Renathan saw it, and his pink eyes widened. He enjoyed this so much, these mansion visits, when they went well! The mansion was already showering him with pretty gifts, starting with these fireflies he though, and he was so glad that nothing bad had happened quite yet. He had a few bad memories of going through the mansion last year with Shy Guy, he had some kind of a weird episode through it and didn't remember any of it. He felt like he got clippets, every once in a while, but nothing really concrete. Like a bad dream. However, today it was much better! Perhaps it was because he had brought Auburn, and she had showed respect? He was not really sure how the mansion worked, but he'd been studying about how houses were built to try and understand it a bit more. Renathan chuckled, and took off after the green firefly with the jar, Auburn clinging to his shoulder.

Renathan turned around and around, nearly wrapping himself up in his tails as he tried to go after the fast flying green streak of light. He was really wanting to find as many of these as he could this month; this was his favorite month last year; he was sure he'd find even more things this month. He was wondering if that new trader's place in town would ever take mansion items for something nice; as of right now, no one really bought them and it was more trouble to deal with keeping them than it was worth unless he wanted to use the individual ones. Maybe the piko-pets would take the pocketpets that sometimes were found here? Renathan finally captured the last green firefly, and Auburn seemed super happy about that. She was puffed up, and looking at him with a false aggravated expression. Renathan chuckled, and closed up the jar now that he had all three.

Renathan wondered if there were any more things nearby. He was always happy to collect things, even if there wasn't a whole lot to do with them right now. He was sure that there was someone out there that would take at least some of the things, right? Renathan was sure of that. He should probably have been going mining; that was better for him in the long run any way that it was stacked since he got a new job, but Auburn really needed to have a calm day with him, after all. Renathan knew that fireworks would start up later; and he was excited about that! He sure did love this month in the mansion. Renathan's gaze fell upon a strange pinwheel, just sitting there as if it was just for him! He hoped that it would be, as he walked over and picked it up, showing it to Auburn. There was a pink butterfly near it, too!

Renathan scuttled over to the pink butterfly carefully, and captured it as well in the jar. Perhaps he should have brought a bigger jar? The jar was one of those really huge ones; it would have been full of pickles had he not thoroughly cleaned it to keep the fumes from hurting the things he planned to capture in it. Recently, everything had been going so well with his life, he was so glad that things were getting better! He wanted to continue doing well and being generally happy. Perhaps it was that date with Jack that was making him feel so much better? She was his best friend in the labs, and... And maybe something more? He was not sure. The Pethian people did things differently than he did. Renathan stopped and stared at the butterfly for a little while as he thought, Auburn staring into the jar too. He was absentminded; while she was entranced with it.

The truth was that Renathan didn't really know... How. How to bring it up to Jack? He was so bad about overthinking things already, but this was a complicated situation. He could be wrong; she could 'love him' as a friend. That was a thing that Pethians said, right? She didn't specify, but it was possible that he had not heard it right, or that it would be seen as creepy if he brought it up and was wrong. However, if he was right, and she did like him like that; then it was still a complex issue. He wasn't attached to his own people's customs when it came to such things, unlike the other customs. He knew that there was no way anyone in Pethia would live like they did, he knew that before he came here. Renathan continued to think as he stared into the jar of glowing lights and the butterfly. His izer snuggled into his neck.

Renathan was not sure precisely what he should do about the entire situation. Tell her, or not? She didn't seem to remember it, which made sense, she was sleeping, right? Maybe it was a slip of the tongue, due to the sleepiness? He wasn't sure about it. He thought about the complex situation more. What did Pethians do in relationships? He knew that dates were a thing, and well, he had seen plenty of young ones about here and there. That certainly meant that families were being made, right? He had heard about a ceremony of some kind 'marriage' but people were a bit weird about that ceremony. It was no done immediately, it was done after sometimes a very long time of knowing the person. He wasn't sure what the protocol of that was, and he certainly thought it was too early to talk about that! Renathan forced himself to continue on, looking for trinkets with Auburn cuddling into his neck.

Renathan was so engrossed in his thoughts that he nearly tripped over something, almost spilling Auburn off onto the ground, save for her clinging to his shoulder like mad. It kind of hurt, her claws dipping down into his fur and into his arm. "Ouch!" Renathan called out, and Auburn took flight from his arm, landing on the ground nearby. Renathan looked down, and found that something or another was buried in the ground here. He was curious about what it was, and grabbed it, pulling it from the soft earth. It was like it had been put here very recently, or perhaps it grew from the ground? Renathan glanced over it... It was some kind of butterfly thing. He'd seen these before at the mansion, this time of year, and decided to keep it. A gift from the land! Auburn sidles up next to his leg and rubs her body on it, weaving.

Renathan was glad that he had Auburn, she was really a sweetie. He knew for a while that the creature was really a big help to him, and he hoped that they would continue to be able to have this relationship for a long time. She was sweet; and in his homeland, they had creatures that were used for therapy. He thought of Auburn like that, she was really distracting to him whenever he began thinking too much, and it helped a lot. Renathan bent down and petted the izer for a bit, scratching between her wings and on her head gently. They had been through so much together! He was thankful for her friendship. Renathan thought for a moment, and then picked her up and let her climb back up on his shoulder. "Alrighty Auburn, lets go find more loot, right?" That was the idea, anyway. He wanted to find as much stuff as possible this month!

Renathan was perhaps used to seeing all kinds of crazy stuff in the mansion, on the grounds. However, he was not used to seeing things on fire. Renathan panicked, instinctively, and rushed over to see what was going on, prepared to do something in order to smother it. Perhaps get Auburn to do something or another, or maybe his magic might help? He was a fire elemental himself, so it would be almost impossible for him to really do something about a different fire, right? However, once he got close, he just realized that it was a bunch of mansion stuff... On fire? He walked even closer, tilting his head and feeling awkward about it. They were on fire... But not burning huh? That was pretty awkward. He had never seen anything like it at all! He stepped up to it, and realized that it was not all what it appeared to be.

Renathan really wanted to see what was going on here, and finally he realized that it was not on fire; the objects (a violin and some other stuff for some reason?) were simply serving as a seat for some kind of... Tiny fire entity thing. Yeah, that was odd! Renathan had never seen anything like it, and stepped forward, tilting his head again. He bent down, trying to touch it. Auburn was having -none- of that. She was a creature of ice and mind, and NOT a creature of fire, after all! Auburn hopped off of Renathan's shoulder yet again, and landed a few ground away. Renathan was quiet for a while, and finally attempted to touch it. Yes, it wasn't burning, not really. It just looked like a fire, it wasn't REALLY a fire. Auburn watched from far away, with bright, shimmery silver eyes. Renathan glanced up at her, pointing at the fire.

Renathan was really hoping to find some more fireflies today; he needed just two more, he figured, and then he was going to give them away. That was the idea; anyway! He really wanted Auburn to get close to him, and how was she supposed to get closer to him all the way over there? Perhaps this was not the best place to get her all ready to do another training session, anyway. However, he wasn't sure what to do with the entire place. He wanted to find as many things as possible, since some shops allowed for trading of items, and trading of these little... Pocket-y thingies. Renathan liked some of them, and kept some of them, but a lot of them just kind of... Were fed and left alone. However, Renathan also didn't want to continue being in the mansion grounds for long enough to overstay his welcome! Auburn seemed quite scared of the fire.

Renathan had been working super hard to train Shy Guy before, but he had always been a little softer when it came to Auburn. She learned more tricks and less attacks, which was the general idea; she was not really meant to battle originally. However, he promised a friend she would go into a petite battle, in order to get enough contestants. So train her he must! She was nearly ready, anyway! He was ready to see her do well, but he also didn't really want to do battles anymore. It was a bit of a struggle, they just weren't as important to him anymore. He wasn't sure exactly when that had happened, but it had all the same. He felt bad that Shy Guy was still in this, but he didn't want to short change his opponents either. It was a real dilemma, and he wasn't sure what to do other than keep trucking on.

It was perhaps more of a moral dilemma on Renathan's part than he would like to admit. However, he really needed to focus on Auburn and the mansion right now. Still, he felt like talking to the mansion about it, in a way. Sometimes, if a spirit of the land heard you thinking about something, it would help. That's what his people believed. So it was important for him to sort of get his thoughts out here, where there was so obviously a spirit of the land stationed. Renathan gathers the items, now unafraid of the fire, and places them in his backpack, along with the butterfly thing. Then, he turns around, and goes to collect his izer again. He petted the creature on her fluffy neck, and gently picked her up, putting her back on his shoulder. Yes, Renathan would continue to look around as they bonded. That was his plan!
