Renathan was proud of him slowly working out his issues. He knew that he needed to work harder in the future; however, today he was doing quite okay. He was here with Auburn, and she always made him feel a lot better. He continued to pet her, gently scritching between her little pale ears, and then petted the soft and white fluffy ruff around her neck. "Auburn, you don't have to be so jumpy today, y'know?" He said, quietly. Of course, she generally seemed to have better instincts than he did, and she was never worried, so perhaps he should be a little more worried? Renathan didn't bother with it right now, he did care a lot about Auburn and wanted to calm her down. He opens up a bottle of nuts and hands her a shelled nut for her trouble. She enjoyed them a lot; and she carefully began eating it.

The creature seemed to get much more happy after receiving her treat, so Renathan pulled another smaller seed from the container, and gave it to her. He hoped that she was quite happy now; the mansion seemed to be being quite nice to them, after all. He hoped that she would chill out now; because he didn't want to insult the spirit of the land that lived here. Renathan wasn't sure how long they would be there, but who knew exactly how long the mansion would continue being kind to them? Renathan was not exactly the most mentally resilient individual, and had been messed with pretty easily in the past by the mansion's strange magic that he was not completely sure how to keep that from happening or else wise. After a while, Auburn finished her treats, and Renathan picked her up gently, petting her to continue to calm her down much better.

Renathan was happy today, and was planning on doing a bit more exploring today. They really needed to get moving, so he hoped Auburn was ready to keep going! Renathan put the cute little russet colored izer onto his shoulder and patted her one last time. "We have to do more exploring, Auburn." He said, gently. Auburn nosed his opposite hand, which still had the bottle of small shelled nuts in it. "Oh, you want one of these, huh?" He said, softly. He emptied one out into his hand, and gave it to the izer. She chewed it, swallowing it happily. She trilled, and nearly bounced on his shoulder. "Alright, alright, time to go exploring." He said, quietly, his ears flicking. He felt like he could hear something; but it sounded a bit away? Renathan turned around, and saw the beautiful fireworks field from last year already beginning the lightshow this year!

Renathan's bright pink eyes opened up wide as they reflected the beautiful bright lights that were showering out across the field. The bright red ruby field rolled under the gentle ministrations of the breeze that was going out across the field. However, as the ruby red field dipped below, sparks flew up like roman candles or sparklers flying up high into the sky, in blues, reds, greens, pinks, and golds. Then, suddenly, it erupted into multiple rainbow-y colors as well! Auburn was also excited, watching the pretty and distracting lights and nearly leaping off of Renathan's shoulder to chase them. Instead, he pet her to calm her down, but still kept his goofy smile beneath his mask. This was a really gorgeous display! He was very sure that the fireworks display from the mansion was just for them, it was a really nice display. He was not entirely sure why the mansion was being nice, this time, but he was enjoying it while it lasted.

Renathan was beginning to worry about exactly when the 'kindness' of the mansion's spirit of the land would run out, but he wasn't sure if he would insult it more by running out while it was still going good, or by overstaying his welcome. The spirits of the land in Pethia were typically much more harsh than the ones in Renathan's homeland, but was sure that it was normal. Pethia was a strange land with strange people in it; people with totally different societies and ideas about things. Renathan had been having a lot of fun figuring this out! The mansion had been the hardest part of his journey though, it was so different and odd, and he had no idea what to think about it. Auburn, on the other hand, was mostly just reacting to Renathan's strange moods, and was trying to deal with him quite a bit while also protecting him.

Renathan had been about ready to go, but realized that he probably needed to stay just a little bit longer. Auburn could use a little more exercise, he figured, what could it hurt? Renathan tried not to overthink it too much. He tended to do that relatively commonly, and it caused more issues than it was worth. However, Renathan couldn't always keep the overthinking from occurring, especially when he was by himself. Technically, he was by himself now, even though he was with Auburn today. Auburn was usually pretty good at getting him to stop going in circles, but she wasn't always the most astute creature. In fact, she wasn't actually the most intelligent creatures either. She learned quickly, but it was probably because they were really close. Renathan didn't really understand how that sort of thing worked with Labs creatures, but they did tend to bond rather quickly and easily to people, moreso than normal animals.

Renathan was quiet for a moment, but true to form, Auburn woke him out of his thoughts. The beautiful fireworks were still going on, after all, and he did enjoy watching them. The mansion this time of year was certainly his favorite, so he might as well enjoy it, right? Renathan was quiet for a while, and then sat down on a nearby hillock in the yard to get a better vantage point of the beautiful fireworks. Absolutely gorgeous; Renathan thought as he glanced over the area. Auburn got down from Renathan's shoulder, and then cuddled up against his leg. Renathan patted the creature gently on her head. "Isn't it pretty, Auburn?" He said, pointing out over the area. The creature followed his hand movement, but Renathan knew that she probably would never really understand what he was meaning entirely. Familiars were such a strange thing; he still didn't understand them well!

Renathan had his fingers crossed that they would only need to stay a little while longer for Auburn to feel more comfortable with him. He was not sure how it worked, but sometimes creatures just seemed to go through a bit of a 'road block' when it came to training, if they didn't feel comfortable enough with him. He wasn't sure if this was just his training style causing issues, or if it was perhaps something that all labs creatures had? Renathan wasn't really interested in the specifics of it, but he did enjoy thinking of it as he learned more about his creatures over his time here. He knew of others that thought about it quite carefully, studiously. He wasn't quite like that... Renathan put his off-hand down on the grass, gently touching it with his palms. The mansion almost felt... Soft right now. More like an impressionistic painting instead.

It took Renathan a moment to realize that it wasn't tears or anything else that was causing this strange illusion; but the mansion itself. It was like the entire scenery was turning into paint and then wetting and running down the area. Renathan blinked; and that didn't fix it. He rubbed his eyes, and then turned from one direction to the other. The entire area was like that. The grass even looked like that, but it still felt like normal grass! What was this even? Renathan had seen several 'tricks' by the mansion over time, but he was a bit shocked by this one because it seemed rather... Ambivalent. Sure, he could technically stand up and fall over from lack of being able to see something clearly that he would otherwise see if not for this, but it didn't seem particularly malevolent. Was the mansion reacting to his artistic sense? Or was it reacting to Auburn?

Auburn was simple-minded, perhaps, or maybe that wasn't the correct word for it? She was kind, and sweet, and it was good that she was that way. He wasn't sure what the correct words in common it would be to really get this idea out. Renathan quietly pet Auburn, wondering if she was seeing what he was seeing, or if it was just something he was. Her lack of interest in anything and lack of fear suddenly spiking made him realize that it was possible that the creature wasn't seeing it. If that was the case, then Renathan was probably only being affected because he was not exactly the most resilient against psychics. He knew that from an incident with a psychic creature from a long while back; and he had thought for a long time that perhaps the mansion had some sort of odd power, and that it worked over his mind a bit more than it would a normal individual.

Renathan sometimes wondered exactly what the mansion was. He'd settled upon the idea of a spirit of the land living here, or perhaps it laying on a ley (though he had not sensed any ley in Pethia; which was very strange to him when he first made land) or something of that nature. The mammalian wished that he had more time to try to figure out these sorts of things, especially since the Mansion was always playing tricks on his mind. It had to be the mansion right? It only ever happened when he was here! He had no idea what to think of it, and wondered about it; mostly because it was quite dangerous. Renathan was never ever really sure if the mansion was going to favor him that day or month, or play a little too rough with his mind. He was glad to see that the mansion usually didn't play too rough with his creatures, at least. He would hate to see Auburn hurt.

So far, so good today though. Auburn was fine, if not a little weird today, but Renathan was sure that it was because he hadn't been spending as much time with her lately. He was beginning to wonder if that spell was causing any kind of secondary effects, or anything. He hoped not, but he really didn't understand magic that well even though he'd slowly began to learn how to use it properly. Being an elemental was completely different than being a magic-caster, it would seem. Swallowing a node imbued the person with an element and an elemental magic affinity; but it wasn't like tapping a node at all. From what Renathan could understand; node tapping mages had to learn spells; he didn't have to learn to use them- but he did have to figure out how to control it. Of course, there were other differences, but that was hardest part for him.

Renathan had accidentally made Auburn his familiar; after all. He just didn't know how to control his powers, well enough, and even though most people seemed to need to 'learn the spell' to take a familiar; he just seemed to automatically connect to the creature. He wasn't sure what it was about her that caused it to occur; she was familiar-sized, he guessed? Familiars had to be small, but not all small creatures were suitable... He didn't really understand the concept well. Perhaps if he had been a mage, he would have understood the concept better. He didn't regret that it happened; he loved Auburn a ton, but he wondered if he would have picked her had he actually... Had a choice? There weren't a whole lot of small creatures among his pets, and really, had he even wanted a familiar? He couldn't imagine himself without her, now, but it was so dangerous and odd.
