It was showtime! Ashe had cast a temporary spell on himself an Inyala, allowing her to scurry off and do as she liked without having to constantly be with him. As much as he would have liked her presence, he also wanted to focus on Maverick and put on a good show for everyone. He spent the time since the sign up, and the opening, gathering the things he'd need and dressing up Maverick. He had brought with him a large (read: huge) white sheet. He had cut a hole for the horn and the eyes, then threw it over Mav. The stallion, with his charm and collar always on, stood patiently, knowing this was for the contest. He also knew enough to not let his flames catch the cloth on fire. His wings were tied with a thin cloth, helping Mav keep them furled at his side. It was tight enough to provide support, but light enough that he could snap it if he wanted his wings to be used.

Ashe had briefed the stallion on the plan, the show he had concocted and wanted Mav to put on. Ashe had his own parts to play, but the tainted stallion was the star and should be the focus. With him completely covered, straight down to the floor (but not dragging, that took away from the 'floating ghost' aesthetic) except for the horn and his glowing green eyes, already eerie on its own, Maverick stood at the entrance. He was still obscured from most, if not all, of the guests' view. He took advantage of the position and did as Ashe asked. The lights dimmed as per Ashe's request, and Maverick summoned up a mist to shroud him. When he was completely obscured, he started forward, pushing the mist out in front of him. Tendrils of the fog snaked around, filling the arena, blocking the view of the guests in the stands. Maverick walked with purpose, allowing his footsteps to be heard. And no one could see him!

Maverick, hidden within the mist, picked up his pace to a trot. Then a canter. The beating of his hooves growing louder... then more distant, softer... Then coming back. The effect with the mist would leave the guests disoriented, not sure if he was coming or going, and from which direction. The confusion was a key part to this performance, and while Ashe watched from behind the scenes, he thought the equillion was doing a great job. Periodically, his green eyes would glint, appearing through the dense fog, then flash out of existence again. As if on que, perhaps something Ashe said through their shared Ribbon of Telepathy, Maverick let the fog dissipate just enough that his shape could be seen. The fog kept his feet hidden even when he ran, which gave him an ethereal floating appearance as he glided around the arena, in and out of fog banks...
And he came to stand facing the stands, a little closer to the guests than the center of the arena.

Right in front of their very eyes stood the dark equillion, bone horn jutting free, green eyes glowing in the mist, his ghostly body a wavering outline.
And then he exploded.
With a shrill whinny, like a banshee scream, Maverick burst into flames from head to toe, the explosion sending flames everywhere. The flames few toward the audience, sparking a fear, but never burned anyone. They either fell short, or fizzled out before landing, but the image of an Equillion engulfed in flames, burning like a witch at the stake... And then it was gone. The flames, the eyes, the ghostly body. The fog rolled in again, swirling. The hoofbeats started up, a phantom running around, coming for you...
Earlier, Ashe had assembled platforms, and he'd scooted them out while the fog hid him. Between Ashe's linked sense with the stallion, and his natural ability to sense where things are (since he was born blind, and had years of experience), Maverick was able to navigate perfectly despite the changes.

Maverick stepped up onto one of the platforms, raised enough to appear higher than the ground. There, he revealed himself again, rearing, letting out a piercing scream of a whinny again. He spun, swirling the mist around him, then he froze in a rear as, once again, flames consumed him. With an explosion of fire, he seemed to wink out of existence again. When he revealed himself again, he was on a higher platform and this time, he stood firm in front of the spectators, eyes glowing fiercely. Starting from his feet and moving its way up, the sheet caught flame and burned into nothingness, revealing the skeletal Equillion beneath it. The flames ruined the tether of his wings and they snapped open, curving forward like huge hands. The last of the cloth burned away and Maverick reared. When he came down, he lowered himself a little more than usual. Hard to see, but Ashe had climbed on his back, dressed in black to better hide himself.

Maverick used his own senses to find the edge of the platform and he stood there, braced. It was absolutely terrifying, their next act: but he trusted Ashe completely. The ground wasn't too far down, since he hadn't climbed too high, and he had his wings, even if he had never properly flown with them. It would slow the impact no problem. He rocked back onto his haunches and jumped at Ashe's signal. In midair, a lot of things happened. First, Maverick gave the illusion that they were both on fire, the flames licking away at their skin, leaving black bones in the shape of Equillion and rider. Anywhere skin had been, flames were now. But the bones didn't disintigrate like they would normally; the pair stayed ablaze as Mav's fire wings cupped the air and together they glided down to the ground. Wings held open in the same position even after landing, with fog gathered around his legs, it appeared that Mav was still flying, just low to the ground.

They sped around the arena, Mav's wings held open, flaming skeletons still in place. As he passed, he let out some fumes. Not gas like a fart, but more... toxic. Just a little bit, so he didn't knock anyone out or cause respiratory issues. Just enough to make it seem like the bodies were burning, like death. Add a little bit of pzazz to it. He swooped by the spectators again, giving off a little bit of stink as he passed. He changed direction, picked up speed, then he started slowing down, allowing the illusion to appear like the bones were breaking apart, finally. He pretended to stumble once, twice... Then the flames went out, the fog swirled around, and man and beast were gone.
Five minutes later, the lights brightened, the fog dissipated, and in the center of the arena stood Maverick, with Ashe on his back, completely whole and in their glory. Black flames rippled along the stallion, eyes glinting. Ashe bowed from astride his mount, and Maverick took a knee, as if imitating his master.
[Mav uses Emit Fumes, Go, Stop, Turn right/left, faster/slow down]

Having two pets in a contest was always a better idea than it was something to put to practice. Kadin made his way to the contest hall for the Vai Min Mur contest with Tarken by his side, knowing that he'd have to do the same with another pet soon enough. But that was alright, he'd literally signed up for this, in a way. While preparing for the contested, first Kadin figured it'd be a good idea to get Tarken in consume. He wrapped a scarf around the vulticus' neck, hiding much of his scarring, and slipped some fake paws on his hind legs. The vulticus walked funny with them on, but he didn't chew them off, so Kadin counted that one as a win. He attached a mask to the top of the vulticus' head, leaving it out of his eyes so that he'd still be able to see and wouldn't shake it off too quickly.

Some fake wings attached easily to his back and Kadin slipped a bracelet over what was left of his tail. Whenever he moved or wagged his tail, the bracelet would clack against his bones. It didn't seem to bother the vulticus at all, but Kadin couldn't help but wonder if it was all uncomfortable. Still, they didn't plan on being out here for long, so as long as Tarken could bear with it for a bit, it should all be fine. Kadin took the vulticus out into the arena, looking over at the crowds and judges. He didn't have much of anything special planned beyond the outfit, to be honest. Just this.
"Tarken, shift." Kadin ordered. The vulticus snorted and then... changed. His bones snapped and rearraigned themselves back in place, his entire body shifting as, one by one, each piece of his costume fell to the ground, revealing just the undead vulticus underneath. Kadin offered a small smile, "This year, it's a trick."

Fiera stepped out into the spotlight of the contest hall, letting it follow her around. The rest of the hall still had some lights, but the intensity of the one shining on her made it look so much darker in comparison. There had been some other very good entries so far, but she was not one to be outdone. "Ladies and gentlemen! This is the time of year when shadows get so much longer, and things go bump in the night. I wish I could assuage your fears, but alas! I am simply here to confirm them. Introducing shadow made flesh... the being that is pure Misery!" She said, gesturing above the stage. "Glide!" She called out and drifting down from the ceiling came her pet, sliding through the air with undulating motions, the light glinting off of the golden bangle around his neck to make it easier for the audience to trace him. "Behold how the darkness does not bother him at all, how he moves through it as if he belongs- because indeed he does." When he landed, she tossed him a piece of meat for his trouble. "Behold! How even the shadows themselves devour flesh, this time of year." She said, letting the audience cringe as he swallowed the chunk whole. As they murmured amongst themselves, she quirked a finger at him. "Follow me, Misery." She said, ensuring that he followed her to their next checkpoint. (Misery uses Glide, Follow, displays his Shadow Immunity. Items used: Bangle, meat.)

The salaves followed her to the jumping poles, eyeing the audience with an unblinking amethyst eye. "You might believe your walls to be safety enough from the shadows. After all, if he is made of bone and gristle like the rest of us, then a physical barrier should work, correct?" She said, gesturing widely to the jumping poles- her metaphorical "wall". "You would, unfortunately, be wrong. Misery, phase!" She said, commanding her salaves and throwing another chunk of meat through the bars to direct him. He slithered after it, rearing up... and appearing to melt into shadow, reappearing on the other side as his body solidified once more. Fiera addressed the crowd again as he ate.
"Even one's own home is not safe, as you can see! But what, praytell, would happen once he finds you? Well..." She held up a bone to the audience, holding it up against her own forearm for a morbid point of comparison. Then, she walked in front of Misery and held it out before her. "Misery- shadow bite!" She commanded. The void salaves wasted no time, lashing out wildly and gripping onto the bone, hissing as he crunched down. A horrifying cracking noise echoed through the hall as a blackening discoloration spread across the bone. When he finally pulled away, his mystical shadows had eaten away a chunk of the bone, and a large crack had been put in it by the sheer force of the strike. "Indeed, I would hate to see this happen to you. A warning then, ladies and gentlemen. Be careful walking home tonight... as you never know what the shadows may hold."
(Misery uses Intangible Body, Shadow Bite. Items used: Jumping Poles, bone.) (Done!)

Nyx, Offspring Equillion Level: 14 | Loyalty 16 Stamina: 8 Strength: 8 Resistance: 4 Dexterity: 3 Mentality: 2 Special Abilities: Blind, Shadow Immunity, Acid Resistance, Intimidation, Fly Moves: Buck, Breathe Fire, Emit Fumes, Plague, Darkness, Shadow Meld Trained: Carry Rider (2), Go (1), Stop (1), Fly (3), Darkness (6) Vai Min Mur was a holiday that Silver had some trouble understanding. People seemed to like it, though, and they figured it couldn't hurt to participate. What other time of the year could they walk into the contest hall with a creature like Nyx and not be totally out of place? Nyx did not really like being around so many other weird smells, but she did like all of the attention Silver was giving her, so she decided that she was fine with it. Silver gave her many comforting strokes and pats as they dressed her up for the contest. Apparently, you were supposed to dress up for Vai Min Mur, though they thought she was plenty beautiful just as she was. Nyx ended up wearing a black choker as an anklet, a large floppy hat on her head just behind her horn, and a mask tied to her shoulder. Silver thought it would look spooky for her to have a random face on her shoulder, and as they looked her over, they concluded that they were right. "It's our turn, pretty girl," Silver said. They pressed their forehead against her side one last time before leading her out into the show ring. She seemed calm enough, but they didn't want to overwhelm her.
"Hello everyone!" Silver said. They had gotten much better about addressing the audience since they had so much practice. It took a lot out of them, though. "This is my Equillion, Nyx!"
Silver gave a dramatic hand wave and gave everyone a few moments to look over the unusual Equillion. Even without her costume, she was intimidating and often caused people to become unnerved. Silver tapped Nyx just under her wing with their elbow, the signal for her to take a step back and unfurl her wings. She flapped her bony wings a few times, causing her shadowy mane to swirl in the artificial breeze. She snorted loudly, venting unholy fumes from her nostrils. Her empty eye sockets scanned the crowd as she turned her head and brandished her wickedly long bony horn.

"Alright pretty girl," Silver whispered to her. The comfort of them being near caused her to adjust her wings, no longer flaring them out to look as large and intimidating as possible. They stroked her neck and swiftly, in one smooth motion, hopped up onto her back. She knew to expect it, of course, so she didn't immediately rear up and try to throw them off like she used to.
"Good, good girl," Silver said, hopefully quietly enough that only she could hear them. They leaned forward, urging her to start moving. She didn't feel safe enough to run here, but that was fine. At least she was moving. Silver carefully walked around the stage so that everyone could see her and her new costume.
Eventually, they made their way to the middle of the show ring, and Silver leaned to ask Nyx to stop. She stopped walking and snorted again, venting more dark fumes into the air.
