an immediate right turn. Her secluded little spot on the river was just a few minutes away, hopefully Spot was ready to get his fur wet.
